[Q] Hiding combined bar on 4.0

Hello. I have Amazon Kindle Fire running Android 4.0.3 and my problem with 4.0 is the status bar in the bottom doesn't disappear while running full screen app even though I checked the option "Allow combined bar to hide when showing a full screen app" in CM9 setting! well KF display is very wide and the bar makes it wider, and it also really bothers me when I'm watching a video or playing a game! so this is my question any idea how to get rid of this thing? I know there is an option to do that on CM7 and I think this should be possible?

Hide the notification bar to have a real big usable readable 4.7 screen

People... sometimes I miss all the 4.7 screen for games or reading. Then I thought about an easy way to turn the notification and status bar on and off at my will, not needing to reboot the phone or mess with the build.prop everytime.
My phone is the xt925 and I use ICS 4.0.4 Retail Brazil rooted.
All you need are two programs (they are paid and totally worth the money) + ROOT (rooting is very important for them to work). Of course you can try other programs. I´m not advertising. I´m just giving an idea.
Download 'GMD hide bar' to have control over the notification and status bar at your will. And also download 'Virtual Button Bar' to replace the notification bars.
When I want to read my ebooks or play some games I use these 2 programs and they always work pretty well.
Also, Virtual Button Bar has a really nice function that is: The button controls stay hidden on the position you want of the screen and then, if you just pass your finger in front of the light sensor (don´t even need to touch the screen), they appear.
Its really convenient and awesome!
Hope you enjoy!
=p
I tried GMD Hide Bar on my Maxx HD running JB (4.1.1) but every time it hid the Navigation Bar on the bottom it also hid the Status Bar on the top. I've found several apps that'll hide them both but no app that'd hide the bottom bar and NOT the top bar. I assume that the reason these apps are set up like this is that in tablets running JB the two sets of functions are BOTH in the bottom bar, not in two separate bars. Have you been able to get GMD Hide Bar to hide the Navigation Bar and not the Status Bar?

[Q] Fullscreen navigation bar issue

I'm using this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2614690
Everything is working fine except when I play a game such as Asphalt 8, and the game allows fullscreen mode, when I swipe down from the top, only the status bar shows not the navigation bar, making it really awkward to exit the game.
I've looked through all my settings and there doesn't seem to be anything about this issue.
I'm using xt1032

The annoying Navigation bar! Mate9 vs alternatives like S9plus.

[sorry i mean S8plus not S9plus. I haven't invented time travel (yet)]
I've never had a soft one and quite like the "always there" hard buttons on my Note 4.
I'm looking for a new phone though and have finally narrowed it down to:
S8plus
Huawei Mate 9
I worked out that with the stupid aspect ratio the 6.2" screen of the s8+ is actually narrower than the M9. BUT this is clever in order to have the nav bar out the way not being a nuisance.
I was seconds from placing an order on Wonda only to have a think about the Nav bar. It actually eats up (I'm guessing a centimetre?) space at the bottom of the screen and it seems to me that this will be the case for all apps, except for games or vids I suppose. Very annoying I guess! From my searching I understand that without a root it's not easily hideable. (Wonda will be putting an international ROM on the Chinese version and I think someone said here this won't affect it being rootable but I am not sure so I'd rather not risk it).
What a real pain in the backside as it effectively reduces the screensize!
It's for this reason only that I'm considering the Samsung S8plus instead. Yes the aspect ratio is ridiculous but if my 1cm estimate is correct, going by *my* calculations of actual screen real estate I get the following:
Mate 9:
Screen width 7.34cm
Screen height 13.06cm
Actual usable height when removing the 1cm of the navigation bar = 12.06cm
Total usable screen aree with nav bar present = 7.34x12.06 = 88.52cm2
Samsung S8plus
Screen width 6.89cm
Screen height 14.16cm
Actual usable area when removing 1cm of navigation bar = 13.16cm
Total usable screen aree with nav bar present = 6.89x13.16 = 90.67cm2
It seems that even with the stupid aspect ratio the S8+ might produce a bigger useable screen.
Can anyone confirm how much screen size is used up by the nav bar?
Can anyone advise how much of an impact this has?
If anyone knows of any tricks to reduce this impact it'd be appreciated
Thanks
The nav bar is about 1/4" high. Coming from the Note 3 (and Note 1 before that), I also had some concern about going to an on-screen nav bar, but in reality, it hasn't been an issue for me. When using most apps, the loss of height isn't typically an issue. We most often use the phone in portrait mode, so it's the width that affects the scale/size of what's being viewed, the nav bar just hides area that you haven't yet scrolled to. At times when you really need the entire screen (pictures, videos, and presumably games) the nav buttons are either superimposed on the image, or go away completely.
For full-screen games/apps the navigation bar hides, and is accessible again by swiping up from the bottom. Took a while for me to figure that out (for games that have no Exit button) xD
You can install apps like Fulscrn to hide the navigation bar completely.
I get about 7.5 mm which is a little more than 1/4 an inch (about .295 inches). Here is a screen shot with and without navibar when using browser. I have the Chinese version which allows you to hide navibar.

I used GMD Immersive for a while. Tried to persevere but it was just too much trouble and eventually gave up.

auto hide navigation bar on android 9

Hi guys, upgraded to android 9 today. Seems to be a bug with the navigation bar not hiding automatically. For example when watching a video online it will get in the way of the screen when in full screen mode.
I've attached a screenshot. Is there any way to get this to work?
Thanks
I have a threat about it here:
