You want help with a device but you don't tell us any kind of information about your device, how smart was that? What you need and how to do it can depend on what device model number you have.

Where did this problem start? Did you cause this by modifying, attempting to root or flashing the device with something that caused this?
If so, about your only option is to use your device's flashtool to flash the stock firmware. If your device's stock firmware isn't available then you might be out of luck repairing your device. If this is the case then your only other option might be getting someone that has a device exactly like yours that is rooted and getting them to pull copies of the various .img files needed for your device then using adb shell to dd those .img files on your device. But, to be honest, I don't think this is gonna happen for you. You probably will have to take the device to a repair shop. It will probably be cheaper to just buy another tablet because the cost of repair will probably be more than what you paid for the device.

Okay not sure which Flash tool to use nor get my stock rom I dread to say but i dont think there is one available. Its a generic tablet its made by Quanta. Not sure how to put it in a download mode either I assume ADB is the only way to transfer any files.

Its pretty easy to fix a soft bricked device , even if stock rom isnt available , any rom compatible with his device can fix the issue .

To be compatible, the ROM typically has to be ported and that usually requires the stock firmware or stock source from the device that the ROM is being ported over to. 99% of the time you can't just flash a ROM from a different model number, even if the CPU is the same, there's quite a bit more to it than that. The android operating system is built for the specific hardware it is installed on, the two devices would have to be exactly the same and have the exact same components, any differences in hardware make he firmwares incompatible.
For this particular device, I doubt the stock firmware or stock source code area available, even if it were, porting another ROM wouldn't be necessary because if it were available it could just be flashed with that instead of porting a ROM.
About the only time a ROM from a different model number can be used without any porting or edits being made is when the devices are exactly the same device just rebranded with a different "name".
But thanks for trying to tell me something that you thought I didn't know, now it seems I've told you something that you didn't know.

1.Search for your tablet's root package , download it and move it to your tablet's sd card. Then enter your recovery mode by pressing power button+ Home button+ Volume button at same time for 10sec. Once entered , go to option "apply update from sd card" and select the root package you downloaded. (CONGRATS YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR PHONE!)
2.Search for your tablet's 'custom recovery' , download it and flash it through odin tool(pc) .
3.Final Step ! BASED ON THE RECOVERY YOU FLASHED THESE STEPS MAY DIFFER , SO REPLY ME IF YOU SUCCEED IN FLASHING CUSTOM RECOVERY

Odin is for Samsung devices, not other devices.
The device they are repairing is not a Samsung device. They have this device and a Samsung device. The issue on this device occurred while they were in the process of flashing their Samsung device.
I know you're trying to help but don't post anything unless you are absolutely certain that you know what you're talking about.
In this case, you didn't and that can easily lead to a hard bricked device because they followed your instruction.
Stick to answering questions about devices you personally have dealt with, don't go assuming that you understand someone else's device. They are all different, the methods, tricks and tools for one won't necessarily work on another.
You understand android somewhat but judging by your posts, you don't understand the differences in devices and methods. But you will after you've been here a while.

thankyou so much for the fast responses much appreciated to take your time to explain. Okay i have a question what would be the course of detailed action to preform getting any and all missing .img's it may need. Also i know its a crazy question but would i be able to preform this in store with the displayed tablet that matches mine? How difficult is something like this, and is there any other methods at all I can try to boot past this bootloader. And now that i remember correctly from reading others this happened when I upgraded to 5.1 or 5.0 thank you everybody once again!

No, you wouldn't be able to get it from a tablet in the store, it's a rather involved process that requires connecting the device to PC, it also requires rooting the device and flashing a custom recovery, and that's all before you actually get to where you can pull the files. It'll take a couple of hours,or more to do it.

The only other option is pretty risky. You can try a firmware from another device that has the same CPU and hardware as your device, you'd have to compare specs. It would have to have the same CPU, same screen resolution, same camera(front and rear), same amount of RAM, same amount of internal storage, same accelerometers, etc.. It has to have all the same components that yours has.

[Q] status of my phone

i had tried to install a custom rom and my phone is not starting in either way
it is neither starting in download mode ; the normal on nor in the recovery mode
i have already done this rooting and i am not new to installing custom rom in my device i.e. SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE.
i have also tried to boot it by using usb jig but it failed.
so guys do u have any idea how i can get my phone back or is it bricked for ever.
please share ur views.
Can you link the ROM you flashed?
If you take out the battery then put it back in, then turn it on (or attempt to), does it do anything at all? Vibrate, flash something, anything?
If you plug it in to your computer, does it recognize anything as plugged in, even just a driver?

I notice it says this
Caution: This update should be strictly applied to the devices which are having the model number as ACE S5830i and is not for S5830 model. If you still continue to update in your S5830 model, then we should not be held responsible for any damage happened.

To unbrick try the method here

the 2nd section on unbricking, there's a chance you are missing the drivers necessary to have your computer recognize it and restore it. It's worth a shot.

Oh, I didn't actually watch the video, I assumed "unbrick" had something to do with maybe not being able to access Download Mode.
Something crazy, are you sure your battery is in correctly, and are any of the pins that connect to the battery from the phone bent?

Sounds hard bricked to me, let me see if someone with more knowledge on that phone has better insight.
It does sound like its hard bricked.
If usb jig didn't work for you, then only Samsung can fix it for you.
As for warranty, depending on what reason you give them for the "sudden death" of your phone, you might be able to claim it.
Your phone's hard bricked. Get it repaired in the service center!

They might honor the warranty without having to "have" anything, just ask them. I have no idea how much they'll charge.
Motherboard replacement - anywhere around 2500INR
Approx 50USD.
There's one last thing to try.
JTAG. If you don't know how to do it, ask these guys if they can help you with your phone. http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/
They're very good and trustworthy, and their service is great.
It may not start in Download mode, but I'm quite sure a JTAG is still in point. If it doesn't boot into Download mode, it means bl.bin got messed up, which is something unusual since only Samsung code/flashable through ODIN can change that file.

You will have to send it to them and it will cost money. It's not something you can get a guide to do - they need to hook up hardware to the phone and that hardware is more expensive than paying them to do it, and not a "do it yourself" kind of thing.
You could search for JTAG repair in your country. Shipping might not be too bad in a small pre-paid USPS PMI box if you have access to that - I sent a small box to Russia for $13 USD

[Q] Rooting Photon Q LOST and CONFUSED

Hi, I am new to this and decided I need to root my Photon so I can use it as a WIFI hotspot for my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet. I have read so much I am totally lost and confused. I have tried pdanet foxfi(which did work with my laptop but that is now unusable) and such but I can only browse web on my tablet and nothing else. Every app says check internet conection or wifi connection. I need to be able to use apps that require wifi such as team viewer. Please help. I don't know the first thing about this.
I have sprint (regrettably stuck for 2 years now) but love my photon. If someone can post a link with like 1 2 3 type steps it would be fantastic. I know zilch and the more I read the less I know like minus zilch lol. I find using my tablet is so much easier too read that I would rather use it if I can for internet stuff versus my phone.
Thank you.
Is your device rooted and the bootloader unlocked?
Have you considered CyanogenMod or another custom ROM? Tethering works out of the box on most of those.
When I was on the stock ROM (before CM was on the device...) I used a wifi tether app from the Play Store, but you did have to be rooted to use it.

Haven't considered anything yet, am just learning bout this. Phone is standard, no unlocking or anything. I am just leaning terms also. I don't know how to unlock or root. So neither are done. Have no idea about ROMs yet. As I said, am just starting so forgive me for being ignorant of these things at this time.

No worries.
I think there's still a way to root without unlocking - but here's the jist.
Unlocking allows you to do anything - custom recovery, custom ROM, whatever you please. Rooting only allows apps on your device root access - so you still have stock recovery, stock ROM.

lol, yes. Unlocking is pretty simple, just make sure you are getting the code correct - has to match exactly!
The only downside is the official warranty is voided - but if you have insurance with your provider, they should still honor it. Just the manufacturer warranty is voided.

I get off work in a few hours and after some sleep will go try that link up above. Desktop running xp. Have never connected photon to PC yet. Hopefully will go smoothly.
You should be fine running XP. The instructions from Windows 7 should be the same and if not they should be similar enough that you know what to do. I put the disclaimer in there because I don't like saying "this is how you do this" without having tested it first hand.
I installed the drivers and SDK now onto the rest hopefully tomorrow as I didn't want to start with only a few minutes left before I had to come to work.

I have to work til 6pm or so therefore I won't be able to try anything til I get home. I remember the last Motorola I had also (Droid 3), I could never "sync" to my pc as my pc wouldn't recognize it to let me view files. Can anyone tell me what I am missing? I will reconnect my phone tonite and get the exact messages that the pc are telling me when I connect my phone. Thank you

Different cable? Different port? Different PC?
Are you sure the drivers are installed? Does the PC make a sound when you plug it in, indicating that it recognized *something* being plugged in?
How does it show up in device manager?
Please give us as much detail as you possibly can. What you've tried, etc.
Also, if you have debugging on turn it off, or if it's off, turn it on.

is there a way to revive a phone that doesn't boot, nor lets me access recovery mode or fastboot or bootloader?

Please ask specific questions as its related to the phone model. I'm not hopefully about it. You can get it serviced by "bootloader repair" Should be about 40$.
Some of the more common phones can be unbricked on your own.

I've already posted here, but I received only one answer, so I decided to speak more general just to know if it is theoretically possible to rescue a phone in the situation I described.
Anyway, do you think that there is no way that the pc can communicate with a phone that doesn't even reach the bootloader?
Ok, I'll ask a different question: the phone I'm talking about ended up this bad while flashing an official OTA.
How is that possible?
I thought there was no possible way that an OTA messed with the bootloader, or the recovery... or fastboot! Doesn anyone know what could possibly have gone wrong during the update?

Actually, it seems like your phone is bricked, there are some methods to unbrick some phones but I don't know if they would work for you, just try to do a Google search how to unbrick a bricked phone, and it might return with some useful stuff, try everything that's possible, because nothing worst can happen over a brick(except it can blast in your hand if you connect a high voltage in place of battery)(lol, it won't happen! )
Hit Thanks if I helped sent from my SM-T211
Already done that, I'm giving up if my pc cannot communicate with the phone.
At this point I'd only like to know how could an OTA corrupt the bootloader.

Only thing you can do now is, go to store(from where you buy your phone, act dumb and tell them that this won't turn on, they might replace your phone!

It wasn't me, it was my cousin, who flashed an OTA which apparently corrupted all the layers of the OS. I believe him, but I find it incredibly difficult to happen, so I wanted to know if that could really happen.

I never heard of it.

It means that the flashing went bad and now the phone is unusable. I cannot make it communicate with the pc. No access to recovery nor bootloader nor fastboot nor anything.

Try smart phone flash tool(on pc), I recently came across a thread in which author said he have a hard bricked xolo phone and it don't boot to anything, but responds to SP Flash tool. Give it a try, if might work.
I don't have it's link, Google it

Help recovering files from an s3

Hey all! My friend has an s3. He is in a different state so I can't experiment on it quite yet.
He has a lot of files he needs to recover from the internal storage. He already has the sd data.
The issue is that the phone will not fully boot. It gets a little past the verizon logo and crashes.
He has tried wiping cache, and booting without the sdcard in.
What can we do to get those files for him?
Verizon said they can't use their diag machine since the device needs to fully power on for them to service it in that fashion.
Is it possible to flash the stock system partition without overwriting data via Odin?

Really kind of a tough situation.
Can he get into recovery mode? If so maybe he can pull data from it that way. There's a few ways to do it. It's hard to tell unless I see what the phone does when it boots.
Sorry for the late reply, hardly ever check these forums anymore.

I know he can get to stock recovery, because he's wiped cache that way. I don't believe that he is rooted or anything. I won't know for sure until I'm in person. The issue is that he thinks Verizon wants him to send the phone to them. He used a free upgrade. They sent him the replacement phone with a return box, so he's still not sure at the moment. And I haven't used an upgrade in about 4 years so I don't remember ever having to give back a device.

If he has USB debugging enabled be can use ADB to pull the SD card folder onto his computer in recovery mode.
Otherwise can't do much with stock recovery, if he's rooted you may be able to load TWRP from download mode and boot immediately into recovery mode.

He's got the SD data. We're working on the /data/ partition now. I think it's mainly notes and pics if I'm not mistaken. I'm really hoping that he's rooted and just forgot or something.
We can make it into odin mode.
You don't need root.

I'm thinking of trying to flash stock via Odin to see if that will make it boot. Otherwise, it may have to go jtag route.
I am going to attempt to ODIN on it. Unfortunately I don't know what version of android he was on.
Which ODIN files would you recommend? Preferably one that won't need me to wipe the data partition. Also, please provide links if possible. I have found some stuff on my own, but a lot of links are dead.

Odin will wipe everything. Every .tar file I've come across essentially just return the phone to a completely stock state.
Wish I had old stuff but I don't. What have you found?

Ah, I had found one that said it wasn't going to wipe data. I'll try to find the link again today. They were saying it was like doing an ota update and it would leave data in place.

O wait I think I vaguely remember, but that we when the bootloader was unlocked, like 5 years ago.
Make sure you post the for here and I can try to help you, but if it's an older version it won't. You need to make sure the Odin file is the same or newer than your current bootloader.
@BadUsername I found this, which has the crappiest hosting servers I have ever seen. You can only download one file a day, so I need to keep changing my IP if I need more than one file from it. here
This is the no-wipe file i was referring to. I am just not sure if it is an android version that his device will accept. I am not sure if Odin allows you to go forward and backward. Here

Just open up download mode and post what it says in the top left corner.
Also that file you posted first is the newest one, assuming it's legit it would work. That would for sure wipe everything.
Bottom one is old, probably won't work. Odin should just fail and not let you flash it. If it did work, it would fail at the bootloader stage and brick your phone anyway.

That's what I was afraid of. I have no idea how updated he kept the device. And since I can only get into stock recovery and download mode I can't learn much about the device. I wish I could just adb in and grab the data partition off of it. Verizon is hounding him to send the device back or they will charge him $500 or something absurd. Which seems extra crazy since he has had that device since it was released. I thought for sure he would own it by now. Verizon has never asked me for a device back.
Have you found any helpful odin stuff out?

I won't be able to see the device until tonight. I will try to see if he is around the device now so he can let me know. His house has terrible reception and no wifi so I am trying to gather everything before the next time I go there.
@BadUsername Do you know if there is a list of odin files anywhere? This sub seems so disorganized imo. I can't find a helpful sticky or anything.

You can still pull nearly everything off the phone with adb from download mode if USB debugging was enabled, you can literally pull every partition and extract what you need.
You can load a very old version of cwm recovery through Odin and flash aroma file manager if you are rooted, if you can get into recovery. Then you can move whatever you want to an external SD card.
Other than that you're likely stuck.

Question Desperately need assistance

Hello everyone, I desperately need assistance because I think I may have soft bricked my work provided SM-A536B/DS.
What I tried to do initially is to install TWRP so I unlocked the bootloader successfully. Then, I saw different posts here on XDA where people have successfully installed cust ROMs so i tried to do that. This is when the problems started...
Right now my phone is bricked, I assume it is a soft brick because I can still get it to download mode. I did some research prior writing here, and everyone is mentioning to flash the stock ROM. That does not work.
Right now, the phone has bootloader unlocked: (Screen1)
It is asking me to lock it, so that means it's already unlocked.
Tried to access TWRP but I cannot since I get this screen when I do vol up + power: (Screen 2)
My phone was bought in Europe. I am not entirely sure whick ROM is the right one. Is there a way to check which is the right one to download? There are multiple ROMs I can download for Europe: (Screen3)
My country is not in the list so i downloaded the 2 generic for Europe. I put my phone in download mode: (Screen4)
However Odin fails everytime, no matter what files I add: (Screen5), (Screen6)
Since TWRP is not working, I locked the bootloader again to see if I could get Samsung bootloader to show up. I think i might have deleted it somehow, because I get the same thing as before when i do vol up + power. And as you can see, the bootloader is not locked: (Screen7)
I am now stuck and screwed, because this is my work phone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is why it's a bad idea to screw with work provided devices. You don't own the phone, and you will be held financially responsible for it if it's damaged or broken.
You're trying to flash the wrong firmware. You have G925F selected; your device is an A536B. The latest firmware for your device is A536BXXU4BVL2. Use Frija to download the latest firmware.
Since this is a work owned device, the only advice I will offer is this: Return the phone to stock with the correct software, re-lock the bootloader, and do not attempt to modify it as it is most likely in violation of your company's technology acceptable use policy.

What version of Odin are you using?
Your bootloader is still unlocked, correct?
If you're unable to reflash the OEM firmware in Odin, I don't think there's anything else that can be done.
To be completely honest with you, I'm not sure trying to help you is worth the effort, because you did something you shouldn't be doing anyway, and any consequences you may face are entirely of your own doing.

While reading this post something popped in my head.
I dont have this phone, but a Xiaomi Mi8.
When I want to adb push or sideload stuff into phone while it is in recovery or download mode, certain usb ports will work and others wont. And there is not a clear error when it's plugged to non-working usb port, just fails in the middle of a transfer with a generic error message.
Maybe totally irrelevant, just wanted to share.
