So I recently bricked my device, it's an Lg Tribute with an operating system of 4.4.2 Kitkat. I found a site that provided the files for 4.4.2 Kitkat, but it specified that that operating system was for an Lg G2, and it gave 3 different files, one for Verizon G2 phone, one for a Sprint phone, the other for a AT&T phone. I don't get that, isn't an operating system an operating system an operating system? why does it matter which carrier you have? does that just change what texting/calling app will automatically come with the operating system and become the system app? Or does it go much further than that, to the point of it not being able to be installed on my Lg Tribute? My Lg Tribute is a TextNow phone which uses Sprint's coverage. Would I be able to install the files on my Lg Tribute since I use the exact operating system which the tutorial says to use for a G2. Help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Hi !
I have replied to you here https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-assist/to-bootload-t3563312
Use the files for your device variant only
Cheers !

can i install android on anything else but the samsung preinstalled OS on it?
You just can't put WinMo/Android to any device, a manufacturer had create the device specifically for WinMo/Android and put the OS in there so drivers and specific support files are available, then it can be modded/upgraded as people do in this site.
Every single device here has been launched with WiMo/Android as their operating system from the manufacturer.

The reason why it is called 'rooting' is because Android is based off of the linux operating system. In the linux world, the 'root' user is God. The 'root' user can do anything that they want to.
I believe there are ways to gain access to the system files on a Windows device, however I'm not sure if it can support actually running Android. The drives and modems would have to be written in order to support the custom software. It would be a lot of work. Google will be your best friend on this one.
I certainly can run android... prob is the drivers. The connection between hard and software would need to be rewritten. Without support of the producers of this phone virtually impossible.
I got this "smart" projector , a T16P , recently and it's a pretty great device running KitKat I think. I'm not too in love with the ROM however and would love to root it and put some better firmware on if it's available. Kodi runs beautifully on it.
What would I need to do to achieve this? I've no idea how to get it into download mode, or how to backup the existing ROM, extract some hardware drivers ?
It would be such a fun device to run alternative OS images on, or maybe even an ARM linux. It's such capable hardware, it pains me to not have more control over it's software.
I do not recommend to do this.
I had the same feeling so I tried to update to lollipop... and since then I can't boot the projector anymore
T16p

Dear all,
i am no developer. My knowledge of how android os even works is zero. I am but a simple android phone user. While using an android phone, I find myself wondering as to whether the stock/vanila android operating system can be modified such that it
1) has a termux-like terminal but with the capability of giving the user temporary root access something like in ubuntu
2) is possible to install it using a bootable flash disk instead of flashing only.
I hope that android developers can kindly let me know as to whether the above is possible or not.
With regards
