modification pf stock/vanila android os - General Questions and Answers

Dear all,
i am no developer. My knowledge of how android os even works is zero. I am but a simple android phone user. While using an android phone, I find myself wondering as to whether the stock/vanila android operating system can be modified such that it
1) has a termux-like terminal but with the capability of giving the user temporary root access something like in ubuntu
2) is possible to install it using a bootable flash disk instead of flashing only.
I hope that android developers can kindly let me know as to whether the above is possible or not.
With regards

[Q] Hacking Android phones using Ubuntu

Dear all,
I'm a newbie in the Android world and I'd like to know if it is possible to hack your Android devices using Ubuntu. All the guides I've found refer to using certain softwares (like Odin, SuperOneClick and so on) using Windows,
but as I don't have a Windows computer I'd prefer to manage hacking my phone
using Ubuntu.
In particular I'd like to understand:
0) How to perform a backup of my device ROM so that if anything goes ever
wrong I'm able to flash a working rom on my device;
1) how to root a device (I could manage in finding an update.zip and to root mine.. is this the general procedure or is there a Linux way to do this?)
2) what is needed to upgrade a device?
3) once I have collected all the required files for my device, how can I flash
the rom on it? What softwares like Odin do and how to replicate their behaviour using Linux/Ubuntu.
4) if anything goes wrong how can I restore the working rom (that I've backed up previously at point 0.
Thanks a lot in advance, I've tried searching a lot how to do this for my Galaxy GT-s5670 but I couldn't find anything useful.

[Q] Installing any linux distribution on htc desire s

Hello,
I have bought the htc desire s in december'11 and I assess that I hate android and all the available custom roms so I try to get some other distribution to work on my desire s.
IMPORTANT: Please don't tell me something about the sense or how nice a chroot works, I am asking for a native installation guide.
All I want is a clean base-system (ubuntu/debian/gentoo/angstrom/...) that will boot.
Does someone know a way (howto/wiki/manpage ) to get a proper distribution to work on this device?
My Workflow:
-> install distribution
-> get wlan access to work
-> boot device with autoconnect (wlan) and sshd (openssh or dropbear)
-> connect via ssh and get an graphical frontend like X-server to work.
best regards

Why did you buy an Android phone when you hate Android?
Anyway, are you planning to use the phone to make calls?
If so, you can't use any standard Linux distributions.
If you do some googling you should be able to find a guide to install Ubuntu and run X on it.
I think there's an official version for dual core phones, but unfortunately that does not affect this phone.
Ubuntu doesn't run native, but through chroot.
There are no native installation guides.
If you can remake any distribution to have 4MB kernel and load everything from another partition - you can try to make a native installation yourself. Look at the mounts in loaded system, look at the kernel code and see how you need to compile one, and make it.
Otherwise - sell the phone and buy something else.

[Q] Run a rooted Android from SD card on a non rooted ROM Android

Hello,
I know it is possible to use haret.exe to run Android on some Windows Mobile phones.
Is their an Android version of haret, that would enable me to run a completely different version of Android on an Android phone.
It would also enable me to run a rooted version of Android on the SD, and not void my insurance since the hardware ROM would not change - I would always run the SD Android.
I see this is a very useful technique.
I understand the basics of how haret works, overwriting all RAM and then executing memory position zero. However since this requires an incredibly invasive method of writing RAM, can see why it may not be possible.
Thank you.

[Q] Learning Linux Inside From Android

Hello & Happy New Year Everybody.
I'm pretty new to Android, so apologizing for any mistakes.
Now, My question is,
Is it possible to learn linux inside from android devices?
(Just using the android device. Purely Android Device [I Insist].)
Additional Info:
Please notice, this is not about android development.
This is about learning linux based operating systems inside from android.
This is purely about, learning linux based commands and their usage to learn about linux based operating systems.
More Additional Info:
My device is rooted.
I've got "BusyBox" installed.
I also have "Terminal Emulator" installed.
Ready to install any other apps required.
Thanks all.
