Hello All,
Ever since the last update a couple of days ago Whatsapp has a new bug on my phone (SG S5), the phone will vibrate on all messages even when global phone setting is set to no vibrate. I read many users are having the same issue.
Beside waiting for them to fix this, my only solution is to downgrade Whatsapp. Can I downgrade it without being removed from the groups I'm in and I have created?
Any other solution?
Thank you kindly.

From my understanding, your issue is that your phone vibrates when you receive messages even though your global settings are set to: "no vibration".
You can do this: Go into WhatsApp settings (the 3 dots in top right corner), then go to Notifications and for Vibrate select Off option on both Message notifications and Group notifications.
Thank you for your reply.
By global sttings i mean my phone ringtone settings. I have my phone to never vibrate on anything but whatsapp still vibrates on incoming messages even when its notification setting is set to "Default".
I already tried what you suggested but when I do it whatsapp will not vibrate when I set my phone on vibrate mode. Everything else will vibrate except Whatsapp. I set my phone to vibrate in my pocket when I'm working.
I have read on google play store that many users started having the problem after the last update.
I can downgrade Whatsapp by uninstalling and reinstalling the previous version via Aptoide but I'm afraid to be removed from the Whatsapp groups I have created and those I'm in.
Thank you kindly.
Any idea guys?

It probably is a bug. You should report it. Not much else you can do

Hi all,
I know this topic has been bashed to death, I've read through this forum, other forums, many web sites, but have been unable to resolve the issues, I am not getting notifications on WhatsApp, my Ring Doorbell, and some other apps (Outlook is one of them).
It's a Mate 9 - MHA-AL00 - Build Number MHA-AL00C00B225 (the latest release I believe).
I have followed each and every suggestion, allowing notifications, raising the priority of the apps, making them trusted, adjusting power / battery settings (app auto-launch etc), allowing them to freely use Wifi or Mobile data as required, setting individual permissions to everything, basically giving them access to all and sundry, removing and re-installing and doing it all again, rebooting the phone etc, nothing has worked.
I saw some earlier threads acknowledging this as a known issue (due to the EMUI way of handling things), the advice was to wait for the next release, but that was in Jan/Feb, the next 2 releases have come and gone.
Have I missed anything?
Are there any EMUI settings that I have missed?
Is there another App I can install that can improve or fix this?
Thanks in advance, any assistance would be much appreciated.

Rebrand to Europe version and you'll get notifications working like they should.

Many thanks albertobom,
I am relatively new to Android phones, does that mean re-flashing the handset?
Does re-flashing the handset mean it's rooted? (I use some banking apps which won't work on a rooted handset).
Is it straightforward to do with a Windows 10 laptop?
Is special software needed?
Does it definitely fix the notifications issue?
Can I back up and restore the handset to save myself re-installing 50+ Apps?
Where would I find the Europe image?
Sorry for all the questions, I'll also do some research on the forum.
Cheers

Hello Peter,
I saw that I have a similar problem with my Mate 9 ( MHA-AL00C00B225 ) - push notificatons.
Do you solve this issue?
If your answ is affirmative, please tell me how can I solve it? (without rooting my phone)
Tks
Hi there,
Alas I didn't find a definitive solution, I am using a non ideal workaround. The behaviour is random, I guess as the EMUI is learning..?Notifications work fine on some apps and not great on others, then sometimes work ok on the apps they didn't used to work on, not always logical, but I suppose something is going in the background trying to process it.
Once you have done all the elevation of the app in terms of making it trusted, giving it all permissions, removing any power limitations etc, open apps have a padlock symbol (when you have the view that shows you all open apps), if you enable it on, it should keep them alive when the phone goes into a sleep / lower power state.
I kept on doing that with 2 or 3 critical apps (Whatsapp, Ring etc), and it seemed to learn I think...The padlock was on automatically at times and the apps stayed open and gave notifications.. Anyway, it's not ideal, I'm hoping the next release might fix it (maybe Android O?). Like you I wasn't comfortable in rooting the device, flashing etc, in case it stopped my banking apps working and didn't fix my probs, so I'm living with it at the moment.
Sorry I couldn't help more.
Peter
I would like to set different notification ringtones for gmail and sms. However, I cannot figure it out on P20. Any ideas? Thx.
You can set the individual ringtones in the settings of Gmail, Messages etc.

Ok cool, explain !?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
For example, in Messages, click the menu button (top right), then select Settings -> Notifications -> Sound. Select the sound you like.
In Gmail: click the hamburger menu (top left), then scroll all the way down and select Settings. Select your account, then click Manage Notifications. Click on Mail -> Sound. Then select the sound.
Well it's not possible on the P20 Pro
I've looked everywhere how to set different tones for SMSes, Calendar events et emails et it's just impossible. I can't understand why Huawei would block that. It's so basic. Same thing with Gmail lables: impossible to set a specific tone per label. Why?!
same on P20, it just vibrates...what the heck
I replaced the SMS app with another one that allowes to change the tone (truecallers). For the calendar I use the Huawei app for the notifications only. Now for Gmail, I haven't found the way to set a particular tone for a specific label (which I could do on my previous phone).
And I have a problem with Airbnb that doesn't allow to change the notifications tone; my P20 Pro set it to "default" which is most inconvenient.
Same issue here, it seems that Huawei removed the option to choose a specific notification sound in notification management. I can't seem to understand the reasoning behind such a decision... Hopefully they will fix that in a future update
Can't change ringtone....
Wait--- they produced the fanciest camera-phone ever, costs a ferking THOUSAND dollars, and you can't change the sound that incoming gmails / SMS's make??? (On my new P20 Pro this appears to be the case)
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.
That's exactly it! It seems unbelievable. Worse... You cannot get rid of the Huawei calendar, therefore when you have Google calendar AND Huawei calendar running at the same time and that you want to add an event with the voice assistant, at the end, you have to manually tap on the calendar you want to enter the event in! No way to complete the task totally handsfree. I'm so not buying another Huawei phone the next time (even though the camera is great).
I'm really disappointed by this too, this is a huge problem! Android has had this ability for years, it makes no sense to take it away.
Same issue hete

Have you found a solution for this? I have the same problem... Cannot change messages notification tone. But I am surprised that the internet is not blown up with this error. Might work for some???
I think I've found a good solution! The AutoNotification app lets you set the sound for any of an apps Notification Categories! I haven't completely tested it yet but so far it seems to be doing what I need.

Hi, have you got this sorted yet?
I have not long had my P20 Pro and have also found it frustrating but I have sat and played around with it and found the solution, albeit it a bit of a hassle to do!
Apologies for no doubt going over old ground here, but I need to work on the assumption that there maybe others, slightly less experienced, that may also be trying to work this out.
Ringtone first! Use a computer and Windows Media Player, to first get your desired tunes/tones onto. (Rip into Media Player using MP3 from the settings tab).
Next, unlock your P20 Pro and connect to your computer using the supplied USB cable, once connected, swipe the screen down and select the “MTP” option (file transfer). Your P20 Pro will then be recognised by your computer and will quickly show up in Media Player on the right hand side.
It’s then just a matter of dragging and dropping any content from the left side of the Media Player window into this area on the right. Once done, be sure to click “sync” above your devices name.
Then disconnect your P20 Pro from the computer, go to “Settings”, then “Sounds”, scroll up until you see “Phone ringtone”, click this, next select “Music (on storage)” at the top right, choose your desired tune by popping a dot in the adjoining circle and finally click on the tick, top right corner, to apply. Done!
Next, Email notification sounds.
I have my home screen setup so that once unlocked, I can see the “@“ icon (with Email written underneath it) in the middle bottom section of the screen, but it is this icon you will need to use, if it’s not where mine is!
Although this may seem very odd, I can assure you that it works.
You MUST use this icon “@“ to setup your email account(s) in order to then be able to set different tunes/tones for each of them.
The first time you hit the “@“ icon you will be prompted to select what type of mail account you are using etc, follow all relevant onscreen prompts to get setup.
Whichever mail account you add first will become the default sender for emails, this can only be changed once you have added an additional email account.
Once your account(s) have been successfully setup, exit back to the home screen, only so that we are starting from the same point!
Select the “@“ icon, the default sending account opens first, next, click the three dots at the bottom right labelled “More”, then select “Settings”, look under the section “ACCOUNTS” and select which account you wish to deal with, next, scroll the screen up until you see the section “NOTIFICATION SETTINGS”, from here select “Choose ringtone”, and finally, select “Music (on storage)” to find the tunes/tones that you previously added using Windows Media Player, place a dot in the corresponding circle, click the tick to the the top right of the screen to apply your selection. This technique can now be used for all other email accounts, to give you separate tunes/tones for each email account.
You can, of course, also use a third party app, such as “Zedge Ringtones” and once you have selected and downloaded your chosen tone, it will appear under your phones settings/sounds/phone ringtone or default notification sound/Sound
Hope this helps, my P20 Pro is now finally personalised to my own liking!
I think I have worked it out.
Click on setting then click on general settings.
Then click on manage notification
Under you email address you will see - Email normal: allow these notifications. Click on the writing and not on the blue slide at the end.
Under notification category a little way down you will see sound. Change your notification

Traded up from Honor 8 where I was happy as a clam regarding the notification options. I had them all just right: different ringtone for each SIM, separate notifications for my email accounts and, most importantly, different tones for SMS on each of my SIMs, plus the general notification tone for everything else. Now here I am, holding my Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS and all I get is ONE notification tone for my SMS and any other notifications.
Seriously?!

Maybe someone has found the solution? I can’t believe P20 can’t set different tone for notifications and mail. It has tons of unuseful settings, but this one was essentiall! If I knew this before, I would never ever bye Huawei P20!! It’s a disaster! (
Unfortunatelly you can't.
I try all the methods above and none works.
sad but true...
Huawei is going down because of the poor software development.

Hello all.
I've had my Nex for about five days and not once have my pre-set alarms worked properly. It just passes with no noise, no vibration and no lights. Later there will be a notification that I've missed an alarm. I've found that if I set an alarm in the next few minutes, that works fine.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Graeme

I initially had the problem with my alarms not working but then I decided to use the stock clock installed on the Nex. Later I learned after having issues with my Gear Fit2 Watch always disconnected after the Gear app closed. To fix your alarm issue (and any other app/device issues) you have to go into the iManager / Permission Management / Autostart (this is where you enable any apps you want to automatically start at boot or stay in the background) and Background pop-ups. I think the reason the Vivo Nex S scored so high on benchmarks is because most apps are not enabled to run in the background... so less background noise means higher score.

The problem is we don't know the manager exists. And there's no tutorial that high lights it.
Thanks xreactx - sadly that didn't work, but you made me realise that I hadn't tried the manufacturer alarm which works fine - that'll do for me. Nice one!
Indeed, I had no idea the manager existed - nor did I on my old Xiaomi Mi Mix (if indeed it did).

Nothing helped.
Stock clock is also not reliable .
Google clock also not reliable even after enabling autostart through I manager .
Any other suggestions?
When I disable sound notification for messenger ( set it for none in OxygenOS notification settings), it keeps reseting every time I receive a message. Its annoying because I want to have ringtone enabled and other notifications enabled but I dont want any sound from messenger. How Can I fix that? I also tried to download a few seconds no sound file and set it as a notification, but it still resets.
Strange... Have you tried choose None shown in the photo for all types of notifications in Messenger?
Otherwise i guess you could change the priority of the notifications from Messenger from "important" to "other"...
I had the same problem and I found out thats a common problem on OOS since years. The only working solution is setting the prority to other.

I tried everything , I set it to "none" and It keeps restarting when im getting message, and I hear the notification.
I can't see how this is an OP problem. I just go into the Messenger settings, not the OP settings, and and set the notofication options for Messenger to what I want them to be and that's it, no problem on my OP8 (EU).

Notification settings are integrated in android 10/11 hence leading you to the OP settings. Maybe the OP can try uninstall messenger and re-install... I think i came accross a similar problem before

My friends have xiaomi, samsung, Motorola and they dont have problem like that. You can find similar threads on oneplus forum, reddit or facebook groups. I can change notification sound for any stock sound and system saves that, but when I choose "none" it is just resetting and Im getting sound notification when someone send me message or If I close app. The problem is also when I download and set my own notification sound. Previously I had 10.5.10.IN21BA and after turning off the sound for the messenger, there was no sound for 1 hour or 3 hours and suddenly after some time the notification sound turned on again.

Sorry I forgot to mention you also have to set every notification type "Minimize" to off, then it would be OK.
