CONFIRMED working 3.5 audio adapters - Moto Z Force Accessories

I'm starting to see a number of USB-C to 3.5 headphone jack adapters on Amazon, though a great many of them have less than fantastic reviews and many reviewers indicated they don't work for specific phones. I recently saw one that was specifically indicated to work with the Moto Z, so I went ahead and bought. It came today and I am able to CONFIRM that it does indeed work with my Verizon Moto Z Force phone.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7R8PWO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The USB-C adapter seems to fit well, and I'm getting audio from the Google Music player in both ears just fine. Just thought I'd share my results in case others were looking for working adapters. If you found one that definitely works with Moto Z as well, please share it here.

I'd be interested in finding out if anybody finds one which allows charging at the same time (some sort of USB-C to 3.5mm + USB-C adapter). Otherwise, my phone is useless on a road trip (running Waze eats the battery quick, and I like to listen to music via Aux In). I know that the Car Dock Mod allows this, but that's via the Mod adapter on the back of the phone and I need to use a Universal dock (wife uses an iPhone).

FWIW, if you have a wireless charging mod, TILT makes a universal car dock with wireless charging: http://www.tylt.com/car-products/capio-car-mount
That'll leave the port open for the 3.5mm adapter. Waze will probably still eat faster than wireless will charge, but it should extend the time significantly.

I should probably read posts before responding to them. Please ignore. :]

Incipio actually makes a really good vehicle dock mod that allows you to charge and has a 3.5mm output. Only mod I use regularly, it's ridiculously convenient. Crazy that it's not very well known, because it's easily the most useful Moto Mod.

Derp, didn't read the original quote, my bad.

You get one with your phone though so does it matter if there are after market ones?

To me it does. I don't want to carry it everywhere with me to get potentially lost or mangled in my pocket. I'd rather leave one at work, one in the car, and one at home.

I see. I actually only use mine in the car now for the aux input but otherwise I've already converted to Bluetooth headphones unfortunately. And no, not beats. Beats are terrible.

I found what claimed to be OEM Moto cables on Amazon and ordered a couple, but they are currently unavailable. I paid $7.58 each.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0ZYNV8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also ordered this one, which was made by a third party and was $6.99
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0GHUCW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I cannot speak to durability because I just received them in the last week, but all of them did at least work initially.

My solution to the lack of aux jack on the car dock.

I agree that having an aux jack on the Nexus One car dock would be pretty sweet, but it is what it is, and I wanted to move on... Here is what I did:
Nexus One (duh)
Nexus One car dock (...)
Kensington LiquidAuxbluetooth car kit: us.kensington.com/html/14484.html
Micro USB cable
Plug the Kensington L.A. into the accessory outlet, and connect the audio output plug to your AUX on your stereo. The L.A. provides a USB port to use for the Micro USB cable. (for charging)
Plug the micro USB cable in this port and route to your car dock.
Once you pair your phone with the L.A. place it in the car dock and setup the audio to be whatever combination you would like. I personally use the dock for calls (because the mic is better) and the L.A. for audio.
One accessory outlet, (no splitters) one wire coming from it to the dock, audio routed through the AUX in your stereo, and (IMO) really great call audio thanks to the dock and noise canceling, which still works with the phone in the dock...
Just sharing my experience, YMMV, IANAL, OMG, WTF, BBQ...

+ 1. That looks like a really good solution. Another benefit you did not mention is that by powering the Car Dock with the Micro USB cable, you do away with the spiral lead that is on the Car Dock power supply. So easier to route and hide.
Any issues with charging the phone and powering the car dock? Isn't the car doc charger higher output than regular chargers and perhaps the one on the LiquidAux?
how's the music sound quality?

No issues I have noticed so far, there is no additional <warmth> on the LiquidAux I have been able to detect, and the phone charges just as quickly as it would when plugged in using OEM adapter. And yes, losing the spiral lead is a nice bonus...

Sound quality for me is great, there is no interruptions, etc I have noticed. But I suspect that this would be a YMMV kind of thing based on the car stereo used and the distance / path (if that even matters with the relatively short distance) between the LiquidAux device and the phone...

Another question for you... Does the remote work with the phone? I'm waiting for mine to get here but I had read from many reviews that the control did not work properly with the iphone, just wondering if the nexus one had the same problem.

awesome writeup... Even if this thing doesn't work to pickup calls I don't care, I always have a bluetooth headset for the car anyhow. I think I'll get an extra socket and mount it all under the dash out of sight.
Even thought you can plug in a wire to the headphone jack I want a solution where I can stick the phone in the holder when I get in, and pull it right out without messing with cables every fricken time... Most the time I don't plug my phone in right now just because of that very reason.
With a nice setup like this I'd plug my phone in every time I get in the car... awesome, Thanks!
Just ordered mine off amazon.. seems like a great price for the product.

The media functions work fantastic with the Nexus, the iPhone does not support track skip, where the Nexus does. I have not been able to get the phone button to start voice dialing like the iPhone does. I have not actually had a call while driving to pickup yet, so I can't say for certain whether that (pickup incoming) works or not...

I have call audio go through the dock, yes. The LiquidAux has a microphone, but it is quite far away from the the speaker's mouth IMO. Additionally, the dock still uses the extra Michael for active noise cancelling and is quite crisp and clear for calls. (I have so far made several outbound calls with great results.) The music pauses, audio routes up to the dock for the duration of the call, then the music resumed on the car speakers automatically...

Best car dock for nexus one ?

Hello,
I know Google made a care dock, in fact I have the Desktop Dock.
But I read a couple of reviews and the results were not satisfying.
So I need your advice !
What is the best Care Dock for the Nexus One ?
I want to use it as GPS/phone but not media player.

I have the Nexus Dock that was sold by Google. It's great for GPS and I have to say it is OK at best for hands free phone. Maybe in a quieter car (Chevy Blazer here) but I have a hard time hearing people even at maximum volume. My car is a little loud though so maybe someone else may have better input for that issue I have. It seems with some of the older roms on my phone I had a few connection issues(random bluetooth connection drops) but on some of the newer roms I haven't had that problem at all. As far as a media player.. meh If you like listening to your music through a CB radio speaker then this is the dock for you! It is very well made as far as construction. I've had mine almost a year now and it still works with no issues. In all reality the music player doesn't sound terrible through the speaker but it doesn't sound great, the phone feature is OK and navigation is great. It is a good product but just like any other product it is not perfect.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't have a car dock, and the htc website is out of stock now),
but can't you set your phone to use bluetooth A2DP to connect to a bluetooth capable car stereo automatically when you put it in the dock? Or is that the situation you have where you talk about bad audio quality?
Also, can't you get car stereos/kits that give you handsfree speakerphone using your stereo and an external mic?
For me, the dock is little better than a car charger if it doesn't auto connect to such newfangled wizardry to solve these problems automagically (the dock does actually CHARGE the phone too, right?).

The dock's built-in speaker has not so great audio. You can connect it to a bluetooth capable stereo, I just happen to not have one of those. I am sure there are kits out there that do all of the above. Yes it does charge the phone as well. The phone connects to the dock's speaker via Bluetooth and that's what I meant about the previous random bluetooth drops. For what I use it for, mostly navigation and charging it serves it's purpose.

Oh, the car dock has an extra built in speaker? I kinda assumed you were talking about audio coming from the phone's built in speaker. I see. Thanks for the heads up, in any case.
Arkon has good universal car mounts. The good thing is that it is future proof assuming that phones don't get super wide.

please know that if you order it, it ships from China. With all the Chinese New Year festivities going on there it will probably take 4 weeks to get here.
From Amazon
I bought this dock: http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-K3...h-Compatible/dp/B003Y3BEV4/ref=dp_ob_title_ce
And although is supposedly for the iPhone, it works great with the N1. I modded the base, so it will hold the tip of this charger: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000S5Q9CA/ref=oss_product?ie=UTF8&redirect=true
The dock you can either put it in the windshield or in one of the vents. I put mine in a vent, because it is closer to my hand and I don't have to reach to the windshield to operate the phone, when I am using the car home.
I hope that this info helps.
I've had no issues with the Google car dock.
Happily rockin' the Google Car Dock as well. I love the docks with this phone!
I used this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744728&highlight=diy
did the job nice! and cheap too!
I have been looking for a dock and the google dock is no longer being sold by google and is only available on ebayor amazon, there is a buy now on ebay for $79, and it costs $185 on amazon! It looks really nice though, it original sold for $55, so I may shell out the premium to get the only really nice dock i have seen
If I didn't already have the google car dock, I'd probably give this a go:

I'd love to hack an audio out port directly only my official N1 car dock....other than that, it's fantastic.
I have the official Google/HTC car dock, and am satisfied with it. The speaker in it is OK, but not great if you have a loud vehicle. Communication between the dock and phone is via Bluetooth, despite it being physically clipped in. I had a small issue where I found that music would play via the dock speaker, but phone calls would only play on the phone's speaker, oddly.
Also, after taking a road trip with my N1 as a GPS unit before I got the dock, I found that a standard car 12v --> USB adapter with a microUSB cable did not provide enough juice to power the phone while using Google Nav with GPS. It would slowly discharge the battery over time. This happened with 3 different 12v--> USB adapters, so maybe most of them out there don't put out enough amps.
Anyways, I got mine last fall from HTC's site, which was (and still is) backordered. I did eventually get it, though.
Because I'm an xda forum noob, it won't let me post the URL... but just Google "shopamerica" and "HTC" and find accessories for the Nexus One from the HTC America site.
the only problem with non Google Car Dock/Car Mount is that phone dialer never show in landscape
is there any trick to emulate google car dock to allow dialer to be in landscape ?
thanks

there is a little workaround for that - the MOTOROLA T505 (google it) hands-free device works miracles..it has a decent, loud, inbuilt speaker, communicates via bluetooth with the N1, and transmits via FM to your car-stereo. it searches for "least used/weakest signal" on the entire FM frequency band, announces verbally the FM frequency you need to set your radio to, and off you go. as a bonus, it has an inbuilt rechargeable battery so you can take it anywhere.Works for making calls and music 'broadcasts'

[Q] Dock with speakers or speaker output?

I listen to a lot of audio books while I fight insomnia at night. I'm looking for a dock for the Inspire that utilizes the headphone jack with either a pass-through so that you can hook up external speakers or, preferably, has built-in speakers. If it can also charge a spare battery, that would be even better. I can't seem to find anything like that though - even from Hong Kong. Has anyone seen anything like that?
I think we are not really seeing very many docks, so far. Which is weird since the DHD has been out there for a while. I hope the fact that there are now a bunch of Inspire's out there that we will see more docks. I'm still waiting\looking for one myself.

S4 DockMode works on iBOLT xProDock...

Hello everyone, with this post we can confirm that the Galaxy S4's vehicle "DockMode" works perfect with the xProDock. See image where it was checked today against AT&T's and Sprint's version. Friends from Europe have also confirmed it works fine with the International version.
Driving using the "DockMode" combined with a Bluetooth for hands-free is great as it turns your S4 into a virtual driving assistant and entertainment center, all while you stay away from texting while driving. Keeping the phone above the dashboard obviously also increases both cell phone and GPS reception. Stepping out of the car with a charged phone is another nice benefit with using a charging dock.
Connect the S4 into the xPro and go to "Settings-Accessory" and select "Dock Sound", "Audio out" and "Deskhome display" and then download your favorite "docking app". We've found our own "Dock'n Drive", "CarHome Ultra", "Ulysse Speedometer", "TuneIn" and "Slacker Radio" to be the S4 "Dock home" alternatives. We recommend using one of the first three and then have "shortcuts" to your favorite apps.
The aux-out sound to car-stereo through the microUSB cable also works great on the S4. This means the car-dock only needs ONE cable connected and yet at the other end it splits into a USB male connection and 3.5 mm aux-out that you connect into the vehicle's car-stereo (not needed if you have Bluetooth A2DP support). Keep in mind that Samsung's firmware only allows for "App sound" to be transmitted to the car-speakers through the microUSB, NOT phone calls so you must still use a Bluetooth solution for in-and outgoing calls.
Camera view is also free so you can use the S4 as an excellent "dash cam" with one of the many apps available for capturing video using a "loop". All cases are compatible, even Otterbox Defender or Ballistic Maxx type.
We have also started to ship our new "Stick Anywhere" mount with this which means you can attach it directly to the dashboard's hard surface without using the "disc" used for many years with car-docks. If you don't like the suction Mount concept there's an AMPS plate option which allows you to mount the xPro on a KUDA or ProClip mount for example.
You can order the xProDock for Galaxy S4 on Amazon in the US and Europe. Just type in "xProDock" on eBay and we should have it listed there too in most countries.
Feel free to ask questions or use this thread to discuss any product in the category... We'll comment if warranted. Thanks!

The Infuse Dock can't be used with the Galaxy S4 no matter what. This has to do with the fact that Samsung has changed the pin-out configuration when moving to the "new platform" so there's no technical way (to the best of our knowledge) to get it to charge or to start the car-mode. Not sure if this helps?

This and the TecTiles? Come on, makes me go crazy over here, but I digress - thanks Mikael, much appreciated, great work!

Very interesting indeed...
I have a question.. There is a long cable that is attached to the dock and end with the car-charger right? So is that a standard USB port so I can use my own charger or does it come with a car charger itself?
Now the issue with many standard USB car chargers is that they don't charge the phone fast enough. With the GPS on, it actually drains the battery slowly. I am going to get an official Samsung car charger soon.. but will I be able to use with with the xProDock?

Now the issue with many standard USB car chargers is that they don't charge the phone fast enough. With the GPS on, it actually drains the battery slowly. I am going to get an official Samsung car charger soon.. but will I be able to use with with the xProDock?

It does not come with a charging solution, they leave that part up to you, thankfully.... If it were attached to a cheap 1A cigarette lighter adapter, I wouldn't want anything to do with it, but since I can connect this to my 2.1A adapter I already bought and used for months on my SIII, I'm certainly happy with that!
My xProDock is out for delivery, pics coming soon......!

Very disappointed about the Infuse dock issue but this dock may end up being even better. Purchased and will be sure to test.
It's great! I just received mine and coming off an infuse dock, I love it. I am using it in conjunction with their own app and it works flawlessly. Thanks for the super fast shipping guys.

How is the USB connector? Can you get the S4 in and out of the dock and connect the USB with one hand easily?
The USB cord is very stable. It is flexible, but not loose. Similar to the feeling of a goose neck stand. It will stay in the bent shape and position you leave it in. The mount is extremely easy to use, and works with any case. The GS4 goes right into dock mode as soon as it sees the usb plug even if its not connected to power. The cord has a built in plug for the audio as well. The cord has the appearance of being permanently part of the mount, but there is a cover on the back that hides the removable plug. The windshield mount is first rate and did not budge until released.
On a related note....while plugged in, I saw NO battery drain as I had on the Infuse while using map apps, Escort Live radar app, or anything else. The unit continued to charge during all of the above. This in itself is a huge improvement over the previous phone/power combos. I would always have horrible drain even when plugged in when using power hungry apps with BT, GPS, etc...

That has more to do with the charging adapter you're using than the cable itself - what adapter are you using, a 2A or a 1A?
FULL review coming tomorrow from me, lots of pics, lots of details, along with the good AND the to be desired, nothing bad to report! Tired as hell right now and don't have the energy to finish it and post it, so I'm calling it a night...... until tomorrow!

For some reason, with the Infuse and dock, it never seemed to matter what power adapter I used... It always discharged. This combo is charging fine.
And finally, my incredibly long review on the dock is up, lots of pics!

Haha, very time consuming, but it's always worth it when recommending a good product and to give some insight that others may not know
Thanks!
Just wanted to post a helpful tip to anyone using this dock and wants to keep the screen on ONLY when docked, not all the time like the phone settings menu allows you to set "while charging." Always on while charging means that if my screen comes on for any reason while propped up on my desktop charger in the middle of the night, it's on the whole night! This just helps to utilize both Dock Mode that iBolt has figured out how to incorporate into their xProDock and the original Android Car Mode that we probably all know and love from the days of the Infuse 4G car dock!
Here's the link to the steps I used to get this working - it's a little hectic, but should only take about 2 to 5 minutes to set up, depending on what apps you may or may not have already installed

I have the original iBolt with the cable and it does not work on the S4. The phone doesn't charge and audio doesn't come out. I have CarHome Ultra installed and using BeyondPod.

Is it the xProDock? They developed this new dock for Samsung specifically to address the issue that all the old ways wouldn't work on the S4. Their product page shows old docks and new docks with the old "In Vehicle Charging Dock" as separate products to identify this. It's an issue with Samsung changing things around and not something iBolt did in order to make you buy a new dock.... hell, Samsung even axed compatibility with their previous dock, making buying the xProDock the ONLY solution available to charge and send the vehicle into dock mode! I fought to get the Infuse 4G dock to work with the S4, but Samsung tinkered around with stuff so much, they caused me to have to buy the xProDock too....

USB-C charging and audio?

As visible https://youtu.be/N3dhyA3femQ?t=1m20s here , the car dock allows for charging and audio at the same time. Now, is there a single cable to do the same or is this only possible with a mod?
maybe this will work when they release it https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gromaudio/smart-android-usb-car-converter-cable-for-music-on
I think your only option at the moment for such use case is either to get the incipio mod or that one on indiegogo with wireless charging and put it on a wireless charging stand. Either way I don't think it's worth the hassle.
You'll be way better with a Bluetooth headset or If you have some high end wired headset, there are dedicated Bluetooth receivers with 3.5 mm jack ...
Third option would be to just get the car dock and cut the mounting part
I think you are looking for something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moto-Z-Type-C-to-3-5-mm-and-charger-2-in1-Headphone-Jack-USB-C-Adapter/282489851364 don't you?
I was searching for something like that myself since I got this phone. I could only find it with lightning port but stumbled upon this e-bay listing just now.
I'm not exactly keen to buy something from an e-bay seller from China/Hong Kong/Taiwan with an estimated arrival date of a whole month.

Don't bother buying this one. It says it's "Charging" but it doesn't actually charge.

Have someone tried the Amazon ones ?
Have anyone found a working cable?
I am also looking for one, but I would like it to have mic also work (4 connector 3.5mm plug) + turbopower charge / sync with PC.
2 years and no good solution out yet? Incredible... Why take the 3.5mm plug out to begin with? SMH!
I need a 4-in-1 solution: Listen+Talk+Charge+Sync.
Bumping the thread as I've bought this adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB...Type-C-to-3-5-Earphone-audio/32840199350.html
Pros:
* It works
* It's very cheap
Cons:
* No data sync - my guess is that USB C uses D+/D- for audio signal,
* No microphone - idk if it's simply something that this particular adapter skips or what. Not a dealbraker for me anyway.
It's also an alternative for the original usb-c - jack adapter in case that one breaks.

I saw that a huge amount of splitters worked "well" but when it charges and has the headphones connected some noises start to sound... The same applies for this one or it works perfectly?
I've just tested it using the fastest charger I've found with regular USB output, LG's model MCS-04ER (got it with my G2, it's 1.8A, not recognized as TurboCharge but charging).
No noise at all.
But from my experience - it all depends on the charger, not on the splitter. When I've tried listening to music on said G2 while charging it with a cheapo car charger the noise was unbearable.
My guess is that cheap chargers cause noises on the ground line, which is the same ground as the one in the audio jack. Also running charging cable alongside audio one can cause additional noise through induction.
PS. Another minor con of this splitter: the charging lead ends with a big USB-A plug instead of a type-C (or even regular micro-USB) socket.
