Hi, I'm not a developer, but, your site was referred by someone for a question I have.
I have an HTC 8525, that I bought on ebay to replace my original that was destroyed in a horrible brake fluid accident.
When I bought the phone, everything seemed to work just fine, however, it doesn't seem to have the Media Net files on it, and therefore, will not connect to the internet.
Can someone tell me how I can get that back on the phone? The phone I purchased was "unlocked", and frankly, I could care less, I just need it to make calls and connect to the web. I don't know if the unlocking process had anything to do with it, but, I have seen others with "unlocked" 8525s that still have the Media Net on it.
I'm not trying to get something for free, and if it's something I have to pay for, that's fine too. Especially since I'm paying for the usage.
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Jes
P.S. Before I posted, I did a search of the site, using both the "Search this forum" option as well as the XDA Google search. I may have missed something, but, didn't see anything directly related to this particular Media Net issue. That having been said, again, I'm not a developer, so, some of the terminology is a bit foreign, so, I may just not have understood everything I read.
Ello HTC folks,
I am coming in my sisters behalf because she is having some probs with her Inspire.
For some reason whenever she sends or receives a pic it delivers as a teenie weenie thumbnail view. She has skimmed over several posts on various programs that I believe are market based but has had no results for the fix.
I myself am part of the Samsung Vibrant community and am rooted and running a custom rom (will never run stock again)
My ultimate question is this...
Would it just be a whole lot simpler to root and flash a custom rom for her? will that cure her problem? or is the mms issue more complex than that?
My initial advice was for her to just take the phone back for a warranty exchange but unfortunately that is not an option.
She is using a prepaid plan through T mobile and got the Inspire at one of those "we sell all phones" places.
Whenever she calls T mobile they say "the Inspire is an ATT phone....call them"
Whenever she calls ATT they say "your using T mobile...call them"
Now being as though she isn't very tecnical savvy when it comes to this sort of thing I will be the one that undergo's the whole rooting process for her, I have already skimmed over several processes for the rooting/flashing and it looks simple enough, but i'm still left to question if it will cure the problem or not.
Thanx in advance for all of your input and advice
Most likely this thread will be closed soon as others on the same topic were. But I will answer your question and you should search for the topics next time.
The phone is an ATT phone. T-mobile's network is the issue. If the phone is non T-mobile, the network will only send small pics. Yes you will need to root it and make the phone appear to the T-mobile network as a T-mobile branded phone.
This has been covered many times. A search would have told you that ATT phones on Tmobiles network has mms issues. A search will lead you to the fixes you are after if there is one
I am not sure but I think my infrared port may be dead... For like the first 5 or 10 minutes of setting up Peel it worked perfectly but then, just stopped. I even tried a factory reset to see if that restored functionality, no joy. Anyone else having this issue?
Wow, Samsung tech support is beyond useless. Told them the IR port wasn't working, they told me to download a barcode reader app and see if the Camera worked. When I explained to them why that made no sense, they told me that I should contact technical support for Peel. I explained that I have done that, now they want me to send my tablet into them for 2-3 weeks for them to determine if the tablet is defective, and then should it be defective I'd receive a replacement within another 2-3 weeks.
I haven't had tech support this bad since I had to spend 3 hours on hold with Palm back in the day about my Palm Tungsten T2.
Do you people not search. This was talked about months ago.
I apologize, I did search but obviously not well enough. Could you perhaps provide a link to where it was talked about?
I did find something interesting out on my own... I finally got the tab working with Keis and it said there was a firmware update. I installed the update, and tried out Peel. Peel turned on the TV... Once. Only once. So, I tried TouchSquid Demo and it worked for quite a bit longer, then it too stopped.
At this point, I believe that my tablet is probably experiencing some very odd software glitch where the device doesn't do something to the IR port and it stops working. It is a good thing I didn't buy the device for its TV remote capabilities. I didn't though, I bought it to replace a Nook Tablet as an ereader, something is does fabulously.
It is kind of interesting though, I've been interested in using a handheld computing device as a remote for a long, long time. I have had Palm PDA's that would do it - sort of - most notably the Tungsten T2 and Tungsten T3 both performed alright as a TV remote, but the IR port wasn't very well suited to some devices. I found that earlier models had similar if more restricted results.
Seems to me that (especially with the writings from other people on the subject) the idea of using a computing device as a remote is... Sketchy at best. Not entirely sure why, afterall, the IR Blaster is designed for such but the software - while it was working the first time in Peel and even Touch Wiz, does leave much to be desired. Harmony remote perhaps is in my near future.

Smart ass
So I thought this might be a problem with the hardware itself. However I got it replaced, and found that the new model has the exact same problem. I'm going to go with software on this one.

yeah, smart ass
Well, its true. All of the info you need can be found in the q&a forums and by searching.
Alright, look. I appriciate that answering questions all day can be a pain in the ass if you chose to do it. However, no one gets paid here. I answer questions I have an answer for but likewise, no one is telling you that you have to post. It isn't like I didn't search. I saw a lot of posts on what different kinds of software to use but I didn't see anything where the hardware was working and then stopped.
I'm not asking you to personally help me. My problem is obviously rare and that's alright with me. Now, if I missed something and you want to help by posting a link, great. If not, then what does it help to be a smart ass? If you really don't like helping people with problems that you may think are stupid, or silly, then what good does it do to be all, "This was talked about, search for it." What are you hoping to acomplish by making such a post?
There are a lot of people here who manage to answer questions without being a ****. There are a lot of people who manage to answer questions like you did but also provide a link, both being helpful and a **** at the same time.
I will quote Wil Wheaton... Don't be a ****.
Before anyone chews me out for thinking I haven't researched this here, believe me I've already spent hours over the last couple days researching XDA and tried all kinds of things and I'm just at a loss for knowing what else I can do from what's available (some download links don't work etc.), and from what I remember from way back when I first rooted the phone. I take care of my developmentally disabled sister and don't have a lot of spare time to devote to researching this. No time and always stressed from my caregiver responsibilities. Not asking for sympathy, just understanding that I can't devote a lot of research time for this. I learned how to root the phone from XDA without bothering anyone, but this just has me stumped. Tried NVflash (this will flash the images to the phone, but still can't get past LG logo), LG updater / alternate updater tool (neither will see the phone),
I'm willing to pay for either an absolute certain fix with clear instructions and download links for any software needed that work, or possibly sending the phone to someone that can get the thing working again for a reasonable price. Keep in mind I can wait for a cheap broken phone on Ebay to replace the motherboard. I also luckily had another G2x that had Froyo and not rooted, but I decided to update it to GB even though the camera sucks. I uploaded two Youtube vids to show what's happening with it. I can't post links yet, but this is the extension for part 1 at Youtube: /watch?v=ulZzWFgNosY and part 2 :/watch?v=YVV9Vzbz0dg. Just ad these to the youttube url after the .com

After going to the store to get soup and remedies for my sister (just came down with a cold... sigh), I sat down at my computer and was disappointed that I didn't even get a response let alone an offer to help -NOT EVEN FOR PAY! So I went over what I'd done the last two days and figured it out. Phone works now, but the problem was the person's instructions were terrible. So no credit and no money. Sorry, I had to work too hard to work out what was not clearly instructed. There's a lot of that here I find. The person knows what they're talking about in their mind, but they sometimes fail to convey it clearly in written form and give instructions that are not easy to follow. Anyway, a general thanks is in order for XDA. :good:
Good to hear that your phone is working C:

Pretty sure a high majority of people that write the guides are in high school, so there's that.

Hi;
Read your post; and am in the same situation. Could you PLEASE tell the rest of us "G2Xers" HOW you managed to get out of that Boot-Loop????? Quite sure your solution would be most appreciated by the rest of us!!!!!! Leave me an answer also, and thanks loads!!!
Zenfone 4.5 from ASUS. Kitkat 4.4.2.
Camera does not work. Screen buttons do not respond, does not respond when I try to take a pic, also does not focus, ever. The only thing I see on my screen is some blurry caption of whatever is in front of the lens.
Tried turning power on/off, factory reboot, updating Kitkat, using the installed version, all different AF settings, installing different apps to replace stock camera application, etc etc etc. I read on a few other forums that this is a kitkat problem on the Zenfone.
I'm pretty angry to have bought this piece of crap, to be honest. Out of the box the camera malfunctions... come on....
Is there anyone who could offer me some advice before I go to an Asus service center and make some poor deskhelper wish they called in sick that morning?
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Unfortunately I can't find any information relating to your problem here on XDA so there's really no way we can help you. I think you'll have to have it inspected by ASUS. Just remember though, the person you deal with there isn't at fault for the problem on your phone, as frustrated as you are it wouldn't be fair to take it out on them.
Good luck, I hope you get your issue resolved.

Hello, thanks for your reply.
I also could not find anything regarding this problem on this forum, otherwise it would not have been necessary to make this post. IMO it's also not fair to make crap quality products that malfunction from the first second you start using them. So I do not really care for the schmuck who will get my full load if he does not refund me or provide me with a proper solution within 5 minutes. I have better things to do than waste time and money to go to service centers with brand new stuff. I'll give it a few more days. If I should find a solution I will post it here for others with the same problem.
You're 100% right, a product shouldn't malfunction out of the box. But it still isn't the fault of the representative that happens to serve you at the time, it's just someone trying to earn a living who has absolutely nothing to do with the development of the device or the reason that it malfunctioned. It isn't really fair to take out your frustrations on an innocent party, I can only hope that you approach the situation in a mature manner.
Anyway, this isn't the purpose of XDA Assist so I'll have to close this thread. I hope you get your issue resolved with the least amount of collateral damage.
Thread closed, thanks.
