Hello, almost a perfect phone just because of that. You know some albums are quieter, using spotify. And this phone have a master volume locked, and the headphone volume is very low using honor engine headphones, in Street with cars is worse. Honor 5x is aceptable volume, but 6x is waaaaay low volume.
any fix? tried some methods with "mixer volumes" file, tested on another huawei phones, and nothing.
Developers thinks in how music is so loud today, so they apply this stupid volume lock. They dont think some records are quieter, with no loudness war.
No idea on fix, but I did see headphone volume output measured in a review. It was either Tom's Hardware or phone arena and the headphone output of this phone was literally 25% of the 5x. So poor in fact that the reviewer thought it must have been a mistake. Hopefully the Nougat update will fix this.
Same with me. Huawei GR5 2017, same specs just differrent name Honor ))
I noticed the same thing (BLN-L24). I haven't tried this, but apparently you can adjust this (root needed) by changing the values in one or more xml files, like so:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47593115&postcount=2
On the 6X the file(s) are located in /system/etc/audio/ and there are a lot of them in several different directories. I only looked at a few of them briefly...when I saw how many there were I decided not to mess with it for now lol.

tried, no work. The only method is using viper4arise to get 6.0db more. and with dolby atmos too you get more volume. But the atmos app stuck in logo after a while
Try using a different headset.

Here is the review that talks about the pathetic headphone jack output of the Honor 6x. Scroll down to the very bottom.
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Honor-6X-Review_id4303/page/3
Headphones output power (Volts)
Higher is better
honor 6x 0.152
honor 8 0.42
honor 5X 0.52
As you can see, there is something VERY wrong with the output of the Honor 6x.

Dear All,
I have Mate 7 MT7-L10 but the call receiver volume is too low even if it is set at its maximum. Can any one have some mod to increase its volume??
Please help.
The Mate 7 is very loud. Volume enough already two-thirds. Surely that is not defective speaker?

The Mate 7 has a low volume output even when all volume controls are set to maximum and the in-pocket mode is set. I found this to be true on the in-store demo models (3 units in different stores and countries) and my own unit. The ring volume and alert volumes are also lower than they should be. If one is in a quiet environment ok, but in a noisier environment, they are way too low. Perhaps Huawei should tweak the appropriate firmware to manage this problem.

Yes very right all other things are perfect in this model except low volume which can be managed by tweaking through firmware. As I have a Note 3 and was planning to buy Note 4 but I am quite satisfy with Mate 7 except this low volume issue.
I agree that the volume is low compared to other high end phones.
Has anyone found a solution yet to increase call volume when using headphones on the Mate 7? I am barely able to hear the other party during calls, even at the maximum setting.
I don't know what is the problem in your unit. Believe me this phone is the highest volume, I have ever seen. I have to reduce the volume so that other people don't listen to conversation even without speakers off.

Using the headset or the earpiece? I'm talking of using the headset. The output of the 3.5mm jack is far too low.
I found a solution, btw. I deleted the /system/etc/audio/codec folder and tadaaa - output appears at least twice as loud, both during calls and when listening to music. Previously, I had to set my car's stereo to volume setting 25 (I usually use 15 when listening to the radio) to be able to hear something on the autobahn, now I only need to set it to 12-15.
So there definitely was an issue with output on the headphone jack, and for my device it is now solved.

Hello
I went to Sam Smith's concert in Lille (France) tuesday, tried to record a short extract of his performance but the sound is horrible. My girlfriend has an iPhone 5S and the sound quality is perfect.
Do you experience a ****ty sound quality in noisy sound conditions too ?
How to fix that ?
Sample Honor 6 : https://plus.google.com/117302260800656329753/posts/4pw7ufZNRSJ?pid=6132892992149710754&oid=117302260800656329753

Not sure how you're supposed to enjoy a concert being a static tripod.
Thanks daddy but you dont solve the problem of thé sound recording on Honor 6 in loud environement being terrible
I don't play for that team sorry...

Back in the days when I had a Galaxy S4, with Cyanogen i had the same issue but with stock rom no problem
I think they didn't optimize the "drivers" for the phone, but it's lame
A 300€ device should not have this kind of issue

I'm not the person to ask this. It's just that Huawei haven't tested the microphone under those circumstances and many other phones and cameras have the same problem.
I edit sample rate at etc/media profiles from 48000KHZ to 44100 as they say and the prob still exist.Even moto e records perfect sound...I'm already thinking changing to meizu mx4 and i really don't want to change it..
Does the microphone issue has a fix?
Hi,
I am looking to buy this phone and already got some good feedback on the battery side. The camera I have seen some nice or good enough photos, now the matter of sound...
This issue with the microphone is quite worrying. I do not record a lot of video, but if I wanted to I want to make sure I get some nice clear audio in the recorded video. Does anyone know if this issue has a fix? I haven't seen this posted anywhere, so maybe someone has done some research better than me and found a workaround. Maybe the latest OTA fixed the issue or some of the custom roms don't have the issue?
Do we have a solution for this?Did Huawei answered?
Hi!
Have another problem: when I call to someone or pick up the phone, people with whom I spoke complained of poor audibility. But in the dictophone mode microphone level still stay absolutely normal. Looks like as program error.
Reflash & customize my phone regular, may be something wrong ((
Now I make 3-th button restore to 5.9.1 without any customization, recieve auto update to 5.9.16, but no luck.
Any idea, please?

The microphone quality on the Honour 6 Plus is also very poor when using Bluetooth handsfree.
Have tried this with many different handsfree car kits and car stereos.
It would appear the the noise reduction algorithm is reducing the mic gain with the result that the mic audio level is about 15% of what it should be. This makes it extremely difficult for callers to hear what is being said.
Phone has been replaced.
Have tried 4.4 and 5.1 - no difference
For such a fantastic phone this is a massive oversight. Looking at the Mate 8 (when it appears), but worried may have same issue
Have emailed Hauwei support about issue, but there is no resolution
Hi, so I bought the Honor 8 FRD-L04 (US version) and from the beggining I have a problem that drive me nuts! The volume on this phone suck. By Bluetooth or by the headphone jack, nothing is different. I've tried the same songs and headsets with my old OnePlus One or my Alienware laptop and the volume is a lot more louder. On this phone the volume is up to the maximum and the music just begin to be loud.
I try everything I could imagine, except resetting it. What I do wrong with this?
I even tried to talk the customers services but they this isn't a problem of the phone! They said that I need the original headset or it will not work! So I said to them that the phone you buy from Newegg doesn't come with the original headset in the box...
Anyway hope someone will have the solution! Thanks
I think what people interpret as loud is subjective. I came from the Galaxy Note 7 and I feel the sound is comparable. The Note 7 had a more tinny sound due to the water resistance but it was clearer. The Honor 8, I feel is as loud but distorts at increased volume on calls (pressing volume up once more at the max volume) and sometimes in YouTube videos with the highs (mids and lows are OK). Using headphones, I have never been one to use volume past 3/4. It just starts hurting my ears.
You may want to try to go into Best Buy or someplace that has the phone on display and test it out compared to yours. Maybe you have a defective unit. Good luck!
If you are rooted, try Viper4Android. If not, there are plenty of music players with powerful amps in the Play Store. I recommend JetAudio and PlayerPro.

Note that I never talked about the speaker on the device itself. Always by auxiliary cord or Bluetooth. You didn't understand what I'm trying to say: on my OnePlus one at 3/4 of the volume it hurt my ear, on this phone, when the volume maxed out, the loudness is comparable to OnePlus one at 40%.
Hope it make my problem more clear now.

Have you tried with another unit just to check if you got a defective unit?
Also a backup, factory reset and restore?
Are you on the B150 firmware? The update notes said they improved something with audio playback.
In relatively quiet environments I have to turn down media volume to around half or it seems needlessly loud to me. I have a hard time hearing in noisier environments. Calls have been fine (I typically only make ~1min long calls that are straightforward with the person I'm speaking with already knowing why). Youtube playback can get drowned out by passing cars/trucks or my work's incessant, ****ty music.

Yes I saw these changes when I first updated it. Calls are ok I guess, but the multimedia volume is lacking of power for me. There is one thing I now is weird is when I put my headphone port on mono audio (in accessibility option), the power become more louder! That's why I'm thinking it's a firmware bugs but aren't sure of this enough.
Anyway thanks again

Every manufacturer will try to convince you. You should ask them again and again.
If you are not good in English, take a friend with you and speak.
Compare with any other Honor 8 phone with yours.
Did you go to the service centre by yourself? Or spoke through a call.. If you have gone with the second option, I would say that first option is far better to make him understand.

Well I'm pretty good to understand in English. To speak it's more har for me but up to today I've been able to be understood. I called them multiple times even to a higher rank employee. Here in Canada we do not have any real support because Honor isn't present here... They are only in the US, so I did not get the free 3 months screen waranty. Plus, going to a service center by myself? The only one is in Ontario. It's about 5 hours of traveling in a car, so I think that by calls is my best option. Anyway thanks for the help.
This week I will backup my data and reset it after.
Anyone else experiencing pretty crappy audio quality when streaming music over Bluetooth?
Fully stock and had the phone for a week now.
Thanks!
Damn, no one else experiencing this?
Just got my phone today and set them up with my Sony headphones since I saw your post and they sound fine. Having said that I'm not an audio file so you might notice more than I. Tomorrow I will try them with my Beats and car but so far so good.
I wouldn't quite consider myself an audiophile either, however the tingy sound I was hearing in my car was becoming unbearable. I have been using an AUX cable while I continue researching the bluetooth settings of the phone. Hopefully your's sounds good in your car as well though and I have a hardware issue that I just need to get replaced.
good sound here, music or call on Kenwood head unit via Bluetooth is ok
Yeah, so I may just be sensitive to the quality. I just tested with some BT headphones I have, the audio is noticeably more clear when using the AUX cable rather than the BT connection. My most recent daily phone was the Nexus 6 which must have had a better BT radio (or codecs)
I came also from nexus 6 and there are no noticeable differences between the two.
I just received mine yesterday and from a couple hours of listening I would say the Bluetooth audio is decent. My problem with the Bluetooth is that it won't pair with my fitbit charge 2 so I'm thinking about returning it.
My FitBit Charge HR is syncing, albeit slow, but does still sync.
Yes, small tingly, static. Electronic artifacts in a song using Samsung level u pro. In the background. This dont occur in another Android phone
tested on a dell venue Tablet, Android. And the quality is dramatically better (no noticeable bitrate artifacts). You can test it with aretha franklin - lover come back to me, and hear the differences in the RIGHT channel
this is a bitrate problem i think. sounds like 64kbps

I think this will be fixed with a custom rom, i remember CM13 have the Bluetooth.so lib fixed, and very high quality. I hope the same for lineage OS

Thanks for the link! Looks like they only have the original OS image for my model on there but that is fine.
I am hoping the same for the custom OS world. Doesn't seem like a lot of folks have started dev on this phone yet but they may be waiting for the new EMUI 5.0
Just a follow-up. Been using the new EMUI 5.0 for a few days now and no luck on Bluetooth quality increase.
The same here with my honor 6x BLN-L24. I have bitrate artifacts on treble. Always no fix ?
Having the exact same problem with my Honor 6X BLN-L21. Did somebody figure out a solution yet? Bluetooth is pretty much unlistenable like this.

So far I have just been living with a rooted phone and running Viper Audio. With the settings tuned right the quality sounds bearable but I am keeping fingers crossed a good solid ROM will come out that can fix this.
Anyone else get a static hiss when a sound plays through headphones? I've tried multiple pairs and it happens with all of them on my device. You can notice it easily after pausing a song, that static noise sound will be there for 2 seconds and then stop, only to restart when audio any sort of audio is output again. Anyone else having this? Really disappointed.
I've tried it on two different honor 6x phones now and it happens on both, so not a fault on mine. Unfortunate that none of the users want to come forward and admit this problem.
Have you tried cleaning the headphone jack? Or using a different media player app?
Ya bro... I too hearit... it's very mild...
After reading this thread I noticed it...
:good: Good finding...
Try some equalizers.

It's a brand new Honor 6x, the jack does not need cleaning. Also I've tried it on a a new replacement 6x, still happening.

EQ would not make any difference. The problem occurs when audio is activated but no sound is output. So play a video or song with the volume set to 0 and you will hear a hiss. It was a poor design putting the headphone jack on top where you will get a lot of interference.

I sold an Honor 6X to my friend last February. BLN-L24 variant. He isn't complaining of any hiss until now.

How do you know he just hasn't noticed it? Tell him to try playing music with the sound at 0, then it will be impossible for them not to notice

Interesting as past mobile devices always had the headset jack on the top. I've never heard those devices experiencing this issue..
Checking this. Will confirm soon
Yeah i hear that too, nice catch but sincerely it's irrelevant to me. I used to hear it too on my S4 Mini on both CyanogenMod 13/LineageOS 14, maybe it's an innate thing on Android OS.
What to do?
Same problem on my P9 Lite 2017 and Honor 9 Lite. And I am not alone. People has getting faced the same issue on different phones:

I tried to flash another kernel and it doesn't work. Remained:
- Another rom (Lineageos etc.)
- Bluetooth headphone.
Btw when I try to use usb c dac cable, there is no static noise anymore. But usb c dac cable isn't useful. Beacause the phone has micro usb port.
