Hi all,
I have a K1 and have been using it for around a year with little issues. But it became sluggish and unresponsive so I felt it was time for a fresh rom.
I first went for AICP - 12.1 - N 7.1_r9, later also tried Tesla N - 7.1.1_r13 [OMS] and Cyanogenmod 13.0 for Shield Tablet, but no matter what ROM I tried, I always end up with absolutely NO wifi.
When trying to activate Wifi during the initial setup, it takes forever and then just quits trying. No networks show up and my MAC is shown as "02: 00: 00: 00: 00: 00" which I am sure is not my actualy MAC address.
I have read into the issue here androidpolice. com/2016/02/02/nvidia-has-halted-the-android-6-0-update-for-the-shield-tablet-because-it-might-break-your-wifi/ and on other sites and it appears to be a known issue. But the bug described above is
a) so old I'm sure it has been fixed in N 7.1 or CM 13.01 and
b) is supposed to only affect the original shield tablet and not the K1 version.
(maybe not even a bug but a feature? android-developers. googleblog.com/2016/02/marshmallow-and-user-data.html)
I read somewhere that rebooting might help, it did not. Also, someone suggested to use ES File Explorer to change the MAC manually. Sadly, I get a write error when trying to change the txt file.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
What OS version were you on before going the custom rom way? 1.5 (the latest)? 1.4 had WIFI issues. And 1.5 has a new bootloader.

I actually have not checked but can say I have applied all OTA updates that were available from nvidia
Did you do a clean installation of your custom rom (Wipe system, cache, data)? Especially not wiping system before flashing a new rom can be the culprit.

I used the standard TWRP wipe a few times and also manually did more complete wipes before flashing the different roms.
The standard TWRP wipe does not format system. You must use "Advanced" and then select system !!, cache and data (a so-called "clean flash"). If you don't format system you get incompatible settings especially if you switch between different rom and os versions. If you want to return to stock search in this forum. There is a detailed description here.

quite sure I did include a system wipe at least once during the numerous flashes. But thanks for the tip, I will try this later today and let you know.
I again tried fresh installs of different ROMs, this time I have wiped everything except SD. No difference, still the same useless MAC address and no wifi.
Sorry, but I don't have much more ideas.
Tried to reset your router? Removed the tablet from the router?
I remember someone having such problems before. And his router had saved some incorrect informations. After removing the device from the router or resetting it (don't what it was anymore) the device was working again.

thanks for the ideas, anyway. I don't see how this could be router-related because the device does not even enable the wifi. I have multiple networks in my house and the error occurs long before any of them should be visible.
I guess my only option is to find a stock ROM and see if that helps. I tried HyperStock yesterday with no success...
Then you should go the hard way and return your tablet to stock 1.5.0. Remember to save your data since everything will be erased.

I have transformer tf101 (Honeycomb 3.2.1 + 16GB + Dock) that I purchased in August 2011. For first 6 months I was on stock ROM and everything was working fine. After that I flashed Android Revolution HD 2.2.0 on my tablet and then it started behaving crazily . Whenever I open browser it will automatically start zooming in/out, scrolling. It will totally go haywire and will start clicking left/right.
I searched on net and found that some of other unlucky guys are facing the same issue . I have attached a .txt file that contains the link to you tube video depicting the problem.
I have tried many ways such as using superwipe script and then reinstalling the ROM's. Even, I have tried with new ROMS(ICS one's) that are there but still the problem does not seem to go away. I have searched a lot but could not find the solution to this issue. Can somebody please guide me how to get rid of this problem. I believe this is the best android forum where I am hoping that someone will help me with this problem.
This is really basic but have you tried cleaning the screen?
Other then that, have you tried going back to a HC rom and see if you don't have any issues. I understand you want the latest and greatest version rom but to determine a fix and narrow down the problem maybe you should try all the alternatives.
Thanks for replying. I had cleaned up my screen and there was not a single app/widget on my homescreens. I flashed back to HC ROM but still the problem persist . I have tried all ways of flashing th ROM's but still the problem doesn't seem to go away. I have not tried the stock ROM for HC that came with my tablet (i didn't take the backup when I flashed new ROM).
Looking at the issue it seems to me as if this problem is software related rather than the hardware. If this would have been hardware related then I should have got this on day1 of my purchase.

And dont forget to wash your hands (Im serious, that actually affects the responsiveness of the screen)
I cleaned my screen (Literally ). The problem is still there . Can it be because of the browser. I am currently using Dolphin HD browser for my browsing. I will probably install stock browser and will check with it.
Your text file is rubbish too...no link, it's actually the HTML code for an error 404..which is funny.......not only is it not a working link, or even a link at all, it's a 404 in HTML..LMAO
Sorry for the bad attachment. I have the link.doc containing the link.
Yesterday, I tried with the stock ROM and everything was working fine till the point I connected my tablet to Wifi and upgraded my Google Market to Play store. As soon as the app was updated the same problem started recurring. Now I have uninstalled the updates for google play store but the problem is still there. But the good part is that the frequency of the random zooming/clicking has decreased and it happens in browser only. Earlier it was happening in all the apps. Can somebody please direct me to the link to US stock ROM (for HC 3.2.1). As of now I am running WW_ stock rom. I just want to try out the same with US_ stock ROM as well.
First of all, don't use super wipe script. Just wipe normally with CWM.
Do these options in CWM
1. factory reset/wipe data
2. clear cache partition
3. wipe dalvik cache
4. mounts and storage -> format /system
5. mounts and storage -> format /data (this is done by factory reset but just to be sure)
Get the official ICS rom from Asus' website. US or WW doesn't matter.
Flash it with CWM after doing the wipe procedure above.
Don't let google sync or anything restore any kind of back up.
If the same problem happens again, you got a problem that requires RMA.
Honestly it already sounds like you need to RMA but you should make sure before wasting money and time on RMA.
I will try these steps today. I never did these 2 steps while flashing ROM's
1. clear cache partition
2. wipe dalvik cache
I am just curious to know as to how this problem started when it was not there till the point I flashed a custom ROM.
I have a big problem with RMA. I purchased my tablet in US and so it has North American Warranty. I am not residing in US. Thus for RMA, I have to ship my tablet back to US which will be expensive as well as an overhead . So I am planning of trying all the possible steps before I have to ask the Asus support in my native country. Please let me know if you know any stable version of Stock ROM. I read and found that some of the stock ROM's are having serious issues with Wifi/GPS etc.

YOU HAVE TO DO THOSE. Wipe dalvik cache is under Advanced.
I am using CWM 3.2.0.1 for recovery.
I am just hoping that it should be software/flashing issue.I just don't want to go for RMA .

i would first get on the newest version of recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16557195
it is touch based, but i just went into cwm and the regular method of volume and power keys work fine. AND you have to store the rom on the internal sd card in order to flash, it can't access the external card once you update.
and personally i'd wipe EVERYTHING like 3 times seems kinda of the standard.. i'm super ocd so i wipe it all 5 times before i flash.. might want to pick up an ASOP rom like
EOS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520764
or KANG:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542302
see how that works.. could always pick up the stock ASUS rom though
FYI: to flash those new EOS and KANG roms you NEED to be on that version of cwm i linked
I have tried with various ROM's that are there in Development section but the problem does not seem to go away. I will upgrade my CWM and will check with stock ROM first. Once this is done then I will go for other versions of ROM's.
Just a quick question, for flashing the stock ROM for ICS i.e 9.2.17, I have to download the firmware from ASUS website and then flash it normally the way we do for other ROM's ?

All this could have been caused by you never wiping cache and dalvik cache.
Yea, download the ICS firmware from Asus website. It will be in a zip. You extract it once. It will have another zip. That's the flashable zip.
You flash it in CWM like you would do for any other ROM.
Yes, I never wiped cache and dalvik cache.
I will check this today and will post my observations. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that this should solve the problem.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks horndroid for the lovely info...It worked.
I cleared the cache and dalvik cache and then I flashed the new revolution 3.2.0 (ICS) Rom and as of no complaints. I have been using the tablet continuously for last 3-4 hours and no issues as of now. I am hoping that it continues to work the way it is functioning right now. I am loving my transformer again . I will use it for few more hours and will update my observations. I am still keeping my fingers crossed.
Moreover, Revolution 3.2.0 is awesome(Thanks to Mike and his team). Very stable and the GPS is awesome. Sitting in my room it acquired my position(No Wifi) within seconds.

Yes. This is worth pointing out again and again.
Most roms (in my experience) wont even boot unless you wipe cache and dalvik.
And the roms that do boot runs like ****.
Now I have used my tablet for 16 hours..No issues..Running perfectly fine. I believe wiping cache has solved the issue.
I was reading about dalvik cache and came to know that during boot Android always create this cache (if it is not there). So if this problem comes again, can I wipe the cache and dalvik cache without flashing a new ROM. Is this advisable?
I was lucky enough to get one of the earlier batches (pre import ban) of the AT&T HTC One XLs and I have enjoyed having it over the past 5-6 weeks. A few weeks back I decided to root my phone and unlock it as I wasn't having any luck upgrading via the OTA update. I believe that soon afterwards I started having a problem installing some larger files and updates, getting a "Package file is invalid" message via Google Play.
At first this only seemed to happen occasionally but a few days back, it started occurring with practically any update or install. I tried cleaning the dalvik and other caches, factory reset, and wiped the SD card without any improvement. Yesterday I decided to make the leap and install CleanROM, both out of curiosity and a hope to resolve my problem. I wiped the system via the recovery bootloader, wiped the cache, wiped the dalvik cache, and wiped the SD card and installed CleanROM. While the install went well and CleanROM is running perfectly, I still get the package invalid method with any install larger than 1mb or so. I am frustrated about this problem as I have enjoyed this phone up to this point. If anyone have any suggestions to resolve this repeated error I would be very grateful. Thanks.
I think you followed almost all the step. But i think there is a issue on your network connection. Try to download new apps over the WiFi. I think you can't use any other mobile network ( i think you have network locked phone).
also check theses things. http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2011/12/fix-android-package-file-is-invalid.html
Follow-up on suggestion

Thanks for the suggestion but it turns out exactly the opposite is true. I have been trying to install programs over wifi and they keep failing with the invalid package file message. After reading your suggestion, I turned off the wifi and tried installing several larger programs via the mobile network - they all downloaded and installed without a hitch! Crazy.
So, it looks like my problem might have something more to do with either my wifi network/router or with some aspect of the wifi hardware or software on my phone. Tomorrow I am going to try accessing and installing files from a different network and will post my results then.
I have recently installed DhdSation Rom v3.1 on my dhd. i found a problem that the touchwiz launcher in it get crash when you open call logs and even when you open messages and sometimes the back button gets hanged. I have not seen any other users with the same issue. It seems very possible that something went wrong during the install. First of all, verify the MD5SUM of the ROM you downloaded to make sure it is not corrupt. If it is, redownload it, then wipe and reflash.
Did you wipe data & system before installing the ROM? While you do not need to wipe the sdcard portion of data, everything else needs to wiped when changing ROMS or major Android versions. Make sure you did this, if not try reflashing after a proper wipe.
Have you flashed anything else after the wipe, such as a kernel? If so try wiping then reflashing the ROM without anything extra.

While you might not have seen an error message, something could have still gone wrong. As a programmer myself, I can attest that it is impossible to detect every error. A zany example: solar flares can cause errors, corrupt data, and even crash applications in spectacular ways.
Definitely start with the MD5 check as that is a fairly common issue. Just today I had one fail to match up. If it matches, reflash, if not redownload then reflash.

Thanks mate for your help.
i have solved the problem.
I was tinkering with my TF101 and sort of accidentally (lol) overwrote my installation of Timduru's KatKiss-4.3.1_029.zip with his KatKiss-4.4.2_016.zip without wiping anything before doing so. (Actually didn't have any data to speak of - as I formatted and wiped in proper fashion on the install of KatKiss-4.3.1_029), and it hadn't been run for more than a couple of days.
I've developed a severe addition to ROM experimentation, and so may install and backup every few days it seems. Don't have a nickname for that habit yet, but I sense that they are many similar addicts around this site.
What I would like to know, since all seems, at least to this n00b, to be just fine - what "might" happen w/ my TF101 since the overwrite of a newer ROM?
Staying put, until I hear from a forum guru, or at least anyone with more experience than me (and that will include most all members).
Thanks,
Cal
If you overwrite a ROM with a different one (different android version, or by a different developer) you may run into issues where it will not boot, or it may run poorly, random reboots, sleep o death.
When changing ROMs it is HIGHLY recommended to wipe the system, caches and the data partition (wiping data is not the same as FORMAT DATA in TWRP). There are some system settings stored in the /data/ partition that may conflict with different ROMs.
Most of TimDuru's KatKiss ROMs you can forward flash (even to new versions of Android) but you CANNOT go backwards. I flashed from 4.2.2 to 4.3 without wiping data and had no issues. However, if you tried to flash from 4.3 to 4.2.2 without wiping data, it will not boot until you wipe the data partition.
I have not tried this with the 4.4 version of his ROM (I am still on 4.3 for now.)
Oh, and yes, the addiction is called CrackFlashing.
Always ALWAYS make a backup in TWRP before flashing a new ROM or even an upgrade to the current ROM. If you want to go back to 4.3, make a backup and then use Titanium Backup Pro version to extract any apps and data from the 4.4 version and restore to 4.3. Do not restore any system settings or apps.

Ahh...then the addiction is obviously not curable unless one destroys the tablet, BUT the new ROM may be just fine as is, I take it. That was what I was hoping to hear.
Thanks, and any idea when a new experimental ROM will come from Tim? Just felt a slight twitch. I've tried the other team's creations and seem to only feel really satisfied with Kits - (guess 'CrackFlashing' addiction picks a really hard one to withdraw from).
Many thanks!

I think it will be a while until timduru starts to work in a experimental rom , since there is no Android 5 yet.
But Tim has marked katkiss as stable and for my daily use it is. But you could try 4.4.2.

Ah-Ha! I see that Tim's put up a new 'stable' one. KK 4.4.2_17! Yeah!! This should be a super easy fix for the 'crack-itis' I have developed...as I will overwrite this one also.
Hi everyone.
Let's start from the beginning, and by advance excuse me for my poor English : I happen to be a delighted owner of the Oneplus One by the Oneplus company. I've flashed different versions of cyanogen on my phone, rooted it multiple times and I never encountered any kind of problems. Thus, until I decide yesterday to flash the latest release of cyanogen, cm13 (nightly). I did some researches, followed the usual steps, flashed the right opengapps version along with cm13 and.. everything went great. Except that my phone couldn't resolve himself to detect my SIM card anymore. I tried different things in order to solve the problem, including re-wipe the phone "factory reset" style, removing SIM card, wait for the phone to cool down and played with data roaming, but nothing worked. Fortunately I had my fresh nandroid backup waiting to be restored. That's when the real deal start :
even after having restored the full nandroid backup (which make me downgrade to cm12.1), the SIM card wasn't detected.
So I decided to wipe data, dalvik, cache and system, in order to get my phone back to its original state. But the problem remains, and worst of all, the phone now tends to reboot punctually without any reasons.
I surely did something wrong for the phone to end in this state, but I can't see what..
I use TWRP 2.8.7.0 custom recovery, and the phone OS is now cm12.1-YOG4PAS3JL.
Oneplus One 64GB.
Sorry for the length of the complaint, and by advance thanks for your answers.
P.S : I did tried to search for similar threads in the forum, but I didn't manage to found anything that was directly related.
It could be an issue with the modem not being flashed properly when you went from Lollipop to Marshmallow due to TWRP 2.8.7.0. Try TWRP 2.8.6.0, and then either restore the nandroid backup or clean wipe + reflash CM13 nightly.

Thanks a lot for your response. I've been searching a lot and the problem effectively seems to be the modem not being flashed properly. So I tried to flash it manually, (found the file 2 threads higher, sorry I can't post links yet) via fastboot and then flashing cm13 (with twrp 2.8.6.0), considering the fact it seems to have worked for others.
But no matter what I do, the issue remains : the phone isn't able to detect SIM card and goes into crash, rebooting every 2mn..
I've tried to flash cm13 unnoficial version by sultan, following his instructions, but no improvement either.
Even my nandroid backup (running cm 12.1) can't detect SIM anymore, have serious wifi connectivity issues, and keeps rebooting randomly at very reguliar intervals..
I'm really beggining to feel hopeless,
but thanks again for your time and your advices, really apreciate it.
It seems that I have same problem..... after flashing CM13 and restoring backup
Any progress with this problem?
Edit - If my phone is connected into PC with USB cable it doesnt restarts

Same for me, the phone stops crashing and rebooting randomly once connected to pc via USB cable. But still doesn't recognize SIM card. Wifi also seems to work better.
No further progress unfortunately, I've tried everything, from restoring the phone to its factory state to flashing all "stable" roms (cyanogen), nothing worked.

Already saw it, but thanks ^^ that's where i found my file modemst.bin
so did it work for you ?
The same thing happened to me last week. I was using Materialized TWRP 2.8.7.0, which I think caused issues with my updating of Sultanxda's 13.1 ROM. SIM card was never detected, phone would restart shortly after every boot. I tried everything I could find to get my baseband and IMEI back.
In the end, only this solution worked for me, and I had to do it twice. I don't know why.
I had the same problem. I got back to TWRP 2.8.6.0 and then flashed the latest CM13(wiped System). after that without wipe i flashed sultans's CM13 then gapps and got the sim working again.

I've tried multiple times, it doesn't work. SIM card is not recognized, phones goes to reboot after 30s of use.
Whatever rom I flash the problem ain't solved, even after factory reset from original OS (cm 12.1)..
I really begin to think there is no solution, I've tried to flash my phone at least 20 times with different roms, fix, firmwares, modem, everything that is available on the net and I couldn't notice even the slightest change in the comportment of my phone.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your proposal, I guess it HAVE to work, but for some irrational reason it doesn't...

Did U flash over TWRP or ADB?
Just popping in to say I have the same problem. I'm trying the various solutions presented in the thread and I'll come back and report if anything worked. I would also appreciate any other suggestions that you may have
For the record, I got into this predicament through the following steps:
1. I was flashing some CM nightly (sorry, I don't remember which one), and after reboot the touch screen didn't work anymore
2. I flashed the OxygenOs .zip that I had saved on internal storage through TWRP
3. After flash touch screen worked but no sim detected
4. Flashed CM 12.1 still no sim
5. Flashed back to OxyOs, still no sim. Curiously I am unable to reboot via software.
Anyway, I basically have all weekend to work on this, so awayyyy we go!

<Edit>
Wow that was fast. I followed this guy's instructions (fastboot flashing modemst, then CM12.1) and it seems to be working like a charm! Good luck everybody else!

I flashed via TWRP(2.6.8.0) and via ADB for modemst1.bin and modemst2.bin.
By the way, there's a little improvement : I flashed kalkulin's_stock_OPO Rom and that stopped my phone from rebooting.
Now cm13 is running kinda fine, except it still doesn't detect SIM card, even after reflashing modemst1 and modemst2
Edit : When I try to flash oxygenos, oneplus fix or cm12.1, (roms that are supposed to fix sim detection problem), it doesn't work : Error flashing Zip file. via adb or twrp, that's the same. (excepting the fact that error in adb is about trustzone)
I think my efs partition is somehow corrupt, and unfortunately i have no way to restore it.

Thanks for the link. I tried to flash the zip, but twrp(2.8.6.0) gave me an error : Error flashing ONEPLUS+ONE-FIX-Windows.zip

It's not supposed to be flashed. Unzip the archive on a Windows PC, then use the .bat files in there to fix your phone.

Effectively, I kinda did things completely wrong there, sorry. (I'm an exclusive linux user for my defense ^^)
Okay guys, I finally solved my problems.
Here's what I did to fix reboot crashes and SIM detection issues :
-Flash TWRP(2.8.6.0)
-Wipe everything except internal storage
-Flash Calkulin's_Stock_OPO_XNPH44S_ROM_v1.0.zip (can't post links yet, sorry)
-Boot system
-Once done, reboot to bootloader (in command prompt : sudo adb reboot bootloader)
-In command prompt, type the following commands (It will delete modem and /persist partition ! be careful) :
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot erase persist
-If you need to fix "Unable to mount /persist" error in TWRP :
adb shell
make_ext4fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p15
-Flash Oxygen OS (i flashed oxygen_1.0.0_flashable.zip)
That should restore EFS and fix the issues.
Well, that was kind off a pain in the ass, but now my problem is solved, and i'm currently running cm13 quite fine.
Make a backup of your EFS partition.
Thanks to all the people that helped me by posting in this thread !
It's a nightly build, it bound to have some problems.
i am having bootloop issue, tried many roms, erased partition too, still no use. continuous bootloops
