multitasking underwhelming for a 4gb ram phone? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Not sure if its due to some bugs or just how huawei prioritizes their memory but man do apps just randomly close a bit too frequently, sometimes even switching between 2 apps! The most recent example is if I'm listening to pocketcast and I take a picture, the audio stops and when I return to that app it does a fresh open.
it's somehow worse than my iphone 6 plus which I hated because the 1gb of ram wasn't enough.
This is on the US version. Maybe I should pick up a OP3T... but I swear the other 4gb ram android phones i've used were better at this.
Wonder if there are any tweaks I can do to help?

It's probably just their aggressive battery management. Try from battery optimization settings to check if your podcast app is set to close when not in use.

I have both the 3T and the Mate 9. I was going to sell the 3T but I am now considering going back to it and selling the Mate 9. I have noticed some freezing that goes on when I open apps. It doesn't happen a lot but I do notice sometimes I will click on an app it will freeze for a few seconds and then the app will open. I already reset the phone and it still occurs. Or I will be watching a movie in google movies and I go to exit out of the app and it'll freeze for a few seconds before exiting.
There are also app compatibility issues. When in google movies, if you try to adjust the volume the whole screen will turn black until you close the volume slider.
- Hulu does not work it just shows a black screen. Another user said I need to call Hulu to get it working because the default stream codex they are using doesnt work with the mate 9
- Google voice doesn't work consistently.

nah thats fine. the only time was with the camera... which itself is kind of a slog. Weirdly stuttery when most of the os is smooth. Wonder if there is a memory leak... or does leica tech requires all the 960 to do anything?
emui 5.0 might need a bit more in the oven.

I did have problem previously that runkeeper always closed when I switched to other app. But with latest software it's fixed

Are there any reasons to update to 4.4.3 aside from it simply being newer?

Are there any specific reasons for 4.4.3?
Is the radio better?
Is the OS faster?
Are there fixed bugs?
Are there fewer new bugs?
Is it more stable?
Is it more power efficient?
Are any of the above also true for the HTC+Verizon version we are given, as opposed to pure Google?
I would like to know this also. The only bonus I can think of is EPS mode which isn't as good as I thought it'd be (since I use different e-mail and text apps). So the biggest deciding factor for me to get 4.4.3 is a wash unless someone points out a bigger bonus that I'm missing. Till then 4.4.2 w/ Weaksauce is where I stay.
Its up to you. As there is a lot of fixes. But depends on the person. And what ROM your running. If you have your phone setup perfect and everything running great. Leave it alone.

OK Google works on any screen or while using any app. Also when the screen is off (while charging). Handy if you are one that uses it.
A lot of bug fixes and some new minor issues bit not much of a change. EPS mode enabled but actually preferred the regular PS which can be enabled by changing the value to TRUE in the defaulf.XML file.
I'm sure you saw a ton of news about Heartbleed. I believe all of the openssl libraries were updated in this release.

These features are available in the ok google settings on 4.4.2.
The settings were there but they didn't work. Works only on 4.4.3. Or at least that's what I read while trying to find why it wouldn't work for me previously (was on 4.4.2). Since updating, it works great.

Weird I've been using those features since I found them probably a month ago. Unless cleanrom made them work. I just tried it with a dozen random apps and it works fine, plugged in screen off also works fine. I wish it worked without being plugged in and screen off though.

Why does it cause the GPS and BoomSound logo to pop up every 3 seconds or so
Edit: After a day of use that app is garbage, Only works half the time and drains the battery way faster than it should(yes I understand its listening all the time, its worse than that.) Plus its using gps all the time, cant think of a reason it needs my location when all it does is trigger google now to start.
Will updating remove my root??

I've had it for almost a year, and yes it does use its fair share of battery, but u have to program it right. Being that it was made BEFORE Google released the ability to have it listening on all screens , there's an option to have it run ONLY while the screen is off, and I'm not sure what u mean about the gps, because it doesn't use location for me at all. U also have the option to blacklist it during certain apps (donate version ) its most certainly not "garbage" as There's really no other apps out that enable the always listening functionality… and if you do the regular ok google command, that makes the boomsound icon appear as well. So if you're saying your constantly seeing it, that means u didn't set it up right, u had it running ON TOP OF Google's always listening as well… so of course its gonna drain your battery… If u program it to only listen while the screen is off, you'll only notice the boomsound icon for a split second when u turn the screen on, and then it shuts off and googles listening takes over…

The camera seems to have gotten worse. I'm going to revert to 4.4.2

Having a major issue since 5.1.1 update

i have a t-mobile galaxy s6 completely stock and since the 5.1.1 update i cant listen to music or podcasts for more than roughly 10 minutes without the app closing on its own. i've tried searching for other people having this problem but i havn't found anything. maybe i was wording my search wrong. but can someone steer me in the right direction to fix the problem before i trade in this phone.
Update: it was an auto stop setting in the battery management section. I guess after the update it selected all apps to auto stop. All is good again.
try to factory reset your phone....but remember it will delete everything...so backup....

Not sure this is a memory management problem. My music has NEVER shut off by itself. Doesn't playing music use the mediaserver anyway, which is a part of the OS? Which apps are you using for music/podcasts?

It only happening on 5.1.1? It might be some apps not working property with 5.1.1 only I guess.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
Buy this app and freeze all unused and unwanted apps(including system apps) and this will let you free up lots of memory. It doesn't require root and only works for Samsung phones but I'm not sure if it still works on 5.1.1(5.0.2 it works fine).
That has nothing to do with ram management ... Because the same problem was on 5.0.2 andaybe t-mobile messed something up ...

Honor 6x Hangs in Nougat

Honor 6x which i purchased a month back was absolutely working smooth in marshmallow.
I did a update to Nougat Emui 5...mobile would work fine & very smooth for some hours after a reboot or clear ram frequently. If we dont clear ram/reboot & use it for more than a day....It just dont...hangs, lags, stutters
Funny part is...it holds apps which i opened almost 7/8 hours ago from ram(i would have opened 8-9 apps easily after opening that app)
It seems emui has some memory management issues which isn't killing very old processes/apps
In developer options...If we set background processes limited to 4....voila!!! it goes smooth again...as old processes are killed
so my question here is ....can we limit background processes to 8-10...as 4 in developer options is so less
if not....any workaround to fix this.....I remember following d above mentioned method in my old galaxy s2, friend's redmi 1s....i feel ashamed to do it my 6x in 2017...c'mon Honor !!!
Y doesn't it kill apps/processes which are too old and allow everything to run in background....Unless & until we open a heavy memory demanding app like a game...it wont kill old processes running in background....WEIRD !!!
Please refrain from clearing apps from RAM. They will just resurrect and come back more RAM hungry.

Emui is known for its aggressive killing of app in background. You can have 20 apps stored in ram and if you launch ine more then the 1sr app will be killed. Thats hiw EMUI works
Shashank u can decice how many apps to runned in the background . Probably the smart power 4.0 mean about the battery manager.

Did we miss a bunch of updates or just skip letters, I'm still on 10g and was looking for an update a few weeks ago and it said there was nothing. I'm refusing to update though holding out for root and usually being on an older firmware is best for that. (Sorry I didn't answer your question)
I didn't notice anything visible. Again maybe it's placebo but the phone feels smoother and faster with the update.

Another much needed change is the fact that you can now see other icons on the right side of the status bar. As in, you can visibly see the vibrate only icon, alarm, etc. A much needed improvement for the phone.

Wow. It was okay and now it's so much better with ram management. It was so smooth that I totally forgot about the reloads that I get especially with the browsers. I have just cruised through YouTube, Yelp, Chrome, Yandex Browser, Reddit, Google Maps, and Facebook without a single reload or refresh on these apps. The browsers have been my biggest pet peeve. The pages would refresh when you resume but now no more refreshes. This phone just got so much better with this latest 10k update all for $350 on OfferUp brand new.

Maybe also placebo effect or my phone just needed a restart; when taking a photo the photo saves instantly and you can exit out of the camera app right away. Before you'd have to wait or else the photo wouldn't save.

aggressive background killing of apps?

Hello just want to find out if the oneplus 7 pro still has the terrible issue where background apps are killed off as soon as you leave the apps?
The phone has been released for a while now. Can you guys who have the device please comment on this please? As the aggressive killing of background apps was terrible on the oneplus 6. Looking forward to your input.

8GB 256GB model, apps stay open for me just fine.
No issues here on my GM1917 8/256GB.
It is aggressive but since we can now turn off battery optimization at the app level I don't have a problem with its implementation.
It is happening to me for whatsapp most of the time. Thing to note is that i used titanium backup to install whatsapp into the 7pro from another phone.
I just turned off the battery optimization to see if it is going to change something.
I see aggressive app closures on my 7pro, 6gb model. Never had this problem on 5t, the phone I switched from.
Any suggested solutions?
