I have not seen any other users with the same issue. It seems very possible that something went wrong during the install. First of all, verify the MD5SUM of the ROM you downloaded to make sure it is not corrupt. If it is, redownload it, then wipe and reflash.
Did you wipe data & system before installing the ROM? While you do not need to wipe the sdcard portion of data, everything else needs to wiped when changing ROMS or major Android versions. Make sure you did this, if not try reflashing after a proper wipe.
Have you flashed anything else after the wipe, such as a kernel? If so try wiping then reflashing the ROM without anything extra.

While you might not have seen an error message, something could have still gone wrong. As a programmer myself, I can attest that it is impossible to detect every error. A zany example: solar flares can cause errors, corrupt data, and even crash applications in spectacular ways.
Definitely start with the MD5 check as that is a fairly common issue. Just today I had one fail to match up. If it matches, reflash, if not redownload then reflash.

Ok so I have Vahalla Final flashed through Odin as my first ROM on this phone. Everything has been great for a few days and I flashed the lighting tweak today with no issues. Just a little while ago I made a backup and flashed the Linda voices and the Ki3 modem bc I saw where the KJ6 didn't allow long text messages. When I flashed the modem some blue words popped up really zoomed in on another screen then it was done. The phone was laggy so i tried to delete everything and restore like I had done numerous times on old phone.
I did a factory reset then cache then tried to format system. These are all steps i used to successfully take on other phone. It won't let me format the system though. Says: "format_volume failed to mount "/system" error formatting system!"
Where did I go wrong? Am I supposed to do some more wacky things on this phone for a restore? Everything else on it seems to take 20 more steps

CWM versions prior to those in bhndven's Slightly Modified Stock kernels have a problem with mounting/unmouting the /system partition in GB. I believe you can backup and restore user data, but nothing on the /system partition.
Flashing the KI3 modem shouldn't have had an effect like you're describing, though. I can't say I've had an issue like that at all or heard of people having that issue after flashing the modem.

So everything should run fine after trying the actual restore of my backup even though i couldn't format the system? I have a backup but don't want to restore over data that wasn't deleted or whatever. If that's possible.
How the hell do i know which modem to use anyways? There's like 10 to choose from
Uh yeah I forget it tries to format system anyways when restoring... and it couldn't. So what do i do? Re-flash the GB starter pack way through Odin?

As for the modem, I'm using KI3 on mine. You already did a factory reset so you should be able to just re-flash Valhalla.
Trying now. Does Vahalla automatically change all the mounts that the other roms require changing before flashing?

No worries. Good luck
Hey I still have an issue. I reflashed Vahalla through CWM and it was fine at first all the way through setting everything up like it was before. Ran smooth. I went to the market this morning and checked for updates and Google Search, Maps and Superuser updated. Phone started acting really laggy again. Scrolls really slow, pulls up GO Launcher menu slowly, etc.
It seems to me that the re flash installed over the existing data that was left on the phone since i couldn't format my system.
My new question is, what's the best way to re do everything including formatting the system if I can't format through CWM? If I flash through Odin does that format everything? Or am I better of just going through the whole GB Starter Pack process again?? Or will that even work now since i've already done it?

If you flashed and "it was fine at first all the way through setting everything up"...
try reflashing as you did before. Do fresh installs on as much as you can ONE AT A TIME. And then restore ONE AT A TIME what you can't do fresh installs on. It sounds like one of your backups is not agreeing with the system. Install/Restore ONE AT A TIME and play with phone between each to see if you can determine which backup your system is not agreeing with.
Did that make sense??
EDIT: And make sure to wipe dalvik cache and cache partition before you reflash as is always recommended.

Yeah it makes sense thanks. I will do this despite how impatient I am (see where that got me). I'm just got spoiled on another phone that was way way easier to work with. Weren't as many options to screw up either.
Any suggestions on how I can get my system to format for future reference?
I feel like it's Go Launcher for some reason. In cased you missed it though, I didn't start having lag issues until I flashed the Ki3 modem and linda voices one after another. I have a good backup but I can't format system to restore it.

I have never formatted my system nor read anybody wanting/needing to format their system. A factory reset is what people use to clean the gremlins along with wiping dalvik cache and cache partition. Bhundven has recommended flashing the same rom twice in a row I believe to help make sure all installs correctly (I think he was talking about bootloaders when he recommended that).
But a factory reset is what I think you are trying to accomplish with formatting your system.

I use GoLauncher on Vahalla Black with no problems. I think it has to do with your backup... not the app itself.
I wiped caches, did factory reset, tired to format system again with no luck and accidentally restarted before re-flashing Vahalla. Which, I guess I didn't really need to do anyways if it's an App causing the issue. I guess the factory reset would be enough. Smooth again so i will try some fresh reinstalls now. Thanks for the noob patience

Ok cool. In another phones forum a system wipe is actually suggested a lot. I think... I did it every time on the G2x before installing any new roms or backups. I wasn't doing it at first but started after someone suggested it. But yeah I think the factoy reset is enough. Seems to be enough so far.

I was having this issue where I couldn't make calls or get my contacts to come up without seeing
Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped
keep crashing. I finally decided it was best to RUU the 1.85 image and start from scratch. Well that didn't solve the problem! Any ideas what is going on? I can't bring up my contacts, make phone calls, and my google acct won't sync contacts. Any ideas anyone?

Your Android device (tablet, phone, Android TV) gives you the following message.
“The process android.process.acore has stopped working.”
The solution:
Settings –> Applications –> Manage Applications –> All (button on the top that lets you see all applications) –> scroll down to “Contacts Storage” –> Click on “Clear Data”.
This worked on my Android TV and I have seen reports of it working on other Android devices.

i tried all that already. clearing all the data off apps. factory wipes, master resets. ran out of ideas to try.
I am in the same boat right now. Was having some different issues so I decided to RUU 1.85 and then rooted and unlocked. After installing cleanrom, I start getting phone, contacts, and messages to start crash with no error message. After a while it started giving android.process.acore errors. I've tried:
-Factory wipe, cache and dalvik wipe
-Re-flashing the ROM
-Flashing a different ROM
-clearing app data for contacts, Google framework services, etc.
-fixing permissions
All with no fix. Next step for me was RUU again, but it sounds like that won't do it. Any thoughts out there would be appreciated.

this happened when i first installed clean rom 4.0. I immediately re-installed 4.0 and it fixed it. strange... I see some devs say you must wipe 3 times before installing any rom. its worth a try. Also maybe use a different recovery than you have been using. most important thing is to re-download the rom and check the MD5. dude the other day downloaded the rom 6 times with different MD5 before he got a good download. If that is the case, check the memory on your computer as well as hard drive. either of those bad could be corrupting the download. Good luck.

Verified the MD5 on the ROM, all checked out there. I'm re-downloading the RUU from a different mirror, so we'll see how that goes. May give switching recoveries a try in the meantime.
Well I was able to get mine to work. I switched back to CWM from TWRP, wiped and installed CleanROM (had Nocturnal running). After the wipe and then flash of CleanROM, I was shocked to see the Nocturnal boot animation. I figured something had gone screwy, and I wiped 5 times in recovery, and then installed CleanROM on top of itself 2 extra times. Rebooted and now all is working again. Not sure what the main issue was from the beginning, but hope this helps you out a little OP. Maybe run RUU again?

Thanks for this post. Had the exact same issue. Reverted to the 1.85 RUU and still had it. CWM + Flashing a rom a couple of times and wiping multiple times did the trick.
Glad to be of help. I was stressing over this issue for about 2 days myself. Good to hear it helped someone else too.

I have a strange issue with my samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket AT&T, it keeps on rebooting every one or two minutes, by itself.
I have been busy with this for two days without success, I tried the following:
- unstalling apps: not working, after any reboot (automatic or manual) the apps reappear again.
- using Odin to install another rom. Not working, even after a green success signal in Odin, the phone reboots and nothing has changed. All (many) apps that I installed still are present, the same settings etc, everything is the same. I tried to install different ROMS with Odin, without any effect.
- deleting all folders and files when the phone is plugged in the pc,...after phone reboot all folders and files re-appear again, nothing changed.
Assistance with this issue is very welcome.
Thank you
I've seen this issue before with it rebooting because of a stuck power button. Not sure if that would be the culprit in your situation or not. Especially with folders re-appearing and what not.

Had the issue before. Never pinpointed the exact cause, but I moved all my pics/music/crap I wanted to keep to my external and went ape chyt on wiping. Formatted internal via the comp, then went into mounts & wiped everything! Fresh install & only reinstalled apps (no data) with titanium. Been smooth sailing since.

The workaround in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704646 is too complicated for me. I'm not a programmer, just a regular user that knows how to use Odin and install a custom ROM, but that's it. I guess I have to return it under warranty by AT&T
Although I would like to erase everything (i got a backup). At the moment all data, apps, email and phone numbers are visible when booting up (at least for 1 or two minutes before it reboots by itself) and I don't like them at ATT checking that out.

try mount the sdcard, flash a tar file from another phone or a zip file from another phone like the i777, i know that it didnt write to the nand before but you never know. or learn how to use adb, maybe it can delete stuff, but i never used it so cant help u there.
u can also try to short out the usb port by touch wires inside the port as it may fry something up in the phone so it cant turn on

I've gone through all that, factory reset, uninstalling apps etc..nothing works since after the auto reboot all changes appear to have no effect. I.e. new pictures taken are not stored after the reboot. I'm stuck with all settings and files of one particular time a week ago, that keeps on reappearing. As far as I understand this is a corrupt partition issue. But thanks for replying anyway..this issue doesn't seem to happen very often.
Hey guys, i'm posting here because I have a huge issue with my phone.
I think I have an idea of what caused my phone to go haywire, but i'm gonna post my phone specs:
Red Nexus 5 32gb
Rooted
Franco Kernel
4.4.2 (however, I think it may have somehow updated to 4.4.3 OTA somehow, which may be the root of the problems)
TWRP
Nandroid backup but done once i've been experiencing these problems
-The phone boots up normally and then abrubtly freezes.
-The dialogue "Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped."
-I press ok, the screen turns black
-"Unfortunately, Update Device has stopped"
-I press ok, shortly after, both prompts pop up again repeatedly.
I literally have no way to get to the home menu, even using Safe Mode.
My main priority is to at least recover my SMS files. And obviously fix my phone..

reflash your rom, or flash another rom. if using stock, you can reflash the factory img or find a rooted stock rom. anyways, you DO want to update to 444, as many bugs have been fixed from 442 to 444. if yoy dont want to lose any data, grab a stock rooted rom and flash it dirty, as in dont wipe a single thing. and your phone can not update itself, only you can let it update. and with you using franco kernel, it can not flash an ota, you would have to do it manually.

well, theres no such thing. as most everyone will tell you the proper way is to clean flash, you wont find a dirty flashing thread. regardless, im known for my dirty flashing of everything. generally, what you do to dirty flash is make a backup in recovery first, then just flash what you need to flash, without wiping anything. the thing about dirty flashing is that you dont lose any data(while clean flashing you do).
where the sms files are stored, i have no idea. have you checked if your sms app created a file?

right. adb push it to your phone, then flash it in twrp. if the dirty flash doesnt work out(chances are that it will) then you would have to wipe data(factory reset) and reflash.

because most follow older "proper" ways to flash software. and the proper way to flash, and to make sure all is working as should, is to clean flash. dirty flashing can cause issues, but its issues that are usually fixable. the problem is that most dont know that, or how to fix. 99.99% of issues caused by dirty flashing are caused by corrupt or incompatible data. where a data clearing for that particular app will usually fix. anyways, roms based on the same sourcw, and not far from what you are running, you can dirty flash. roms that have a different base than what you are running, you should factory reset first.
Dirty flashing has the potential of causing conflicts and issues. Of course it is not so bad if you back up your data. One problem though, is you might use your phone for a few weeks before the issues show up, then suddenly you are unable to backup data. So you lost a week or two of stuff.
By the way, I often dirty flash when I run into issues. After that though, it is a good idea to back everything up, wipe, and reflash everything. Limits potential issues arising and also causes of said issues.

By the way, I often dirty flash when I run into issues. After that though, it is a good idea to back everything up, wipe, and reflash everything. Limits potential issues arising and also causes of said issues.

issues from dirty flashing do not appear weeks later, dirty flashing issues show up right away. all dirty flashing issues are caused by data, whether corrupt or incompatible. other issues are blamed on dirty flashes, but arent the real cause. issues like app fc's are the most common, and very fixable. the only issues that arent fixable are when you dirtt flash two completely different roms that are based on different sources, or different android versions. i have dirty flashed every single thing ive flashed onto my n5, since december, no issues. the only issue i had dirty flashing my n5 was dirty flashing L over rastakat. and the issue was minor. everything worked great except the status bar didnt go down all the way. why did it mess uo? because of incompatible data from rastakat with the new status bar code in L.
You are correct Simms, but it must be noted that you dirty flash the same version, for dirty flash to work. If just updating a rom it is usually fine, but if they have made a major change then it is not.
Have no tales to tell of my N5, but my Samcrap S3 (cracked the screen and she died, then I bought this bad boy ) had issues that would appear later. Maybe due to the dirty flash. Who knows, that is why I mentioned a clean flash rules that out.
Anyway, backing up everything leads to a carefree life!
Hi bro, i need some help here, suddenly my GT2 (GSM) will auto reboot after every 15-60 minute. It was running fine for the past 10 month since have install cyanogenmod cm-10.1.3.
The weird part is, not only it reboot, it will do a rollback to a fix setting every time it reboot.
- Let say, as a normal you have many application install, many photo or file in your phone
How it happen, as a normal user, I went to uninstall any application via application manager or Delete some photo from my gallery. It show success deleted..... but soon after few minute my phone rebooted by itself. After this reboot i notice what i just delete/remove come back again. Seems like there is a restore being done.
I also try to reset to setting using phone manager, and it fail
I try to boot in to recover mode, such as
clear data/factory reset
clear cache
go to advanced>wipr dalvic
Install cyanogenmod cm-10.1.3, cyanogenmod cm-10.1.2 or even cyanogenmod cm-10.1.1
I have try clear data/factory reset, clear cache, go to advanced>wipr dalvic
or any other combine setting i can think of.... it fail too
once i reboot my phone, it still went back to this Fix Setting, every thing just come back.....
even i select install new OS
Any ideas what happen?
Thanks

Read about these issues from various thread, this is happened due to broken emmc. The only step will have to replace it.
If someone can developed a kernel to prevent this issue which is happen to omap4 device
Unfortunately most kernel, maybe all current kernel, did not apply this.

So this is due to broken emmc, and i need to ask someone to replace it at some cost
is there a way to check the issue is emmc or just some software/firmware/rom issue
Till now, my phone still stay the same, it will reboot after sometime. I even try to flash it with other ROMS and even update my phone with the latest CWM or PhilZ, i even get the message of update success/status ok. But after a reboot, my phone still went back/revert to that same "OLD" setting with every thing still there. Restore to factory still fail, look like my phone is as good as a brick phone...
Anyone know of a way to resolve it?
