I used the shower trick to apply a screen protector to my tablet about a week ago. I recently noticed some marks on the screen and I wasn't sure if it was between the screen protector and the tablet itself, or under the tablet. I removed the screen protector and the marks are just as visible, so they are indeed under the screen.
I tried submerging it in rice inside a sealed ziplock baggie for a couple of days, but there was not effect. I realized that trick is typically used when someone drops their phone/tablet in water and need to have the water absorbed from it. Since my problem is just a few spots on the screen, I figured there must be a quicker and more accurate solution.
When I press on the marks, I don't really see them moving, so I'm not sure if there is still water underneath it or if the marks are the result of some kind of damage. Because the marks are fairly small, it is difficult to see if they do move when pressed since my finger obstructs the view.
What would be the best way to remove them?

Just a word of warning...and I know this was prevalent with the Evo and a few other HTCs.
I carefully went to apply a high-er quality screen protector, and used a very small amount of water/soap mixture to set it properly. When I squeegeed the water out, almost all of it went directly through the screen where the earpiece is. It then proceeded to get trapped between the actual LCD panel and the glass screen. It seeped all the way down the screen.
After researching, I put the phone in a bowl of dry rice and put a heat lamp over it. The water dried out, but it left a large wavy line along where the edge of the water stopped. Brought it to sprint and they ended up swapping it out for me, but just wanted to give a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up! I ordered a screen protector and was going to apply it the same exact way.
So I just took out my sensation from the box and noticed the stock screen protector was off set and already peeling back a great amount on the top corner. I looked closely and noticed that the small tab at the top of the screen protector is actually inside the ridge of the phone, in that small thin crack where the front-screen ends. That was what cause the screen protector to not lay flat and started bending inward. I slowly peeled the protector back and when it came to the part that was "stuck" or jammed into the crack it took a good tug (I guess it was the adhesive...or it was really in there) for it to pop out. This couldn't have done any damage right? The small crack leads to nothing does it?
Probably just means it got caught in the gap when being fitted. I assume when you say 'crack' you mean the gap where the screen meets the rest of the body of the phone?
Yeah, where the black part ends.
Also, I have removed it and replaced it on more accurately since then and noticed it sticks to the screen very well, even attaching itself to parts that I have not even smoothed my fingers over yet, must be the static? Are there any disadvantages in using this as opposed to buying a new screen protector?
If it works then continue using it. We don't get them pre-fitted in the UK so I bought a 3rd party one
edit: delete this thread please mod thank you
I bought an HTC Evo 4G LTE on Friday along with a screen protector and a case. Anyway, I'm no good at putting on the screen protectors, so I asked the phone guy at best buy to put it on. Fast forward to this evening and I noticed what appeared to be 3 small specks of dust that got under the protector, with a larger one. As I was inspecting them, I found that they were actually tiny black circles (think speck of dust size or even dead pixel size). I'm going to be taking the phone back tomorrow for a replacement, but in the meantime, I'm curious what these are? I've done a lot of googling and the closest two pieces of information I've been able to find say they are either dead pixels because they are about the right size and show up best against a white background, or that they are moisture damage.
The question is, which seems most likely? Can dead pixels manifest themselves as circles rather than squares? And also could moisture damage be so minimal that only four little spots appeared? I should point out that the screen protector was the variety that uses a liquid sprayed on the phone to ensure a good clean overlay on the screen, and also that the salesperson used some blasts of compressed air directly on the screen to try and clean it before applying the protector (I've heard thats a big no-no).
I had a similar problem once with a no name chinese tab.
I noticed a bunch of black spots (square) the size of dead pixels all over the screen. I removed the protector and wiped the screen clean. It was tiny specks of dust indeed.
While blowing hot air onto the screen is a big NO-NO, IMO blowing compressed air wouldn't cause damage. Its the heat that damages the LCDs.
Curious how specks of dust would produce that effect, considering they are not uniformly shaped. Anyway, I've got my fingers crossed now that the problem really is dust rather than a bad screen, since I would hate to start this new phone off the same way I started my last one (returned for defective hardware / software 3 times in 3 months).
Thanks for the input and I'll be sure to post up the results tomorrow when I take the phone into the store. I've already discussed it with the store and since the salesperson was the one who installed the protector, if it turns out to be dust, they will replace the $25 protector free.
Turns out it was dust, or some other contamination, but it was UNDER the screen so that, while you could see them with the phone turned off, you couldn't get at them in any way. Home now with a replacement phone, but as my first experience with HTC, I'm not super impressed...
my screen has this 3 marks across (something like when u swipe across the screen with a dirty finger and it leaves the print of swipe) which is caused by the Samsung screen protection film that you have to peel off when you first get your phone. but I had left it on as I have yet to buy a screen protector and occasionally it would peel off but I would just press it back and I guess that's how I got the 3 lines at the place where it peeled off and I stuck it back after finally deciding to do without that film thing.
I've been trying to remove the marks thus I used a micro fibre cloth to wipe the screen and also tried using scotch tape on it too. it would disappear but after using it awhile it would return again which gets quite irritating as sometimes it would be noticeable when the screen is off under the sun. I'm currently refraining from using alcohol wipes as I heard it damages the oleophobic coating.
Was wondering if anyone has any idea how else to remove the marks. anything would be appreciated thanks!
Edit: finally managed to get pictures of the streaks that wont disappear. http://imgur.com/a/yPoxw
Hi all,
So my U11 got finger prints all over the screen, and I noticed a line, which I thought was some hard dirt or glue, and thought oh must be from the manufacturing process.
I cleaned the screen, marks gone, happy days.
Then I noticed, as soon as my finger prints get onto the screen it re-appears and it led me to the conclusion that the area must not have the oleophobic coating on it. I've got the phone replaced as it was bugging me that my brand new device was in this condition.
The screen WAS NOT scratched, it had no scratch mark, literally there was a 25mm x 2mm area that didn't have the coating applied., and the mark only became apparent when oils came into contact with it.
Im afraid no pics as I noticed on my way to work, and had the phone swapped the same day...
And my second unit has the issue in two spots, but no way as pronounced as the previous unit. So I'll stick a screen protector on and forget about it all.

There has been a few reports just like this in the megathread. Same shape of production mark, both front and back glass.
