Hey guys this is one thing I'm extremely curious about, anyone able to review how the sound is on this?
Nexus 4 was horrible because of the low volume problem playing through aux cables in the car, my galaxy nexus was way better, just curious to how the sound is on the nexus 5

The actual speaker loudness its self... For me its not very loud!
I have played it though aux in a car and its fine

It seems nice and loud to me. I'm using headphones and Bluetooth with mine though.

Another question for the owners who tried the phone in their cars (AUX) how is the sound quality? since in the N4 the sound quality via the AUX was crap (no other word to describe it) :good:
I thought it was pretty good. Nice quality and loud

Well playing via A2DP is really good. Just like my S3 if not better due to the bitpool being correct.
Playing via headphones also seem to be fine. Not as good as the S3 for me but once a kernel is out with some decent DAC settings i cant really compare.
Yes the speaker quality is CRAP. Not very loud and also tinny. With some sound mods it will be better i can only hope.
Not talking about speakers, about quality through the headphones /aux!

Headphone is definitely better than n4 in my opinion. Speaker is total crap.

Can somebody else confirm that the speaker is crap? Is it better or worse than the N4? The one thing I miss about the iPhone is the external speaker, in terms of volume. I could, with the 4s, put it in my pocket and hear the music without a problem. That wasn't the case with the N4.

Considering it deals with sound quality, no. If you don't like it then start another thread or quit *****ing.

Seems that the speaker is a turd. HTC One was superior in this sense...even when ringing and getting notifications.
I played through Bluetooth today and it sounds absolutely stunningly perfect.

I affirm it again speaker is crap, probably barely good enough for ringing and calls. Tried to play some dubstep from YouTube and at 50% volume it was far from loud and already starting to saturate. And I'm not a kid that wants to blow is hears off.

I've been trying the speakers out and I gotta say, they're really bad. My dad's super old iphone 4s speaker volume was louder then my n5 speaker when i had it on full blast and he was about 5 feet away. I played youtube music videos on them as well and they sound like ****. Headphones sound fine though.
Has anyone had issues with the speakers? It seems I only get sound out of one side, don't think this should be normal, but, I might be crazy.
Hi,
There's only one speaker so it's normal...

To expand on that, one side is the speaker and one side is the microphone. They just wanted it to look symmetrical.
As the title suggests,
My top speaker is roughly 20/30% louder than the bottom one.
I assume this is because the bottom one has the mic in so it is a smaller speaker, just curious what everyone thinks?

Nope, it's because the top speaker faces forwards and the bottom faces downwards try putting music on and pivot your phone and you'll see

Thanks, it makes sense now why the top of the phone vibrates through the back with the sound more than halfway, and the bottom one doesn't unless it is almost at full volume.

After a few hours of watching youtube videos and using various music apps, i can confirm that with my device all of the bass comes out of the top speaker, and the bottom one sounds very weak. It is strange when watching something in landscape because my left ear picks up most of the sound.
I have none of the sony sound booster things active.
Can someone else test this for me please? Or let me know if there is a way to disable the bottom speaker, i find it very annoying now that i can notice it properly.

Try enabling S-force Front Surround in settings>sound>soundsettings>sound effects
The Mate 9 is supposed to have 4 microphones. One is on top, and I'm assuming the other is in one of the grilles below. Does anyone know where the other 2 are? And if they're HAAC "rich recording" microphones like the Nokia Lumias had.
I have just broken my phone screen, please feel my pain.
Is there a way to over-ride the 'Touch screen disabled' prompt? I've already missed two calls fumbling for buttons.
Regards.

Hi Mostar088,
I am in the UK. I am sure you didn't mean to rub salt into the wound of my 3 month 20 day (when the screen broke) old phone [emoji22] .
I had left the original screen protector on, just as well as this is now holding the screen together.
Choice I have now is to buy a replacement screen, and fit it myself, or stump £150 for someone else to repair. The taredowns I've seen make me think that the Mate 9 is more fiddly than a Nexus 5, which I have replaced a screen on.
My assumption here is Huawei will be the slowest and most expensive option. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
To answer my original question, should anyone else be asking the same, go to Setting > Smart Assistance > Touch-disabled mode.
I didn't think I had set this previously, and this 'feature' only appeared when the screen cracked. The bulk of the screen damage is just under the speaker grill and over the proximity sensor. The damage must now be confusing the sensor.
