Screen flicker problem - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

I've searched the forum and completed several google searches using various words or phrases, but nothing comes close to my question.
Anyone having screen flicker issues on auto brightness? I've had my phone 4 days and have continually observed the screen incessantly increase and decease in brightness, particularly noticeable at night, probably because I'm finally able to sit down with the device.
Along with aggressive memory management closing apps I want open and the long in the tooth notification isssue, I'm up i the air as to keeping the phone.
Kindly chime in, maybe I just got a lemon.

Few Issues - Help!

Hey all.
Got my Touch Cruise recently and so far my experiences are mixed. Here's some of the problems I've had - maybe someone can suggest fixes?
1. Battery life is awful. With Wi-fi enabled I get at most 2 days out of a full charge.
2. Screen sensitivity is poor. Even with the stylus a lot of times I have to press the same key twice or the accuracy isn't 100% - very annoying when sending text messages.
3. When on a call the screen goes into standby meaning you can't easily turn on the speakerphone, mute/hold it etc. I've tried turning off all the power saving options I can find but it still happens.
4. Ring volume levels aren't great. Annoying when I'm out and about or in the car with the stereo turned up.
5. Backlight is very poor outside, or even in the car - basically anywhere where it's exposed to sunlight.
I've changed the UI to the SPB one as I was recommended to do on another forum, and it helps a bit, but to be honest I'm very close to selling it on unless I can get the above issues fixed.
Any ideas? Thanks!
You should check out the many posts on this forum, many of them address your concerns. I'll see if I can take a crack at them:
1) Yes battery life is not great, I wouldn't leave Wifi turned on all day. The less stuff you are using the better, for example if you're not using Bluetooth don't leave it on. Same for the WLAN. Don't have applications constantly making data connections either (prob not applicable if you're on the wifi). An example of such an application would be the weather app. Search the forums for tips on improving battery life.
2) There are registry key entries that improve the touch sensitivity of the screen and TouchFLO. Try this thread as a start. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355277
3) There's a registry entry for this, don't use Kaiser Tweak. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355230
4) Are you sure the ring volume is to the max? Is the ringtone itself loud? I'm pretty sure there's reg entries for this too, check out the tips and tweaks thread.
5) Yeah if sunlight is hitting it directly the screen is not very visible. Try turning the brightness up to the max. Supposedly there are screen protectors out there that minimize the effect of glare although I haven't personally tried any except for the stock protector.
Overall your best bet is to read the forums and use the search function. You will almost always find someone who has asked the same question in the past. And welcome to xda. HTH.

Normal for brightness to change in steps?

I'm new to tablets and Android. TF700 is first tablet. When I click on something that changes the overall brightness of the screen I notice it often does it in several stages taking several seconds. For example, my backdrop is dark. If I bring up an applications that has a whitish background the screen lightens in several stages taking about 3-4 seconds to get to the brightness it wants. It's harder to see, but I also notice that when I go back to the dark backdrop it also takes a few seconds to settle into the final darkness. Is this normal? It doesn't always do it but I've seen it quite often across various applications (so I know it's not an applications specific thing). I generally keep the tablet off auto-brightness because auto-brightness is so dark I can hardly see it! I have the tablet set to power-saver level also.
It has been discussed here dozens of times, see this thread for a recent addition with links to original posts pointing to the solution mentioned.

Screen Brightness Problem

Has anybody else experienced their screens changing brightness randomly?
I have mine set to full brightness and it will randomly get slightly dimmer for a few seconds up to a minute before going back to the original brightness.
It's sorta hard to notice unless you're looking at an image with a lot of white (Play Store, webpages, etc.)
My first N5, which I RMA'd for other defects, also did this.
Any guesses if it's a software or hardware issue?
Derp, just found this thread that answers my question: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2516915
Lock this thread if you so please, mods.

Anyone else's S7 waking up randomly?

My screen will turn itself on every now and then, I can't seem to find anything consistent about what causes it to do this. Maybe some app I have installed is causing it but I've never had the issue on other devices (ambient display is set to off in my case)

It sometimes happens to my phone too. I don't know what causes it. And I have no problem about battery drain, I have just used phone for 1d2h33m35s with 6h20m screen on time. It was happenig to me in S5 too. I use same apps. I think an app causes it.
Mine woke up twice yesterday in the middle of the night, definitely strange.
Yeah I wish there was some place to see what apps have recently used wake lock or keep awake permissions to see if it's something I installed or what. I disabled most samsung bloat and use mostly just the google apps and then a few casual games like hearthstone
I have disabled lots of Google apps and Samsung bloatware since I use phome first day. Maybe we all disabled one wrong app
Mine does it too occasionally
Mine does as well. At one point it stopped and battery was much better, but it has started again.
yeah I'm pretty bare bones when it comes to android phones, I like minimal background apps and go for battery life and speed. still can't figure out what on earth is waking my s7
I am having the same problem with my Galaxy s7 edge. it will randomly wake the lock screen, even when not getting a notification. Its really anoying. I was also having a problem with the screen lighting up when I recieved a text message using Verizons message + app. changed to samsung message and had the same problem, even with notifcations turned off! finally got it to stop by using google messages, but now when my phone is face down it doesnt do the cool light up on the edge. really frustrating.

display staying on

Ok so have noticed another issue with my phone that I can't say happens every time but more often than I would like and enough for me to notice.
It seems that when my phone gets a notification be it a Google notification (weather/news etc) or email or face book etc my screen wakes up (which is fine by me) but then stays illuminated. It stays this way until I read/swipe it away.
This is more noticeable at night when it's on charge and I happen to wake and find the screen is illuminated still.
I have checked and the option to "wake screen when notification comes in " is switched off so it's not this.
Anyone else have an issue like this/noticed this?
Yes, I have exactly the same issue. It consistently does this when charging, and unplugging the charger allows the lock screen to fade out, as it should always do.
Haven't had this issue on my device & I can't seem to replicate it, but hopefully it's fixed with the August update as a saw a few users have reported this to the ColorOS community
I have this issue, very annoying. Any fix?

Someone reported that it's related to the Google Clock app. It is annoying and I've also reported this to the Color OS community. Several times I've woken up to find my screen on and if my device suffers screen burn-in because of this, I shall be making a warranty claim due to a software issue and being not fit for purpose! I am not in a position to uninstall G Clock as I rely on it for several assistant routines associated with my alarm. This issue needs to be fixed, along with several others!
