ON: Galaxy S3 4.4.2 Verizon(d2vzw) -->OK, I know you all may think I didn't read the other debrick threads, your wrong. I made this new thread because i HAVE tried endlessy every method of debrick on this forum and the internet, and no success. I was messing around with safestrap and decided to try and flash a rom called flashingdroid: for some reason. So i did as usual, boot into recovery(safestrap 3.75) and wipe current os and flash the new one. So i wiped my stock rom(after making a backup) and installed/flashed the new one(flashingdroid) and after seemingly a successful flash, i pressed reboot. Then it went downhill. One second after i pressed reboot, the screen flashed quickly, then shutoff, for good. I couldn't boot it or get into recovery or odin or ANYTHING. I tried the microsd method of debricking with minimal success. It will only give me one vibration, then black scree with that method. Nothing else has worked. I know this was a noob mistake somehow, but does anyone know any special tricks or something? Will a good jig maybe work? I have doubt verizon or samsung will accept it back(it was well rooted!). Please anything/anybody help! I really don't want to buy a new phone or jtag it. Thanks!:crying:
You may have read the debrick threads, but what you should have done from the beginning was read and pay attention to which forum you were in. You flashed a ROM for the International version of the S3 onto your Verizon S3. You almost certainly turned your phone into a shiny paper weight. JTAG may be your only hope. If you don't have one, check out mobiletechvideos.com. I'm not familiar enough with safestrap to know if that may have actually saved you since it is not a traditional recovery and I don't know if it touches all the partitions. In the future, research, research, and research, and pay very close attention to exactly what you are flashing onto your phone. For the Verizon S3, you should only flash ROMs from this sub-forum. And when using safestrap, you are restricted to only flashing ROMs with the same build number as what your phone is currently on in a stock condition.
Ok...Thanks

Confused About What's Possible for Modding a Stock Verizon S3
Can someone please steer me in the right direction? I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.4.2 stock. I recently rooted my phone, but I realize I am very limited as to any mods I can make due to the locked bootloader. Am I able to modify my OS in some way at all (Safestrap) to make my phone run better, or am I just too late in going about this? I've read so much on this subject, but the more I read, it seems the more confused I get. I want to be careful not to brick my phone and would love to see some precise directions on what I could do. Thanks a million for any help at all!

Hey, thanks a lot for that! As much as I've read, I've never heard of xposed. I'll research it and see what it takes and what it will do for my phone. If it helps at all, which I'm sure it will, that would be great. Thanks again for your reply!

It's hard to compare this forum with the others. I believe the people here are the most knowledgeable and, like you, very helpful. Funny enough, or not, I posed a related question on another site (initials AC), and it took over 150 views and a week later before anybody offered a reply. Anyway, I can see there is lots of information on this forum about xposed, so now I'll go and learn as much as I can about it. Thanks again for your help!
Btw, here's a link for others like me who are clueless about xposed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2299428

I've been around the web going on nearly 20 years and I'd have to agree some are more helpful than others. I find xda to be a great resource for anything android or windows phone related. And yes I agree some are a lot more helpful than others. The guys and gals still lurking around the VZW S3 forums have been here since the beginning for this phone and even though mine is no longer active I still use it daily, mostly for games but will probably never give it up. It was my first true (I'm comparing it to the HTC thunderbolt) android phone

I seem to have gotten into big trouble - I hope there's a solution. I learned all about Xposed and installed it along with about a dozen modules. Everything was working great, except the torch/flashlight... [I wanted that! ] so, I saw a download for a module on this forum to fix the flashlight... http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-flashlight-fixer-fix-devices-t2867267 . Well, since doing that, I think I realized that I should have left the flashlight alone! When I tried to reboot after adding the module to xposed, I ended up in what i believe is a boot loop. The Samsung screen comes on, and then it gets stuck on the red Verizon screen. I never dreamed that a module installation could cause this; and I guess I figured if it ever happened I could get into recovery mode and restore everthing. Btw, I had done a complete backup of my phone using Titanium on my sd card.
So, here's what I can/can't do now. I can push "down-volume-button" + home + power to get to screen where you can download a cusom OS - then pushing volume-up-button goes to screen that says "Downloading...Do not turn off target!! (Nothing seems to happen from here.) - - - I cannot enter recovery mode by pressing "volume-up" + home + power keys. When I do that I get the big yellow triangle with message - System software not authorized...go to nearest Verizon store. hmmmm.... So, am I hard bricked or soft bricked? Do I have a way out? Thanks very much for any help with this!

Instead of odin, you could try using samasung kies 3 and use its emergencey firmware recovery tool which dl's and intalls the correct, latest firmware on your device.
What you do:
Install kies 3 on your computer.
Boot to odin mode on your phone.
Click on tools in kies.
Select emergency firmware recovery option.
Follow on screen directions.
Hope I helped!

Shapes Blue & Root Wizard,
Thanks much for your replies. Is it possible for me, having had 4.4.3 on phone, to go to 4.3 instead of 4.4.2? Seems some people think that's an advantage, but I'm not sure. If I did do that, could I still run xposed?
Btw, RW, I tried using your idea, but when I was attempting to do the emergency Firmware Recovery, it asked for a computer code...??? So, that method doesn't seem to be a good route for me, but thanks for the tip!
You guys don't know how happy I am to have you come to the rescue! I've been using an old iPhone 4 for calls, etc.... during the day which I don't like at all! I'll be real glad to get back to AndroidLand. Thanks again!!!

I'm 100% sure the last update on the VZW S3 was 4.4.2 NE1. As long as you can root the phone you should be able to run xposed without an issue
And no you cannot downgrade to anything other than what your currently on

Believe-it-or-not, I still haven't been able to get my s3 back up & running. When I open Odin3 v 3.09 and try to flash the firmware 1534VRUDNE1 . . . . .tar.md5 , it doesn't successfully load to the s3. I've attached a screenshot showing the Odin screen. It show "All threads completed. (succeed 0 failed 1) - btw, when I click on the firmware file within Odin, nothing appears in the box to the right of the AP field; is that correct?
Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

from my understanding, you can still root with the Chainfire, battery pull method as long as you do the OTA or stock Loly update first.

Root and Lollipop are working fine on many devices. Also your question is pretty much meaningless without a model number. Each carrier's phone is different.

AT&T models have a locked bootloader. That's an entirely different issue.
I recently purchased the Metropcs version of this device. The Google, Metro and Samsung apps constantly want to update after a reboot although I've updated them several times. Other apps I've installed and setup to my preferences reset as if I just installed them. I've factory reset and also reinstalled via Smart Switch using PC. Still the same issues persist. I've been unable to enjoy my device. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, where can I find the latest Odin flashable firmware ending in APK6. None of the suggested links/sites in this forum have it. Thank you.

You have a Nandroid problem brother. Go to sammobile.com and look up your model, SM-J700T1 (you can also flash the SM-J700T firmware the devices are identical) and download the APK6 firmware update. You can find a download for Odin here at xda. Now, before you flash anything at anytime ever, make sure you have USB debugging and OEM unlock ticked in developer options or you're screwed. After you download the zip extract it with 7z or Winrar on your computer and put the file in the AP slot in Odin. Once it confirms the md5 go to options (the second tab) in Odin and click Nandroid erase all, bootloader update and factory reset time. Make sure auto reboot is NOT clicked. Flash your phone, once finished unplug your phone and drop the battery for about thirty seconds. Power your phone on holding the recovery buttons so the update can erase your system, data and files and install it's system. You should see this screen twice. Once recovery runs twice you're good to go bro. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you so much for the reply. Believe me I searched for the answers using the Xda Google Advanced search as I've been around the forum for a minute and understand the dangers of being flamed. If there is a Xda link to the latest firmware for Metropcs please link me to it. At this moment I'm downloading the SM-J700T firmware. I never could find a straight answer as if it was compatible with Metropcs. As far as USB debugging, OEM unlock and unknown sources, I enable those on any phone/rom. Anyway, as soon as the download is finished I will follow your instructions and get back to you. Btw, are you using Titanium Backup and have you had good results restoring backups?
Yeah I only use and trust TB! Works great most of the time, I've only had a few issues with restoring data. That could be related to switching ROMS though. I haven't seen any APK6 firmware downloads on xda yet, unfortunately. I trust sammobile though, I've never had a problem with their firmwares.

Hi OP, not sure if this will still help or not but last night I downloaded the APK6 software from this site:
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=B165AF8AC6E611E69215FA163EE8F90B
Once downloaded, all I did is flash it in Odin via AP. I did not delete any data, and just let Odin reset the phone after it was done. Not only did it get me back to stock completely, but I also am now able to check for official updates. I am on Metro PCS as well, and it works great so far. Hopefully this helps, and hopefully you don't have just a bad lemon. All the best of luck to you.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that once I flashed ROM, I did have to factory reset due to apps that were on the custom ROM I flashed from not being present in the official build. After that, everything was golden.

I've never seen anything like this man. I've had to delete all data and system before but once Odin ran nandroid I didn't have any problems. Good luck bro.
Hey guys, just an update. I have not returned the phone, but this is what's going on. I believe Google Play Services is the culprit. I can't get it to be stable. I've tried uninstalling updates and installing a update via a downloaded apk, wiping chache and data..all to no avail. But I discovered multiple copies of various files duplicated over and over. I was wondering why my nandroid backup was over 9 GB. I want to try to flash a custom rom to see if it remedies the issue. I see that there are only 2 in this particular forum and they both seem to have issues. Are there any others that are compatible from the other variants. Again I've searched, but there seems to be no straight answers. Here a screenshot of what I found in data/app. These files are multiple copies of Google Play Services. There were many more copies of maps and other apps.

When you say flashing, fhalsing what exactly got you the bootloop? Was it flashing the engineering Boot.img through Odin or the fix S7 zip through Flashfire... Or something else?
I don't have a Cricket branded S7, but always offering to help you research.

Only a few things I can think to ask:
1) You are using the Odin version by PrinceComsy... not the original version of Odin?
2) When you download the engineering boot image, you're downloading it for your phone model (S7 for S7, S7 Edge for the S7 Edge)? Maybe you accidentally downloaded the wrong one?
3) When uploading the boot image through Odin, the boot image TAR file is in the AP slot of Odin?
4) Last thing I can think is easy, is the boot image is still a TAR file correct? Its not a ZIP or any other file extension?
Have you tried downloading the image again? I invite you to check out a thread I'm part of if you want another location to download the S7 engineering boot image, that thread located here and the boot image file can be downloaded directly from here

Yes and I tried the original also

Correct s7 for s7
3) When uploading the boot image through Odin, the boot image TAR file is in the AP slot of Odin?
Yes
4) Last thing I can think is easy, is the boot image is still a TAR file correct? Its not a ZIP or any other file extension?
I made sure it was still a tar file.

You're welcome, just trying to figure it out. Though I see this is a common thing, so I wonder what is different with the Cricket version?
And you're rooting the Nougat version of the phone? This seems to be a topic floating around with no one explaining it. I've tried looking to see if maybe the processor might be somehow a "reduced" version of the 820 compared to the others... but everything makes it look like it should work.
Only other thing I would say is go back through all the steps, and make sure you're not accidentally skipping one. I did that a bunch of times when I first started off. I ended up printing off instructions and making note edits. Took me a few different sets of instructions until I found a formula that worked for my G930P

I'm sorry no we haven't received the update yet I'm still on 6.0.1. Do you mean like mixing up the steps and finding which worked with your phone?

Oh I'll have to go back and do some rereading then, because I thought I saw some websites saying that phone was already on Nougat. If you're still on MM this should be easier I would think... hmmm
For me, it took me about 4 or 5 different threads of talking about how they rooted their Sprint S7 phone, for me to find the right instructions for myself to root my phone. But I know along the way I would miss a step, then my phone wouldn't boot or bootloop like yours. That's why I went back and printed out instructions and checked off to make sure I didn't skip anything. After awhile I could wrap my head around it.
Just saying we are all human, so it's easy to skip a step. Though it doesn't seem like you're the only one having this problem. But if all the branded US phones are pretty much rooted one way or another, I don't see why yours would be any different.

Your probably right I'll try those steps again and see if anything changes. The only model I see that's close to g930az would be the at&t which is g930a. I know I got lucky with the last attempt to try with it in soft brick. I just don't want to try to many and it be completely screwed. Because on cricket you have to buy all of you phones up front well at least I had to with mine. I'll try it again and let you know if it worked or I have a paper weight haha. Thanks again

With following the steps you are and what you have happening, you should be OK with being able Odin back to factory firmware.
Yeah Cricket is kind of the double edge sword, you have to buy the phone up front, but they have CHEAP prices for good service. I had them when I first moved to Arizona and would have kept them, if I didn't travel so much.
Report back if anything changes.

Do you have the stock firmware and Odin? Flash that will get you back to stock and functional. Does take awhile to flash the full imagine, but can pretty much fix any software brick issues.

By default the phones are locked so someone can't steal your phone and Reimage it. If you boot your phone up after trying to flash do you get an FPR or some sort of error like that?

I would recommend going to sammobile or updato to get the firmware for your phone. Sounds like you have the wrong model. If you need help I can help in an hour or so when I get home.

Hello everyone, I desperately need assistance because I think I may have soft bricked my work provided SM-A536B/DS.
What I tried to do initially is to install TWRP so I unlocked the bootloader successfully. Then, I saw different posts here on XDA where people have successfully installed cust ROMs so i tried to do that. This is when the problems started...
Right now my phone is bricked, I assume it is a soft brick because I can still get it to download mode. I did some research prior writing here, and everyone is mentioning to flash the stock ROM. That does not work.
Right now, the phone has bootloader unlocked: (Screen1)
It is asking me to lock it, so that means it's already unlocked.
Tried to access TWRP but I cannot since I get this screen when I do vol up + power: (Screen 2)
My phone was bought in Europe. I am not entirely sure whick ROM is the right one. Is there a way to check which is the right one to download? There are multiple ROMs I can download for Europe: (Screen3)
My country is not in the list so i downloaded the 2 generic for Europe. I put my phone in download mode: (Screen4)
However Odin fails everytime, no matter what files I add: (Screen5), (Screen6)
Since TWRP is not working, I locked the bootloader again to see if I could get Samsung bootloader to show up. I think i might have deleted it somehow, because I get the same thing as before when i do vol up + power. And as you can see, the bootloader is not locked: (Screen7)
I am now stuck and screwed, because this is my work phone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is why it's a bad idea to screw with work provided devices. You don't own the phone, and you will be held financially responsible for it if it's damaged or broken.
You're trying to flash the wrong firmware. You have G925F selected; your device is an A536B. The latest firmware for your device is A536BXXU4BVL2. Use Frija to download the latest firmware.
Since this is a work owned device, the only advice I will offer is this: Return the phone to stock with the correct software, re-lock the bootloader, and do not attempt to modify it as it is most likely in violation of your company's technology acceptable use policy.

Yes, this is what I am trying to do, to return to stock ROM. I downloaded A536BXXU4BVL2 for my phone, not G925F (this is what Odin uses as an example).

What version of Odin are you using?
Your bootloader is still unlocked, correct?
If you're unable to reflash the OEM firmware in Odin, I don't think there's anything else that can be done.
To be completely honest with you, I'm not sure trying to help you is worth the effort, because you did something you shouldn't be doing anyway, and any consequences you may face are entirely of your own doing.

I haven't touched any of the options, everything is on default.
While reading this post something popped in my head.
I dont have this phone, but a Xiaomi Mi8.
When I want to adb push or sideload stuff into phone while it is in recovery or download mode, certain usb ports will work and others wont. And there is not a clear error when it's plugged to non-working usb port, just fails in the middle of a transfer with a generic error message.
Maybe totally irrelevant, just wanted to share.
