When I switch to "Files" mode, the Mate 8 (A10 128GB version) comes up with some kind of installer named åŽä¸ºæ‰‹æœºåŠ©æ‰‹å®‰è£…å‘导.exe (presumably a proprietary Windows-only file manager).
Is there a way to move files using MTP or (please God) usb storage? Apart from rooting the phone, of course. I could probably put the files on local web server and download with http, if that will let me add mp3's, flacs, and ring tones.

I already have MTP working fine when I connect my Nexus 4. Shouldn't I be able to use the same MTP driver with the Mate 8?
I don't use Windows and I don't think USB works with wine, so I probably can't use an .exe file at all.
Im not sure if the driver is the same with nexus 4, but i think its the same methode to mount mtp if you use linux
I am on Solus and linux mint and have no issues with mounting the mate 8. Check to see if usb debugging under developer options is ON. You can also check what mode is the usb setting on your device by opening the dialer and dialing: *#*#2846579#*#* look under background settings and open usb port setting and change it to manufacture mode. HI all, I seem to have a problem getting my laptop (ubuntu 12.04) to recognize my phone as storage when connected via USB. Here's what happened. I have already enabled USB debugging and USB debugging notify. When I plugged the phone to my laptop I got the usual message on the screen of my phone an when I clicked on it there were 2 tick boxes: one to recognize the phone as camera (that by the way worked) and the other one that recognized the phone as storage: when ticked nothing happened on my laptop, so I unticked both and now that bloody message is not coming up anymore on my phone, I only got one which says "USB debugging connected". ANy idea?

Disable the USB debugging... It's not needed for storage connection.

HI thanks, ok fair enough but somehow I seem to have messed up with it and I would like to fix it if I can: I can't get the usb debugging mode message up when I connect the phone and the laptop doesn't recognize it as storage, not only ubuntu but even windows! could it be a matter of drivers? If so where can I get them from?

Thanks. When I connect the device as PTP it gets connected but when I do it as MTP , computer shows the error that drivers are not installed.
I'm having a similar problem on my phone, there is no option to change USB computer connection, so phone not regonised when plugged into PC? Any ideas?
MTP is a proprietary and modern protocol, older or open source OS's will not support it out of the box. You will need the relevant drivers, not sure how to do it on older version of Ubuntu, may be worth looking in their forums (support is included in new version in the proprietary driver bundle). There are no drivers for Windows XP, but you can get them for Windows 7, I'll dig out the guide I have bookmarked somewhere.

Oh yeah the other thing I didn't mention is MTP honors your phones security, so if you have a secure lock it won't show up initially until screen is on and device is unlocked.
Same issue, no options under USB computer connection !

After the phone upgraded from 12.0-YNG1TAS17L to 12.0-YNG1TAS2I3, i am seeing the similar issue, my phone will only charge on a Laptop, i tried different cables, 2 laptops, uninstalled and re-installed drivers, nothing works, i did a dirty flash back to 12.0-YNG1TAS17L the issue still exists, i tried enabling and disabling ADB debugging etc...
Under storage options , under the three dots on the right i see the USB computer connection, upon hitting it , nothing happens, the storage page just refreshes... no options to mount as MTP....
Please help need to copy the data from phone to PC...

Sorry it was a friends phone so I just returned it to him after try a few attempts. Can you not put your data into the cloud then you can access it on your PC? Good luck.
PC not recognizing OnePlus 2 after update to Oxigen 3.0.1
What seems to solve the problem is to pull down the notifications bar, which shows one notification which gives you multiple options for the USB. Please choose the file download option(usually the second option). Your OPT will show up on the PC.

I have a Nexus 5 that I have had about a month now and I had the USB on it working before about a week ago. I plugged it in today and neither my desktop or laptop could recognize it anymore. Both computers are running Windows 8.1.1 and the issues seems to be new as I can neither get USB storage or ADB to find it. The closest I can get it to working is to switch the USB mode to PTP and it reads that but I don't want to pull photos off. When I have it in MTP, it makes the sound of it plugging in and my phone shows it is plugged into a computer but Explorer shows nothing and it says it is working normally in device manager. I've tried everything from enabling and disabling debugging, restarted both my phone and computer tried reinstalling the drivers (both by the computer automatically finding them and manually installing them) but nothing seems to work. Is it possible that Windows Update could of broke the drivers since my computer installed updates yesterday? I also have Linux on my laptop and it appears to read fine with Linux.
That's the exact issue. If you check in Device Manager you'll see it listed as 'ACER ADB Device' (or something like that). You have right-click on it, select update driver, manually check and go through the list option and choose the MTP driver and it'll work again (and with USB Debugging enabled if you don't usually have it on like me)
I theorise that it's happened cause the Acer driver is digitally signed and the Google ones aren't but I could be wrong. Either way, it's a PITA

OK thanks. I'll give it a try because it was showing up as ACER ADB Device under device manager
EDIT: I updated the drivers and used the USB composit drivers instead and it got MTP working again. When I set it to USB composit, it installed Google's ADB drivers and the Nexus 5's USB drivers so everything is working again. Thanks for your help

I can´t manually update driver because of this:
when i update the acer adb it says the driver is up to date and everything is all same. what to do?

i set the driver to MTP as mentioned above and the phone started to show up on the explorer but now i couldnt copy any files from my laptop to the
phone. It displays like that and if clicked yes then the copy wouldnt happen.what is the problem.

That msg comes when you're in PTP mode I think...Only certain formats are supported.
Check under storage, expansion menu and make sure you are set to the first option...not PTP.
Above guy mentioned to have phone in USB debugging mode when setting up drivers.
If the device is showing then you need to point to the drivers for it (download them from google). I reinstalled windows a few days ago and had the acer issue (device first shows up in device manager as nexus 5 then switches to acer), windows wants it to be an acer device. Stop windows and then install the correct drivers,
For me I had to click the auto install in windows tray and tell it to stop. After a few times it worked.

I purchased a new Yuphoria Mobile. I have not installed sd card nor enabled developer options. When I connect to Laptop the phone is not getting detected. I just want to transfer some music files and I am not interested in enabling developer options or rooting phone. Can I do this? HOW?
I think there was a problem with the connecting USB cable. I tried with a brand new cable and I was able to connect laptop to Mobile. How do I delete this thread. This looks like a silly mistake.

First check with another usb cable. If it is working check with another device. If drivers is a problem. Go to control panel and update drivers. Or delete and allow windows to discover and load drivers online from windows. If it still does not work. Use Windows Dr.Fixit application you can download from windows download. Also update windows 7 with latest security updates. Also Check if your anti virus is updated and it is configured to allow devices connecting to laptop. If not enable it in antivirus settings.
If you determine the problem is not with the PC but could be with the phone. Go to Settings > Sytem > About Phone > Build no. Touch on build no 7 times quickly and it opens up developer options. Enable developer option and try.
When you connect a usb drive if you get a pop up asking connect as 1. Media device, 2.Camera, 3.Charge only. Choose 1.Media device if you choose 3 your computer will not detect the usb.

Spent the next few minutes installing OnePlus drivers, changing cables, etc. all to no avail. I am unable to get the phone to show in windows explorer with USB Debugging checked along when using MTP. However, if I deselect USB Debugging, the phone now shows in windows explorer along with all files and folders. I have done a hard reset - which actually put me in a bootloop for an hour or so - thanks to OnePlus Support. Upon resolving the bootloop, my phone was completely wiped and set it up again. I still have the same issue. The only item that shows in windows explorer when USB Debugging is connected is the drivers folder for OnePlus - see image 1. I also have an error in device manager for MTP - see image 2.
I currently have the 5T and have no issues viewing it in windows explorer with USB Debugging selected. Also, if I select PTP (pictures) rather than MTP, it shows in windows explorer albeit with only two folders DCIM / Pictures.

Mine works like this.
Plug up the phone to the computer pull down your notification bar and select PTP
It will show only the DCIM folder
Now pull the notification bar down again and switch to transfer files and there you go
but how to turn on mtp while you are in bootloader ?
tried different drivers and window 10 does not show me phone storage.

Apparently you can not enable mtp in bootloader or TWRP yet on this phone.

I was able to get mtp in twrp. Once you're in twrp, unplug the cable then plug it back in

Per TWRP's site, "MTP is disabled because it causes a kernel panic sometimes with the stock kernel."
Haven't actually tried your suggestion, but I will next time.

Why not instead of risking panic, just use an OTG drive?
adb push should work fine
I can only get the tablet to appear as a device on my pc with debug enabled, at which point it works fine.
But really, if prefer not to have debugging enabled for file transfers to work.
I'm wondering if I've got a driver issue as the pc seems to see something in non-debug mode, just doesn't load it as a device to browse files (yes I do have the correct usb mode set on the tablet - I've tried them all!)
I would appreciate some advice. I'm on the latest zui13.
