Google Keyboard stuck on Lock Screen - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hi XDA,
I am having an issue with my Google Keyboard since I got the device back in November, 2016.
If I'm using the phone in an app where the keyboard is showing (usually WhatsApp) and then lock the phone, upon turning it on again, the keyboard would be showing and blocking the pin code (unlocks fine with fingerprint)
this also blocks me from seeing notifications as the keyboard keeps showing until I lock the phone from the lock screen.
Additional info:
Currently on Beta Nougat 7.1.2 (issue started since 7.1.1)
Google Keyboard Updated to 6.0.79.144029707
I tried resetting the keyboard and even uninstalling, reinstalling, not updating, the issue stays.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome as long as it's not asking me to use SwiftKey or any other keyboard.

Have you at least tried another keyboard to troubleshoot? Maybe roll back the Google keyboard to am earlier version. See if the problem persists.

The issue is very inconsistent, it would take a while to test, I just uninstalled the Gboard so it's
Google Keyboard 5.2.1.136797460
I will test for a few days and update later, but as I recall, it will still persist on this version.

Upon checking now, the issue is back a few days later.
I am currently testing Chrooma GIF Keyboard as it's the closest I could find for Google's own.
I will update again if the issue arises.

Since updating to Lollipop I've also experienced a number of issues, including laggy home screen (it's blank for a second or two before the icons start loading, whereas before it was immediate) and huge number of Chrome crashes. Anyone know if there's anything we can do, or should we expect an update from Google?

Hi,
as i was not able to get any info regarding how to solve the issue, i did Factory Reset.
at the moment problem seems to be solved, i have left not installed now only 3-4 apps which I had before when the problem started.
2 hours after the operation finish i got nearly 10 google apps aupdate, chrome was one of them. it doesn't crash any more, keaybord shows up and works.
Also menu button works perfectly, when i press it all the apps show immediately, its doesn't take like 10-15sec for the apps to show up.
I do recomand to perform factory reset.
regards,

"Flashing"/Refresh every 6 to 8 seconds whenever composing with a keyboard

The Title pretty much says it all. Starting this afternoon, coincidentally or not after loading the March update, whenever I have a keyboard up to type something, the keyboard and/or the app flashes/refreshes. If I'm in an app, without using the keyboard - nothing.
At first I thought it was SwiftKey, but confirmed that it does it with Gboard as well.
Anyone else experiencing this, any thoughts or ideas?

The culprit was "Fingerprint Scanner Tool" seems to be a conflict with the March update.

Samsung Keyboard keeps stopping

I often get a popup that says Samsung Keyboard keeps stopping Close app
The only thing that works to get me back to being able to type is to go to my Gboard app and select, for the fiftieth time, the English language keyboard. Sooner or later, though, I get the annoying popup again and can't type anything until I do the Gboard thing.
Looking at some solutions online it seems maybe I need to clear a cache. But the following instructions, which are repeated in various ways in different sites/videos, don't get me anywhere.
settings
Applications
applications manager
Scroll over to ALL
Scroll down to Samsung keyboard
Clear cache
clear data
restart from home screen
Why? Because going to Settings doesn't get me to "Applications" but rather to "Apps" , and when I go there, there is no Samsung keyboard. Just Gboard. I just cleared Gboard's cache, don't know if I should also clear its data - what do I lose, really, when I delete its data?
Thanks for your help!
I have the same issue after I hit the Emoticon Icon. I installed a secondary keyboard and am using that currently.
Hopefully someone has help, it happened to me after a Verizon update on my Galaxy s6!

Which keyboard did you install? Are you enjoying it? Can I assume it stopped the problem?
Thanks!
I don't use the Samsung keyboard but this keeps popping up and I can't type anything. My phone did an update over night last night and now this problem. I'm at my wits end with what to do. Nothing is working and I can't type anything.
"samsung keyboard stopped working"
I had that problem after pressing the emoticon button too. I don't even use samsung keyboard. I did the clearing the cache, forcing stop, clearing the dictionary cache...none of that worked. Finally I reinstalled the google keyboard and the message went away. It was a frustrating few hours of trying different things!

Keyboard keeps stopping (possible fix)
Hi all,
I did this and it seems to be working so far:
Apps->Settings->Language and Input->Virtual Keyboard-.>Samsung Keyboard->About Samsung Keyboard (at bottom)->
At this point my phone stated that Samsung Keyboard had an update available. I tapped on that message, and it updated the keyboard.
After that I was able to tap emoticons without a problem. So far, so good. texting works, and all my message apps seem happy.
Hope this helps someone.

Thanks very much for this - fixed my Mum's phone which was crippled by this problem and I was concerned I wasn't going to be able to sort it so a big relief this worked.

This updating seems to have worked to fix the problem on my S6 also. Thanks a lot.
But the sequence to get there was slightly different. On my Sprint/Galaxy S6, the sequence was:
Settings>General Management>Language and Input>Virtual Keyboard>Samsung Keyboard>About Samsung Keyboard>Updates

No virtual keyboard - Gboard update is the cause

All of a sudden I noticed that my virtual keyboard was not coming on screen at all, no matter what app or things requiring an input.
I wiped the cache and that did not fix the problem. I then uninstalled Gboard update, and that had solved the problem.
Has anyone else experienced the problem? I do want to update Gboard as the update has features that I do like using, but am afraid it will not work again.
Should I contact Google support?
Thank you,

I just did the update again today to try it out and I can now use the virtual keyboard after I did the update. Very weird that it did not work the other day.

Screen goes black, buttons don't respond, can get calls from other phones to me

Hi all, I have been facing a really weird problem for the past few weeks. Sometimes all of a sudden, my phone screen completely turns black, and the buttons (as well as the alert slider) stop responding. There is no indication whatsoever that it is NOT switched off. However when I try calling it from another phone, ring can be heard as if my phone is working fine. I don't understand where the problem lies. Any suggestions are welcome.
I am rooted with Magisk 19.3, Riru-EdXposed 0.4.5.1 Sandhook, Riru-Core v19.5.
Edit: Android Pie. OOS 9.5.10.GM21AA
I had this problem recently when accessing certain apks. Reflashing the firmware sorted it for me.
no root same problem to me after I update from Android 9 to Android 10

Thanks I will try doing that.
Same problem here when opening quite a few apps. Issue didn't start until I updated to Android 10 (and rooted), on a converted T-Mobile variant. Wonder if that is the source of our problem. I'm sorely tempted to use the MSM tool and go back on TMO's Android 9 (and pray for a official update to 10). Unless someone can find a solution to this, rebooting the phone every time I want to open certain apps is a real pain.

It definitely is a A10 issue as I too have started to have this issue when opening games and ram extensive apps. A workaround is to open the game or app in split screen mode and once the app has started you can switch back to fullscreen mode or start the app from recents. That has worked for me 100% of the time. The 10.0.1 update seemed to make it worse because you have to reboot the phone to escape the black screen were as at first you could use gestures to escape the app.

Good idea using split screen, I'll have to start doing that for the time being. I moved over to Open Beta 3 and the issue is still there and worst as with 10.0.1. Hopefully OnePlus can nail this bug soon. It's turning a otherwise amazing phone into a headache.
I have the same problem. Running 10.0 rooted. For me, this has only happened when opening Youtube Vanced. One clever solution is to enable "Quickly turn on camera" and doublepress power if this happens. This launches camera and returns the screen to normal.

Experiencing this too, it does seem to be related to certain .apks, how bizarre is that? Really don't want to re-flash as I am encrypted... Can you dirty-flash with an encrypted system and not loose any data?

I reflashed through TWRP and all data was fine. I'm encrypted too.
But it goes without saying, make sure you do a backup before flashing anything
