i have a t-mobile galaxy s6 completely stock and since the 5.1.1 update i cant listen to music or podcasts for more than roughly 10 minutes without the app closing on its own. i've tried searching for other people having this problem but i havn't found anything. maybe i was wording my search wrong. but can someone steer me in the right direction to fix the problem before i trade in this phone.
Update: it was an auto stop setting in the battery management section. I guess after the update it selected all apps to auto stop. All is good again.
try to factory reset your phone....but remember it will delete everything...so backup....

Not sure this is a memory management problem. My music has NEVER shut off by itself. Doesn't playing music use the mediaserver anyway, which is a part of the OS? Which apps are you using for music/podcasts?

It only happening on 5.1.1? It might be some apps not working property with 5.1.1 only I guess.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro
Buy this app and freeze all unused and unwanted apps(including system apps) and this will let you free up lots of memory. It doesn't require root and only works for Samsung phones but I'm not sure if it still works on 5.1.1(5.0.2 it works fine).
That has nothing to do with ram management ... Because the same problem was on 5.0.2 andaybe t-mobile messed something up ...

I'm on my third Nexus 5 that has had issues, and every single one of them have had this one. When using YouTube the video is jerky and stutters, and randomly there will be audio distortion and pops from the speaker. This is the third Nexus 5 I've had with this issue, and nothing I find can fix it. I can barely find any info on the internet about it.
From what I can tell it is limited to YouTube. The thing is, my old S2 on 4.1.2 had no such issue. None of my other electronics have any issues with YouTube to the degree this does. I'm past believing it is an issue with my phone(though it might be), because as I said, I'm on my third Nexus 5 with this issue.
Has anyone else had this issue? What are my options in trying to fix it? I've had such a bad experience with the Nexus line I'm close to giving up and buying a different phone. This is driving me crazy.
I hope someone can help. Thanks.

App is up to date, and my internet speed is at least 10mbps. I have 30 at home and have the same issues. It does this at home, here at work, and on 4G. But it couldn't be the internet connection as it works fine on my old phone and other devices.
Here's some more info.
Stock, unrooted, stock kernel, 4.2.2. I've been tempted to root and unlock the boot loader to install a new kernel and see if that helps, but I'm not used to rooting Nexus devices and don't want to make it difficult to upgrade to 4.4.3 when its released. Hopefully that will fix this issue, but Google has been radio silent on it so I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket.

I assume by 4.2.2 you meant 4.4.2
Try clearing data and cache on the YouTube app, if that doesn't help try uninstalling/uninstalling updates and reinstalling/reupdating.

Exactly. It's why I've ruled it out being a hardware issue, because this has happened to two other Nexus 5's I've been in possession of. It's so weird.
I've unlocked the bootloader, rooted it, all the fun stuff. I'm gonna try a new kernel to see if that will fix it.

Hiya,
Im having this issue as well. Some of the videos have disortion and stutters, but its not in youtube app. When I play videos form the websites it happens but, not in all of them. Dont know why some are ok and others dont. Sometimes its really annoying, especially when it stutters a lot in the playedback video. I do not know if its a hardware or a software issue.
EDIT:
Just checked the same video in Android Authority app and in Youtube app. In the first app audio stutters and being a wee bit choppy, in Yt however, everything is fine. Audio is clear, no stutters at all. So I assume its software issue and maybe audio codecs dont play well with third party apps. Also, I dont think there is a solution to this problem.

I was expecting a smooth beautiful phone...with the Qualcomm 810 but I can't even listen to Spotify and surf chrome without extreme lag, or an app closing out. The lag will come and go....and its actully lagging as i write this....i have nothing open.....I think its mostly a ram problem...and I'm so confused because they say the g flex 32 GB variants have 3 gbs of ram....mine is 32gbs....but I have 2....anyway...I've attached a video for proof of the lag...I've updated everything and everysthinga stock with about 20 apps installed....this is very frustrating because I didn't even have this much lag coming from my g2 and that's 2 years older..so I would love it if someone could get me some sort of help!

Lol definitely not chrome, it's my phone.... It could be a combination of Spotify, and Skype, and Spotify would is shut off it's mostly a ram problem
It's probably memory leaks. I changed my thermal throttling and I still have that happening. It's a known issue in 5.0. We will probably have to wait until we get 5.1 to see real relief. Often I am forced to restart my phone because it wont respond because it seemingly can't load anything else into RAM.
I'm pretty sure this is a ram issue. I've never experienced that with my 3gb model. Although the lag you're experiencing is what I had with my S4 with android 5.0 and it all got fixed when I upgraded to 5.1.

Unfortunately it looks like the best method requires Xposed which we can't install right now. You could try an app that will kill apps that are using a lot of memory. I don't have any recommendations though since I'm not currently using one but may end up trying it out soon since I'm getting tired of restarting my phone.

Currently there isn't a way to install the framework without an unlocked bootloader. It's possible that could change at some point but for now it's not possible.

Hey all,
I'm using swiftkey on my galaxy s6 and sometimes when I press a textbox in an app like whatsapp or hangouts it takes a while before the keyboard pops up. Also, sometimes it has to reload the dictionary after the keyboard opens (this takes just around a second). Are there more people with this problem? I didn't had this on my Xperia Z1. Is this problem RAM related? Because of the aggressive app killing on the s6.

What firmware version are you on? Is it the newest? Because I believe the issue is with the newest Samsung firmware. It has nothing to do with the hardware
as much as this phone lags I think this is an issue with the app. It did the same on my m8 and that phone never lagged with any other app. It was the reason I stopped using Swiftkey and I now prefer Google over it as the swipe text is way better on that

I also switched from Swiftkey to Google because of performance. That was on m7 and I tried again on S6E and, once again, preferred Google Keyboard due to performance. A shame though as Swiftkey used to be so good. Having said all that, perhaps it wouldn't suck so bad if this phone had better ram management.
I have the same issues with SwiftKey. I am running on latest Samsung 5.1.1 firmware. Sometimes everything seems to be fine and sometimes it takes years to pop up. I have no clue why. Already tried to reinstall, clear the app cache, no effect.

Can anyone confirm that the same problems occur with the latest beta version of SwiftKey?
I confirm that the bug has appeared with latest firmware. Yes, the new firmware has much better multitasking and ram management but this bug with swiftkey is so annoying.

Hey Guys, you're not alone and Swiftkey is notified about the issue but they're not sure if they can solve this problem. Take a look in the forum here: https://vip.swiftkey.com/index.php?/topic/12733-slow-showing-keyboard-on-s6-bug-reported/
But I think the biggest chance of getting this fixed is to inform Samsung about this problem and wait for a fix (if possible). Does anyone know if they are also already informed?

So my wife and I both got s8+ when they first got released. It seemed as if when we first got the phones, they were running flawlessly and fast as hell. Now a month or so later, both our phones seem laggy and sluggish. I always run device maintenance on both to keep things cleared up. Dunno what else to try. Wish we had root already so I can get rid of all this bloat and unnecessary stuff. Any recommendations from anyone? Dunno if maybe debloating apps or programs with a app is possible without root?

Have you checked who the offenders are in your phone? Which apps/processes are running the most and see if they are 3rd party apps that ruin the experience.
Have you tried changing launchers, maybe try Nova

I never faced any issues or lag except *bixby* for sure. I am using the exynos variant here i am not sure if it's something related to snapdragon chipset or not but
* we encountered lots of problems with note 4 snapdragon variants with emmc bug failure. The nand seems to be corrupted within 2 years and no solution for this kind of problem unless you buy a new motherboard
I bought this phone month a go and it runs as fast as it should
* my only advice for you is to try enabling debug GPU overdraw under developer option google it, definitely it's a 3rd party app causing this problem but in both phones i doubt.

Yeah see how much free space you have left... on your internal memory? I have noticed that my phone is filling up with all sorts of crap from a couple games I play and stuff the little advert videos and stuff it's taking up gigs of space...
The only place I see lag in the UI was when using the stock launcher. On the Snapdragon S8+ that i have the launcher that came with the phone is the worst performing launcher I've had out of the box in my 5 years of buying Samsung phones.
So ive been having this issue lately (on latest updates), running G955F (s8+) stock unrooted and knox still intact. I have like really low ram between 300-400mb and device lags all over the place . For example i cant leave games open that will close automatically after a while or if i need to see a whatsapp message most other backround tasks will close too which is anoying . And yeah i know how android works and the fact that more free memory doesnt mean better performance exactly, but when theres too low memory then apps starts to be killed etc , which gives bad performance overall.
To clarify all of this , i hard reseted the device already and when it boots with just whatsapp and messenger (not even facebook installed) i have already this low ram, been disabling apps with package disabler and free ram doesnt change. Tried also on developer options to limit proccessess with no avail too. So whats happening ? whats eating so much ram and why it doesnt free up ?, on later patches i used to have my common and pretty standart 1.5 to 2.0 gb free ram , now i have device that feels like galaxy s3.
Could it be faulty hardware ? i just dont know anymore at this point, i really tried all i couldve think of.
pd: I have latest stock DBT up to date with latest security patch too.

If I restart the phone, it continues to work fine and free ram is actually good , but as soon as I continue to use the phone then it starts to be less and less free ram available till 300-400mb when phone starts to lag and underperform.
And yeah I try to clean ram using in built device maintenance but when it gets too low it just doesn't change no matter how many times I free it,always stays at 400 or something and phone lags.

Yep ,stock Samsung unrooted same model as you. With messenger , WhatsApp and Pokemon go as only apps installed.
i also have a lot of apps and have 1.1-1.3gb always free. In settings>apps try to click on each app and u have an option to run in the background. try to disable that and see if ur ram usage drops.
---------- Post added at 09:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:51 PM ----------
And also try to disable things.... try to buy a package disabler from google play and disable stuff u don.t use..

Do this ONLY IF YOU DONT HAVE WARRANTY, if you have, send it.
My exynos s8+ is lagging until i could not even toss the pokeball properly. I have to struggle real hard to play pokemon go. I really could not believe what I am seeing for a 1 year old phone. This is very likely to be my last android phone.
Your ram is probably faulty, get it repaired.
Btw mine is from 20th of April 2017 and still flies. No reboots or anything between charges. No lag.

This is hardly a hardware issue.
