Ambient Display edit feature settings - turn touchscreen off - General Questions and Answers

Could anyone help me solving this annoying useless bothering "issue" that activates the touchscreen whenever i use ambient sisplay ? What i mean is that, unlike before ( marshmallow i guess ), when you're using ambient display and a notification pops up or if you take out your phone out of your pocket, if you unavoidable touch the screen, it directs you into the lock screen. I want to disable this thing just like it used to be before. Unfortunately i have almost no start point. Afaik i have to edit some apks, i took a look into firmware-res.apk into values folder for some strings but i couldn't find anything related to ambient display which seems to be attached to doze. If anyone can help by any mean i would be very pleased. Thanks.

[SOLVED] How to force HD2 to backlit buttons...

...when the screen is on? It's quite annoying to search the keys in dark.
i absolutely agree..........m also searching for such tweak.
intresting tweak !....i'm hope someone could solve !
what would be even better is to use the ambient sensor to turn on the backlight whenever the phone is picked up (using the accelerometer)
Yes this annoys me too is really hard to see the keys in the dark more so when the screen is lit up!

It's a good idea, but a little complicated...
Anything using motion just wouldn't be the best, since a lot of people put unit into a pocket, bag etc. Which is means the HD2 is usually moving as a result of walking etc. You might get away with sensing VERTICAL movement, but that is assuming the accelerometer can detect VERTICAL movement and it potentialy could be triggerd by normal movement in a pocket, bag etc. as well.
You might be able to use the proximity sensor with the accelerometer to do this. It wouldn't be perfect, but may work enough for most.
The simplest thing would be to enable the backlight to automaticaly stay 'on' when the device is activated (I don't need light to do this). Add to this a time feature that says only activate if after 6:00pm and before 6:00am. This means it wouldn't activate during daylight, unless you told it too. You would also need to add the feature to 'always' activate as some like to keep it simple or routinely visit dark places.
perhaps get it to light up when input is detected on the capacitive touch screen. that way it wouldn't get activated in a pocket or case. haven't a clue how to implement it but hey.
I really don't see an issue with wanting the keys lit when the screen's on. That sounds like a perfect solution to me. I think using sensors is overkill.
Interested in this tweak too...
Or use (light + proximity) sensor.
so no ideas then huh? i will have a root around through the registry settings to see if there is anything we can use for this..
i will have a root around the registry see if there is anything we can use
waaaaaaay too many "over complicated" solutions to this prob in this thread regarding using sensors etc ... you basically just need to stop the lights from sleeping while the phone is unlocked and on ! so if the screen back light is on the buttons should be too !!!!!!!!
yea thats what i was going to look for...
i.e. if screen is on.. turn the buttons on!!!
bump ! bump bump !
hahahah i was about to do the same
bump! it's a must !
bump from me too!
I am sure this could be done by a small registry change...but the mystery is as to which registry entry to look at!
Found a way to do this programmetically, I'll make a small test app for this tonight. Check back in like 8-9 hours, my boss won't like it if I do it during work time

Yep. Same thing. I wanted to see the difference, but nothing happens with Ambient Display. I even watched several YouTube videos thinking I was looking for something that it doesn't do, but it doesn't do anything. Tested it with app notifications, texts, reminders, etc. The screen stays off 100%. I wonder how you get it working.....
I got it to work. I did some Googling, and it seems to be triggered by the "press power button to end calls.". I don't know why, but toggling that makes it work for me. You also need at least "swipe" enable for a lock screen. No lock screen means no Ambient Display. The option to toggle the power button is under settings -> accessibility. I have mine set to off, so I just toggled it on, and then back off, turned the screen off, called the phone from another phone, and after the miss call, Ambient Display worked, so I hope it works for all notifications. Haven't had any yet, but if things change I'll post back.
I'll definitely give this a go :good:
I like it better than Moto Display. Here is what I see that is different. Ambient Display doesn't wake when the phone moves, and it doesn't wake by the sensor. What happens is when you get a text, missed call, notification, etc the screen will show the time, and the notifications twice. Meaning if you get a text the Ambient Display comes on two seconds later, and then again five seconds after that. That's it. Moto Display will show you the same info only if you move the phone. It's a toss up, and really depends on what you like. I like Ambient Display since I hate that Moto Display always shows by the slightest move of the phone. Bump the table it comes on. I'd rather have the notice right when I get it, and glance at the screen to see what it is without waking the phone than having to move it to see.

I'm very sorry for posting a sort of off topic post, but nowhere can I find a definitive answer until I read your post (though there are a lot of forums to go through still... It's daunting).
So, moto display as a default the screen comes on by default when you move the phone, regardless of whether you have a notification or not? I wanted my next phone to have double tap to wake so I could avoid the power button most of the time. This appears to accomplish the same end goal.
In comparison, ambient display appears to be more to what the description of moto display leads... It comes on when you have a notification (only). This would lead to pressing the power button often, no?

Correct. With Moto Display you don't really need the power button at all. Just move the phone, and the display comes one to show the time, or time and notifications if there are any. If you touch the screen you can simply unlock the screen, or go into a notification. With Ambient Display if you don't catch the screen coming on when you get a notification you need to press the power button since moving the phone won't light up the screen like Moto Display does.

I just wiped my phone again, and the first setting I set was the ambient display. Now is working! But it sure have bugs to not work before...
BTW: I just figure out that my Moto g 3 (XT1543) is 1 GB RAM only, not 2, like I saw specs on google... I'm really frustrated =(
Hi, if you Cm13 .. then to make Ambient display working .. you must not have any 3rd party LOCKSCREEN except the default..
i mean no other things like Slidejoy, lockscreens ..etc
if they are present, then ambient display will not work !!
try if your ambient display is working by going into Guestmode with ambient ON , then you will get idea

DISPLAY ISSUE (PLEASE HELP)

Am facing this from one ui2.5 wherever i turn off aod and unlock the phone display goes to the Yellow but if aod is on then everything is fine no problem but i need to turn off AOD for better battery please help me guys
I did factory and hard factory reset.
i don't think its a hardware issue am heavy user with aod turn on i can use it whole without any problem no display issue ...
Sounds like bad firmware.
Is blue light filter toggled off? Try toggling it the opposite from where it's set.
AOD should use little battery. Use at minimum manual brightness.
Have you tried the double tap to view AOD setting? Maybe you can tricked it...

If tap on AOD solves it be happy; that uses almost no battery or it should.
You could reflash and still have the same issue.
Eventually Samsung will hopefully patch it.
If it really keeps you awake at nights you could send it in for service.
Maybe someone here has a better idea though.
Can you help me i have wifi and pc both so i can give a try lets see if refreshing the frameware can fix this (and if i reflash am still gonna getting updates right)

Question Hyperactive and misplaced Proximity Sensor

Hey everybody,
from my P6P I was used to being able to navigate my smartphone whilst making a call over the speakers or listening to a voice message over whatsapp.
Now, when doing this, my 7P will again and again shut off the screen because the sensor is triggered. This seens really out of proportion, since it happens far down and only on the left site (i attached an image with the blue trigger zone).
Is this sth you experience as well and can check for me?
Thanks!!
I was also experiencing this annoying issue. It was driving me crazy.
Was able to find a fix though: activate Developers Options and open it. Look for Quick Settings Developers Tiles menu and tap to it. Then tap to Sensors Off to enable it. This will add Sensors Off tile in tiles list in the scroll down top menu of your phone. If you activate (tap on it) it will disable all sensors, proximity sensor included.
The changes will apply immediately so you can do this whilst on phone/video calls and then enable it back after the call. Works like a charm.
Whilst its tempting to leave it disabled all the time, I won't recommend it as it disables all the sensors, for example, automatic screen brightness sensor or auto rotate sensor, so not very convenient.
Yeah, the cut off point is pretty early. I'd recommend using one handed mode to reach for the top of the screen or just trigger speakerphone.

Nice find and it may help some people some of the time. However, would it not be better to just turn on Screen Attention? YMMV

rotate the AOD? + what is sunlight-booster?

heya good day!
i am working on reusing this second hand xperia 5 ii as a car dash computer.
getting pretty close. I've managed to rotate apple music and edit it's scaling to be fit for landscape use.
i also need to try and get the always on display rotated.
but i cant seem to find the package or whatever is responsible for the AOD
in setting's it's called ambient display. but even with those search tag's i couldn't find the process..
does anyone know what the package name is for sony's AOD? or perhaps know how to modify the AOD to be usable in landscape?
while searching i did find something interesting. a package called "Sunlight-booster"
i did notice whenever i have my brightness maxed. and i then move the phone into a bright light. the display boosts the brightness.
is there a way to get that extra bit of brightness on the normal brightness slider? or to manually activate the extreme brightness?
since this will be mounted in a car's dash. the sensor might never actually face direct sunlight. while the screen could still be hard to see. so I'd like to make it a tad more sensitive.
Thank you in advance!
