[Completed] J5 not sure what i've done - XDA Assist

hello guys
I've been trying to use my sd card as internal storage, but since the newest update doesnt let you do that anymore I found this thread> https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/themes/galaxy-j5-adaptable-storage-6-0-1-t3470020
now it says that i need to install twrp, so I tried to
when I started flashing twrp w/ odin, a "reset!" message appeared, so i turned it off and went to recovery mode to see what happens
now this is where it got scary
there was an orange line at the lower part of my screen and the whole thing started looking like a broken tv with those black and white snowflake-like thingies
any ideas what I've done?

Ok that looks like the correct recovery, have you tried a different version of odin/usb lead just to be certain

So, I think I misunderstood your question
I thought you were asking about the phone model (sm j500f) , not the recovery version. I used the first one, not the one I linked in my previous reply.
Should I try the other one?
And no, I was too scared to
Anyway, I was able to use my sd card as internal storage back when I used 5.1.1. I found the old firmware on sammobile -> https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/103392/J500FZHU1API2_J500FZZH1API2_TGY/
can I just flash it and go back to 5.1.1?

Alright
I couldnt wait and flashed the recovery you said was correct.
It worked, thank you
But is there a correct guide to partition my sd card?

I would be careful when partitioning the sd card, its probably easier and safer to use something like links2sdcard or apps2scdcard instead

[Q] Tablet stuck at Android screen

Hey guys, I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong thread but I urgently need help from you guys!
So now I am having a china tablet, it is Ployer MOMO5 (if you guys know) and after using for awhile, it has stop working and I decided to upgrade its firmware.
I used Micro SD and I dowloaded the firmware from Ployer website.
After upgrading, everything went smoothly but it stucks at the 'android' word screen, and it is forever!!!
Anyone here can guide me regarding this?
I need this urgently thanks!

Any idea why it stopped working before you upgraded the firmware?
Not sure, maybe i did not use it for too long already.
Then when I on it initially, it showed all the RAM ROM and numbers (Not sure what it is called)

Then I decided to upgrade it by downloading the latest firmware, insert it into my micro SD and insert it into my china tablet to upgrade.
Everything worked fine.
But now I cant on it.
How did you install the firmware?Using a custom recovery or the pre-installed recovery of the tablet? And do you happen to have a backup of the working OS?

[Q] Wiped my internal storage before flashing, how do I move the zip over now?

So I accidentally wiped the internal Storage on my XT925 RAZR HD, before flashing because well I'm silly.
Now, I can boot into fastboot, and recovery, but I dont know how to get the phone into a state where I am able to use adb push to move the .zip with the new ROM onto my device so I can flash it with recovery,
have been searching for a while now but to no avail,
I dont expect a direct answer but maybe someone can point me in the right direction.
Any and all help Appreciated!

Thats the thing I've tried flashing back to stock but it encounters an error and fails out , so that option unfortunately is out, I think I may just have to go buy a MicroSD card tomorrow and copy the new ROM that way
I used this toolkit to flash fw on my xt925 and it worked flawless in fastboot if you can get the rom on the pc etc, its worth a shot

[Q] Galaxy Note 1 I717 Stock Flash won't fix boot loop

I received a Galaxy Note 1 I717 (AT&T) and it was in a bootloop. I have experience with flashing stock roms through Odin and fixing bootloops that way. So after going through recovery mode, wiping, flashing, I am still getting put into a bootloop after a successful flash on Odin. I've spent 2 days with this and tried all the little suggestions of wiping before flashing, using the original roms from XDA , trying some other stock roms specifically for my model and I'm still left with a bootloop. I'm capable of getting into download and recovery, and I've actually gotten different stock recovery modes! So the flashes are working, but it just won't boot up correctly. I looked around for the U.S. version of the Pit CSC Phone and PDA to try and re partition it, but they are absolutely NOWHERE! Any help would be greatly appreciated, whether it's a ROM suggestion, the re partition files, or whatever else.

A bad kernel can be the cause of this problem. Try and search for a custom kernel for your device and flash it.
I hope this will solve your problem.

OK, download these files and put them on your device:
Rom: http://goo.gl/81TamM
Gapps (important!): http://goo.gl/ws5KZF
Then follow these steps exactly:
1. Boot to recovery (CWM or whatever you use)
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Dalvik cache (advanced-> wipe dalvik cache)
5. Flash rom
7. Flash the gapps
This must work, if it doesn't, please say it, maybe I can help you further.

My bad for not properly explaining my situation, the note is stuck in a boot loop. So I can't upload files to it through drag and drop in USB. It's still capable of flashing through Odin and going into recovery with CWM, but there's no way I know of putting files onto a boot looping phone.

Are you sure you gave me the right ROM to install?

Status 7 means the device is incompatible, but that's impossible since we have the right ROM for your device.
OK just be sure, I'll give you another ROM and you must follow the other steps, but with the different files of course.

Google Apps: http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
This is an Android 4.3.1 ROM so you're really up to date with this one.
Put these on a SD Card and follow the given steps in my other post.
This one has to work.

I'm 100% positive, I'm looking at the back below where the battery goes and it says SGH-I717. I thought that model number meant for sure it was AT&T. I live in the states also if that helps.

I bought it from a friend because they had it in a boot loop. Everything on it was completely stock since they were your average user, I'm pretty sure this isn't a hardware issue either if that helps because randomly after flashing CWM one time it actually booted up and I was able to use the phone. But after rebooting, it bootlooped again :\. I haven't been able to replicate this again sadly.

Hosed my new phone (S8+)

Ok, got my new S8+ today. I have not had a Samsung device for quite a few years, but do remember how to use Odin. I downloaded TWRP, Odin 3.1.2 and put the phone in download mode. Got the pass in Odin and rebooted and got to TWRP without issue. Now came my dumbass move. On the opening screen, I did not press keep read only. I was then going to flash a ROM to customize the phone. When I rebooted, it took a dump. I can get as far as the Samsung screen and then it says something about not being able to verify with the box at the bottom that does a factory reset. I pressed that and it booted to TWRP with several lines of errors of trying to mount data. There is 0 data on the phone now. And now, when I am in TWRP, my pc only recognizes the phone as a twrp decive - no phone files or anything else. I am going to try to put Omega on the phone and see if it will rebuild it for me.
Anybody got anything to offer? I am such a dumbass!!!
Is there any place that I can get Odin tar file of a factory image? I have searched on google and in here and do not see any place to download it.
I still have my Nexus 6P, so am not down without a phone.

Where did this problem start? Did you cause this by modifying, attempting to root or flashing the device with something that caused this?
If so, about your only option is to use your device's flashtool to flash the stock firmware. If your device's stock firmware isn't available then you might be out of luck repairing your device. If this is the case then your only other option might be getting someone that has a device exactly like yours that is rooted and getting them to pull copies of the various .img files needed for your device then using adb shell to dd those .img files on your device. But, to be honest, I don't think this is gonna happen for you. You probably will have to take the device to a repair shop. It will probably be cheaper to just buy another tablet because the cost of repair will probably be more than what you paid for the device.

Okay not sure which Flash tool to use nor get my stock rom I dread to say but i dont think there is one available. Its a generic tablet its made by Quanta. Not sure how to put it in a download mode either I assume ADB is the only way to transfer any files.

Your device probably uses SPFlashtool or fastboot.

Its pretty easy to fix a soft bricked device , even if stock rom isnt available , any rom compatible with his device can fix the issue .

To be compatible, the ROM typically has to be ported and that usually requires the stock firmware or stock source from the device that the ROM is being ported over to. 99% of the time you can't just flash a ROM from a different model number, even if the CPU is the same, there's quite a bit more to it than that. The android operating system is built for the specific hardware it is installed on, the two devices would have to be exactly the same and have the exact same components, any differences in hardware make he firmwares incompatible.
For this particular device, I doubt the stock firmware or stock source code area available, even if it were, porting another ROM wouldn't be necessary because if it were available it could just be flashed with that instead of porting a ROM.
About the only time a ROM from a different model number can be used without any porting or edits being made is when the devices are exactly the same device just rebranded with a different "name".
But thanks for trying to tell me something that you thought I didn't know, now it seems I've told you something that you didn't know.

1.Search for your tablet's root package , download it and move it to your tablet's sd card. Then enter your recovery mode by pressing power button+ Home button+ Volume button at same time for 10sec. Once entered , go to option "apply update from sd card" and select the root package you downloaded. (CONGRATS YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR PHONE!)
2.Search for your tablet's 'custom recovery' , download it and flash it through odin tool(pc) .
3.Final Step ! BASED ON THE RECOVERY YOU FLASHED THESE STEPS MAY DIFFER , SO REPLY ME IF YOU SUCCEED IN FLASHING CUSTOM RECOVERY

Odin is for Samsung devices, not other devices.
The device they are repairing is not a Samsung device. They have this device and a Samsung device. The issue on this device occurred while they were in the process of flashing their Samsung device.
I know you're trying to help but don't post anything unless you are absolutely certain that you know what you're talking about.
In this case, you didn't and that can easily lead to a hard bricked device because they followed your instruction.
Stick to answering questions about devices you personally have dealt with, don't go assuming that you understand someone else's device. They are all different, the methods, tricks and tools for one won't necessarily work on another.
You understand android somewhat but judging by your posts, you don't understand the differences in devices and methods. But you will after you've been here a while.

DO NOT USE ODIN ON YOUR DEVICE!!!
Odin is only for Samsung devices.

thankyou so much for the fast responses much appreciated to take your time to explain. Okay i have a question what would be the course of detailed action to preform getting any and all missing .img's it may need. Also i know its a crazy question but would i be able to preform this in store with the displayed tablet that matches mine? How difficult is something like this, and is there any other methods at all I can try to boot past this bootloader. And now that i remember correctly from reading others this happened when I upgraded to 5.1 or 5.0 thank you everybody once again!

No, you wouldn't be able to get it from a tablet in the store, it's a rather involved process that requires connecting the device to PC, it also requires rooting the device and flashing a custom recovery, and that's all before you actually get to where you can pull the files. It'll take a couple of hours,or more to do it.

The only other option is pretty risky. You can try a firmware from another device that has the same CPU and hardware as your device, you'd have to compare specs. It would have to have the same CPU, same screen resolution, same camera(front and rear), same amount of RAM, same amount of internal storage, same accelerometers, etc.. It has to have all the same components that yours has.
