real life review...5 months later...and rant - Moto G4 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi guys. I have had the G4 XT1625 since September 2016. Bought it unlocked at best buy. The screen on my G3 shattered so I thought I would upgrade.
First off it was an upgrade in terms of speed and resolution. I would pretty much say it stops there. I have had every Moto G since first gen. My Verizon G is still up on the shelf as an emergency backup. Hated the second gen. Loved the G3. I expected the G4 to be a great improvement I was mistaken.
Here's where the rant starts.
My major issue straight up is the size. Why so large? It doesn't even fit in the cup holders in my car. But that's a personal opinion.
Next issue I have experienced is it's just straight up NOT reliable. I use my phone for everything, work and play. It gets so hot it bogs down. Random reboots and sometimes just doesn't do what I want it to do. Nothing on Android but it's just not as good as the G3 was.
The phone just has problems. Ghost touch is dumb. I had to get the battery replaced because it wouldn't hold a charge. Apparently according to support don't use the supplied turbo charger. WTF right? It comes back in a couple days for repair for the power button breaking. That's horrible after only a couple months. I feel like the phone isn't made for people who use it all the time.
So now I have a Galaxy S5 and it's good with more support on XDA. I appreciate everyone's opinions if you wish to comment but I am just giving my real life review.
Keep up the good work XDA.

I had nearly the same bad experience with my zuk z1. Bad fp sensor, Bad digitizer, very bad support from manufacturer. Now I'm on g4 plus and totally happy.

Sounds like the OP bought a lemon. No such issues with mine, it's a great phone.

Love this phone, but have to be honest.. first one had DOA fingerprint reader. Hoping no trouble with this one, as always root. Super value, and my first with a FPR, which is really convenient.

I upgraded from a Nexus 5, I haven't noticed any such issues that the OP had, the only issue I had was trying to update to Nougat without unlocking my bootloader, but when the Fastboot flashable files were released I resolved that issue, compared to any other Moto G I've had, I've noticed huge improvements in both speed and reliability, I enjoy the larger screen and speed improvements even vs the Nexus 5, same amount of RAM between the two, only real difference I can see is the processor.

I am on stock rom and i get only 3-3.5 hr sot a day , on lineage os i got only 2 hr a day
i dont get how people say the battry life is great
if it werent for the turbo charger id kill myself

I think the comments in the thread got off topic. I used the phone much more screen on time than most people. Upwards of 4-5 hours or more a day. On LTE and I commute. So for comparison most people don't push a phone like I do.
Moto decided to not repair my device. Actually gave me a new one. Side note on that...my old one had been bootloader unlocked and they replaced it instead of repair. Gave it to the GF since it's better than her old phone and she doesnt use it near as much as me.
So far GS5 has been working fine lasting longer than the G did and was the same price with more stuff.
Thank you everyone for your opinion.

There is a difference between screen on time and actively using it during that time. I have tried multiple Roms. Lineage was definitely the best but kept going back to stock because they just aren't stable enough to be used constantly in the business environment. I have also looked through multiple threads and articles. Seems common issues with the battery and overall issues with the phone itself.
I still stand by my review of Moto could have done a lot better with the device.

Of course, I don't use it 7h permanent. It's also dependent what you're doing while screen on. Gaming sucks more then surfing for example. That should be clear. That's what most people don't understand. It's like driving a car and want to reach the nedc. Everybody gets different consumption values. And therefore you must be careful with comparing different devices, rom and software for sot. @1chrome said it today also.
Everybody should accept everybodys opinion. I do it too. Your review is OK, but keep in mind that it seems you're a minority with your mentiond problems on this device

This device can give me atleast 4hrs of sot based on my usage which is not good but not bad either, I feel more let down by "ghost touch" and that easily scratch able camera glass than the battery life. Apart from that this is a decent performer and I like how it looks, 3 things I love about this device is,
1. The display, it's awesome
2. The front firing speaker, it has more depth compared to any other speaker I have used and I love speakers that have more depth than noise.
3. The fingerprint scanner's position, it's really where it needs to be, again a personal preference.

Reasons to buy Nexus 5 instead of LG G2

Hey guys. I want to buy one of these two smartphones after almost 4 years with my iphone 4.
LG G2 seems better but something deep inside me holds me back from buying it. I want you guys to help me decide !
I am a hard user of smartphones and i will deal with routing no matter which device i am going to buy.
As i see here at XDA there is a lot more material about routing at the nexus 5 subforum.
Thanks in advance !
Well: if you are a root-maniac, if you want to ever be the first to be updated (until your device is supported, naturally) and if you want to spare a lot of moneys buy the Nexus 5 without thinking too mutch

Thank you very much. Well i cant say i am a root maniac, something in the middle. In my country G2 is cheaper than Nexus 5
Go with the G2 if its cheaper. Bigger screen, better battery, better camera. That is if ur not picky with timely updates and dev support
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
1) The Nexus 5 runs pure Google Android.
2) The N5 is cheaper.
3) The N5 is easily unlockable and rootable.
4) The G2 will have LG bloatware as well as carrier bloatware if you get a carrier variant.
5) The N5 is more customizable as it has more third-party development since it is so easily unlocked and rooted.
6) The N5 will continue to get firmware updates from Google long after LG abandons the G2 in favor of its successor.
7) Likewise the N5 will continue to see third-party development long after developers abandon the G2.
8) Pure Android outperforms LG, Samsung, and HTC's adulterated versions of Android.
Pros for G2:
* better camera
* bigger battery
Pros for N5:
* pure Android
* faster updates
* more developers
also, keep in mind that the G2 has a bigger screen (can be con or pro)
*edit* too late
For me it is only a price question !
Have both
I own both,
Well I did I currently have a very sick LGG2 so brought the nexus 5 till I can revive the G2.
So far my main takeaway, and I am still trying to work it out is the AWFUL battery life on the nexus. It's AS bad as the galaxy nexus I used last week while I waited for my 5 to arrive. I am gutted.
I used the phone last night from fully charged it dropped to 88% with half an hour of screen on, then it wan't placed on the charging pad correctly and this morning after 6 1/2 hours off charge it was on 64%, 20% overnight at idle.
Anyway have greenify, better battery stats and elemental X all running, hoping it gets better because this is terrible.
Any one have the same issue, did you fix it?
LGG2 I could have the phone off charge for 12 hours and still have 90% left.
Feel in hand: N5.
Performance on stock: N5
Battery life: G2
Speaker: Tied
X Factor: N5 easier to customize and tinker

In the hand it felt more premium, definitely prefer stock to the LG software which is a series of pointless additions (except quiet time which should be STOCK)
Gutted I messed up my G2, hopefully this battery thing comes good or I will sell the nexus and buy ANOTHER G2, no maybe a moto x

That's definitely not normal. Mine drains maybe .5% or so per hour at idle. You must have something running in the background draining all that power. It could also be your ROM/kernal. You might want to try reverting back to stock and seeing if it improves. Also before you do anything, you might want to try wiping the cache/dalvik. Sometimes that helps with random battery problems.
Exactly

Have tried wiping both, first thing I thought this morning! Kernel is elementalx, flashed last night.
I was expecting 5% or less an hour even 5% with wifi only and phone in pocket seems excessive compared to the G2. Switching to Franco in 5 minutes after I type this and download his app.

my stock N5 will loose may be 5% battery overnight. Something is wrong with your phone or apps. I don't use battery saving apps but I force kill some startup services to keep it clean (and hit the EScleaner widget several times a day)
Thats sounds about right

I was expecting 5% overnight.
Lets see how it goes on Franco and if that doesn't work I will factory reset and see if that cures it. I am running stock, I ran a custom 4.2 rom on the G2. Maybe I should go and flash non stock again, sheesh what a hassle, I thought I could get away with root and xposed this time.
If phone is less then a couple days old, all this is moot.
Hasn't settled yet.
Otherwise as said, it's not normal.

Advice People

I am stuck between the LG G2 and the Nexus 5. I will buy the phone unlocked. Both are priced the same in my country. I've been to multiple stores and tried the devices.
I really like the nexus 5 but the battery life is main concern.
My daily usage is somewhat like this:
2 hours of offline music (screen off).
30-60 minutes of web browsing
10 minutes of phone calls
30-40 minutes spent on apps like feedly and 9gag and other such apps
Average amount of messaging
Don't click a lot of pictures (1-3 in a day or even none)
Average amount of messaging
Most of the day is spent on wifi
Network signal strength is good. No LTE in my country so I use 3G
Little to no gaming on the phone (1 hour cumulatively in 3-4 days, mostly 2D games)
So can I get about 13-16 hours with this kind of usage? Will android lollipop make things better?
Or should I go for the G2. I know that the battery life is much better. But Personally I don't like the user interface on the G2. Plus I've heard that the bootloader is locked on the G2. I know about the Loki bypass but it has been patched up in the 4.4.2 update so I don't know whether I'll be able to flash a custom rom on the G2. Also I've heard that developers are now reluctant to develop for the G2 because of this?
So please suggest what should I buy. Should I get the nexus 5?
G2 will get lollipop update .... That will change ui to that of g3. ...
Also since ur usage is above moderate ... G2 will be better..... my choice would be g2 it suits ur need better
G2 = bigger battery
N5 = updates
And as said above it will get the g3 ui but i heard somewhere that it apparently lags a lot...
That would be it
I don't think anyone can or should decide which phone you should buy. Looking at your list I think it should best for you to decide what you want most from your phone.
I personally have to charge my N5 once a day, sometime twice depend on the usage.

Than you for your reply, but I figured out that much by reading the spec sheet of the phones. You're stating the obvious. What I really wanted to know is how the nexus performs. Since you are on this thread, I assume that you have a Nexus 5. What I want to know is how does the battery hold up with your usage. Please elaborate on your usage. Will I be able to get a day out of the nexus with my usage?

I agree that I will be the one finally deciding the phone. But I really value you opinions. They will ultimately help me decide. You say you charge you phone once or twice in a day. What is your usage pattern? How many hours do you get out of a single charge? Can I get the usage I mentioned in my first post out of a single charge?

Again. all of this is subjective. Depends on what all apps you've installed and how you've setup your phone. With your usage pattern, it will be slightly difficult for you to pull this off.
The same usage patterns will differ from person to person as it depends on a lot of variables.

I second this! I'm usually around charger at all times so, battery life doesn't really hurt me much. But, when I know I won't be around a charger, I do carry a powerbank in my backpack!
I am currently running the newest android 5.0 dev preview, and since installing it my battery life has improved drastically. And android 5.0 has a battery saving mode that kicks on at 25,20,15,10, or 5 percent, you choose what percent to set that at. I am a power user to the extreme. I really mean extreme. I have nfc and Bluetooth on all the time, on the web multiple hours per day reading and watching videos, on calls for 1 hour per day. I top off the battery on a wireless charging pad for one hour during lunch, and i leave it on a charging pad overnight. And i get by just fine. But everyones usage will very depending on how you use and set your phone up. I would not let battery life determine my decision if i were you. Look at other features, size, feel, etc. Personally ive had a n5 since launch and i wouldn't trade it for anything at this time.
I had the G2 for a long time. While it was a great phone, with awesome battery life, after now getting a nexus 5 I much prefer this phone even if the battery isn't as good. But its all personal preference. I love this nexus 5.

Sorry i answered to quick. The n5 can give you 2 days if you want but this means that you are on a good kernel (stock or elemental) and on a good rom (stock is the best i think). In this 2 days I dont use data much so the phone is mostly on wifi and i get around 5- 6hrs screen on. I dont dimm the screen i leave it on auto mostly and i have it oveclocked to 2.5. I also cover a lot of browsing in tapatalk, reddit and also in chrome (which became a big batt sucker lately but things are improving). So at least 2hrs in these apps. Also around 20min talk time. All the time i am on 2g with a very good sigbal. My conclusion... It should get you through the day np
Regarding android l people are reporting better battery results
And just to clear it even more. Yesterday i flashed the pa beta 6 build (had enough of L) and left it on the charger through the night. I woke up downloaded a 2gb file via wifi reinstalled a lot of missing apps listened to some music for 30min (i use viperfx which drains the batt even more) and in the end of the day i have a 2hr sot with 12hr standby and 54%. The 2hrs were browsing in bacon, chrome and tapatalk. But this is the first cycle and as you know it needs a bit to settle so battery life gets even better. So in a few days i would expect a 2hr and 30min sot time with the same usage as i had today. This would be it. If you got any more questions just ask
have both these phones in my family... if you get the chance put them side by side.... nexus 5 has a yellow screen
i never notice until i mess with my wife's g2, as my eyes accept the whites on my nexus 5 as normal.

Imo kernel has a very less effect on battery life.... It solely depends on your usage, network and display brightness..
The Nexus has a battery results thread in the general section. How about checking that out. There's hundreds of members battery times already there to review. ?

Since you don't have LTE in your country and you don't do intensive gaming, you might want to consider the Moto G 2014. The battery life on the Moto G will be better than the Nexus 5, and unlike the G2 the Moto G is unlockable and the software will be up to date for a good long while. It also doesn't hurt that the G is like half the price of the N5.

3 of my friends have the 2014 Moto G. I've used it and I must say I was impressed. But there are two major shortcomings of the phone. First the barely over 4GB of space for apps. With ART being the default runtime in Lollipop, Apps will only get bigger in size. Second is the 1GB RAM which limits the multitasking to a certain extent. Also I do play intensive games on my phone, on weekends or on my days off when I'm at home, so there's that. More importantly I don't know how the Moto G will hold up over the course of 18-24 months
If someone has no interest in big graphics games, or any CPU intensive activities... And doesn't care about having the "best" phone out there..... The G seems like the best bang for your buck deal out there. ?

There have been very few brick reports or other serious issues, i got my v10 h901 a few months back and it is a super impressive phone. With more devs it would be near perfect. For the current asking price i can't see why not upgrade, this is far superior to note4 imo

My wife and I each snagged unlocked V10s during a recent sale to replace our G3s that we loved. So far, so good. It's not leaps and bounds better than the G3 for our use, but the camera - particularly the front-facing and manual controls - are great. The second screen takes a little getting used to, but it's handy.
My biggest gripe is that Verizon gimped the phone by removing the Smart Settings feature, and location-based profile changing apps aren't able to find me, so apps like Llama don't work.

I just picked up the V10 on September 27 from tmobile and have to say i'm impressed so far. But the battery is not even close to what my previous G4 was. Since I have 14 days before I can return it, im still worried about the battery not passing 6pm. The G4 got the boot loop and then was repaired by LG but it came back with LTE issues. So T-mobile gave me the option to jump and I did.
I shut the second screen off completely to see if battery improves. Today I did see the battery last past 6pm before I had to charge it. SO LETS SEE what happens tomorrow.

The battery is the most disappointing aspect of this phone (I think). My friend had a g4 and he would be down to around 70 by the end of the work day while I got down to 40. Pretty substantial difference.
Fortunately you can get larger batteries for it, 6500 capacity (PowerBear) or even 9000 capacity (ZeroLemon) on amazon. I prefer the powerbear because I can leave the metal sides visible and the weight is much less than with the ZeroLemon.
The second screen takes up very little battery the biggest offender is the main screen, keep the brightness low when you can don't jack the brightness all the way up.
Upgrade to marshmallow if you haven't already and use the program ForceDoze which aggressively puts your phone in Doze mode to save battery. Unfortunately you'll need to have adb sideloader experience or your phone rooted to use it.
There are a lot of things I like about this phone though:
- second screen is excellent for controlling music with the main screen on
- I can put shortcuts on the second screen for my fav apps for quick access.
- I can setup quick calls on the screen which allows me to quickly contact whomever I wish
- camera is fantastic
- the phone doesn't seem to get bogged down when I have a lot of apps installed, my note 3 did this.
- 64gb capacity
- the design is solid, some don't like how heavy it is but I think it makes the device feel solid. I especially like the metal rails on the sides it makes the phone stand out from other phones.
- audio quality is great with high end headphones
The only downs from my perspective is
- second screen could be brighter (fixed on the v20)
- battery life
- I miss the stylus from the note series

I also got Tmobile H901 and battery is better. There might be some issue with your battery, how much SOT you are getting? I get 4.5 to 5 hours with moderate use on LTE + Wifi connectivity all day.

Sounds like you have better battery life in your V10. That made me thing I will reset my phone and not use the LG G4 backup to restore. Hope this make is better than what im getting today, see screen shot below:
Today I'm getting 8 hours with estimated 1.26 left at 16%.
my on screen time is only 2h 31m on time. I consider this very bad.

Yes the screen is brighter than needed I thing. On my past LG G4 the automatic screen was too low So I used a app called Lux Lite Dash to fix this. Now I use is to make the auto brightness less brighter. After resetting the V10 I will install Lux Lite again. I'll consider ForceDoze if I keep my phone and root it.
Yes I am in MM, thanks for your input.

Yes its almost half of what I am getting. Your network signals are very low, that may also be cause of more battery drain. I disabled almost all Tmobile and other useless google apps (Play games, Movies etc) and getting 4+ Hr SOT.

So after resetting my phone yesterday and installing apps manually. I'm glad to say the battery life is way more acceptable today I got 10 hours of usage with 15% battery left. My screen on is only 2h 30m usage and this is a great improvement. My mistake was as soon as I activated the phone the first time I restored everything from a LG G$ back up from my previous phone. That must have done who knows what to the my V10.
Thanks for confirming that my battery life was not normal for this phone and that your phone gave you much better battery. I am more inclined to keeping this phone now. I'm still amazed how good the camera is with manual mode. Its a sick phone.

it's almost a side-grade. Very minor upgrade at best. I would get the LG v20.
No, unless you are with t mobile and it's under warranty.
Reason being is the boot loop issue. It's better to pay 5 dollars to warranty it out then be out of luck and a phone without it.
And it will boot loop. Eventually.
The phone is solid, don't get me wrong but that issue is a major concern.

Literally just happened to me today. Bought it in November when it first came out. I thought I was a lucky one.
Just avoid this phone if you can.

Abysmal battery life.

I have run out of ideas. I have uninstalled apps, repaired the OS, done everything I can think of. The battery life of this phone is the worst I have ever experienced in a phone. I can barely get a day out of this phone (2hrs 30 SOT). I'm at my wit's end. Is it just my device or do others experience this. And does anyone have any idea what I can do?
Unfortunately Sony doesn't pack much into their batteries and software does take a toll. I had a Huawei P9 and P10 Plus and I would get a solid day of heavy use, with my XZ I can't make it to early evening with comparable usage. I prefer Sony handsets to all others, but I have to agree with you in that battery life is crap.

Yeah, but it wasn't always like this. I used the Z2 and it had great battery life and I also used a Z3 dual and it's battery life was even better. Compared to those 2, the XZ's battery life is shockingly bad. I used to get 6-7 hrs SOT on my Z3, 2 hrs is a struggle on this phone.
Check for phone idle battery drain it nukes my battery since 7.1

The phone idle battery drain has been high since 7.1 for me as well. I thought it was an app. But I uninstalled every app that might cause that, and yet...

Make sure you do a factory reset after the update.
You will thank me for it later.
Also if you want to seriously see major peeofmance and battery improvement, you need to root and installtlal duality dra4.
People are achieving 5-10hour sot with 24-48hours usage.
The experience in this rom is night and day compared to stock.
Stock ROM is complete turd.
I'm giving you this information from my first hand experience. You need this rom, else you will continue to be disappointed I know this.
Why do I know, well I've been with Sony for 5years and haven't rooted for the passed 2 years until now. It's a must to root this phone else it's merely mediocre.
However the choice is yours

+1 ...man this is all thru... i have same xperience with Sony devices...i had xperia z,z2,z5 and now xz and since z5 everything is going down...less battery life...same speakers since z2...very bad loudspeaker its so low that even a low budget phone beats it.. also OVERHEATING badlly...but the design of the phone is way better then any competition atleast for me...and also xz is very durbale phone it fellt 5 times already on concrete also 2 times fell directly on the screen and nothing is broken yet...screen has only 2 little scratches and of course all corners are beaten up a little bit hehehe over all very durable trust me...this new plastic that they use is so good...and at the end i really must say that rootin is a must for this phone cuz since i got it i had constant problems with stock rom, specialy with ram usage it gave me lags all the time but now i use custom rom and xz is flying like it should.

Install wakelock detector or betterbatterystats and check what's draining your battery. This phone should easily achieve 1 day battery life. I'm getting 3,5-4 of Ingress (AR game that uses GPS+Mobile Data+screen on - so it's hard to drain more)m and about 5sot with normal use

Galaxy S8 Oreo test build is G950FXXU1BQI1 -- but wished Samsung had something REAL !

It's bring reported in news that Samsung is working on Oreo for Galaxy S8 and S8+, and that the software version is BQI1.
Well, that is nice. But hey? Did you know OnePlus is already testing the OnePlus 3 Oreo under beta, closed beta actually that is not available to the public.
OnePlus is also targeting a September-end release of public beta of its Oreo for OP5, OP3/3T.
Hell, THAT IS FAST. No?
And what we have on Samsung?
The build nos. of Oreo update under the works.
Well, every OEM has Oreo update under the works. HTC, Motorola, Sony, LG, all of them. Even though they do not put out their Oreo build nos. out, chances are that they will still beat Samsung in the race to Oreo rollout.
So, Samsung, making a news via your unofficial source about Oreo update's supposed build nos that won't make to rollout is really not gonna make Galaxy S fans happy. Availability of a beta build of S8, before or just after OnePlus releases one of its own, would be something that would cheer Samsung's fans.
What do you guys think?

I rather have a later release which works more stable than a first-of-the-brands-release which is buggy as hell. Just my 2 cents.
The final release will be in January or February. Deal with it or get another phone.

HTC and LG release new software among the first ones and it was never buggy. Still 5 months after S8 release, battery drain is here, not fixed with 7.0, not even 7.1.1.

donno what battery drain you're talking about. I have none.
Had LG G2 before. Lollipop update was really BAD (performance and battery) and BUGGY, and never fully fixed with official updates from LG. Kitkat update was much better, although still worse than the original 4.2.2

Well, with HTC 10 I still get around 2-3 days of use, my GF with my old G5 gets 2 days. With Crapsung, if I get full day it is a miracle. And overheating is terrible. You dont have to convince me that this is good battery life because I'm not a child. I know how battery should behave.
But, It was my fault to be a victim of Crapsung marketing. And for sure, this is my first and last Samsung device.
What the hell did you expect! Or is this your 1st Samsung device.

I could easily get 4 or 5 days use out my s8+ if I used my phone a certain way. Here's my batter life and screen on time with heavy use, video, 3d gaming, calls, WhatsApp, telegram, Skype and on top of all that half the time I was on 4g! Care to show any proof of your supposed HTC 10 battery life

The moment someone has different opinion he’s trolling. ? well natural response from someone whose IQ is equal to the room temperature in celsius.
Anyway, I said this was my first Samsung device. And it is gonna be my last one. I get that Exynos is better than Snapdragon, camera is great, Sound is poor before adding Arya Sound mod but after it, it is great. Display was the reason why I took this device.
But... battery is really bad. After posting on Samsung community Moderator replied me that 17 hours is pretty great! Wtf? Since when is that the case? iPhones can do better that that. When I use YT or recording for loger than 5-6 minutes, phone gets unbearably hot and starts to be buggy. This also cannot be normal. I red some forums and found out that a lot of people are experiencing this kind of behavior. Custom rom (BatStock 1.4) fixed it partially.
So, don’t be blinded like iPhone freaks, I just think there is a lot of room for improvements.
Also, I am selling it, and it takes a time.
Cheers!

You can't just generalise the whole handset because of your experience you're one person and I just showed you evidence earlier of my battery life. Going by my own evidence i could just say it's an amazing device, I'm not even running custom roms or kernels, which I do plan to do at some point.
Yeah I suspect we won't have it till December or January. Now will they have an open beta again?

Apparently you have a defective device. I've had my S8 since the middle of April and I have great battery life and it never once overheated. Would it be fair for you to pass your problem off on someone else? If do, at least inform them of your phones issues so they would be making an informed decision purchasing it.

The S7 got the Nougat Beta in November because of the Note 7 failure. I guess the Note 8 will get Oreo Beta in November but we'll see.
**Mod edit**
Gaps between the housing and the glass of the screen were huge (compared to now) and the screen itself had problems
with red tint all across it and issues with burn in after less than a week of use . Since then I dropped it and cracked the screen.
They replaced the whole metal housing of the phone and the screen.
I had overheating issues also if the ambient temperature was more than 35 degrees Celsius and I haven't used more than
one app at a time, even in the background...
Also regarding battery drain. Had this issue with the July update plus my home button started trippin' and auto-brightness stopped working completely.
On the other hand my brother who also has an S8 didn't have any of this issues so I'm willing to bet that it's all up to the batch of device you got. Few of
my friends that got the phone just after the release reported problems from screen to bricked devices!
Thread cleaned up a bit.
Please show respect to all members. There is no need to disrespect each other.
Cheers

Exactly. I live in The Netherlands and have never heard of bad battery life with an Samsung. The thing is, a Samsung lasts the longest with high brightness. An LCD-device (iPhone for instance) lasts longer with low brightness (0-30%). In general, with the brightness maxed out and mixed usage on pure 4G+ I get about 4-5.5 hours of display on time on a single charge. If you'd do the same on an LCD-device (iPhone 7 Plus) you can expect about 2-2.5 hours of display on time. The story does change completely when using 0-30% brightness, then the iPhone 7 Plus outruns the S8 by quite a few hours (no video watching). I'm on fully stock and liking the device a lot. No lag, fast and reliable just like the S7 Edge which I had before this.
Absolute standby drain is the best on Galaxy A-series phones from my experience. 5-7H of SOT with 100% brightness over 4-5 days is a normal occurance for the A5 2016 which my mom owns (with lots of streaming included, phone calls & skype). Can't do that on my S8 and the iPhone 7 would die within the first 3 hours under the same use-case...
Android Oreo isn't necessary imho. It's nice that we do get the update but nearly all introduced features are features we already have had for many years on the Galaxy S-series. While other manufacturers benefit massively with Android Oreo...Samsung simply doesn't.
