Has anyone had success flashing or editing build.props enabling Google Assistant? And is "Ok Google" responding? Please explain how you enabled or which XDA topic link.
I'm currently on 7.1, see my signature below.

Well after having the problem myself, I began to notice that many other people had problems with the Google Now hotword detection (the tool where you say "google" or "ok google" and it opens up voice search). Here's how to fix it:
1. Download the latest update to Google Now, if there is any.
2. If you are not on English (U.S.) change it to so. (Some users are experiencing problems wiyh other languages)
3. Download the latest update to your language. (U.S.- ver. 28 22 mb.)
4. Make sure hotword detection is on (obviously)

Done all of the above including wipe, reflash with stable + gapps, change voice typing from automatic to English US.
Still no hotword activation.

my phone was in english but google configuration settings (from web page) were set to my own country, i had no hotword, i just hit settings ->voice->language while on google now and selected English US
and that was it, now i have hot word, i only wish the hotword from results still worked with xposed
This is what I meant by search only. The box says Search. Saying ok google or google has no effect.
Using EFS explorer, it seems there are two separate locations for Google Search. /data/data/android.google.quicksearch and /system/usr
with two separate hotword.symbols file.
Thanks. Its Works.
So just got my OPO. A little underwhelmed by the Audio FX EQ. Has anyone installed Viper4Android yet? Just wondering if the installation was routine or if you had to remove all traces of the Audio FX app. Other than that loving the phone!
Cheers
I installed the app, installed the driver and Viper4Android worked perfectly fine.
Which version of Viper did you use? I'm not having any luck getting it to work.
Cheers!
I used a flashable zip of viper v2.3.3 from the nexus 5 forums. Works great. Flash through twrp recovery, reboot, install drivers then reboot again. It install as system app as well.

Honestly, I searched for it on Google and one of the results just happened to be the link the forum. I believe it's in the "themes and apps" sub forums. Search "ViPER4Android v2.3.3 zip"

GO to this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-how-to-enable-google-assistant-t3477879
All thanks to him!
Works on any 7.0+ ROM with Google App version 6.5+
Just remember to clear data from your Google app after you make your build prop edits. Reboot and then you'll see Google Assistant
I'm not responsible if your phone blows up blah blah blah...

Like i asked in the other thread, have you tried reverting the build prop to see what happens? I wonder if it would stick or revert back to the old Google settings.
[edit] I'm going to give a crack out of using Magisk, I'm running Pure Nexus so i will report back.
Try it and bootloop..

Works fine, just change the language to english
I have this installed and working on my N6, but the voice model won't stick, I have to keep retraining it. Does installing this allow OK Google to work?

can confirm working, (using October update on a 5x) and 6.5.35 use the zips and flash them like instructed in the video the manual first method doesn't work
Reverting back from Pixel to Nexus 5X im build.prop works just till the reboot. Then it can work just for one shot or two if lucky after having reboot done. Then it does not. At least on mine. Had to move from Czech to English anyway.

You can read up on magisk here
Basically magisk allows you to modify /system without actually modifying /system.
My mod just adds the two properties
Code:
ro.product.model=Pixel
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
to your build.prop to enable Google Assistant.
Has Google assistant stuck on for anyone else after a few reboots?
I decided to revert the ro.device line back to Nexus 5X and it's still there!? how cool!?!
Nice. I only have one issue. Google assisted always wants to relearn my voice. For that reason i am not able to use the OK Google command.

You need to wipe and disable Google app
did hotspot stop working for anyone after the changes?
You can get Google Assistant in simple steps
1 -> Xposed { you need to install Xposed framework in your device }
2 -> Install Updated AndroidN-ify
3 -> Install latest Google App
Credit's
@MrWasdennnoch
@Xposed
@apkmirror
@Google Inc.
I've done all that on my Shield Tablet. But I still just get Google Now instead of Assistant.

i think this is incomplete, you need to change your build.prop add or modify below lines for value,
ro.product.model=Pixel XL ro.opa.eligible_device=true
after that reboot and have widget as Nova
activities, Google aap, one with mic icon.
if didn't work, wipe data for googly app.
mine is working on multiply devices g3/ Motorola x style
