Anyone else's S7 waking up randomly? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

My screen will turn itself on every now and then, I can't seem to find anything consistent about what causes it to do this. Maybe some app I have installed is causing it but I've never had the issue on other devices (ambient display is set to off in my case)

It sometimes happens to my phone too. I don't know what causes it. And I have no problem about battery drain, I have just used phone for 1d2h33m35s with 6h20m screen on time. It was happenig to me in S5 too. I use same apps. I think an app causes it.

Mine woke up twice yesterday in the middle of the night, definitely strange.

Yeah I wish there was some place to see what apps have recently used wake lock or keep awake permissions to see if it's something I installed or what. I disabled most samsung bloat and use mostly just the google apps and then a few casual games like hearthstone

I have disabled lots of Google apps and Samsung bloatware since I use phome first day. Maybe we all disabled one wrong app

Mine does it too occasionally

Mine does as well. At one point it stopped and battery was much better, but it has started again.

yeah I'm pretty bare bones when it comes to android phones, I like minimal background apps and go for battery life and speed. still can't figure out what on earth is waking my s7

I am having the same problem with my Galaxy s7 edge. it will randomly wake the lock screen, even when not getting a notification. Its really anoying. I was also having a problem with the screen lighting up when I recieved a text message using Verizons message + app. changed to samsung message and had the same problem, even with notifcations turned off! finally got it to stop by using google messages, but now when my phone is face down it doesnt do the cool light up on the edge. really frustrating.

Light flow problems

So a while ago I saw a forum post about light flow actually draining battery like crazy. Im just here to ask if it still has a tendency to do this? and also is there a way to customize it so every time I get a text message my screen does not turn on? I did some searching on google and apparently a lot of peoples screens turn on when getting a text message.

Unfortunately there are still a bunch of problems with lightflow that need to be worked out on the US versions of the S3 ( like our Verizon version). I to have the problem where the screen turns on when I get a text. As far as battery drain under battery usage it only shows 3-4% of the battery usage.
Take a look at this post from the makers of light flow on their progress for the US versions:

The screen turning on is a Samsung messenger thing. Always happens sadly. You can however use handcent SMS. You can also control if the screen turns on or not when receiving a text, currently its the only third party messenger that works with our phone led..

Not Getting Notifications - 5.0.1

Hi,
My nexus 5 does not show/get messages from Whatsapp after the phone screen has been locked and not woken up for a while. This is happening on 3G. This seems to be happening during the afternoon. It's not really anything to do with the time I guess.. probably only because the phone is least used while im at work.
Battery saver is off and no such battery saving apps are in use
Anyone else facing this issue ?
Thanks!
Check if you have priority notifications enabled.
Hint: Check for a Star icon in the top right corner.
Check if you have restricted data for Google Services or any other Google/System related app

Bluetooth turns screen on

When I get into my car and my bluetooth headunit connects with my Z3, the screen decides to turn on... for no reason whatsoever. I've disabled apps, tried setting up tasker to turn the screen on after a few seconds... yet nothing seems to work.
Why is this happening? I never had this with my Z2, it really sucks when my phone is in my pocket and I just want to drive, instead I get random actions, and even at one point pocket dialed people.
I hate to reply with anything but a solution, but this is an ongoing issue for me as well. It doesn't seem like it's solvable without a custom kernel. After I rooted my Z1C and installed SlimKat, it stopped happening. Since I got my Z3 I haven't been able to figure it out at all. The closest I got was to install a custom lock screen and have Tasker check for BT Connected and [custom lockscreen] started then wait 1 ms and turn the screen off. That used a ton of battery. I guess it's a solution if you find a way to stop the battery drain. Went from 5+ SoT to less than 3 in a day.
Bumping the topic.. exact same problem. Very very irritating. Battery drains out without even my knowing it. Seems like a serious bug.

push notifications intermittently fail to come through while screen is off

This problem shows up periodically when I leave my S7 stationary on a desk or table while in discharge mode. I found an xda thread describing the exact symptoms, but for the S6. My phone is an S7, of course. That S6 thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/help/push-notifications-stop-screen-off-t3071248
I have my device set so notifications will appear on the lock screen. And under Settings > Notifications I have about 5 apps set for priority mode. That works consistently to bring notifications from those apps to the top of the notification list. The problem is that occasionally when the screen turns off --not consistently-- all push notifications are suppressed until I turn on the screen again. At this point, all of the suppressed, pending notifications fire off their associated alert sounds and each of their alert banners pop onto the lock screen. I can never know when the notifications are going to be suppressed like this when I toggle off the screen or when it times out on its own.
Am I the only one who experiences this issue on the S7? I had possession of some other S7's some months back and at least two of them demonstrated similar intermittent push notification behavior. However, I had no idea exactly what was happening at the time (i.e, whether it was the individual apps malfunctioning or perhaps a lagging issue with the servers/networks they were using). But from my experience to date, it appears that the absence of notifications on those devices during screen off mode may have been the same issue.
There was a great deal of concern about this within the S6 thread I've cited above. But no definite solutions were given; the general hope was that a future update would correct the problem on the S6 and that the S7 with android 6 marshmallow would hopefully not include the intermittent notification problem. If I've missed an informative thread on this issue relevant to the S7 (or the S7 edge) please direct me accordingly.
Thanks
Used to happen with my S5, afaik it's Marshmallows new low power mode, 'Dose' that causes it as it didn't happen with Lollipop

In that case, how is the best way to disable this mode? Package Disabler perhaps? And why am I the only one who seems to have posted about this matter as far as the S7? Timely notifications are pretty important... so I would think that if this were a typical power saving side effect on the S7 that many S7 owners would be speaking out about the notification lapses. It's fairly puzzling.
Thanks
Dose being the cause is just my take on it, I couldn't think of anything else it could be with my S5 either, and as I said it never happened with Lollipop, and Dose only arrived with Marshmallow, so I put two and two together
Not sure you can disable Dose, other than have something running in the background causing a wakelock, which would drain your battery
Might be something else causing it, but I couldn't see any other explanation
Something I did notice though was if the phone was on 4G Data instead of WiFi, notifications were instant, but I was only on 4G while I was out, and when the phone is moving, dose doesn't work, it has to be completely stationary

Hmm... in my case it is happening exclusively on 4G without wifi running. So maybe it's something else. Most of the time notifications come though immediately. I'd say that during only about 10 or 20% of the phone's stationary time they are repressed until screen on.
Have a solution!
Faced the same issue, you have to exclude the apps you need notification at 2 places in the settings.
For the doze settings, go to settings, battery, battery usage, more ( top right), optimize battery usage , select all apps and select the apps you need to show notifications.
Second place, settings, battery, go down to app power saving, click details, set app you wish notifications to disabled.

Crazy battery consumption by always on display even when off

I have noticed that always on display started to eat thru my battery when the phone is idle more than the usual I turned it off and it seems like it is still affecting me even when completely off. I have noticed that this might have happened after installing the mars suoer wallpaper but I couldn't figure how to uninstall it or get rid of it.

I was excited as there was an update today on my Poco F2 Pro (via System Apps Updater that auto-installed for 'Always on Mode'. It's now RELEASE-2.4.541-08261215 and that What's new: fix problems)
It hasn't fixed anything, whenever I use AOD my battery life halves (it always drops 5%+ in the first hour with no use - without AOD and it drops 1-2%)
It astonishes me that whoever wrote this doesn't take basic common sense into account, ie "don't check any sensors to turn the AOD on and off" - that polling prevents the device from dozing, killing battery life. Just leave the screen on as it uses a tiny amount of battery.
Give us options to turn off AOD until a notification is received, then turn it on and leave it on forever until notification is dismissed. That's what I need it for. I need to know when I have received a notification!
They might have fixed this issue, as another update was pushed out the other day (RELEASE-2.4.543-09152018)
It seems like the drain when AOD is on is much reduced compared to the previous versions.
I'll know fully after a charge/discharge cycle but it's looking promising.
Hey guys, here are some advices to you to have better battery. I have 10h sot or 1,5 day with gaming.
First, DONT use super or live wallpapers.
Second, go to settings, security, fingerprint, and turn off the last option (i use my phone in portuguese, but it should be something like "show fingerprint icon when you touch or rise screen").
Third, go to settings, lockscreen, and turn off "rise screen to wake" and "double tap to wake"
Fourth, dont use automated cache clear and dont clear your cache everyday. Just do it once a month because android will use battery to rebuild cache
Using xiaomi.eu 12.0.8.0
