Hi All,
Usual case here of a desperate cry for help. Not ventured into the Root world since my HTC M7 days and wish I hadn't now but here I am.
I have Clockwork Mod on my phone, OEM setting changed, and then I thought hey I'm ready to go. Downloaded auto-root for my SM-G930F and latest Odin, powered into download mode, plugged in the USB and ran ODIN with correct boxes checked.
Fast forward 1 1/2 hours and it was stuck on the cache img.ext4 for all that time. Don't ask how but at this point after googling every word combo I decided I'd pull the USB and run ODIN again but then..... 'AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED WHILE UPDATING THE DEVICE SOFTWARE. USE THE EMERGENCY RECOVERY FUNCTION IN THE SMART SWITCH PC SOFTWARE'. Schoolboy error but hey ho.
I've tried this, put S/N in etc, but it says I need to contact a service center. I know my Warranty is void.
Basically how on earth do I get back from this situation. It's over 3 hours since this message and I''ve been looking and looking on the net for answers.
Obviously loss of data etc. is not an issue, I'd just like to use my phone again.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Solved. DL TWRP and ran it on Odin . Drama queen here

Hi,
I installed cynogenmod 7 on my captivate, but due to some issue regarding TV out I tried to uninstall it. I used one-click stock 2.1 ODIN to go back to stock. But now my samsung captivate is not working at all. I am using charged battery, but the phone does not start at all. It only goes into download mode and nothing else. ODIN hangs at factoryfs.rfs. I have tried almost all methods on xda forum and tried almost everything from google searches. Nothing is working. I used Win 7, Vista and XP and 2 different computers. The phone is not recognized by the PC many times.
I talked to someone and he said that my phone has hard-bricked. And it needs advanced soldering and a special box to repair the phone. Can anyone help me, please?
Thanks!
you might be able to hard reset it. unless you totally effed the EEProm. which the only way to fix is to put it into Developer Mode and try to put a Stock EEprom back on it. (or find the ClearCMOS pins and short them)
chalk this up to a learning experience, better to learn a little at a time than to just dive to the bottom of the ocean with no recovery.
do you even know about the hardware in it? if you did, you could grab the developer tools. (I like QPST and QDXM myself)
backup the important stuff, just so in case you totally brick the thing.
I do not know anything about the hardware in my samsung captivate. The phone connects to the computer some times. Device manager shows Samsung USB Component Device and Samsung Mobile Modem #2 in Win 7 64bit. But QPST, QDXM and adb devices do not recognize the phone. ODIN recognizes it but now ODIN is stuck at <ID:0/005> File analysis..
Since the phone does not start at all, I can not hard reset it. Nor can I go into developer mode. It only goes into download mode saying "Do not turn off target!".
Do you think there is a way to repair / unbrick the device? Can you guide me through the steps, please?
Have you tried taking out the battery and the sim card and then putting the battery back in and using the 3 button method to get into download mode so odin will recognize you? Or have you tried buying/making a JIG?
Helloo guys; please help me i upgraded to ICS and tried to go back to GB but when i did it didn't work stucked at the (touch the android) screen doing a little search i saw that i have to flash another kernel also did it without success.

I'm sorry, I advise you to try the jig for 10 seconds or press the 4 spin battery and try to turn it on

Hi,
I see you've already asked about this in the appropriate section for your device.

That's awesome! :good:
As XDA Assist is here to help navigate the site, not for support... I'll close this thread since you already found your way.
Good luck!
Ok. So I was attempting to unroot my phone earlier, so I downloaded a stock firmware and used odin to put it on my phone (don't know the technical term). When is was going through all of the things in odin, it said it failed and said 'Complete(Write) operation failed'. I then tried to download a stock firmware from another site, and the same error popped up. I kept retrying and sooner or later I realised that my phone was saying that there was an error updating and I need to use emergency recovery thing in smart switch. I tried this, and neither smart switch, or Kies recognised my device. I then tried to use odin to flash this TWRP thing I have from something I did a while ago. This worked somewhat as I can now access this thing call team win recovery project. I can also enter download mode. Does anyone know how to help me?
Thanks
Edit: It seemed as it solved itself, look in the replies for details
So i have had my gs7 rooted for a year or longer. Yesterday i rebooted my phone and got the error message "Custom binary blocked by FRP lock". Sadly, when i enter download mode and plug it into a pc with odin installed, it is not recognised. Odin does not say anything about a phone plugged in, and windows says the usb is not recognized.
What i think have caused this:
I downloaded an app that allowed me to record internal audio
I turned off developer options, and my stupid ass did not realize that is where oem unlock is located.
What i have tried:
Resetting to factory settings (from recovery mode)
Deleting cache (from recovery mode)
Using odin, but odin does not even recognize my phone
Tried using another computer with odin
tbh, looking at the other posts, i think i messed up. I dont want to send it in for repairing because i will have to pay a lot of money. I have tried sending it in for repairing a while ago. Then my problem was that i could not call with it, but they wanted me to pay the price for a new phone to repair my old phone, since i had rooted it. I did not accept it so i got my phone back, and managed to fix the issue myself. I hope i manage to fix the issue this time aswell.
There are lots of guides online on how to resolve this issue, please Google and read. Please make sure you have Samsung USB drivers installed on your pc

I have samsung usb drivers installed, and download mode has always been working and has always been recognized by odin ever since this happened. And online all i find is that i should boot into download mode and try using odin, but odin does not recognize my phone, nor does my computer.

Please pay attention to guides when messing about with your phone, OEM and Debugg are critical to being able to modify.

SOLVED!
The issue fixed itself, im not sure what i did. I was suddenly able to connect my phone to odin. Just incase someone reads this with the same problem. This is what i did: installed smart switch and rebooted my computer. Uninstalled and reinstalled samsung usb drivers.
Before i did those things the issue was still there, i was ready to use smart switch, but i tried odin one last time and it worked. Now samsung pass tells me my phone is rooted, even though it is not (my root dissapeared after resetting my phone), its not that big of an issue, just thought id let you know
