Hi
I am interested getting one of these Pros however i cant decide on which processor fits my bill. I will do mostly drawing, sketching and pdf reading. I do not play games or watch videos reall so it does not matter to me. Does anyone know which cpu would perform better under these conditions? I will use Lineage OS.
thanks
both are great processors.
this is simplifying a bit but it basically breaks down to the snapdragon being better at graphics with the adreno 320 GPU
and the exynos being slightly better at multiprocessor performance.
that being said you will more likely be limited to what is available.
the wifi and international 3g versions have the exynos processor.
all LTE versions have the snapdragon 800.
only the international LTE version (SM-P905) can be rooted and unlocked so you can install a custom rom. (the Verizon (SM-P905V) and AT&T (SM-P907A) versions currently have locked bootloaders but can be rooted on android 4.1 with no custom rom support)
unfortunately the international LTE version (SM-P905) is incredibly difficult to find.
If you want custom rom support like lineage OS you're best bet will be an Exynos model
for reference:
Bootloader Unlockable and rootable:
SM-P900 - Wifi (Exynos Processor)
SM-P901 - 3g and wifi (Exynos Processor)
SMP905 - LTE and wifi (Snapdragon Processor)
Rootable on android 4.4 but not bootloader unlockable yet:
SM-P905V - Verizon LTE and Wifi (Snapdragon Processor, locked bootloader)
SM-P907A - AT&T LTE and Wifi (Snapdragon Processor, Locked bootloader, locked SIM by default.)
@firefly6240
Thanks for your reply, this is very helpful a lot for my desicion.
Do you know if The verizon version can have Lollipop with root? I can live with that I guess but Kitkat is a bit really dated by now.
there are 3 versions of the 5.1.1 update for the Verizon model, the first one has been reported as rootable using kingroot by others.
note that I myself am on P905VVRUBOH1 and do not have root.
if you can get a hold of the P905VVRUANK5 update and flash it manually through Samsung smart switch on your PC and then run kingroot you would have what you are looking for. (Assuming you are ok with using kingroot instead of the normal superuser app)
I havent looked for that update by itself though since I'm already on a newer version but its likely out there somewhere.
also note that you would have root and could grant superuser permission to apps but would not have the ability to flash custom files, recoveries or roms.
P905VVRUANK5 - rootable with kingroot (though some people noted they had to run it multiple times)
P905VVRUBOH1 - not rootable so far
P905VVRSBPL1 - not rootable so far
@firefly6240
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
I am actualy not ok with kingroot because I personally thingk that that app is evil, and does alot of **** in the background including checking/sending data to some servers in China constantly. On top of it it also runs as separate process and user if I remember right.
I guess based on what you wrote, I will go for the Exynos for now, given that they are easier to get.
Yeah I wanted to make sure you knew the only option was kingroot, I haven't used it myself but I've heard similar stories from others.
most devices have ways to get rid of the kingroot app and use an alternate app (Like super SU etc.) but so far this model (P905V) is stuck with kingroot.
you can use towelroot and the normal superuser app on 4.4 but once you go past 4.4 towelroot is no longer supported.
Thanks for all the assistance.

Just read some posts in the towelroot forum, and I had some questions - but first, a little about me:
I'm coming from an HTC Evo 4g LTE (Sprint) and I just switched to Ting (uses all Sprint towers & devices, just an a-la-carte payment plan as opposed to monthly)
Anywho, all this Knox business (and acquiring root for the S5) is new to me (but I am no newbie when it comes to root, just my first time owning a Samsung device.) I havent even had this phone for 24 hours yet.
Just wanted to know what build/kernel/Android version you were on when you attempted towelroot?
I am on Android 4.4.2 - Build: KOT49H.G900PVPU1AND2
I did not install the System OR Software Update that is in my notification list after activation. (Pretty much same rules were for the HTC Evo 4G LTE, it would update the bootloader to a version that was considered "unmoddable" at the time) and for that phone it was also called "S-OFF" (S stood for Security) - Im guessing Knox is somewhat similar...?
Also, what is the preferred root method for the G900P? I only know of towelroot and CF-Auto-Root (sp?) - I know Chainfire makes apps specifically for Samsung devices, but read an old post on another site that CF's method will "trip" Knox... is that still accurate?
Just wanted to be 100% confident in what I'm doing, before I attempt anything. (Again, I have a lot of experience in HTC devices; not so much with Samsung) :/
Any help regarding my device and acquiring root without "tripping" Knox is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance! - zmag

To add to this I just purchased a S5 coming after an S1 and S3.
I am wondering if I have to worry about any updates on sprint locking me out. My S3 is on Verizon and luckily I rooted it before they came out with the update that locked it out. Can I go to the newest version that my phone wants to update me to without any fears of being locked out in the future?

Currently for the Sprint 900P (not the 860 Sport) NE5 is the latest build and I have not heard of anything being patched to not allow root.
However, it is best practice to always wait on taking any new Sprint updates until the devs have time to look into it and make sure root is still possible. There is no way for anyone to know what Sprint/Samsung/Google will patch in future updates. It usually only takes the dev community about a day or so to confirm whether existing root methods will still work.
Long time android user that just upgraded to the Verizon Note 5.
I see plenty of custom roms and root methods for other variants. ...are we just screwed on the Verizon variant?
I'm still in my 14 day period, so may return if root and custom ROMS aren't available
No root or unlocked bootloader = no ROMs.
Root may happen someday, but I doubt it. At least not a 'full' root with system folder write access.
So if ROMs and root are important to you then return the phone immediately.

Verizon's Note 5 is locked down tight. Just look at the Note 4, it's still not rootable. If you want to play with ROMs, go with Nexus 6P
Bummer!!
I do like the phone very much though, are any of the other variants compatible with the Verizon network.
Have thoughts of returning this model and buying one that works with CDMA and can be rooted. ..is there such a thing?
This is Verizon! So no, no other variant will have complete compatibility with the Verizon network.
If you want rom's, you'll have to either switch to tmobile and get a note 5 with them, stay on verizon and get a nexus 6 or s6/edge.

I beg your pardon, but that is clearly not a real rooting solution.
A quick read through the comments (including one unfortunate flasher) reveals that it's nonsense. Please don't share things like this. It makes this forum worse!
Hi, reading through the forums, it sounds like rooting a Note Pro 12.2 on Verizon is either very difficult, or impossible? I'm going to buy one of these for either VZW or AT&T to test for my team of 6 salespeople to use in the field and would need it to be rooted so we can use multi window on all apps. Would prefer VZW because I have most of my devices there now and use Message+ which is awesome for texting on all my devices. But if I have to go AT&T to root, I'll do that - I think this functionality is more important to us. I'd appreciate any input you have on this, and also if someone would be willing to walk me through the rooting process I'd be happy to compensate. Thanks, Scott

Rooting the Verizon model is very easy as long as it is on Android 4.4 (Android 5.1 was recently released for it and is not rootable)
The instructions here are what I used, they are very straightforward: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795630
The downside to the carrier models is that they have locked bootloaders.
So even though you can get root access you wont be able to install Roms or alternate recovery images and such, so you would be stuck on android 4.4.
You would be able to do everything you normally could do on a rooted 4.4 stock rom though.
I have the Verizon model (SM-P905V) and I love it, I currently have a T-mobile sim in it and it gets LTE with no issues.
if you want to be able to root, install a custom recovery and install roms as well as have mobile Broadband you would need the international LTE model (SM-P905) but they are increasingly hard to find for some reason.

Thanks for your response firefly6240, I appreciate it!
I have a bunch of questions. I just received my Verizon S7 as of today, brand new of course.
1. Is it possible to flash this to a different firmware and possibly load a rom for that, I've noticed? Or is there no working rom for this verizon phone because it's from verizon? I know you can root it as well. Verizon firmware seems pretty ass so far and have noticed that it's been heating up just because I'm installing apps from the playstore although people have said it goes away eventually. Any recommendations on which firmware I should use?
2. As for the people who have rooted, how has your experience with it so far in terms of performance, battery life, and stability? I plan on rooting if's worth the trouble so I can use Adaway, Xposed Installer, and etc but mainly to improve my battery life if rooting helps with that! Can I just load into a different firmware and then install a rom? For some reason there are no working roms or stable roots for the Verizon version?
Should I just stick with stock then?

1. No you can't, since in the USA all firmwares are carrier branded and flashing another carriers' rom would most likely brick your device. And yes, it is possible to root your device, but it is still in early stages which means it's very unstable and it would bring more disadvantages then advantages.
2. I am using the International version of s7 and rooting does improve my device's peformance quite a lot, but I would not recommend rooting your's.
So yeah, for now just stick with the stock rom.
Hello to the developers of this wonderful root tool!
ZTE has released a fantastic Octacore processor tablet with LTE and ot would appear there is no root strategy available for it at this time despite shipping with 5.0.1 stock and being seemingly AOSP based.
It is such a specialized device given to a targeted marked that kingroot tells me only ~340 people have requested root research as well. The tablet is cheap, had full LTE, a great processor, 2 GB of RAM even and 16gb storage and up to 64 GB external. Source code for GPL is available from ZTE upon request (not live yet) - but it's very new. September 2015 new actually... It's birthday is coming up. I'd love to get this thing rooted, and start developing some new ROMs for her to really take full advantage of this wonderful little tablet.
Also to note: I think the bootloader is locked, unlike most ZTE devices or so I've read; in fastboot mode, above the menu, there is a message saying "device is fused" which may be ZTE speak for this.
Anyhow... Any help is appreciated; even if someone knows how to unlock bootloader. At this point twrp and cwm recovery both don't support it, and I can't flash anything that isn't signed. Appears to have been master key patched too.
I too, have a Bell ZTE K85 Grand View X

Hello. I also own a Bell ZTE K85 Tablet. I also would like to be able to root my tablet. This Android 5.0.1 Lollipop crap has to go. This tablet has an Octacore Processor, I wanna be able to take Nougat 7.0 for a test drive. Hell, even Marshmallow, I don't care, I just desperately want to root so bad. This could have been a great tablet, but unfortunately I've never had 1 update in the time I've owned it. So stupid!
UPDATE:
I have rooted this tablet using KingRoot. I am now able to enjoy the wonderful benefits of being rooted. Try it out guys. It worked for me!
Would love to see a root for this device - Lineage OS would also be great!
