i'm checking the option of purchasing a droid 2 global with bad esn.
this is my question: does a phone with bad esn will work on any other GSM network outside of the US without any problem? (the phone of course is sim-unlocked)

I would say DON"T buy it, there are only 2 reasons i know of for a bad ESN, it's either stolen or more often cut off for non payment. Here is a useful link to help you out. It has info and links. They cover why and give links to check ESN,s and why they are locked, also give advice on how to find out if your carrier will be able to help you or not. http://www.ehow.com/how_6363360_check-bad-esn-cell-phone.html
Hello, I'm from Malaysia. Sorry if this question is so noob, i really don't know. I would like to buy a smartphones from here. It seems that a lot of them come from US sellers, and the smartphones like Samsung, HTC, Motorola and others comes by Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile and at&t. So, i am wondering can i use this types of phones in Malaysia?
Any explanation will be appreciated!
Not sure if i can ask this in the marketplace. Sorry.
You can only use AT&T or T-Mobile because they are GSM, but the phones have to be unlocked. Unlocked codes can be purchased online for like $20. Sprint and verizon use CDMA which is not supported overseas.
Thanks for the answer. So, it means that there are no other ways for me to get the Sprint or Verizon version unlocked? Is it only T-mobile and at&t or there are more? And, is it hard or too complicated for sellers from US to ship the phone that i will buy to Malaysia?
Thank you.

Ammo90, the answer is yes and no. If u into modding ur smartphone, u can flash those phone with custom GSM roms. but if u just wanna buy and use it, the chances is slim. Malaysia don't have CDMA coverage yet. and also, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T use their own branded rom for each phone.
what phone and budget do u expect?

The phone will not be the issue because I'm open to what are available but most of them comes from US as you can see in the marketplace, so i just want to know if we can use them.

hm... most likely u need to use custom ROMs in order to use Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T smartphones. that's it, I think... try avoid those that didn't use SIM card. look like a hassle to me.
what about S2 GT- I9100 Movistar (i think spain using this branded) and live in malaysia, it is not ok to flash using odin 3.04 this 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXLSJ like the VioTutorial post in Ytube.. most of the comment say can do this without root it.. what is the option if it get network lock? please.. i m stuck with this firmware

Can someone share their experience... if i buy an unlocked AT & T iPhone X, from USA under GSM network, model is A1901 (which is the same model that will be launch in Malaysia), will the iPhone X work in Malaysia under the major provider like Maxis, Digi, or Celcom?
I sent a friend of mine a Boost Mobile Phone , for her wedding gift she lives in Malaysia, where can she unlock the cell phone in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, and how much will it coast her?
Hi all, I would like to know if it is possible to unlock the phone that is locked to Sprint. Would flashing the stock firmware do the trick?
Thanks.
It won't be locked on Sprint. It's the exact same phone that's being sold in the Play Store.

BestBuy is selling the Sprint Nexus 5 off contract, but Sprint is CDMA right? I am an international user and here we only have GSM, so that phone would not be an option for me?

You are correct about the international part, but the flavor Sprint is selling is CDMA & GSM and works on AT&T, T-Mobile (both GSM carriers) as well as Sprint and other mnvos.

Hi, thank you verry much for your reply. So this phone should work with any GSM carrier or only US GSM carriers? And it should not need unlocking? I'm tinking about buying one but I'd like to be 100% sure that it will work here.
Thanks.

If I understand correctly, according to this table it should work correctly, I am from Argentina, and both carriers listed seem to have Voice, Text and 3G.

I have no idea. North America gets D820, while the rest of the world gets D821. Go compare their bands somewhere like gsmarena.
The Nexus 5 will work on any GSM carrier for voice and 3G, no issues there. Only issue will be LTE (4G). U.S version (D820) has different LTE radio versus Euro (rest of the world version (D821). If you don't care about LTE, then you're fine and good to go with any GSM carrier in your native Argentina.
I have been told that the Nexus 5 sold in BestBuy is CDMA only. What is it, I'm not sure if the guy from BestBuy I talked to was correct about this information. Thanks

Pretty sure this was answered above.
Beware - Sprint has never sold a phone which was totally SIM-unlocked. Until there is confirmation that someone bought the Sprint sold/marketed phone and put in a US SIM card that worked, I would not take the chance that the phone is unlocked.

I called 3 local best buys, checking on getting a Nex5 in hand as opposed to waiting on one from google. I asked each wireless-dept worker if I can buy the Nexus 5 for the full off-contract price and then go use it at t-mobile, I further then let them know I want to buy the Nexus 5 "unlocked" so I could use it on whatever carrier I choose.
All 3 people say no-go, must use on sprint.
Sooo - uneducated sales people? or is sprint locking the Nex5 before they send it to best buy? I took no chance and bought from play store.

You cannot believe anything the Droids at BestBuy tell you. They want you to activate the phone on Sprint so BB can collect the commission. Why would you buy the N5 at BB anyway? You like paying an extra $150 vs the Play Store?

its actually only $100... and deduct off $15 for shipping from google... and that I had $50 in best buy rewards from buying a dishwasher... I figured $35 to have it in my hand on the 8th would be cool. But in the end just ordered from play store and will have to wait 2-3 weeks.

ok heres the kicker the Spectrum is the real issue here. LTE bands are split on the 2 versions of Nexus 5's (NA (north America) and RoW (rest of World))
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/Q4A1X1oAOSs
compare those lte bands to this link to see what lte bands your service uses.

It is SIM Unlocked if that is what you are asking. You still need to make sure it supports the proper cellular bands for your carrier.

Sorry for my bad english

it should be unlocked.
Phone comes with everything unlocked.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Don't worry about it being unlocked man, you just need to worry about the bands. If your carrier is on 900 the US version should be fine but here is a chart for you to look at. http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/170166-nexus-5-excellent-global-coverage-perplexing-lte-support
thank you all !
Hello,
I just came back from US, I`m from Brazil.
Bought a SG6 edge from craigslist. Posted a "Wanted" topic and arranged a metting with a man who said the phone was unlocked and would work with any carrier GSM.
Well, only discovered that this was a Sprint model (SM-G925P) and that it was locked by sprint when got in Brazil (**I know that was kinda dumb).
My question is: This model could work with GSM carriers? in Brazil we only have GSM carriers..
If first answer is Yes, It is unlockable with unlock code?
Or should I just re-sell it on Ebay and pay the international shipping?
Edit: Ohhhh great, also just found out that this phone has a Bad IMEI/ESN. This is bad for me, even overseas?
Thanks!
The bad ESN should only keep you from activating it on Sprint. Sorry that you got scammed...that sucks.
Thank you. ]
does this work with GSM also?
How could I unlock it?

The only way to get it unlock is thru Sprint. Sorry you got scammed, but you should have asked for the ESN before you bought it.

I know this is an old thread but looking for any advice. In a similar situation/scam. The ESN is not blacklisted, just still attached to a account. Thought I did my homework and called Sprint before purchasing and verified that ESN could be used. They didn't tell me it was still attached. Do I have any options as far as using this phone or should i just try to sell it to be used on another carrier or overseas? Any help is greatly appreciated?
