Didn't receive any updates on honor 8 in The US.. The company lied. Looks like I'll be buying a new phone from a reliable Company.
I just got mine yesterday. FRD-L04 US.
Just be patient, they said mid february.
The updates roll out in batches. I came from nexus devices. Be patient. All manufacturers do this that way if there is a bug, they can shut it down before all phones are screwed...Like Apple iOS updates screw up alot of phones and tablets.

Keep an eye on the receivers' log: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XULbGwxpO0s_RH9EzbvWjLP48MNCz7vkolbT0TiMf7s/edit#gid=0
It's obviously happening right now, but it will take a while to roll out to everyone.
Firmware App
Has anyone tried using the Firmware App? I'm just curious cuz it has the 360 build. I was thinking of trying it out.
Mine keeps bugging me to update when I don't want to.
No phone manufacturer releases the update to every unit simultaneously. That would be killer on their servers, plus if something went wrong there would be no time to correct. Also, the official announcement said the rollout would start 2/11, not everyone would get it 2/11. So no one lied, and switching to another phone maker wouldn't change anything--you still might not get updates the first day. Like you, I am eager to get the update, but it's also important to keep in mind the facts. It helps to limit the frustration.
I updated to Nougat and it sucks. Battery life sucked, ROG doesn't work, can't lock Messenger app with fingerprint...
I rolled back to MM and now i can have my 6hours+ of SoT.
If you wanna take my advice and bear with the ugly notifications menu, do not update to Nougat.

Right now its kind of buggy,
Maybe i'll revert back MM but nougat UI is beautiful..oh..man.
I agree, the nougat build is really nice! Really liking the stock sms look and notifications. I updated using the Firmware App. Battery seems to suffer a bit but I'll stay on it until the final build is released

Don't know but I've 7hr+ SOT on Nougat. Can't remember any phone with that high SOT. Also Nougat became more stock-ish with EMUI 5.

Battery life depends on user's habits.
I personnaly have 3 emails to sync, Messenger, WhatsApp, Pushbullet and other apps that need to sync. My data(4g) is always on. I use Spotify for 1 to 2 hours a day.
All of this takes some juice but for some reason I can get past the 5 hours of SoT on MM without any problems.
On a sidenote, I think that EMUI5 functionality to kill apps when screen is locked is kind of broken.
(Sorry for the off-topic, but these are things that people need to know before upgrading)

I think you are just impatient. The new EMUI 5 has the smart control built in, and it will take a while to learn to optimize your system based on your use habit. My battery life with screen on was initially 4 hours, but after a night of optimization going on in the background and a couple of reboots following a full charge with the screen turned off for the system to optimize battery performance, my SoT goes to 7+ hours which is much better than EMUI 4. It knows what to close whenever necessary based on my usage history.
Yeah, the ROG is not working, but I don't need it anymore. From my reading, the customizable dpi feature has been available on the Android 7.1.1 based ROM. See here (in Chinese): http://club.huawei.com/thread-11707731-1-1.html
I think it will be available for future EMUI updates.
There is only one thing I haven't figured out is how to show the Huawei Health icon by default in the notification area. If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks.
For what it's worth... to the people having battery issues: I have been running B360 for two full days and day 2 (today) is/was exponentially better battery-wise than day 1. I was MAD at the end of day 1, I'm rather impressed by the end of day 2.

FIRST: This is my own opinion. You may disagree with it!
My Reasons:
I have Huawei P9. Looking at their Update policy I am not happy with it. P8 is not going to get a Nougat update which is SHAME! Not even 2 years of OS support... What a joke. This means My P9 most likely will not updated to a newer version after Nougat... Which means I will never again pay so much money for something that won't get at least 2 new OS updates (whole version).
Next: Nougat update. It's a complete JOKE. What's new? Split screen, App drawer (lol what innovation here!), couple redesign small things... Take a look at Samsung. They are actually adding new stuff... New apps that are useful: Password manager which makes a bigger use of the fingerprint scanner. Note app. New other stuff. And to be honest their Skin looks so much better. Colors are better. Did you see the ugly Black and Dark Blue colors on the Quick toggles on Huawei Nougat? Damn the guy who came with this idea should be fired as soon as possible! No Double tap to wake up, no raise to wake up... But hey they have Knuckle gestures.. Never used them? What a sick person will knock on his phone.. So dumb... Everytime I want to check my screen I have to look for the fingerprint or power button, chick with case makes a little harder to press everytime the power button, in the dark it's super annoying when you mistake it with Volume down... It's just annoying. Give me something easier. Wave to wake up, raise, double tap... Give me all of them and let me choose...
Next: Icons with app drawer are ridiculously BIG! I guess Huawei designers know nothing about aesthetics or don't care...
Next: Notes app doesn't sync with Gmail. I had iPhone and Samsung phones in the past. I really like Stock apps for notes, they are Free, no ads and easy to use.. And they sync with a Google account... This is not the case here.. There is just half baked app, made for 10 minutes while most likely the dude what on the WC...
So many stock Bloat but no Reminders app... Again! Did you try to set simple reminder without using Google Now? I did.. You need to go to Calendar, make Event, turn 100 option some ON, some OFF... Just give me a simple App like on iOS to make a Reminder in 10 secs.. Is this so hard? I guess it's so much easier than making 10 apps that no one is using...
Next: Nothing about Daydream... I guess it won't work with P9...
Next: Again Updates: Sammy released 4 BETA updates, iOS releases many Betas to make sure everything is OK when the final is released to the public.. Huawei still on 1st beta!!!! And most likely this will be the last... We will get Official release full of bugs and will have to wait months for a fix! Thank you Huawei!!!
Next: Huawei is one of the last OEMs that still hasn't uploaded their Stock apps on the Play Store. And we need to wait Months if there is a problem with some of the stock apps! Did you use the stock Huawei keyboard? Did you see how outdated it is? Doesn't have even all the emojis... Not talking about he look from 2008....
Next: Video recording software. Pixel uses software stabilization too, but it's so much better. Video recording quality is ridiculous for a phone at this price... Again I think someone did the coding while was doing his work on the WC... If Pixel can have a lot better recording with software stabilization why we should settle with suck a Joke?
This is why I won't buy another phone from Huawei. Too much negatives for me. And feeling sorry I didn't get the S7... The metal build was more important for me, but i did a mistake.. Should have taken the Glass.. Obviously other OEMs are doing a lot better job...
P.S: Biggest deal breaker: Updates... !
What's the problem if we're currently using Nougat Public Beta? I don't see any fallback. The official will be rolled out sooner or later.

Hi Martin, thanks for sharing your opinion, which you're very much entitled to of course.
I'm not too worried about the update. It'll come. It's my experience that almost ALL OEMs are slow at updating to the latest version (Samsung, LG, Oneplus). And when the update comes it's either full of bugs (Oneplus) or makes your phone come to a screeching halt (Samsung).
Notes app... I haven't found anything better than Google Keep for that and it syncs across my devices. Reminders I usually set via the calendar which isn't really an issue for me, but I'm sure there are reminders apps in the Playstore.
Granted, Huawei does have quite a bit of bloat on it, BUT... It doesn't seem to have an impact on either battery life or speed of the phone for me. For me my P9 is my first phone which even after a good 5 months usage is still just as swift and fluid as the first day I got it. And everything just works.

I am not saying it's a bad phone. It's a great phone, but the support is kinda poor. I am not rushing for the Nougat. I don't mind waiting if they will release a really stable version. Not happy that they are on the 1st beta and maybe this will be last and while most problems will be fixed, while they fix them most likely there will be a new one. And there is not a big improvement in Nougat. They could expand some things, make them better. It most of the time color change...
Don't mind the bloat too, I put all the stuff in a folder and forget they exist.
As I said the phone is great, but they could work a little better on the software.

Here in Bulgaria - Beta 1. In the official beta thread no reports for another update, but you got 3.. Strange.
Well the P8 won't be updated due to the same reasons as the Xperia Z3 from Sony. The Kirin used in the sP8 simply is not compatible with Vulkan and therefore Googles Certification Process for Android 7. As this does not happen regularly, you should be able to see updates for your P9 for at least 2 years i guess.

Are you invited for beta test? If not, what is the cust for bulgaria?
Why more betas than stable?
Better is to modify 6.0 and make a backup, if 7.0 got bugs in first global releases, then u can go back.
Why we need the same like other manufacture? Its enough now.
For every stuff have their pros / cons no one the best just find the one that fit for you, Huawei do good progress (not the best) and I dint see any new in software in other phone all are same / running on native Android ,you can go for non OEM firmware phone if need more software modification , but Huawei phone I think thay made for standard / daily driver like Apple...
Sounds like the op should have gone to Samsung, you are basically criticising the huawei because its not a samsung.....
I came from samsung and most of the things you point out as negatives are positives to me.
Placement of fingerprint scanner is perfect, touchwiz is awful and filled to the brim with bloat and ugly icons.
You complain about updates, just buy a samsung and see how long before you end up rooting it just so you can get an update or remove bloatware.

Some of these points are valid, however, the software is as it is because Huawei is a Chinese brand. Huawei is huge in china, and in china, this software is what sells. And if you don't like the stock apps, just download new ones. If you don't like the launcher, download a new one. That is the beauty of android. There are points of EMUI that I don't like either, but most of them I was able to fix by downloading apps and customizing what I could in the settings.
Has somebody forced you to buy the Huawei? If you have bought the phone without acquiring some information before is your fault.
You knew about the update, the software and the pro a d cons, why are you complaining?
If you thought that the samsung was better than the Huawei why you bought it? Take a s7 edge and be happy.
You could install a Rom anyway

I don't get people like you... Why don't you keep your pointless opinion for yourself. What, do only people with positive experience should write here? I am sharing my experience with this phone. And hope it will help to people who are thinking about getting this phone, thinking it's a great deal and great phone... I don't want people the give their money like me for something that's not worth it... In most European countries after you buy a phone and open the box, you can't give it back or exchange for another brand.
And it's Shipment, not SOLD... Still it's a great phone, for most people who are not too much into phones or know what other phones can do or how often they are updated, or don't care about updates they would be very happy with this phone. I am happy most of the time while using it. Small things are ruing my usage and this is the problem, they are small, fixable but no one is fixing them.

Hi there. When I bought the phone I had the average of 6 hours of display. When I updated to Nougat the average went down to 4 hours and a half. In the last three days I'm doing at least 3 hours. What is happening to my phone?
Damn my honor 8 last about 5 or 6 hours in the nougat update
Try to update to the latest noughat via the FF and dload method
This should help you fix the battery drain
Or try to roll back to MM to see if the battery goes back to normal
That would be my advice
Maybe you should factory restore your honor 8
Now with the factory reset I'm up to the usual 4/ 4 and a half hours, but still far from the 6/7 hours of mm
Send us screen shots of your usage charts so we can help you.
Here it is
Actually I'm at 3h with 26% left
I noticed that the battery drop while using the phone is the same as on MM, but in stand by it goes down really fast.
You should try update your phone to the latest noughat

The B381 has the best battery life of all noughat versions
So yes, I do say
If you dont like it on noughat and dont want to update live with it
Or roll back to MM
If the update comes I will gladly install it, but I'm still waiting. Atm I did a calibration and farmer a day with 3 h of display I'm at the 27%
Best battery life you can get on MM.
But I recommend you to turn off Searching for Wifi and BT. You can do it long tap on GPS location, in the right corner 3 dots -> Search settings (or something like that) and turn off Search for Wifi and BT. I also disabled Link+ and Wi+Fi+.

But I think for manuall install first
Couse since yesterday FF is showing
new update B387 for the L09
And what update will be for your model I dont know
But there will be an update soon as it looks like
And one contact person from Huawei said also that there will be somethings happening regarding the xda - huawei partnership till end of May or early June
So definatly some things going to happen in the next few weeks
I wouldn't type these kind of messages, we can expect that Huawei will release some more updates, but it's not 100% confirmed. Half of users of H8 still doesn't receive update to Android 7... It's quite sad.
I'm just sharing the info I got from svetius
He is the one to be contacted for any questions about Huawei and XDA partnership
So I contacted him last week
And he said that he contacted his Huawei contact wich said to him that some thing are on track to happen end May or early June
So it is an info straight from Huawei given to XDA
So I wanted to share the info
Many of us are waiting for things to happen

If you need that type of info, well... My crystal ball says to me- no updates for Honor 8 users... [emoji23]
First of all who said that my info is or must be official.. Second.. it is from Huawei to XDA..regarding the partnership..and it is official said ( from Huawei contact person ) to that one responsible in XDA regarding the whole partnership
So I want as many as possible on xda users to know it.. You will not get it on the news or Huawei online page .. you will be getting info this way.. to XDA community from Huawei contact persons .. And the last thing would be.. you say official.. so what does that mean for you.. the complete 100% thing wich will happen? No, evan official is to be taken with a pinch of salt.. aaand your cristal ball is not working correctly.. ?
no offense dude, but this post you wrote is totally piece of ****.
There is thousands users who still doesn't recieve update to Android 7 and you are spreading the info about that Huawei plans something that wouldn't be ever tell?
Please STOP it! It's not official.
I bought the Honor 8 (US version) as a holdover as my older Nexus5 was dying. I managed to get it from NewEgg when it was on sale for $239US with the included Honor accessory box, so I can't complain about the price, and it is the fastest phone I have ever had. I grew to hate it at first, but have found workarounds for most of the problems I had with it. I have no real interest in rooting or modding at this point, like Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon, "I'm too old for this ****".
I'm currently on the stock shipping software:
FRD-L04
EMUI 4.1
Android 6.0, 10/1/16
FRD-L04C567B162
And updater shows that the following is available: (I've shut off the notifications for this)
FRD-L04C567B360
I have decided that I can live with the stupid bugs and my primary concern is battery life, which seems to be freaking amazing on this stock build. In lurking on these forums, I have heard nothing but reports of horrible battery life after upgrading to Nougat (compared to stock). Are there any newer stock builds that have good battery life without endless tweaking or modding? Or should I just stay where I am until my next phone?
Thanks for your opinions...
<thread**** with Chuck Norris memes>
Well, I have the honor 8 with Android Nougat and the battery life is good for me. I have about 5 hrs screen with wifi all day. I think the most important thing Is not to worry about running out of battery power when you are out of home and this phone complies with that
Enviado desde mi FRD-AL00 mediante Tapatalk
I wasn't on Marshmallow for long before I upgraded to Nougat but I haven't seen any noticeable difference between the two. I keep location, wifi, data, and bluetooth on 24/7 and I go a full day on a charge. I'm not on the phone constantly but I do use it throughout the day. I have two high usage apps on the phone, an Allstate driving app and the Samsung Gear S3 app and I still get an entire day.
Marshmallow is the best in battery life. However, B385 is so close to marshmallow when it comes to battery life and I have no complaints.
I get around 5h of heavy use (games, youtube, browsing...etc) all apps in the background, wifi and bt almost all the day on.
Add to it battery standby is pretty good
Actually when u first update u will experience bad battery life for the first 2 days or so. But the phone does it's own thing and fixes the battery life. When I bricked my phone while trying to root I decided to fix it by rolling back to marshmallow to solve my issue. So that's what I did and I was back on the first build which the phone shipped with. Since I didn't have a phone for abt 2 days since my phone was bricked I started installing apps and chatting on Snapchat and then I realized I'll have to factory reset after updating to Nougat. I held back for a day or so but I really missed the stock Launcher on EMUI 5 so I ended up updating but I didn't factory reset my phone. After that I received the B385 update and I updated to that as well without wiping. I'm using phone without wiping from EMUI 4 for the past 4 months and I've had great battery life. I was on vacation a month back and the phone worked flawlessly.
So it's fine update ur phone. Don't bother wiping it as well but be prepared for bad battery life for the first 2-3 says till ur device figures things out. After that it will be just as reliable as before in the battery life front.
Note: I'm not rooted. I have a locked bootloader and full stock software.

EMUI 4.1 is the best battery optimised where the emui 5.0 don't.
compared to 5.0 ,the marshmellow (emui 4.1 ) is the best.
Thanks for the opinions.
So assuming I were to go ahead, is the correct procedure for the FRD-L04 to accept the OTA to B360, then use the dload method to go to B385 (latest one I can find for FRD-L04)?

You can just update safely with OTA. EMUI 5.0 is not that bad either. There are lot of UI improvements and batter RAM management, shortcut tiles, batter notification management. Battery may be concern for many but there is not much difference, at least not more than 30 minutes for sure. I am on EMUI 5.0 on another phone but still manage to get 6+ hours SOT easily on an average and can stretch upto 9-10 hours if want to. Been on EMUI 5.0 on that phone since February.
it is so frustrating that they release phones so often with no chance to really refines them. then there is google that puts out versions of android before developers get a chance to master or migrate fully to the latter.
i heard the new storage security in android 11 can cause hiccups like slow loading and crashes due to the new storage activity due to the new security rules.
should i stay on android 10 just like so many stayed on android 4.x.x for so long to keep compatibility
Just look at xda's complaint on scooped storage

I did and as I said I've never had any issues with an update in 11 years. I'm sure Sammy will have it figured out before they release it. All my phones have been rooted until the Note 7, and you take more chance flashing a rom written by some dev than an update from a major player.

But samsung does not work or develop the third party apps or what not that you install on your phone. Any unsupported app you use will likely be crippled(heard that loading times can be 100× longer to start the app) and any dev too aggravated to to fix it may stop supporting his or her project. Also most devs have not even cought up to android 10. Yea i hope to many update and google learns their error in this mess

If it does happen and I seriously doubt it, I'll just reflash with odin and restore my backup. My glass is half full, not half empty. I have friends on other forums running 11 beta on Pixels with no issues.
Am I in a pixel or oneplus thread? Note 20 ultra users most likely get Android 11 before March 2021 and chances are that any kinks should be ironed out by then. I don't understand why this conversation needs to happen this early.
Edit: https://www.phonearena.com/news/sam...-android-11-update-one-ui-3-t-mobile_id127042
Guess I stand corrected! One Ui 3.0 AKA Android 11 is already in Beta in South Korea and coming to T-mobile according to this article.

I will absolutely update as soon as its available. I always sign up for the beta each year to get the update ASAP. Most people complain that Samsung doesn't update fast enough. Haven't heard anyone complain yet that they update TOO fast, LOL.
These concerns happen every year, and they always end up being a non-issue.
As far as app compatibility issues, that's the developers' issues. They are advised long in advance what they need to do to remain compatible with the current OS.

Yup! Sammy has stepped up their update game the last few years. I think last year they were pushing the official Android 10 before the end of the year to some devices. I think, but I could be wrong. I know it was earlier than the previous years.

Guess you just lucked out. But i try not to be the one stuck with a dodgy os. When they updated to android 5 no phone would run my fave application and then the android 5 memory leak. Not to mention other things os updates can bring untill they fix them. And that is googles fault not the phone maker

LOL. I don't think I lucked out. I think issues with OS updates are far less common than you think. I'd say you are definitely in the minority.
I've been on Android since the original Moto Droid. I've had almost every Moto, LG, Samsung, Nexus, and Pixel. I've been through beta OS updates, official updates, side loaded updates, unofficial ported updates, you name it.
You're going back 5 YEARS and saying because an update broke your favorite application, that Google/Samsung updates too often? Is every update perfect? No, but they certainly don't break everything the way you think they do.
~
Android updates on Samsung phones are always an anti-climax. Samsung tend to have implemented all the best features that a new Android update brings already. What you end up with is a range of bugs or security features that break your apps. I will always go for the update that's offered but I am not excited about it or bothered if there's a delay in any roll outs.

No you are absolutely right. I'm out in Canada and if memory serves me right we got Android 10 at the beginning of January a month or so after the US. It was the years prior that the OS update came out with the S series release. And to your point Samsung has stepped up their game, tremendously. It's right after the Pixels and Oneplus which is not too shabby. And getting faster to boot. No complaints here. :good:

Yeah, Note10+ got Android 10 in December I believe. Definitely was super fast compared to Note9 getting Android 9 (February/March).

So true. I read one of the big changes with Android was bubble-like messaging, much like FB Messenger. Uh... I've had that in Samsung for a couple years now I think? My text app always pops up in a bubble instead of the notifications panel.

Thats what I was thinking, but couldn't remember 100%. Unless there's somd major issues, it looks like we're on the same timeline for Android 11, since the beta is already out for the international S20 series. US Note 20 won't be too far behind.

Spot on. What a wrenched mess.
My 10+ is still running well on Pie.
Google is insane to emulate Apple.
I don't think Google will fix it, another Vista.
Probably stay on Pie for the life of this phone and hope Google regains their sphincter control with 12 or 13...

I saw that too, wtf? Messenger does that all the time with Pie.
Lol, half of the time I disable it because it's a nuisance.
I've backed up all my Playstore apps with APK Export because of them either being taken down in Playstore or turned into a bloody mess to adapt to 10/11.
I also have a couple trusted apps the use overlays, Q would render them useless or a pain to use.
I remember the horror of Vista and Lollipop... Pie is running very well, WYSIWYG
The most I'll do for now is an occasional reload of Pie if needed. All my data including the all apks/system updates are stored on my SD card so reloads are much easier. No screwing around with or waiting for Playstore. Any app that allows it's setup to be exported is also saved there.
With over 230 GB of data it saves a lot of time coping it from the laptop too.
I never have a phone without an SD card slot... you know like an Apple.

sorry to say, but update will not help you.
make debloat and restrict all app to work in backgrounds.
examples:
1) do you really need to get notifications as a bots liked your photo in instagram\twitter\fb\tiktok? - block it
2) do you need updates from your bank every 5 min? - block it
3) do you really need Chrome browser to update page in background? - block it
4) you calc\gallery\tools need access to internet? no way - block it
just imagine....hundreds of preinstalled apps in your phone wakes up you modem and get access to internet every 5 seconds and waste your battery. Until you understand how your phone work -- every phone will be bad for your and bad battery life.

ps: make a test for yourself. remember battery level from 10pm till 7am as you usually use....them disable wifi\data for the same time = you will be surprised.___________________________________________________

The S22U is my only phone with terrible battery. I don't use tiktok or many other social apps, mainly browsing and texting. I barely get 3h SOT on it, and I've wiped it many times. Maybe I just have a bad unit, but I think it's just the chip. Can't wait for the 8gen2.

Yep. Samsung have proven they can't make efficient chips time and time again
I just received my October update yesterday the 5th.
