Extracting Radio/Modem from beta - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

So I'm currently on Pure Nexus mod but the I had much better service on the beta. I'm assuming it's because of the radio. Are they any guides out there on how to extract the radio image from the beta?

Download the beta factory image from HERE and extract it down as far as you can go. The Radio image will be there, use fastboot flash radio ****.img (*** is radio name).

Thanks I appreciate it. So I have the .IMG now any way to flash it through twrp? If you're not sure no worries I'll just flash it when I get my PC back. Thanks

No, I don't believe there is a way to flash with TWRP.

You cannot flash the factory image in twrp. You can extract the boot image and flash it in twrp. The modem image can only be flashed in fastboot.

You can flash both in fastboot. Boot image only in twrp.
In fastboot use
fastboot flash modem modem.img (to flash to active slot) to flash to inactive slot use
fastboot flash modem_a modem.img (or modem_b)
Same with radio image
fastboot flash radio radio.img
I flash all new images to both slots, so when I flash custom roms and constantly switch slots, everything is the same. No issues. Flashing factory image only puts these in active slot. The inactive slot is left with older versions depending on your update and flashing history. You would have to know your exact history to know whats in your inactive slot. Or reboot into your inactive slot bootloader and it will tell you the radio and bootloader versions. Won't tell you everything. I flash these to both slots, every update. Unless they don't change.

Those two images are backward and forward compatible. Bootloader and Vendors may cause issues. You shouldn't have problems with radios and modems. Alot of us have been doing it for along time. To try get get the best signal for our area. Same reason your doing it. Lol!

Best way to compare is to go into settings/about phone/status/sim status and look at the dBm and asu numbers. They will change with your signal strength.

Speed test for modem, dBm and asu for radio signal strength. In theory, stronger signal strength should translate into better speeds.

[HOW-TO] Flash the latest radio for your One S

There is a guide on how to flash a new radio on the One S, but its outdated and obsolete.
While we still dont have S-OFF yet, there is a trick that lets you flash radio images.
Requirements.
The latest TWRP recovery image. Available here.
Grab the latest US or EU radio here and copy it to your SD Card. (adb push filename.zip /sdcard/radio.zip) Click the changelog-button to see which radio's are US and EU.
Lets get flashing
Reboot your device into the bootloader.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Use fastboot to boot up into recovery.
Code:
fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-ville.img
You will boot directly into recovery from the recovery image, and no restrictions apply. Now simply flash the radio.zip file that you pushed over earlier, and you're all set!
Enjoy!
Credits to xkonni for the tip!
Is it really bad if I flash a EU radio on my TMOBUS device? I have done so 24hrs ago and notice very fast speeds and good signal strength. I don't get why there is a difference.

got the same result by just rebooting into bootloader, then choosing fastboot>recovery.....then chose radio.zip i placed on "sdcard"...never having to plug phone into PC
On leedroid without the radio it gets about 12mb but with this radio i get 10mb, when i load the same site, this radio loads about 2seconds faster..tmobUS thanx btw
I too just flashed the .zip from Clockwork Recovery from my T-Mobile US phone for the EU radio. Working just fine.
I'm getting an error when I enter stock recovery that it can't find /sdcard cause the file doesn't exist... a little help please

Had the exact same problem as you.
I just flashed the recovery with CWM recovery image. The one in this topic didn't work for me cause it wouldn't mount the /sdcard either. I used a different version.
Then I just installed the radio.zip from this topic.
So if I have the last CWM, just I have to put the zip to the SD, and flash it from recovery?
Edit: The radio I have now is the 0.15.31501S.19_2_10.13.31501S.06L

From what Ive been told, and what I did, was to boot directly into the latest recovery image. Meaning, you dont flash the recovery image first, you simply fastboot boot into it, then you flash the radio.zip from there.
Again, make sure you pick the newest version of the recovery image.

Sim card unrecognized.

Hi guys! I flashed the cm12.1 rom and then the gapps zip. Everything worked fine but with no LTE. So I flashed a 6045l 6.x modem radio and now the sim card is undetected. I flashed back to stock MM and my sim card is still undetected. Is there a fix for this?
I'm on the cricket USA michigan service on the 6945l model.
You flashed back using mobile upgrade software?
I had the same problem and had to reflash the Panasonic Eluga firmware to get my SIM to detect again (then had to restore a TWRP backup after another failed attempt to get LTE back). It seems the 6045i_6.0.1_K7VAUEB0BG00_radio_update_usa.zip from famewolf's Mega folder breaks SIM detection (or I failed to flash it properly ). After coming across this thread, I'm now looking for those referenced files to hopefully restore LTE to my phone.

I have the 5.02 files from an untouched 6045I, that I use on cricket, it fixed my sim and lte issues, I'm not at home right now but if you think they can help, I can post them when I get home. I flashed them via fastboot, then ran mobile upgrade q and everything was fixed, I'm pretty sure I would not have had to use mobile q, and simply flashing those files allowed eluga switch even to see cricket lte, they just are not 6.0.1 versions so not sure how they would work on a MM rom. Let me know if you want them......
Edit: I see you were flashing CM 12.1, they should work fine just enter fastboot and flash the files after installing 12.1

I would appreciate those files when you get a chance. Mobile Q did not restore those files/partitions so I'm running the Eluga lollipop files with a 6.0.1 Project Material build from The Marionette and everything works aside from LTE.

Glad, everything worked out for you. I was so panicked when I lost LTE, I just assumed using Alcatels upgrade Q software it would fix things, but apparently it does not restore all partitions, which is strange, but at least there is a solution for it now. I have seen posts as far back as June where people have lost LTE, and we are just now finding out how to fix it, thanks to @Mario223 for providing the solution!!

I have the same problem on 6045Y variant after phanasonic Eluga I lost some bands. The very strange thing and that if I install with phanasonic Eluga leaving inside the sim card of my operator (Tim Ita) recognizes the sim and everything worked, when I try to put a different sim type Vodafone Wind H3G are not recognized. I have to use it again phanasonic EUGA With Inside operator sim that I will want to use then.
I also tried using panasonic EUGA without any sim in the phone but in the end did not recognize any.
I tried with MobileQ update but ninte to do the situation remains as it exits the panasonic EUGA.
Pi would love to restore my phone as it was before I could put any SIM of any operator and was recognized.
Does anyone have the right partitions of the model 6045Y mono sim 16GB thanks in advance.
Thanks to kal250, i can confirm this worked on my mothers phone, which is a 6045Y , and restoring those files and installing 6.0.1 on top worked out well.
What is not good was the panasonic recovery which started this mess ;( but thanks again to kal250

If it's a Verizon model, you can't unlock the bootloader. If it's from Google, you should be fine. I've not tried flashing a modem. If you can flash the factory images, just use the flash all script and remove the w. That will flash everything, including the modem, but will not wipe your data.

I can use the script but opening it in notepad ++ , the flash all bat doesn't show anything about modem. I've tried everything from just fastboot flash modem modem.img to
Flash modem slot a, etc. Keeps giving remote error flash modem not allowed . I really think Google just locked this phone down that much more. Ridiculous.
The factory image does flash the modem. It doesn't say so in the bat or sh files, but you'll also notice that it doesn't mention the boot, system, or vendor files either (along with many other things), even though those are most certainly flashed during an update. That's because those are all inside the image zip that is referenced in the last line of the bat or sh (where you remove the -w). It flashes everything inside of that, including the modem.
If a screwed up modem is your problem, flashing the factory image will fix it. If that doesn't fix it, then the modem is not your issue.

Ridiculous.

I don't know if this will work. I also don't know what the fastboot update command does under the hood. But the flash-all batch file does flash the modem image using the fastboot update command. What if you created a zip file with your modem image in it and then tried to flash it with the update command, or possibly replace the modem.img in the zip in the factory image with your image?

Your solution works only if the phone is rooted?

your phone need to be bootloader unlocked
I wonder if your solution would fix network switching issue I have? I cannot get data to work when I go underground by subway. The phone does not switch from band 38 (above ground) to band 1 (under ground) unless I toggle Airplane mode for 2 seconds at least. After this everything is fine.
Having my bootloade unlocked it would be an easy fix for my issue. I already tried flashing Oreo chinese modem but issue is still present...

you'll know it instantly when there's no way out repairing corrupt persist partition that cause no wifi/sensor/camera focus/bt etc. persist can't be flashed without authorized account to flush at EDL mood thus spending money or without opening the device.
beware of flashing any other then the persist.img from the stock fastboot rom .and mount the persist partition before flashing the img file at recovery.
and one thing fastboot method or fastboot from cmd can't flash persist partition as its protected by xioami tobring hell upon us at country like BD
If your at ARB 3 you still can mi flash to flash in EDL mood but at ARB4 your done for as you may already know that

T-Mobile 5G SA Update

If anyone is still on T-Mobile firmware and has installed the latest OTA that has 5G SA, can you pull and upload the modem for me if rooted? I recently updated to DP3 and get horrible service. Mostly because I forgot to flash my backup of the modem from the T-Mobile firmware. I don't know if International firmware contains the updated modem or whatever it is to connect to 5G SA so I figured if someone can pull it, I can fastboot flash it.
Or if someone has the latest OTA, upload it for me and I'll use Payload Dumper to pull the modem.

I would wait to install that update. TMO pulled that ota because it was breaking modem, wifi and such. If you really want it there's a guy who downloaded and proceed the link in over of these posts. I would link it but don't remember which. Happy modding!

Thank you. Unfortunately my dumbass updated to DP3 and didn't flash the modem from T-Mobile and when I updated from Oxygen Updater, it flashed over it so my service has been jank all day. Losing service where I never did when i was on OOS 10. I'm thinking about flashing the latest 5G SA update modem, and if that doesn't work, I'll flash the backup that I have. Only thing is, I don't have TWRP anymore so I have to guess the fastboot commands. It's either "fastboot flash modem modem.img" or fastboot flash modem slot_a/slot_b modem.img" but I'm guessing I don't need the slot_a/slot_b necessarily.

Awww that sucks. I think the one without the slots will work. But you can boot TWRP and flash modem if you got it. I don't have TWRP installed on my phone but if I need it I'll just boot it and use it until I reboot. Happy modding!

So flashing the backup modem I had and the one the user posted from the link you gave me was a no go. The whole phone bugged. No data whatsoever. Sim card icon with slash through it, no wifi, no quick settings, and phone took about 60+ seconds to boot. Unless I was doing something wrong. Since they were backups, I had to do "fastboot flash modem.emmc.win" command. What do you mean, you can boot TWRP even though it's not built for A11? Or are you referring to the Chinese TWRP that everyone keeps talking about that I can't find?

Shoot sorry about that. I didn't know what version you are on. I'm on TMO running global rooted. You may have to MSM back to stock and start over. This time back up and install your modem. Happy modding!
Edit: just a thought, you may want to reset phone first. Do a complete data reset to see if that helps before doing MSM. Happy modding!
