If you use systemless root, you should be able to take updates; you'll have to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom kernel. Take a look at either SuperSU or Magisk.

Why would you need OTA, just flash newest version with flashtool and that's it.
And the most easiest way to root, is to :
unlock bootloader, flash latest 32.2.A.5.11 firmware using flashtool, and then flash patched stock kernel( twrp included), and flash latest supersu using TWRP (it will be installed systemless). Cheers

You won't receive any OTAs once you unlock your bootloader.

As far as I know, there is currently no way of rooting Xperia Z5 without unlocking the bootloader. If you decide to do so, don't forget to take TA backup before doing it.

I wonder what would happend if somebody try to unlock device which has unlockable BL status...does he brick the phone or something other...
Sony Z5 black

Nah, it just fails to unlock.

BACKUP DRM KEYS BEFORE UNLOCKING !!!!! Just in case anything goes wrong and you need to take your phone to service center (so you won't void your warrenty)

[Q] Root method question.

There are chances of creating a new method for ROOT, which is safer and you do not need to unlock the BootLoader?
Well I just bought my phone and I do not want to void the warranty.
The ROOT can usually be reversed without major problems.
Sorry for my bad english.
You don't need to unlock bootloaders to root. You can root and then restore to stock if need be without voiding anything.

I can't find a download for it. Sorry if I'm disturbing you.
Thank you again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2361494 and look under "Stock Rom's"

I root by the framaroot app, and works fine, have an option to unroot device,

[Q] How do I root my Sony Xperia Z3 d6603?

Hi
I just got my phone, but missing the benefits of rooting.
Can anyone tell me how to unlock the bootloader and then root my phone?
Found a lot of links, but not sure which are secure and not to use.
Here's where you go to unlock your bootloader - http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
Once unlocked, you can flash root or do whatever at that point.
Warning though, you will lose your DRM keys in this process, if you don't know what that means, do some research

Also, is it possible or will it ever be possible to root with an locked bootloader?

You need root to backup DRM keys.
You cant get root without unlocking the bootloader yet.
Youll lose DRM keys when you unlock the bootloader.
If you cant take losing your DRM keys do not unlock and root.

Last question. I got Samsung before and I was able to update my phone with Kies after rooting. Is their any way to update Sony devices when rooted?
Thanks
Flashtool or PC Companion. I prefer the latter.

You sure? As the DRM keys doesn't matter for me, as I don't really use the camera a lot.
But when I unlock bootloader on Sonys website, it tells me I would not be able to get updates from that. But i'm still able to get them with the PC companion?
Just to make sure, as I really want android 5.0 when it comes out.

You can't update with PC companion if you have unlocked your booloader. Your phone will be bricked!

No way to know for sure until someone tries. But with the Z2, you just have to relock your bootloader (might need to revert to a stock kernel first) and then software updates work fine.

There will always be FTF files shared on XDA and you can use flashtool with an unlocked bootloader.

There is no need to spam multiple topics.
YES, it can be done. NO, we can't tell you how because you didn't post your phone model or Android version.

Hej robogo1982, jesi dobio moju poruku u privat?

In what order do I flash/relock to get OTA? Please Help

Hello!
I bought a phone, with unlocked bootloader and root. Z3 D6603
I dont know exactly how the previous owner unlocked BL etc.
But I flashed it to 23.1.A.1.28 lolli, fixed super SU and dualrecovery.
The thing is, I now want to return it to stock, so that i can get OTA updates by Sony Companion, and i have no idea how to do so.
Searched the forums, and found a lot of info, but I dont want to brick or ruin anything.
Do I need to flash stock firmware without root, remove dualrecovery or relock BL, or maybe all of it?
I posted this earlier, and im not sure if I explained it right, I said I wanted a step by step guide.
What I meant was a guideline in what ORDER to do stuff, not how to do them.
Is it enough to relock the bootloader, and then use Sony Companion to update, or do I need to flash something, maybe go back to original recovery first?
Help is sincerely appreciated !
PS: Sorry for posting again, but I dont know how to change the headline/bump the post, and need this done ASAP, or else I wont have a working phone in a few days. ( Change of sim card)

Nothing. If it is unlocked and you dont have backup of original TA partition. There is no help. You can't get you DRM keys back and without them you cant relock to original state. And majority of Sony stock fw simply doesnt provide OTA for unlocked bootloaders, except for the new Sony Concept ROM.
You may try to download Androxyde Flashtool as it provides relock function, however it doesnt restore TA. If it brings OTA back not sure, because I always backup my TA so just try it.

Is downgrade possible?

Hi guys, just a couple noob questions:
I'm planning to update to Marshmallow but, if I don't like it can I go back to Lollipop?
This is because maybe I'll have bugs like most people here and also because I want to root it(when they find an exploit) and that can only be done while in Lollipop am I right?
Thank you for your help.
Yes you can go back to lollipop if you want by flashing lollipop firmware with flashtool.
There is root for MM.
Is there root?
But I have to unlock the bootloader right? I'll just wait until there's a way to root without doing that.
No that's not right if an exploit is found on marshmallow then there would not be need to go to lollipop unless the exploit was found on lollipop. Also marshmallow has far less bugs than lollipop. But as @gm007 said there is unlocked bootloader root and you can downgrade by flashing firmware with flashtool

In case if you didn't know, if you're waiting for root without unlock because of the loss of functions e.g x-reality etc., check this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/sony-credentials-restore-unlocking-t3296383
(Sony credentials restore after unlocking the bootloader), It simulates the sony credentials to get the sony functions back.
If you are waiting for different reason, just ignore my post.

Root on locked bootloader

His guys just got the xzp and wow what a phone my only concern is root I have a locked bootloader and it's not unlockable but to be fair I've never unlocked a Xperia bootloader due to loosing drm keys etc
So my question is will we be able to get root on locked bootloaders like we did with past Xperia phones or are we stuck unless we unlock which in my case would mead no root ever :crying:
Thanks
Probably not would be my guess. You still need to unlock bootloader on previous models such as XZ/XZS.

Darn I love this device too but to never be able to have root might be a deal breaker
In service menu it says unlock bootloader allowed no but in developer options it give me the option to unlock the bootloader does this mean it's possible for me to unlock the bootloader

Thanks again
Like always, if a security breach is found on Android that allow getting root access, it will be possible to backup the DRM partition, then after if you like, unlocking the bootloader and then restore your DRM partition.
At least, it finished like this for the Z5, but you had to downgrade to Lollipop to get root access.
AFAIK, there is no known way to get root on Nougat today.

So there is the Dirty Cow exploit that seems pretty pervasive and promising.

EDIT: Nevermind I'm an idiot, I didn't realize the dates on dirty cow.
Question still stands though, do we know if there is anyone on the XZ Premium working on it?

It's not possible anymore. You really need to unlock the bootloader in order to root. Something about patching the kernel.
