So i don't know if this has been asked or tried before but i always notice that when people flash new roms or go back to stock they sometimes lose root
or even custom recovery.
I could be wrong but before you reboot your phone,
after you just installed that rom couldn't you just flash the recovery.img and then flash the superuser.zip?
i mean shouldn't it at least work?

I'm about to flash my first custom ROM and have a few q's before I do it. Im on a SGS2 rooted with the help of Odin and S2root (like superoneklick I guess). I have flashed CWM recovery via Odin and my kernel is called 2.6.35.7 [email protected] # 12. My build number is XWKI4.
First question is if its safe to flash CM7 with above root and kernel (I know that its never completely "safe" to flash anything but you know what I mean =).
Second question is if I should flash through ROM manager or CWM recovery.
Third question is concerning market and gapps. How do I do to be sure of having at least market when Im on CM7.

I would definitely flash the ROM through recovery, I dont really trust ROM manager for that. Do a full wipe before flash. As for GAPPs, you can flash that through ROM manager.
Several months ago I purchased a NS4G on Craigslist. I wanted to use it as an iPod touch without the data. It came rooted with SuperUser. The phone keeps prompting me to OTA to 2.3.7 (it's currently on 2.3.5) I used Gingerbreak to unroot and it worked, SuperUser is now gone. However, ClockWorkMod Recovery is still present and 2.3.7 won't install. The phone reboots, goes to about 1/3 of the progress bar, and then fails. I just want to get the phone on completely stock 2.3.7, in preparation for the coming 4.0 OTA.
Hopefully the solution doesn't involve flashing a custom ROM, I've never done that before. Thanks!!
No need to get it OTA, you can just flash the stock ICS ROM found in the stickies of the development forum of this phone. Of course follow instructions closely.

You want to use fastboot to flash a stock recovery. Peter Alfonso has them all listed on his site.
Thanks. I'm really not familiar with fastboot, and is there any way you could give me a link with instructions or the files I need? My build number is GRJ90.
And if there's anyway for me to avoid a rooted stock ROM, that'd be great. Just pure stock 2.3.7.
The stock image on Rom manager has the recovery bootloader included.
Flash a stock gb rom from cwm. You will find a list of them in either general or android development threads, not sure which. Completely stock, unrooted and as far as I remember the stock recovery is included. If not then the person will never know anyway as if someone doesn't want any non stock features then they won't know how to get to recovery anyway.
Actually I don't think they have stock recovery. Just flash the stock rom and then fastboot flash the stock recovery like was mentioned above. All you need to type is:
Fastboot flash recovery xxxxx.img
Xxxxx.img is the name of the image file you download.
Don't cheat the buyer...Tell him exactly what he's buying...And that you returned thedevice back to stock again.It's just not worth it.
Let's say I want to flash a rom and made a backup thru CWM of my stock rom will I be able to keep root if I flash it back to the stock rom ?
II'm doing this cause I care most about no auto brightness issue than the actual advantage to go with a custom rom.

Why don't you just root your stock ROM then? You need to be rooted to flash CWM recovery anyways..

If your ROM is already rooted, and you're restoring it from CWM, yes. If you're using fastboot to re-flash the stock ROM, no, you'll have to re-root it.
I'm kind of confused about what you're asking, though. Can you give more specific details? Are you going to flash a different ROM and try to flash the stock ROM, or parts of it, on top of the new ROM? I wouldn't do that unless you're very sure of what you're doing.
I have a quick question. I wanted to install a certain ROM and was required to use their Boot File. I installed it and I then installed the ROM. All is great, however I was wanting to return to Stock and flashed the Stock Boot.img. My question is, what if I want to now stay with the custom ROM. Whats the harm? On top of that, how can I verify that the Boot was flashed?

Boot.img contains the kernel and some other stuff to help the phone boot.
The worse that could happen is the phone wont boot. To fix this just flash the correct boot.img
If you want to stay on a custom ROM, Just reflash the boot.img and then the ROM. you can swap back and forth from stock to custom as many times as you want. Just make sure you have the right boot.img(s) in case it fails to boot.
Great. I askked because I flashed a custom boot.IMG and then a custom rom. Then went back to stock Rom without flashing a new boot and it worked fine. Is therw a way to see what boot.IMG is currently flashed.

Hey guys I apologize if this has been answered, I searched but found nothing that addressed my question directly.
My friend decided I should root my One X, the problem is he used an old Clockwork Mod that is no longer supported. What I need to do now is unroot my phone because I'm having nothing but problems with this Rom. From what I understand from videos and everything else is I need to lock the bootloader and flash the stock rom. The issue I have is every guide I've come across so far all start out with "Only use this guide if you first rooted your phone using this method [insert author's rooting guide here]!"
Needless to say, I didn't use any of their methods. I've looked through the guides here and I see various recovery options, I'm just concerned about replacing my recovery tool. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to run another custom rom, you should actually just flash another recovery (read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677447) and flash another rom.
just flash stable cwm recovery-clockwork-6.0.2.8-evita.img
you can just flash it using Flash Image GUI if you can boot into your current rom, reboot recovery and flash the rom you want to flash. i wouldn't go back to pure stock seems like a waste of a good phone imo =)
