Hello,
I was asked if I was interested in writing a review about this item. Why not, it´s been a while since I wrote my last reviews anyway. I received this item for free in exchange for an unbiased review.
Before you throw tar and feathers at me, why I post a Alarm Clock Radio Review on a phone forum, have a closer look at the item again It also has a built in phone charger which is rated at a charging current of 1.5A max.
Well, I have to admit that I got used to smartphones as my daily alarm clock for many years.
Since I´m not sure if you´re meanwhile allowed to post direct links about the items you are reviewing (though other people don´t seem to care but I´ve received some PMs from a Moderator which was not too happy about me posting links though), I will only post text only information.
I don´t want to start a huge discussion about it but it seems that some people are allowed to post anything they like while others have their reviews edited and topics locked.
Search the web for OnLyee 1.8” LED Dimmable Projection Clock Radio with AM/FM Radio,USB Charging,Dual Alarm,Battery Backup,Sleep Timer,Snooze if you want to find eg. Amazon links.
Ok, this was the longest introduction ever, let´s have a look at the item:

A nice cardboard box with details written on it and a symbolic picture of the device it contains.
Nothing fancy but easy to recycle.
What´s inside? The clock, a manual, support card and a simple box which I´m pretty sure that it contains the power supply adapter
Yep. A power adapter and some plastic parts which are supposed to be used as some sort of feet.
Nice and shiny. Be sure not to leave any fingerprints on the front part.
The back is not that shiny at all. Regular plastic, not a fingerprint magnet.
You need 2x additional 1.5V AAA Batteries which are not included. I´m sure that I have some of these laying around.
This device is pretty thin. All buttons are pretty much self explanatory.
The 2x extra parts attached in order to stabilize the device.
Now comes the interesting part. We all know that the Nexus 6P requires a USB Type C power supply in order to charge fast. However, will it also work with the generic charger and charge at a decent speed?
There is no extra charging cable included, I guess that you have to use your own cable if you want to charge devices.
I used the USB cable which was included with the Nexus 6P.
I used the App "Ampere" in order to check the current. It´s pretty stable at around 1290-1300mA which is OK if you plan on charging the phone while you´re sleeping.
1300mA is close enough to the rated 1.5A which is promised by the manufacturer. I will charge this phone again later when the battery is nearly out of charge and check again.
You can use the charging port for other devices too.
Here´s a another picture which is clearer.
Let´s have a look at the Time Projector too. Don´t expect the brightest color but it´s good enough to see the time in the dark.
The projector can be focused too but it requires some thinkering around.
Well, let´s finish this Review with my honest opinion?
I think that this Alarm Clock is pretty nice and I will use it too, just in case the phone decides to fail on me.
The built in phone charger is good enough for the Nexus 6P too, though I´m pretty sure that it was meant to be used with other phones like eg. a Nexus 5 (2013) which charges at a current of roughly 1A.
This device is pretty small and won´t need much space. The LEDs are bright enough to not blind you.
What about the sound quality? We all know that these Alarm Clocks are not meant to replace a expensive Hifi System. The only thing I can tell is that it sounds exactly the way I would have expected it to sound.
It´s ok, not too much bass and a lot better than the sound you get from your smartphone anyway. It´s good enough to wake you up so you can get some coffee and turn on your 100k Stereo Hifi System
If you have any questions, feel free to ask
Why would you charge with this as opposed to the included stock charger? It just looks so cheap compared to so many other options out there for the same price point. I know you got it for free and are obligated now to them for a review...I will look elsewhere for my alarm and charging needs. Cheers
That´s a good question. I think that the charging function is a bonus feature and is meant to be used with standard smartphones which charge at a current of roughly 1A. I didn´t look around if you can find a Alarm Clock with a built in USB Type C charger? Well, these items are pretty generic and you cannot write too much about them.
Maybe there are some elite versions available with eg. a case made out of brushed metall.
Btw, the Clock visible in the last picture (the green one) is built in the 70s, uses VFD Tubes but unfortunately doesn´t have any Alarm function. It´s nice to see though that old devices can still work after such a long time.
It's difficult to ignore the Digital Projection Alarm Clock from Magnasonic. The ability to show time and temperature readouts onto my wall or ceiling serves as the foundation for the entire process. Because of this, the time is always clearly visible, which is helpful when I'm pressed for time.

might go for this holder anyway, could do with the power
any ideas on RRP?
How much is it expected to cost and why is the pic upside down?

Pic is straight. USB connection for charging is at the top of the phone..
for HTC Touch HD was really good.
Probably I`ll buy for SGS as well
Hope the charger is 1mA
even at 1mA it's not powerful enough to charge the battery when using the GPS
i'm looking for a 2mA car charger
The estimate prices you can check from DSL Developments

Prices may vary when the products are wider in the shops.

Now I do like Brodit, but I may have to get my hacksaw out according to these pics.
Unless Im reading it wrong, there's a big flap of plastic obscuring the camera lens.
I like to record my car journeys you see - for the times I get into an accident with a less than honest person who invents witnesses.

that's a great idea!
i've always used a separate camera for that purpose, because i bike and drive, it's extremely important when you are on a bicycle as most car vs. bicycle goes either unreported, or car always win the debate even though it's the car's driver fault.
Off topic (but discussed in topic) I've just purchased this 2A charger http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2A-car-charge...ting_LaptopAccessories_RL&hash=item45f367d712 cheap and cheerful no holder but provide the correct power for maximum use of the device
Isn't a 2 amp charger way overkill? I have a 0.7 amp samsung charger and that charges my phone just fine while running mobile maps.
i ordered a 2 Amp charger from another source, i already have a generic phone holder that works for all phones and PDA
no, anything less than 1 Amp will not charge your phone, if you keep the screen ON, and using GPS + using Bluetooth
1 Amp will keep your battery from falling down drastically, but it is still not enough to charge the battery meanwhile all the features are ON
2 Amp is only enough to keep all those features running, and charger the battery.
that comes from experience using the HTC Athena, which is just as much of a power hog as the SGS i9000

There is also a similar model with a charging recess to take a spare battery. I have that and have found to work well. I will see if I can find a link tomorrow.
Only real drawback is the flying lead connectivity... I still hanker for the simplicty of dropping a device into the cradle and having it mate with a built-in multi-connector rather than the fiddle of plugging in the less than elegant uUSB flying lead. The price of the ultra-thin form factor I guess.

Kevin
TG01 docking station
I just bought two of these - £3.99 each including postage, can't go wrong. Just got them this morning and they look great and do the job, finally a decent stand for the TG01
I have finally found the source I obtained my pair of docking stations - similar to the previously quoted example on eBay, but these came from a supplier in Germany and have a built-in recess with charging capability for a spare battery in addition.

So you have to connect a cable first, then put it in the dock?
It's more of a stand in a way?

That's correct - but with the side mounted uUSB port on the TG01 and no mating port on the bottom such as was typical on earlier devices, it's difficult to see how they could have done much else. It works fine though apart from the slight niggle of having to plug in the uUSB lead.

Kevin
I have found the cradle to end all cradles..... hehehehe
SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS TO ORDER THIS STUPID MOTHER BLEEPING THING...
Ok, no more capital letters, so here is the story, I go on amazon cuz I liked the idea of having a cradle for this device. Yeah yeah, it is old now, but I love my TG01. I will own this phone for a while. So I go on Amazon.de (keep in mind... I live in Japan) and I find this AWESOME (sorry I lied about the caps) cradle, and as the Germanz would say, "zee kruadloo izt aweeesome." Unfortunately I am in Japan and can not buy it. So I signed up with a freight forwarder and then bought it under their name, and hopefully this 25 dollar item will not cost my 200 in the end. Take a look everyone, even has a charger for an extra battery in the back, made specifically for the TG01, as soon as I get it, i am going to cut the cable off and mod it with a 90 degree angle cable and then I will have the perfect dock.
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0039IJL1O
Yeah, I searched all day long to find this somewhere else, somewhere for cheaper shipping and handling, in total this 25 EURO item will probably cost me at least 70EURO to get it too me... wow... I am retarded.
-Kilinsane.
Hi Kili,
Good luck with the cradle - looks the same as the one I previously posted about - in which case should do good service. One tip - the second battery charging slot is very handy, but does have one quirk in that it doeesn't seem to be happy with a completely flat battery being put in to charge. In that case just sits and blinks - but if the battery is maybe 2/3 discharged or less then seems fine. I've noticed that my (completely separate device) very decent AA and AAA NiMH programmable battery charger also doesn't like fully flat batteries - it will refuse to charge them until they've been started off in a dumb charger first.
Let us know how you find the cradle when you receive
Best regards,
Kevin
Alright folks, don't know if this has been discussed before, and frankly I can't browse through threads atm looking for it, so here it is. It's a a power case for your Desire HD/Inspire 4G with an extended 1500mAh battery to make your life easier.
I've tested it some time ago but never got the chance to actually post anything about it because I just don't get enough time. The case is very rigid and provides the ultimate protection for your device. The only downside is the fact it is enormous.

The price varies between $40 and $47 so if you think this can help save your phone, go ahead and buy yourself one.
You can grab it on amazon,
http://www.amazon.com/PowerSkin-Pro..._1_8?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1330464202&sr=1-8
Be fast they only have like 4 or 5 left in stock.
Of course if ya think this post is useful, hit thanx. Won't kill ya.
PS: I am in no way affiliated with the company that is making this so if ya think I'm making money here, I'm not.
read the reviews on amazon... it sucks...
As panyan says... it sucks... I tested it for a week and then it went back to amazon...
The Quality is quite good, but it makes the DHD really fat... but i knew it before i purchased it and this wasnt the real problem...
This this batterie was supposed to last as long as the internal batterie does, but for 50euros (in germany) you get a silikoncase which makes your phone thicker and a really bad batterie that lasts for 7 hours... in IDLE!!
My DHD "survives" sometimes up to 2 Days (When its IDLE most the time), so a battery that used to have more capacity then the internal one lasts only 7 hours?
FAIL!!!
I loaded it more than one time to full capacity and tested it the whole week...
I cannot recommend that powerskin.
mfg cre-x
PS: sry for my bad english XD
It's an interesting idea, but it woud add a lot of weight and bulk to the phone, which you would only need let's say for the second 1/2 of the day
So would you want to carry that around with you all day?
The alternative, which I use, is to have a battery pack (mine's a 5000mAh) which I plug into the charging socket of the phone via USB-microUSB cable when I run low.
The battery pack has the same dimensions and weight as the phone, but I keep it in a bag until needed, so it doesn't affect the phone's bulk until I decide to charge.
And they are cheap too, I got mine off Amazon for €22 I think it was. NewTrent is the brand, I can recommend it. The price fluctuates quite a lot. There are also some cheaper alternatives, but I wouldn't bother with a 2000mAh pack, since it wouldn't pack much of a punch. Also the NewTrent one has 2 output sockets and can provide a 1A output, giving a fast charge.
And you can keep your favourite case too, no worries about GPS signal either
powerskins are for people who can only get to charge their phone every other day or use the phone very intensly.
In most cases it's a waste of money.
I used it 3 months and now it no works.
PS: This Case is really big!
I have it, it's awesome. The thickness isn't important to me, i have big pockets. But it was 80$ here in my country.
phone companies are on the verge of these 'inductive charging' techniques by just attaching the tech to the battery without sacrificing any of the physical size of it all, so who knows maybe at the end of the year it'll become standard in phones without the need of having accessories like these
WOW! The Phone becomes very thick with this thing. That's absolutely not cool. In which pocket shall it fit? Just rendered and no real pictures you can see nothing about the quality of these thing. I think a spare accu is much better than this Power Skin.

And you will be the first to make a review video in your local park to show us how good it works?
I chose the Z1 Compact as I like to run/bike with my phone; not so that I can use things like Strava/RunKeeper/Endomondo etc but becuase I
a. listen to music
b. take calls
c. take photos
d. like my loved ones to track me in case of emergency
e. make calls in case of emergency
etc
So the high spec, waterproofness and size really appealled to me
And I have to say.. it is proving a delight.
I have now finalised my run/bike setup and thought you guys might be interested in the set up.
Photos attached
Run:
Armband: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Xperia-Z1-Compact-Shocksock/dp/B00HUGVTIE
I have tried various armband cases over the decades (!!) but this one I have for the Z1 Compact is the best to date (and one of the cheapest)
It has a nice amount of stretch, a little key pocket and nice velcro closure that doesn't rub.
I would say though that it is not a tight fit in the armband case (it is NOT custom made for the phone).. but that is fine with me as I can easily slip in and out, it works with my normal case I have for the phone, and is still secure and not had issues on long runs (+20k)
If you want the smallest possible case for the phone then look elsewhere
The screen is responsive enough through the clear screen, but as with all the cases, the power button of the phone is in a bit of an awkward position
Bike:
Handlebar case: http://topeak.com/products/bags/smartphone_drybag_5in_bk2
Why bother with a waterproof case?
Well.. I suppose I didn't really need to, but I wanted something for the handlebars that would protect it in case of a fall a bit more, but wouldn't be too bulky. (also.. I could be on the bike in the rain for upwards of 6hrs.. not sure if the IP rating could handle that!)
The fit is actually perfect: I can just squeese in with the my normal case (Krussel FrostCover) still on. Without the case it is still a nice and snugg fit with no flapping around.
Screen responsive enough through the clear plastic front
The power button is okayish to press on the go
The downside I see with this is that the inbuilt clip on the back means that on bumps it can 'slap' a bit, so I might look at fixing that somehow (the case is good enough that I would want to do that rather than look for another solution)
also, if you wanna take phonts you need to take out of the waterproof case.
Run/Bike:
Headphones: http://www.jaybirdsport.com/bluebuds-x-bluetooth-headphones/
I understand people who say you should not use headphones while running/biking outdoors, but I do like to do it
These bluetooth headphones are the best out there.
Expensive but worth it: can use in the rain, no long cord, answer calls etc.
They have already proven the best sports headphones I have ever bought
The only downside I would say is that the stock earbuds can fall out, so I use comply foam buds (http://www.complyfoam.com/products/S-500/)
That makes the fit perfect and secure (can run for 2hrs without needing to adjust once)
No dropouts.
Hope this is helpful.
I really am in a near perfect place now with my setup.
I first started looking for the ideal set up to run/bike with, in 2002 (using the first phone that I started to run with).. I have finally found it (until the wearable tech means I use something other than a phone in a few years)

Thank you very much for your feedback :good:. Quite similar need for me: day long mountain bike and hike sessions.
I'm curious about any setup allowing charging the phone with a dynamo, but still being waterproof, or anything allowing to extend the battery life for a complete day of use as GPS track recorder and map. I have in mind a setup based on something similar to the Shimano Dynamo Generator Hubs.
Regarding the power button, I hope Tap2Wake & Wake 2 Touch, or any other similar feature, will be soon available for the Z1 Compact.

Yeah.. the phone batteries are not quite up to the extended rides or ultras.
tbh that is why I use a Garmin Edge for my long rides (i don't need to go longer than that battery allows) and not use my phone for tracking.
in the past I have used different things for keeping the juice of my phone going (additional batteries, external batter packs etc).. but I think this is one of the weaknesses of the phone for that application
[1] the magnets on the magnetic charging socket tend to be weak so on a bike you will probably need to keep on reconnecting or use some sort of tape to tape the socket in place
[2] the normal usb charging socket is in an awkward position.. so the cable would jut out to the side.. but worse.. you lose the waterproofness and more worryingly, the flap is in a dangerously vulnerable position to breakage
[3] no removable battery
If i needed to charge on the go (on the bike) then I would defintely look at utilising the magnetic socket and tape the plug n place.
that would then leave the issue of keeping the phone out of the elements (especially on extended downpours) and for that you would need a different mount to the topeak one (not broad enough to have the charger in the bag as well)
there is also the other issue of amps.. you need to make sure that the phone is being given enough amps to actually charge. not sure a dynamo would do that,.. but those battery packs would if you choose the right one
---
When you do get something sorted.. then post piccies! very interested to see what you come up with
Nice post!
I used the same Topeak case with my late SGS3, which was a very tight fit...
I have used it in different conditions over half a year and found one big nuissance with it. That clear plastic gets foggy from the inside and you have to clean that up every now and then (sealed rolled and everything). And I'm not a neat freak... also I don't have sticks for fingers, so cleaning all of it is just not pleasant...
As for the charging en route... you could still hook the dynamo output by soldering the wires (actually with some connector) to a solar battery - as complimentary powersource to the solar cell. Then charge from that, which gives a more stable output. Worst case scenario is that going downhill may fry a solar battery instead of the phone...
I'm seeing some on Amazon with super suspect reviews. Like, one of them has 99% 5-star reviews. Come on, dude...

got it now. Works more as OK for this price. Can charge also if the device is in the cover. The HW looks professional. QI charging with stand works only if you put the phone horizontal on the stand , but this is ok. Think was a good deal. Shippment needs 3 weeks.
After some weeks using I can say it was a very good deal. Works perfect with my Note 9 on travel. I can really highly recommend this QI charger. Use it on my business trips including powerpoint presentations in combination with an little HDMI adapter and on the evening to view Netflix videos in the hotel.
I don't want miss it anymore...
I've got to get that!
I think using the descriptor “best” is relative. What may work for one may not work for another.
Take this product:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077QRXLF6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
10000mah battery pack, usb 3 ports, qi standard. Display shows exact charge numerically. Even shows the voltage coming in and voltage going out of the ports and what the qi is sending out.
There is a led ring that shows light white when charging and dark blue when charged.
I like these so much I bought 3 for the 3 notes i have.
EDIT: does charge them with the samsung military grade case for the note 9 series as seen in the photos (may be hard to see the actual case but both units have the case on )

Does look cool, I like the bright light, but I'd definitely want it to be optional, you wouldn't want that next to your bed when trying to sleep haha.
And yeah that super smooth surface does look like the phone would easily slide off, although it would be negated by a case that had some grip.
Not sure what happened, might just be a temporary thing, but it's currently unavailable?

That’s why i said not one product can be “best”.
I’m sure this is not designed to sit next to your bed at night. Its mostly aimed at people on the go /traveling.
The light ring is not bright. In a darkened room it will be noticeable, sure.
The top surface has plastic (shipping plastic). You can remove this plastic overlay as you see fit
Ive had these for about 3 weeks. I have used them 2-3 times per week (just to test on the charge times) and am very happy with the product price point and features.
You can also charge the product up whilst charging a qi enabled device (pass thru charging)
Does anyone make a car phone cradle holder with inbuilt wireless charger?

Lots of people do wireless charging cradles for cars - I have an iOttie, two QiFulls and (my favourite - so good that I bought 3 of them), Samsung's own one.

Of course you are right, but for me personally is size and power (20000mah) decisive. And some small things like the vertical stand, the non slippery surface and the size (like the phone itself) seem to be thought-out....

I think using the descriptor “best” is relative. What may work for one may not work for another.

^^^ thats why there are more options out there because not everyone has the same feature requests. I don’t particualry like portable upright chargers and the fact I have 3 of these means the 10 000mAh X3 (30000mAh? ) wlli be plenty. And if they are not, i have two portable power banks.
The product i listed here is just another option in the mix... not trying to steal thunder away from any one product..

The last thing I needed was yet another power bank (I have a couple of really hefty one - 26,800 mAh from Zendure and 30,000 mAh from iMuto - as well as a whole raft of smaller ones given away free at various trade shows), but none of them do wireless so I had to get one of these as well.
Ordered it on amazon.de and it arrived here in the UK in a couple of days. Initial impressions are favourable. It charges my Note 9 even in its Spigen Tough Armor case, and I like the ability to have the phone at an angle. It also seems to do passthrough (i.e. wireless charge the Note 9 while also being charged itself).
There's a USB-C socket for input (haven't tested whether it can also be used as an output) as well as MicroUSB in and 2 x USB A outputs.
yes, is no bad

Well, getting bogged down with semantics is a waste of time. I think most of us generally agree that when we say "best" we're implying that the product performs as expected and that it suits most of our needs/wants.
That charging pad you shared looks promising but it sucks that it's no longer available on Amazon. I hope more OEMs jump into this portable wireless charging game. We need more options, that's for sure.

I feel you on this. I'm down to two right now. One big one with enough amps to charge my laptop quick enough and a smaller Anker one for everything else. I want to replace the Anker one with a wireless one. Less cables to carry around.
