sch-I925 Upgrading from stock rom, looking for one-on-one help $ - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ive never rooted a device before. starting from scratch. anybody want to coach me on this?

well what do you want. if you want to do pretty much anything that involves rooting, you have to get a custom recovery. now i dont know if you want to root only, or get a new rom

Question is why do you want to root ?
Rooting does nothing bar open sytsem files .
Rooting does not upgrade a stock rom .

Did you read the instructions for your device?

[Q] Root and then update or viceversa?

Hi, i got my first android and i´m VERY happy with it.
Although, i still want to make two things to make it better. Eliminate bloatware and update to gingerbread.
My confusion is that, to eliminate bloat i know i must ROOT, but should i root BEFORE updating or AFTER updating?
I have another doubt, will rooting affect functions of my phone like serving as a AP (access point) or any other???
Note: i do have the SGH-T959V (T-mobile´s) BUT it is unlocked and as i live abroad i´m using it with another telco. (Will rooting or updatind affect my conectivity to my other telco?)
THANKS in advance
Xavier
You need to first root in order to install a custom recovery, then the root should persist across different ROMs you flash.
I only encountered one ROM where I lost root after flashing, but I think that is rare.
Can ROOT be undone???
After the device has been rooted, if somethings comes out wrong, can i UNROOT it? and leave the phone as brand new???
Thanks
Yes, but I don't know how for the SGS4G.
For my Huawei U8100 it was as simple as reflashing the stock ROM, but for the SGS4G I don't think it is that easy. The closest thing to a stock ROM I found was a rooted stock ROM.
flash a stock rom with odin and use superoneclick root to unroot the phone. simple at that.

[Q] A pre-noob question

I am very new to the android world. my question is about the version of Lite'ning rom I should use?? My understanding is that I need not to have a rooted phone to use this? Good mine ain't rooted. Here is a pic of everything I think will help.View attachment 837063 Sorry about my literacy or lack of it.
You have to be rooted to run any custom rom.
download SuperOneClick and root your device, then install the ROM.
I'm actually scared to root because of the 'bricking' thing. I know nothing about this stuff. Will I mess up?? what to do after, if successful, etc.
Do the research. You can't run a custom rom if your not rooted. If it worries you so much maybe you should stay stock. Custom roms are not for everyone. There are risks and there are bugs that dev try to fix but each device is different and if bugs happen you need to be able to find and work out fixes for it.
Those that just root and flash without knowing what they are doing are bound to be mad when they brick their device.
Rooting is pretty easy but I would avoid flashing a new rom if your worried about rooting as it is more difficult and you need to be very sure what your doing first.

You mean i can root my phone and keep the stock rom?? The reason for me wanting to do this is the Bloatware that is installed on it. Will I be able to get rid of them??

Yes just root the device and buy Titaium back up pro and you all good to go.
You can do it without TIBU pro but it just makes it easier

Rooting and then recovering to stock - How to?

I am thinking of rooting my note 10.1 (GT-N8010). I understand how to root it, since I have read through a few threads about that, but my question is about when, or IF, I'd want to return the software to stock. I have never done this before, so I need practically all help and tips regarding reversing the rooting.
1. What must I do BEFORE rooting the tablet?
2. After I have rooted it and installed a rom, How do I unroot the tablet and install stock android?
Again, I need all tips and please don't use abbreviations. Thank you

If you make a nandroid backup right after you install your custom recovery going back to stock is as easy as flashing the nandriod any time you want to go back.Alternatively, you could download the stock rom from http://www.sammobile.com and flash the md5 file in odin to get back to stock.Read up on this stuff in the 10.1 general and development forum threads because there is way too much information to type it all in this post. You will find everything you need to know in these threads including walk through videos.

[Completed] [Q] Start to finish guide

Hi, my name is Anthony and I have a T-Mobile S5 running the latest version of android (I think it's 5.0.1 or 5.0). I'm kinda a newb with flashing and rooting. I had my phone rooted using towel root a while ago, but I lost that root in an update and it is no longer supportive of my phone.
I'm looking to install custom roms but before I do so, I would like to make a full backup of my current stock touch wiz so I can revert to it in case I don't like the new rom. I also would like to root my phone. Oh, and before anyone tells me that I need to install Odin, I have a Mac running Yosemite.... A lot of people have told me that I need to install clock work in order for this whole process to work.
Recap:
1. Make backup rom
2. Root phone
3. Teach me how to flash roms using a Mac.
4. Include any other important info and links for downloads.
I mainly want to install CM12, but I still want a backup rom to revert to later
Thanks, and please don't post any hate
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. Some pro tips, figure out how to use Odin. You'll need it eventually if you want to root and flash roms. Either in a Windows vm or heimdall. If something goes wrong you'll need to flash the stock firmware.
There's a whole forum for your device,http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5. And the best place to ask your specific question is here,http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/help

(Newbie) D6603 root

Hi.
I have recently bought a secondhand d6603 on Android 6.0.1, build number 23.5.A.1.291
I need to find a way of rooting my phone (easiest way)
I have rooted phones before but only by using Kingroot etc
I have been going round in circles looking at websites explaining it but don't understand some of it.
All I want is an easy explanation of how to do it that I can follow.
Can I root without unlocking Bootloader? If not, how do I do it?
I really need someones help if possible. Like I say, the easiest way possible would be great.
Thanks in advance. Love the group
You can keep locked bootloader as long as you use ROMs with stock kernel. They will specify this and most here are for LB.

This will get you recovery the fastest way and from there you can flash a pre-rooted .zip or custom ROM
Many thanks for that, however, I managed to remove the Bootloader and install TWRP. First thing I did was do a backup using TWRP but now I am stuck in a bootloop and don't know what to do :crying:
I reinstalled the backup just incase it was something like that, but even after reinstalling the backup, I'm still in bootloop.
