[Q] "Package file is invalid" error on stock ROM & CleanROM Stand 3.0 - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I was lucky enough to get one of the earlier batches (pre import ban) of the AT&T HTC One XLs and I have enjoyed having it over the past 5-6 weeks. A few weeks back I decided to root my phone and unlock it as I wasn't having any luck upgrading via the OTA update. I believe that soon afterwards I started having a problem installing some larger files and updates, getting a "Package file is invalid" message via Google Play.
At first this only seemed to happen occasionally but a few days back, it started occurring with practically any update or install. I tried cleaning the dalvik and other caches, factory reset, and wiped the SD card without any improvement. Yesterday I decided to make the leap and install CleanROM, both out of curiosity and a hope to resolve my problem. I wiped the system via the recovery bootloader, wiped the cache, wiped the dalvik cache, and wiped the SD card and installed CleanROM. While the install went well and CleanROM is running perfectly, I still get the package invalid method with any install larger than 1mb or so. I am frustrated about this problem as I have enjoyed this phone up to this point. If anyone have any suggestions to resolve this repeated error I would be very grateful. Thanks.

I think you followed almost all the step. But i think there is a issue on your network connection. Try to download new apps over the WiFi. I think you can't use any other mobile network ( i think you have network locked phone).
also check theses things. http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2011/12/fix-android-package-file-is-invalid.html

Thanks for the suggestion but it turns out exactly the opposite is true. I have been trying to install programs over wifi and they keep failing with the invalid package file message. After reading your suggestion, I turned off the wifi and tried installing several larger programs via the mobile network - they all downloaded and installed without a hitch! Crazy.
So, it looks like my problem might have something more to do with either my wifi network/router or with some aspect of the wifi hardware or software on my phone. Tomorrow I am going to try accessing and installing files from a different network and will post my results then.

Problems after getting back to stock ROM from CM7

Hi,
I'va had CM7 a10 flashed on my Sensation for a few days. A couple of days ago I've decided to get back to Stock ROM, and then the problems started. Before installing CM7 everything was fine. After restoring my backup from before flashing CM7 weird things started to happen (apps dissapearing, settings changing on their own, hangs, and other stuff). So I've done a SuperWipe a few times, and flashed a completely new Stock ROM via USB using: RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.50.401.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_223042_signed file. Then I've done a few factory resets, just in case. But still weird things are happening (eg. now I have a clean phone - once again - and trying to setup the sync options and the options app hangs everytime. and installing something from market is like praying for a miracle). I've tried doing factory reset, clear cache/dalvik (but with dalvik CWM recovery says that the partition or files wasn't found). Don't know what to do. Does anyone have any ideas ?? Please help. Phone worked fine before, and after CM7 everything is f*cked up
Wierd, looks like you've tried everything I could think of while reading the post.
Do you still have a nandroid backup of CM7, if so does that work if you restore ?
Can you use ADB to get to the phone ? If so you could check some things from there.
When you installed the RUU from the PC, did it install without errors ? Presumably you had to re-install CWM after that.
CM7 nand backup works fine after restore.
I can use ADB to comunicate with the phone.
No errors while updating RUU.exe / CWM recovery flashed without problems also after that.
I think that there's something screwed up with the file permissions.
I've downloaded and installed about 20 apps since the last HR, and now I have about 40 apps more queued in Market, and as before the downloads are stuck every 1-2 apps. Then I have to restart to CWM recovery and run fix permissions. After that another 1-2 apps will download and get stuck again, and so on...
Anyone has any ideas what the hell is going on ? Because my I'm getting more then irritated by this, and beggining to think that the best solution will be to send my phone flying through the window.
A few questions first.
What country are you in?
Who is your carrier?
What version did your phone originally come with? I believe 1.5xxxxx RUU was released recently, but I could be wrong.
Did you ever change your CID?
Have you ever flashed a new radio and RIL?
Did you copy all of the data from your SD card to your computer, then format your SD card using the phone?
Answer these questions and try the SD card thing, then report back. I may be able to help.
Poland.
T-Mobile (Sensation) / Play Mobile (Gio)
Don't remeber what version my Sensation originally came with - I have a 1.50.401.1 RUU that I'm flashing with currently.
Yes, I've changed CID to 11111111 some time ago, but I'm back to original HTC__001 now.
No I haven't changed my radio or RIL.
I've tried formatting the SD card using the phone, my laptop, my linux NAS, my other phones.
The weird thing is that yesterday all of this was progressing. It came to a point that after a factory reset or even a whole ROM reflash nothing would install (not even Market update). And this also started to happen on my Samsung Gio. So after very very very frustrating evening, and part of the night I gave up. And in the morning it was still the same (on both my android phones). But now things are starting to work (updates/installs). So I think I'm going to blame the whole thing on Google and Market. I'll see what happens while I'll install all my apps in the next few hours.
Still have to restart the phone every 1-3 apps installed. This is driving me crazy

[ROM] SKYICS 4.2E-7 (ULCE2) 5/24/12: N00b Questions

I'm fairly new to ROMs (this is my second). I have followed the instructions and successfully installed the ROM, modem, and update.
2 questions:
1) Wifi does not work (will not turn on). I had wifi problems on my last ROM. I have reinstalled this ROM numerous times today thinking something must have failed since wifi does not work. This seems to be unique to me since I can't find anything in the thread regarding wifi problems. Any suggestions?
I've gone so far as to use darkside superwipe as suggested in a different thread. Still can't get wifi to turn on (just sits with "Turning Wi-Fi on..." message on screen). Never errors out, just stays like that.
2) ROM Manager: Fix permissions fails. I get the following error when I select fix permissions: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" Any suggestions?
Thanks so much for the help!
You should post your question in the ROM thread. The developer (seanscreamz) or one of the other testers will see it and be able to address your problem and help you out.
I can't post in the Dev section yet. 6 more posts and I will ask there.
starting over...
Ok, I figured I might as well make sure that my wifi woes are not a hardware issue. I've reverted back to stock Skyrocket OS to make sure wifi is available and working in stock form.
Following this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348, I reverted to stock and I can confirm that wifi works in stock form.
I've also reformatted my sd card in case there is any chance a corruption on it would cause my problems.
Now going to reinstall SkyICS...

Are you on CWM touch?
have you went into the busybox app and clicked install?
wifi broken again
I have followed these instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582 to regain root. After getting root, I installed ROM Manager and selected "Fix Permissions". On reboot, I lost the ability to connect via wifi.
Did I miss a step?

john: I'm sure you mean well, but I don't know what your intent was with your posted link.
crazyD: digging your avatar. I'm currently trying to decide between a G26 and XD9sc...
btw, installed and ran busybox. not sure what it did for me. I also updated ROM manager to latest. Accidentally initiated a backup from ROM manager. Will see if wifi is back after that has completed.
Edit: wifi still errors, won't connect. I'm not clear what steps I may have missed or screwed up between being stock to rooted. I will revert back to stock again and try again...
Are you running juice defender? Its giving me problems with my wifi connection!

I'm not running Juice Defender. At this point, I'm trying to revert back to stock form again with working wifi.
Edit: ok, reverted back to stock by doing the following
1) reboot into CWM recovery
2) factory reset x3
3) clear cache x3
4) format system x3
5) clear dalvik x3
6) format emmc x3
7) restart and pull battery
8) boot into download mode
9) push stock tar (k0kane) via Odin3 v1.85
I now have wifi again!
So now I get to try to get back to SU and CWM without losing wifi...wish me luck.
still have wifi!
OK, rooted and CWM installed. I still have wifi, which is good. I'm afraid to select 'Fix Permissions' for fear that will break my wifi.
I'm going to install Sky ICS now and see what happens.
sky ics and wifi!
OK, It took a few attempts, but I now have SKY ICS installed and wifi is still working.
I've installed the base ROM and the modem...not the updated yet. My download speeds are terrible, but at least I have wifi. I think the data speeds get better on the update.
Sean's instructions say to let the phone "cache and settle". I have no idea what that means...so will try to wait 10 minutes or so before installing the update.

My uneducated guess with the data speeds is the modem for UCLE2. I haven't had the chance to go to LTE on SKYICS yet, but data is definitely slower on "4g" networks.

quick update
Here is a quick update:
I spent some time redownloading all my apps and in general setting up the phone. I then ran the SKY-ICS update. Everything seemed to be working great.
As an added bonus, the email app in SKY-ICS syncs with my employer's exchange server! Which is so awesome. The stock ROM, and the last gingerbread ROM I had on the Skyrocket would not connect to our exchange server. I was very pleasantly surprised by that functionality.
I then lost wifi again. Wifi seems to be unpredictable and I'm not sure if it is hardware or software related. I again have wifi this morning, but didn't for the last two days. Also, my phone won't restart, it appears to get stuck in a powerdown state. The haptic buttons stay lit, but the screen is blank. I have to pull the battery to get it to restart.
But overall, I'm very happy with the performance and functionality of SKY-ICS. I will do some digging on the restart problem.

AT&T 1.82.502 [Wi-Fi Fix!]

Just had to let it be known. After trying this RUU several times trying to get the wifi to work. I finally figured out why it was not working. I did the following:
Download the RUU.
Install the RUU on you computer.
Run the RUU and allow your phone to reset itself.
Once up and running do a "FACTORY RESET" and erase "EVERYTHING" from your storage card...pics and all data.
If you don't your card will store information about the old wifi settings for some reason and the fix won't work.
So if you don't mind loosing all of you pics and data this fix does work.
I just transferd all of my pics to my computer and did a complete wipe of the sd card after installing the RUU.
So do master reset and click the option that says "erase all pics and data from card" that date that its removing is old data about your old wife settings that stay on the card even after installing the RUU for some reason.
This worked for me and now I have all five bars of wifi even as far out as the garage of my house.
You posted it like your posting the download link to the firmware..
Either way, Shouldn't this be in the general section since it's not really anything developed/programmed? Not gunna try it. Seeing as my phone works fine since I sit next to my router.
Or you could root, wipe, and re-flash,, and no workarounds don't belong in DEV. This basically says deleted your SD card,, but fact of the matter is, pictures and whatnot have nothing to do with this (if it's even a fix or issue). If it's there it's in another folder so it's a bad work around at that.
I also had problems with my wifi after the update, but I did a hard reset and it seems to have fixed it. Knock on wood... Sucks to hard reset but it seem to be working.

[Q] Switching Wi-Fi on then off kills mobile data

I have recently had this problem start happening to my phone out of nowhere. I am with T-Mobile, have an HTC Sensation and am currently running Paranoid Android. When I realized I couldn't get data to come back on I tried to revert to a back up that worked perfectly. After restoring the backup the problem still persists. When I do a factory data reset and fresh ROM install the data works fine until I connect to Wi-Fi. When I turn Wi-Fi back off the little H above the cell signal bars will blink every 5 seconds but never fully establish a connection. This is happening no matter what settings and no matter what rom I run. I am completely stumped at this point. Can anyone please help me out? I would provide a log cat but not sure if its possible with a mac? Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide me with useful information.

Have you tried upgrading to version 17? I would make sure and do a full wipe then install version 17 and see if problem still persists. I'm also running paranoid Android and never had any problems except once when I flashed over an update without wiping, I was having data issues then. Once I did a full wipe my data restored perfectly. I'd give this a try and see how it goes. I know I have this same problem with cm roms but never with paranoid Android. Give it a try with FULL wipe and see if issue is gone. Best wishes

I tried Dragonkors full wipe script followed by flashing v17 this morning, and this same issue is still happening. This happens on my phone no matter what ROM I use, and after full wipe every time. Is there some settings stored on my sd card that I could try to reset to make the switching from Wi-Fi to high speed data network work again? I don't think this is a ROM problem since its happening on all ROM's. Its not how I'm flashing ROM's either as I have been doing so since the Sensation came out. I don't know what is left to troubleshoot this problem, and am kind of out of ideas. I hope a developer on here sees this post, and can make sense of the situation as I cannot.

I have completely formatted the sd card, re-downloaded V17, placed on blank sd card, formatted all partitions except sd card, installed V17.
Still have same problem
I think the problem is narrowed down to faulty sim card, something on T-mobiles end, or a hardware problem??
Anyone got any other advice?

I was experiencing this issue on paranoid android also. My mobile data stopped working on v.16, I went back to v.15, then I flashed v.17 and it fixed.
Also, you can try it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34906909#post34906909
Or any other rom. Right now I'm using aokp by frankinstine as it gives me more battery.
Good luck.

The crappy thing is aokp by frankinstine is one of the roms I flashed hoping that this problem would not persist, but it did.
I did a factory data reset, installed the rom, connected to wi-fi, disconnected wi-fi= data dead.
The only way I have been able to make it come back on so far is to: go into settings >dev options>launch tools>connectivity
Inside connectivity settings, I hit Remove Default Route, then Stop HiPri, then Start HiPri in this order and it will make my data connection come to life.
I don't understand why the phone won't connect automatically anymore. This is a pain to have to do every time I leave wi-fi. If anyone understands why this might happen out of no where when no changes were made to a perfectly functioning ROM setup please feel free to chime in. Thanks.

Yea I tried switching all that around...made no difference. I'm going by T-Mobile tomorrow to get a new sim card to see if that fixes the issue.

UPDATE:
Getting an updated SIM card solved this problem. Not sure if mine was faulty or just out of date... it was the one that came with the phone when the Sensation came out. Also a guy at the T-mobile store told me they are adding several LTE towers in my area at the moment, so maybe this rendered my SIM card obsolete. Not sure exactly what was going on, but at least I finally found a solution. Thanks to those who posted to help me troubleshoot this strange problem.

Ampe A85 A31S - 0.00kbs, format and factory reset every boot

Hey guys. Forgive my noobity but I could do with some help and might have a unique problem although I dare say someone has had this or similar.
Firstly, after putting a 64GB stick in my tablet the other day, it all went badly wrong. I had done it before with my previous 64GB that had been playing up so I sent it back and got a new one. The new one seems to be where it all went pear shaped. I might add, the 64GB is for my phone really but my phone cam was playing up so I was swapping it over and stuff... anyway the card itself seems fine in my phone.
Anyways... now my ampe tablet is suffering some strange effects that have changed. initially it would not boot up unless I redone it with the official firmware.. but then wouldn't boot up again, unless I did the same thing over and over. then one time it just refused to boot up past the initial boot screen. I gave up for weeks then picked it up again two days ago.
Now I give it the firmware installed using pheonix again and it booted up. Ahh I thought... lets play. Now I plug it into the pc but the pc says I need to format the 5GB internal partition. So I did. I then looked how to fix the fact that the tab still says it has 0.00kbs internal storage in settings. Then after a while it came up saying 5GB so i copied some files onto it.. great. But I still can't install apps as I found when trying to do this tested working fix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJlpek6w624
I then read about using android commander to move busybox from xbin to bin in the system folder but mine is already there.
So now I am stuck. I can't test if my tab is rooted for the youtube link fix above although this is what I said to Nayeem on youtube:
================
Hi Nayeem. I'm really struggling with this. At first my tab was staying at the 2nd initial boot up screen after I put in a 64GB SD card. Using pheonix I managed to get it to boot by reinstalling the updated official rom from szampe but every reboot back to square one. I left it alone for weeks and came back to it, reinstalled the factory rom again and now it will boot up everytime but it has factory reset every time. I cant run the apps you supply for some reason. Everytime I have rebooted the tab, and connected back to pc it says I need to format the internal 5GB partition. I don't know if I have rooted it properly as I can't check. The commands you give above, work as it changes the location proven when I 'get' it. I'm really stumped. I'm trying out a method someone said about moving busybox from sys/xbin to sys/bin but it's already there (using android commander) so I am really stumped now. When I format the partition, it allows me to copy files to it.
================
So far I am stuck with boot up being a factory reset and the partition needs formatting and although the tablet seems a little laggy, everything I have tried works including wifi and incoming email alerts after logging into google account for playstore but no apps will install or update. the best warning I get is there is no memory to install anything and Nayeems method of moving the install location to the sd card seems to work but nothing will install still saying NOT INSTALLED when I try.
Sorry for the long winded thing but I am really new to all of this.
My hat is off to you if you read all of this and can offer a solution so i can give this tablet back to the kids.
Do you have an installed recovery
Try installing a recovery and wipe data and cache. If it does not work u have to repartition ur tablet

I am gonna look into this tonight and see what I can find out. I really don't know exactly what I am doing outside of getting pheonix up and sending a standard rom back to it as previously mentioned.
How would I repartition it ? Sounds stupid asking as i can build pcs... just want to make sure I am doing the correct method.
