Rooted with old firmware trouble installing custom ROM's - General Questions and Answers

I'v done a ton of reading and plan to get good at this.. I have been having ALOT of trouble trying to install various custom ROM's. I get no further than stuck on the splash screen. I have a backup and reinstall it without any trouble after each of my failed attempts using TWRP v2.8.6.0, mind you after installing TWRP the first time i was stuck in a boot loop and had to try older? versions until one worked but had to dial *#2663# and fix the inverted display.
I read somewhere that the kernal needs to match the firmware, could my problem be extremely out of date Kernal, Baseband or Bootloader as my phone has been rooted for quite some time running stock firmware without any updates.. Thinking about unrooting so my phone takes the latest update and re routing.. I'm kinda lost here..
Here is some of the information from my phone..
Samsung S6 920w8
Android 5.0.2
Kernal 3.10.61-4808800
AP: G920W8VLUV1AOE1
CP: G920W8VLUV1AOE1
CSC: G920W80YA1AOE1
Thanks for your help and advice

Anxious to get a custom ROM working.. can someone guide me?

So im assuming i just messed up myself here

I got this s6 back in march or april and it was on 5.0.2 and well now that iv've updated to the OTAS 5.1.1 OFE i was curious about root and i continued with a thread about rooting it and etc
( i kinda regret that now, i shouldve stayed on 5.0.2)
but the main reason i rooted was to recover files and welli did but i installed dr fone on my computer it asked for my phones root permissions so i went ahead and rooted it but after a bit i noticed it started to freeze my phone and after a bit it just stopped working.
i turn it on and restart it i see a blue led cycling and i see the sprint spark screen but it does nothing from there.
and so i stupidly went to to stock recovery, wiped cache, and factory resetting it and now idk what to do
there isnt an OFE stock tar yet so i cant fix this on my own, im just thinking if i flash twrp right now and then flash a custom rom will that work?? for my OFE build
am i able to or should i just download the stock tar 5.0.2 to reflash it or will that just basically brick me completely??
also i did have insurance for this and i thnink i just blew that one too :/
ive noticed mine said this
G920PVPU2BOFE
and not G920PVPU2BOF7
so does that mean im able to use the stock firmware from the website and reflash it or like what do i do...
SO what i did countless of researching
i ended up having the
custom binary blocked by FRP lock, by forgetting to unlock oem before updating the Twisted Projects SuperSu or User since it asked me to updated i ovbiously just went ahead of myself and that happened thus into this Boot Loop Soft
and im flashing with ODIN the stock 5.1.1 OF7 tar its surprisingly working. ( i was originally on the OFE OTA tho.)
unlike the Twisted Project custom roms, kernel and or twrp setup, i couldnt boot into the twrp or even past the android screen, and well the only option i had was just Download Mode.
And this basically saved me.
Very Informative

[Completed] Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005- ROM/Root Help

So not being very experienced at Rooting/Flashing Roms this may come across strange.
Here is a little background to my problem.
I had a rooted Note 3 running KitKat before I decided to flash to Lolipop. I downloaded the Vodafone (UK) variant of the ROM from Sammobile not thinking anything of it at the time (As I am on Vodafone) I went through the usual procedure of going into download mode running Odin as admin and then connecting my phone, adding the Rom files to Odin and then Flashing. Flashing started fine as it got towards the end it Failed on Hidden(Something).
I panicked didn't know what to do so I unplugged my device and tried to reboot. It didn't. It said something along of the lines as there is a firmware error and got stuck on that screen. Panicked some more, decided I would try to google a fix. Came across one which required me to flash CWM Recovery onto my phone. I thought I would try it, Once it flashed which went fine I was told too try and boot straight into recovery mode once the phone starts and reboot through there. I took out my battery put it back in and then went ahead and tried to boot into recovery which worked. Once on CWM I went to reboot the phone As I hit yes too reboot It took me to another screen where it said I wasn't rooted and if I would like to reroot. I decided to click NO and restart the phone. It got stuck on a boot loop, I did a factory reset and cache wipe and it booted into life. (And working fine so far)
So here is where the problem is.
I am looking to get root back to the device. I think I have a locked boot loader as I installed the Vodafone variant of the 5.0 Rom. Would I be able to Flash the BTU Rom onto my device without bricking it, and after that would I be able to root Via CFAutoRoot which seems to be the easiest way to so. Or could I flash with CFAutoRoot Straight onto this ROM.
Info:
BTU ROM:
Date Country/Carrier Version PDA CSC
2015-07-01 United Kingdom 5.0 N9005XXUGBOF1 N9005BTUGBOD2
ROM I INSTALLED:
Date Country/Carrier Version PDA CSC
2015-06-01 United Kingdom (Vodafone) 5.0 N9005XXUGBOD6 N9005VFGGBOD2
Thanks for any help in advance.

Marshmallow for Samsung Edge SM-915F - Rom can not be updated

Hello I am looking for and have been trying to get one of the momentarily available version of the marshmallow running on my Edge. So far without any success.
I am now running a 5.01 version with custom rom. I applied the new bootloader from mickey387 in order to install roms, mack backups etc. Then I tried to get a newer Rom like the following running, so far without success:
Galaxy-NoTEdge-1.0BETA2
N915F-DPC7Binh24_Deodex
DBT-N915FYXXU1DPE1-20160524112616
The problem is that when trying to apply for example the DBT version, the recovery stopps and is not going to install it. The NotEdge could be installed but resulted in a bootloop. The DPC7 version i currently downloading, so I could not really test it.
What could be the problem ? Do I have to downgrade first to another "Stockrom" or do I need to upgrade to another newer version abbove 5.01 and after that to the version 6 ?
I f so could anyone help me or point me in the right directions ? Here are the programms and tools I already have on my computer:
BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247
Odin3_v3.11.1
twrp_3.0-915F-915FY-915G-915V.tar
twrp_3.0-915F_FY_G.zip
Kernel6.0.1.tar
Sboot.6.0.1.tar
N915F-DPC7Binh24_Deodex.zip
DBT-N915FYXXU1DPE1-20160524112616.zip
Galaxy-NoTEdge-1.0BETA2.zip
With the Deodex Rom the following occurs:
with the deodex after flashing boot runs only into recovery mode, no restart to phone menu.

S6 SM-G920f stuck on samsung logo after trying to install xposed framework

hey all
I did a basic root on my samsung galaxy s6 a few days ago. just installed superSu and gave me root access. after that I installed TWRP which I then used to try and install the xposed framework. From then on my phone is stuck on the samsung screen saying kernel is not seandroid enforcing. I downloaded the stock rom for my phone (sm-g920F on 6.01) and attempted to flash it via odin 3.07 but it always failed after the sboot.
i have searched to try and find a solution but nothing I can find will work. can anyone help?
so i got my s6 working after flashing a full stock firmware i found via a link on this forum (i forget which one...sorry)
it gave me BL_G920FXXU3DPBG_CL7086820_QB8626574_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
AP_G920FXXU3DPBG_CL7086820_QB8626574_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CP_G920FXXU3DPB6_CL7086820_QB8569466_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CSC_BTU_G920FBTU3DPB1_CL7140831_QB8460122_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
it also recommended that I flash the pit file ZEROFLTE_EUR_OPEN.pit.
this was all done via the latest version of odin. initially, the flashing failed at cm.bin so I reflashed omitting the bootloader and all seemed to be well.
My phone set up fine and then I realised that it will not recognise my sim...or any sim for that matter. in settings under sim card status...every entry is listed as unavailable. IMEI is unknown as is baseband version.
i realise that I have obviously messed up big time with the initial flashing (uhuh....backup...backup....backup) but I would really like some help to get my phone back up and running as a ...well...phone.
any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.
thanks in advance x

Try smart switch. Not sure if it could restore the imei but it could bring the phone back to original csc when you bought it.

galaxy J7 Helplessly bootlooping

I am asking for help if anybody here can spare the time. I had my J700P Virgin Mobile rooted and xpose installed. I had notification that I had missed at least one update and wanted to go back to original firmware. I flashed back to original version of firmware no problem and the phone took the update. After the update I was unable to get wifi working again so I tried to reflash the original firmware. Phone flashed fine but when trying to reboot the phone is stuck in bootloop. I have reflashed the original firmware and the new updated firmware several times, tried to restore 3 TWRP backups, everything I can think of and all bootloop. I get the bootup screen - galaxy J7 then it goes to the samsung screen then to the Virgin Mobile screen then loops over and over. Every so many loops it goes to android starting up screen optimizing various numbers of apks, usually 1 of 1. I can do pretty much anything needed, use odin, access adb ect. Any other info needed please let me know. I am at the end of my knowledge on what to do-----HELP!!!!!!! Thanks.

restoring a twrp backup breaks the phone. go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j7/development/twrp-3-0-2-0-beta-j700p-2016-fixed-t3485766 and follow the steps for fixing your efs. then you could flash stock rom again.
Bootloop fix
That did the trick!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the wizard of the day. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. I'm trying everyday to learn because I like to tinker with these expensive toys. You saved me a lot of scouring over endless piles of info.
