Will other networks ever get this phone ?
I bought mine directly from the Google Store and I am currently using on Tmobile.
I have also read of users buying from Google and activating on Sprint.
I'm on Sprint and bought directly from Google. The Sprint store didn't have the micro SIM or whatever this phone takes, so I had to buy one from best buy. The people that work at the Sprint store are really stupid, so don't bother having them activate it for you. Youre better off calling them and actually talking to someone or doing a live chat online. Trying to activate it yourself on their website doesn't work either

What kind of question is this? I hope you mean will the Pixel ever be branded by another carrier not if other networks will "ever get this phone". What exactly is the point of this question?

It's absurd. I'm on Project Fi and I have Sprint, T-Mobile and US Celluar all active. The OP clearly has asked the wrong question.
bought mine directly from Google, activated on Verizon, then changed to Metro PCS about a week later.

Lol big face palm! This is a factory unlocked device from Google meaning you can use it on any network as you please. Verizon on the other hand is the only carrier that's selling it as they have an agreement.

Bought mine from the google store. Currently on Straight Talk
What he is talking about us carrier carried. You have to remember that less then one percent of people buy their devices outside of their carrier. Most won't buy a device if the carrier doesn't carry it.
I think they work on any US carrier. I bought Verizon model and have used exclusively on T-Mobile with excellent results

The only real diff is that the CDMA have to have the CDMA telephony files and programs that are not open source. These things can only be done by the carrier as they are each very different.
Hope whoever got it from Google and is on T-Mobile is taking advantage of the T-Mobile pixel promo...
The Verizon model is sim unlocked. I use mine on at&t go.
He's probably asking whether the carriers will have it on plan contracts for lower upfront prices.

Hi all, I would like to know if it is possible to unlock the phone that is locked to Sprint. Would flashing the stock firmware do the trick?
Thanks.
It won't be locked on Sprint. It's the exact same phone that's being sold in the Play Store.

BestBuy is selling the Sprint Nexus 5 off contract, but Sprint is CDMA right? I am an international user and here we only have GSM, so that phone would not be an option for me?

You are correct about the international part, but the flavor Sprint is selling is CDMA & GSM and works on AT&T, T-Mobile (both GSM carriers) as well as Sprint and other mnvos.

Hi, thank you verry much for your reply. So this phone should work with any GSM carrier or only US GSM carriers? And it should not need unlocking? I'm tinking about buying one but I'd like to be 100% sure that it will work here.
Thanks.

I have no idea. North America gets D820, while the rest of the world gets D821. Go compare their bands somewhere like gsmarena.
The Nexus 5 will work on any GSM carrier for voice and 3G, no issues there. Only issue will be LTE (4G). U.S version (D820) has different LTE radio versus Euro (rest of the world version (D821). If you don't care about LTE, then you're fine and good to go with any GSM carrier in your native Argentina.
I have been told that the Nexus 5 sold in BestBuy is CDMA only. What is it, I'm not sure if the guy from BestBuy I talked to was correct about this information. Thanks

Beware - Sprint has never sold a phone which was totally SIM-unlocked. Until there is confirmation that someone bought the Sprint sold/marketed phone and put in a US SIM card that worked, I would not take the chance that the phone is unlocked.

I called 3 local best buys, checking on getting a Nex5 in hand as opposed to waiting on one from google. I asked each wireless-dept worker if I can buy the Nexus 5 for the full off-contract price and then go use it at t-mobile, I further then let them know I want to buy the Nexus 5 "unlocked" so I could use it on whatever carrier I choose.
All 3 people say no-go, must use on sprint.
Sooo - uneducated sales people? or is sprint locking the Nex5 before they send it to best buy? I took no chance and bought from play store.

its actually only $100... and deduct off $15 for shipping from google... and that I had $50 in best buy rewards from buying a dishwasher... I figured $35 to have it in my hand on the 8th would be cool. But in the end just ordered from play store and will have to wait 2-3 weeks.

ok heres the kicker the Spectrum is the real issue here. LTE bands are split on the 2 versions of Nexus 5's (NA (north America) and RoW (rest of World))

compare those lte bands to this link to see what lte bands your service uses.

I am switching from AT&T to Sprint and I just purchased the Unlocked Nexus 5 on Google Play. What exactly do I have to do in order to activate my phone on the Sprint Network? I am used to just popping my SIM card into the new phone and it works but I know Sprint is a CDMA network and does not use SIM cards.
1. How do I get the phone activated on Sprint
2. Will it run just as good on Sprint as it would on AT&T? It will still work with LTE right?

Sprint does not have a byod line as far as I know unless you are going prepaid. Nobody knows yet if any of the mvnos will activate the nexus 5. You could always get an Iphone or something on your new line and sell it to cover your nexus cost and then some.
For a new line it would be much easier just to buy from sprint for $49.
Coverage/LTE will depend on your area but yes it will work.

According to this page the Unlocked version will work on Sprint:
http://www.ibtimes.com/nexus-5-release-date-unlocked-model-will-run-sprint-network-1452872
I probably will get an iPhone or something just to sell it since I will be able to get a new phone on contract pricing but I still need to know how to actually activate my Nexus when I get it. I was thinking about getting the $50 Nexus through Sprint but I am afraid if I do that I it will not be the exact same model. I don't want any Sprint bloatware on my phone and I don't want to get updates later than the rest. I also want to make sure the phone I get is heavily supported by developers. There is just too many unknowns on the Sprint model that I am scared to get it.
So anyway, do I just call Sprint to activate my device?

There is no 'sprint' model they are the same device. So to activate you will need to get a sim card from sprint and then you can either chat, call, use the online activation or go to the store to get set up.

To get a SIM, either go into the Sprint store. Or go online to the chat (you'll need an existing Sprint acct for this).
To activate, just call the big S and give them the info that they ask for
There's a thread going about this already that has some good info:

Sorry but just to be clear, Sprint will sell an unlocked phone? Has that ever been done before? Do you have a source? Not to discredit you but it seems that I should just buy it from Sprint instead of Google Play if there is no real differences. I just want to be sure.

I don't have a source atm, but that's all I've heard around the forums. You need to start a 2 year contract to get the phone at their low price though ($50 I think?). They're selling an off-contract one for $400 too. Same device all around.

This is the first time they have ever done it. This also means that the phone will be updated directly by google, with no carrier approvals/delays- which is also unprecedented for CDMA.
I myself am very surprised more people are not talking about this.
I stopped at a Sprint store today and asked about activating a phone bought from Google directly and they said it couldn't be done? Is that the case? I have about 5 months remaining on my contract with Sprint before I go on to another carrier.

Go back to that respectable company that gave you the unlock code and asked them why.You paid for a service and you didn't get what you expected. That should have been your first step. They will check with you 1st if the phone is really unlocked or not.Good luck.
Your device might be a CDMA one. Thus, you will not be able to use it on all networks.

You are correct. The S8 is CDMA capable.
USCC S8 is unlocked out the box, I had s6 that work on ATT and Tmobile by go into setting -> connect -> force it switch to Global/GSM. The problem I have with all these CDMA phone unlock for GSM is can't get MMS and the most annoying thing is someone in the state call it kept thinking as internaltional call. Example like 201xxxxxxxxx, the phone think 20 is from Egypt.
Hopefully, S8 is will do what iPhone can..... fix the area code issue.

Thank you, It solve my problem.
What about Sprint? I have 4200 and want to switch to Sprint for this "1 year free unlimited" promo.
Anyone tried using Sprint on Global version?
Is there any way to carrier unlock this from AT&T? I remember years ago there were some that you could use Odin to carrier unlock. Just curious if its possible with this one or if there is another method.

Odin is a Samsung tool, so that wouldn't work on a Motorola.
What's the model number of the device?
I know there are some different tools for different phones, Odin was just the one I remembered.. I was thinking there was a fairly universal one but couldn't remember or find it. The model number is XT2113.

Every Motorola model number has 5 digits. There's a dash and then another digit, after the 3

Is the metro pcs one network unlockable? Phonemore and googling isn't showing me the model number if the metro pcs/metro by t-mobile has it's own variant.

Metro/T-Mo is XT2113-2.
And T-Mo stopped using codes a long time ago so it's not done by code, but yes, it can be done

Thanks for the info. Yeah I did find a few places last night that would do it, looking at around $30 or $40. Any free sources your aware. And thank you for hte help
Also, any chance a t-mobile sim would work in it, or just metropcs? thanks

If it's from Metro, you cannot use a T-Mo SIM without unlocking it.
Metro SIM *can* be used on a T-Mo one without unlocking it though. MVNO rules are weird

Considering it for a potential buy. Buyer is asking $75, so the price is right. I won't be going on metro though, I have way too many lines as it is. It's cheaper to just unlock than pay for 4 months of service, she had it on network for 40ish days and the metro rep says I can pick up where she left off.....which surprised me. I figured it'd be continuous service and/or per an account....but apparently not.

I figured, but I appreciate the confirmation. Thanks again for the help iBow
I wonder if it's unlocked, if it would be work on Verizon's network. It lists band 13 in the specs (I don't see any CDMA listed but I could have missed it, and I'm not really concerned about 3g anyway). But I guess it won't be listed in verizon's white list (IIRC that's how they validate IMEIs?). I've heard of peeps calling to get the imei added, but that seems like a long shot.....

I'm assuming you meant SELLER is asking $75.
And no, 180 days total is what Metro requires - doesn't have to be continuous or even on the same number

No, no CDMA. But most areas are VoLTE now anyways, so it's not as needed anymore.
Here's Verizon's BYOD check page: https://www.verizonwireless.com/onedp/byod

You don't have to pay for the full 6 months of service to get it unlocked. I've gotten 4 phones so far from Metro and I always only pay the 1st month, cancel, then chuck it in a drawer and leave it there for the next 5 months. Haven't had any issues unlocking. I've heard of people filing FCC complaints to get devices unlocked early, but I think they may have paid for their devices outright instead of getting it in some sort of promo. YMMV.

What makes you think this period is six months? T-mobile's website states "At least 365 days must have passed since the device was activated on the T Mobile network" for prepaid phones.

For T-Mobile yes. (Although they'll also unlock a prepaid device once $100 in refills have been paid).
But the past 10 or so messages have been about Metro, not T-Mobile
