Lg V20 QuadDAC vs. Astell & Kern AK240 SS HiFi music player (($3400)) oops. - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

http://www.ubergizmo.com/articles/lg-v20-quad-dac-how-it-works/
I just quotes Source ubergizmo .. worth reading
,,..."I COMPARED THE LG V20 WITH A $3400 PLAYER: NO PERCEPTIBLE DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY"
:good:
Finally, I went “high-end” and borrowed a pair of Sennheiser HD 800 (~$1,400) and an Astell & Kern AK240 SS HiFi music player (~3,000). With the HD 800 headphones, I compared the LG V20 with that $3400 player: no perceptible difference in quality. If you take away one thing about this article, that should be it...,,
What is the LG V20’s “Quad DAC” and how does it affect audio quality?

It does sound amazing. I just wish I could get the stock music player on my AT&T variant so I know I'm getting the full benefit of the DAC

I haven't really played with the DAC on the v20 yet but this is pretty amazing if true.
I loved the v10 DAC of course I am not using thousand dollar headphones I've got Bose QC 25s and Klipsch. Both show a fair difference with the v10 DAC.

This was written by a forum moderator PowerAMP: :good:

Download a US996 ROM and take the APK out of their priv-app folders and put it in yours.
Now you have the v20 music player.

I've tried that and I always get a "Package appears to be Corrupt" error. Doesn't matter which ROM I take it from

Get the DAC fix from the playstore , it definitely works with the v20 and 3rd party players.

I would love to see people stop suggesting this - the DAC fix app hasn't even been needed on the V10 for some time (since marshmallow), and does nothing for the V20. What the V20 needs, is a fix to allow apps other than the stock app to output higher than 44khz (more info here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70637384&postcount=44)

Cant just install a system only app.
It needs to be put into system/priv-app/
And permissions set to match the other apps in
That directory. It works on att. There's a post about it working for a att user who did it. Can also just put into your rom.zip
In the same spot and flash rom and it will install.

I just can't wait for DAC support on AOSP. Albinoman887 had said it was possible a few weeks back so I'm eagerly awaiting support! As much as I love the DAC, I just can't give up the 35 hours of use per charge I get on AOSP with Thrasher's RR.

I use usb audio player, it is $10 on play store this uses the dac if you toggle it on in quick settings,
This app plays dsd files.. If your flacs/MP3 are encoded at 48k or above, that is the resolution they are played back at.

USB audio player will play ALL files, however, it is transcoding them to 48khz PCM prior to outputting because it can only see the Qualcomm DAC not the ESS Sabre DAC even though it is toggled on.

@mlknez has answered questions extensively about the use of the DAC in the following thread:

I tried that app. It does indeed play DSD files, but like the rest of them, it only sees the Qualcomm DAC capabilities. It converts to PCM and decimates to 48khz. It will however see any EXTERNAL dac and play DSD files natively that way. Quickest way to check is to play a DSD file and if you get any notification sounds without the music going quiet, you are really hearing PCM. The SABRE DAC cannot do both DSD and PCM at the same time.

Desire i.c.w. SE HBH-DS200-> bad audio quality

I've been using this headset for a long time now. And I would like to use it with my desire as well. But the sound quality is so poor that it's like listening to a 56k mp3 file while actually I'm playing a 320kbps mp3.
It seems to me that somehow the bitrate on the bluetooth connection isn't high enough(very low actually).
Does anybody here know how I can change that easily? Or do you have any other solutions for this problem without buying a new headset.
btw, I use a Sennheiser HD215 headphone or the SE in-ear ear buds.
thanks in advance
I'm using the SE MW600 and I have no problems. Using stock rom with the update.

No actually I never touched these settings because they were already enabled when I paired the devices. And I figured it would be quite crucial to have those settings enabled if I wanted to use those profiles.

Was hoping you would conclude from my post that there isn't a problem with the Desire regarding bitrates over bluetooth. Does the headset work on other devices without problems?

Ok, I know that for example the mw600 headset from SE works fine. So I think it's just the combination of devices, but that would be solved if I would be able to alter the bitrate.
I have used the headset with other devices without any problem, other than that I had to set the bitrate higher on a WM 6.5 device.

Voodoo Control Plus app. Best thing sense sliced bread

Hey everyone,
If you know anything about Voodoo sound, then you know that it is amazing on the Galaxy S phones.
Well our man Supercurio Made this amazing app that does not rely on a modified Kernel.
It does cost $2. But is well worth supporting his hard work for.

Ok ordered it and hopefully I am able to make it sound great like I had it on my NS b4!!
Just picked it up myself as well.
Wow that's amazing. Well worth the $2.
Whatta difference i will say!! it is definitely worth the couple of bucks

Question
Being the Noob android user that I am, I have a question. I'm a bit confused if I need anything special on my phone to use this app. My phone is rooted which I believe was one pre-requisite. I would love to help the developer by purchasing this, but want to make sure I'm able to actually use it Being I know nothing yet about sound that came with my device I figured I would ask here first.

All you need is rooted device. If you plug in your headphones and listen to it normally.
Then get this app and enable it. Listen again with it enabled. The sound is way better and can get much louder. Really be careful not to go to loud or you will hurt your ears. ;-)

Does this help with in call volume?
One of the other things to remember. It really helps with recording videos in loud environments.
I have tried to record at concerts and my videos have turned out horribly due to the sound. I tested it out today with the Recording setting on in my car with music blaring and it was amazing how well the audio sounded compared to without this setting on.
#1. I use an FM transmitter from my phone jack to radio, so it improves the sound tremendously.
#2. I record at concerts and this will greatly improve the audio for those videos, it's like night and day.

It's probably hard to tell the difference here. This is only for recording volumes. I did this test as a way to see the difference. I video alot of concerts and the past videos have sucked for audio.
With Voodoo Control Plus (High Quality audio feature checked)

Without Voodoo Control Plus

In regards to does it improve the sounds? Yes it does. I use the pandora and the amazon cloud player on my device via an FM transmitter to my car's stereo. Not only can you boost the volume, but it improves the quality of the sound too.
It's definitely worth the 2 bucks in my opinion, if not for the improvements of sound level and quality, then for the ability to record videos in loud environments without it being garbled.

[Q] Bluetooth Audio a bit low?

Hey guys,
Recently switched from wired headphones to wireless Bluetooth ones and am noticing that the volume is significantly lower via Bluetooth audio. I am using the Google play music app. The music is a bit louder when streaming etc but its about 75% of what i would want the max to be when using google music. Anyways to adjust this setting? Maybe something in the mixerpaths.xml for Bluetooth audio?
Thanks!

You like music? Don't buy it. (About The Honor 8 Audio Subsystem)

Hi.
Please forgive my grammar mistakes; English isn't my first language.
Why no reviewer talks about it? Why are reviews so superficial? I'm quite irritated. I've been using the Honor 8 since 1st Dec. 2016 and so far I've noticed that:
1. There's no system-level audio equalizer: this means that you have to live with the flat audio that comes out of the sound card, which is not pleasant if you really enjoy listening to music. Of course you can use a cool audio player such as Poweramp, but what about sounds coming from other apps? What about YouTube, for example?
2. You can't adjust the L-R audio balance: WTF? Again, you can use Poweramp, but what about any other sound?
3. The included earphones sound bad, like really bad. OK, if you are an audiophile you use something else, but... WTF?
4. MIDI audio output: I played a MIDI file using com.lonelycatgames.Xplore and after about a minute the phone rebooted. I used to enjoy using those piano-simulator-apps(?), such as com.rubycell.pianisthd, but the audio output is full of clicks and pops (can't explain it better, sorry). EDIT (02/03/2017): no more clicks and pops after upgrading from Android 6.0 (FRD-L09C432B120) to 7.0 (FRD-L09C432B360).
5. (a bit off topic): When using MX Player (to play video files, not audio) the HW/HW+ decoder fails to play some videos the right way (I mean, they're like slowed down).
edit (08/04/17):
6. Good luck using with satisfaction apps like "Samsung Health" or "Huawei Health". Their processes get terminated randomly when the phone is not in use (display is off). No, telling the phone to never close those processes doesn't work. AND NO, telling the apps to "ignore battery optimizations" doesn't work either. F--K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't buy it again. This phone is clearly not made for audio(/video)-obsessed people.
Guys, what are your thoughts about the A/V experience this smartphone offers?

2. You can actually adjust the L-R balance : Settings- advanced settings-accessibility-sound balance.
3. There were no earphones with my phone (L04).
My impressions are audio is not bad, I had HTC M8 before and it was definitely better, but the Honor does the job and i'm pretty satisfied.
When campared to my note 4 , the note 4 wins by a land slide.. I was disappointed when i first heard music on my honor 8.
Easiest fix: Just flash v4a
Unless you really don't want to unlock your device then i don't know but v4a gets the job more then done

I do agree that the lack of equalizer is very unpleasant. I miss my good old phones with Cyanogen and my equalizers.
I had Honor 7 and LG G3 before the 8 and I managed to install Viper4Android which is the best equalizer of all times but since I didn't unlock the Honor 8 yet...

My opinion:
For music the best is Alcatel 4, stereo speakers, jbl headphones, built in app equalizer, dj mode..
But its music phone.
Honor 8 is good for daily using whatever you want.
Great camera, display and even one speaker of sound is nice though should be louder. Honor have HiSilicon Hi6402 audio chipset. DTS sound effect in music player.
Ok, it have no equalizer (it piss me off because in play store you can find only trash), but we can install Viper if we rooted our phone.
If no root mode we can use poweramp as you said, maybe no works with youtube but who listen to music on youtube if audio there have not good quality.

No, f**k, it's not possible to pay 330€ to get such a low quality audio. I don't accept it. And we're still only talking about the lack of eq. What about the crappy HW video decoder? What about the bad midi output? I can't believe it.

No, f**k, it's not possible to pay 330€ to get such a low quality audio. I don't accept it. And we're still only talking about the lack of eq. What about the crappy HW video decoder? What about the bad midi output? I can't believe it.

Thanks. Someday I'll try. I wish I could have access to another Honor 8 to experiment with.

I agree. I'm not sure whether it's just the software that sucks, though.

I've unlocked bootloader and flashed TWRP many times without failure.
I've also bricked my phone a few times and manage to unbrick it.
I think installing v4a honestly shouldn't be hard whatsoever if you need help you can just search forums
I agree. The sound, even with dts, is mediocre. I have never had a good pair of buds or headphones come by default. I always buy 3rd party.
The only major con is the ios skin. The video is npt grreat but not bad. So 1 major flaw and 2 small issues. GREAT PHONE.
Lol which music fanatic buys a phone to listen to music sorry but you failed completly by yourself
Get viper and you should be fine

If someone want to have one device to everything is ok.
So i should buy camera, mp3 player etc?
The same with people which buys phone for taking pictures, why not? Now smartphones haves very good audio chipsets and firmware addons which makes phone better than many other players. Problem with honor is that his firmware is not made for music lovers but as you said Viper can change it.
Ps i find no root, not bad app, good for headphones

Question Coming From Oneplus 6

Hey Folks
My Oneplus 6 just died (purchased 4 years ago) so tomorrow I have to go buy a new phone ASAP.
For the last decade I have been an XDA enthusiast (lurker) rooting/romming my phones to get TWRP/debloat/adAway/viper4android etc
I am leaning towards grabbing a S22U tomorrow from a retail store here in my country (Australia). Money is not an issue, I want the best phone I can get right now.
I currently don't have the personal time to be rooting/romming to get my new phone perfect and my understanding is Samsung phones don't permit that unless they trip Knox and create hardware problems I don't want to deal with.
So my question to you XDA is:
(1) Are there any system wide ad blocking alterntives equivalent to adAway that don't require root?
(2) What about audio? If we can't root then we can't run viper4android and get that elite sound right? Any workarounds or alterntives?
(3) Debloat? I usually just use Titanium Backup to nuke all the bundled trash in my phones, is there any alternative without root?
Thanks for any replies =]
1: Either DNS blocking (dns.adguard.com) or Alliance shield X which can block all ads and has customized firewall.
2: No idea what Viper did, but Samsung has Dolby sound and the speakers are fine.
3: You'll have to use ADB to debloat and there are several apps and lists you can use on your PC to debloat.
I used to root every phone I had, but since I switched to Samsung I don't really find it necessary and I often messed stuff up and bricked some phones. Also many banking apps wouldn't work, so.. yeah, not worth it anymore.

Appreciate the reply.
I really can't be bothered rooting anymore and I really wan't to be able to use Gpay etc on my phone and watch.
Cheers.
What are the odds that we are both updating from op6 to s22u?
1. I have been using dns ad guard thing the other user said.
2. s22u does have an equalizer if that's what you're looking for. It does not have a headphone jack so if you're an audiophile idk if its the right option. I can't tell the different between a flac and mp3 so I am not the right person to answer this lmao.
3. There is barely any bloat on s22u. I uninstalled pretty much everything and disabled 2-3 apps which couldn't be uninstalled. Your milage may vary obviously based on what you consider bloat and all that. At the end there are like two apps which bother me but I assume they are necessary for the phone to work so I can't disable them.

"does not have a headphone jack so if you're an audiophile idk if its the right option"
No 3.5 jack but the charging port works as a earphone/headphone jack.

good to know. I thought the headphone jack meant there was more audio hardware inside the phone itself.

Samsung's workaround created two issues. Obviously one can't use headphones and charge the device simultaneously unless you employ wireless charging. Also there are very few earphones which connect using a Type C Connector. One option is Samsung's Type C Noise Cancelling Earphones. They sound pretty good with some nice bass as well.
Not a lot of purchasing options but they are available on Ebay. Other than that one can use Type C to 3.5 Jack adapter.
For superior audio I'd recommend Poweramp which incorporates an Equalizer.
PowerAmp is a great player with lots of settings. I have been using it for quit a while. I have a Watch4 Classic and the PowerAmp controls come up on it when I am playing songs. As for headphones, an adapter works fin and there are plenty out there. There are dual port adapters that will allow you to charge and listen at the same time, but I would recommend going to a wireless headset like the Samsung Buds, Bose Buds or any of the good quality buds out there.
I use ADB AppControl to disable any of the system loaded apps that I cannot uninstall. It does not remove the system apps and save you any room, but it does disable them so you do not see them any more. Also still will allow you to get updates without issues.
One thing I do recommend is get the 256M version or larger. Samsung has deleted the micro SD slot, so be sure to get enough RAM to cover yourself. You do have cloud storage for a lot of things though.

Yup +1 for Poweramp I deffinately will be installing that. Also going to grab the 512GB version.
One more question folks.
Is youtube Vanced still a thing? I think I recall seeing they have abandonded the project but it is still working fine on my Oneplus 6 although havent updated it in about 2 years.
If no Vanced, any suggestions for alternatives for adblcoking on youtube with background playback?
Give NewPipe a try.

if you're looking to integrate your subscriptions/recommended videos Newpipe is honestly not it. Its a great app if you don't rely on your google account. Vanced still works if Newpipe doesn't do it for you like it didn't for me.
This is the only true non-root alternative to viper. Stumbled across this the other day and I'm blown away.

Perfect! thats exaclty what I was looking for. Much appreciated.
Next dns is a great alternative to adguard. It's a no root dns alternative. I don't use adblocking through a vpn because I also have a vpn app I use and they conflict.
