I travel a lot and need an easy way to wake my phone from sleep state while it's in the car holder. Does anyone have an idea? If I can't figure this out, unfortunately, it'll have to go.
Aside from clicking the power button or using 'ok goggle' voice commands I can't think of anything else.

Ok Google won't wake it from lock.
It will wake up and ask you for the PIN before proceeding so yeah not ideal.
Try settings, smart assistance, voice control, voice activation.
You have to set screen locking to none.
Enviado desde mi MHA-L29
If your car has Bluetooth, you can enable Smart Lock and get around the lock screen that way without disabling lock.
However for actual double tap to wake you'd need Huawei to implement it which shouldn't be too hard with the built-in DSP.
It's more about waking the phone from a locked state

Why don't Huawei just add this feature thru an update. GOD damn it.
Yea Huawei may be sleep and dont listen this standart function! Damn it! Why must click on buttons when I need view clock? Back to roots! High end mobile without user frindly function. Problem is lock screen app too. I use very little time Z11 from ZTE and this function there are without any issue. M9 bad experience!
Emui = stripped Android. We buy these phones to get away from Samsung but Huawei ends up trying up be like Samsung. It's like they didn't have a clue when they developed EMUI.

Huawei Nate 9 double tap to wake petition
Could we start a petition so that they consider it for a future update? Really sucks if you re on the road much and need to press buttons to unlock your screen...
Did anyone try this on Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29?
there is a voice wake up, and also voice answer a call: simply enable it, and say "answer call". it will turn on speaker and asnwering the car. so you really dont need to touch the phone at all. i tried it when i was driving, it works well to answer call., for make call, i have blue tooth connected to my car's big screen.
I've tried some DTTW apps on play store but they either don't work or suck too much battery power.
For now I've had to compromis and use an app called "Smart Screen On Off (New)" by Luutinh that works on proximity sensor. I use flip case for my phone but can work just the same by waving your hand across the screen.

I'd really like to see a couple of what I would consider to be enhancements to the standard 2.1 lockscreen.
I'm wondering if it's possible to make the unlock slider REQUIRED to unlock the phone because, at this point, you can still unlock the phone by pressing the Menu key again. This would prevent the phone from being accidentally unlocked if the Menu key gets double-pressed while in your pocket, without the need to set up a full unlock pattern. It would also make the "slide to unlock" bar functional, instead of just being nice to look at but pointless to use.
Additionally, I'm wondering if it would be possible to change the Mute/Unmute slider to mute ALL SOUNDS, including the media volume. The reason I ask is because those of us using the Touchdown Exchange application have the option to have the app read our notifications, incoming email, calendar appointments, etc., out loud to us using TTS, which is "played back" as media, not as a notification. Yesterday, while I was in a meeting, I THOUGHT I had the phone on silent. Then an email came in. Made me look like the idiot that I probably am anyway.
I'm now using a single-click app from the market that mutes EVERYTHING, but it would be very nice to have this feature built directly into the lockscreen.
Any chance this can be done? Anyone interested in doing it? Thanks in advance.

Ya I feel the same way sometimes hehe
It would be nice as I like the pattern lock mainly because it forces you to enter it to EVER unlock the phone.
But I don't really care about having a complex pattern to keep my phone "secure". I always just have the pattern be a simple swipe right then up. The lock on the 2.1 default lockscreen is just as simple and I love it actually but I just wish it would always require the unlock action to unlock. Customizing it in other ways would be an added bonus.
I also agree about muting ALL sounds, that is what that slider should be doing in my opinion as well. Seems like it should I mean "Sounds off" to me means "mute everything".

Yeah. I believe all of this is possible. Perhaps put a setting in Spare Parts to turn these functions on and off? I don't know. I wish a developer would share some thoughts.
It can be very usefull, the double sliding on no audio produce the effect to activate the vibration mode
buy or download the free version of LockBot
u get the option to use Iphone/Hero/Eclair/Flan lockscreens with many choices of backgrounds ect..
and it allows u to NEED to slide to unlock has alot of options.
i use LockBot Pro very useful app
How exactly do you "accidentally" press menu?
I keep my phone in my pocket separate of any objects that could possibly press and buttons. But the amount of force and accuracy would be needed just to hit the button. Just press power, home, call and then swipe its pretty simple.

@ OP It is possible to do. I had a BB 9530 and they had the pattern lock ust like the g1. what they dide was disable the buttons except for end key. Im not a dev but I dont think it would be that hard to implement this ina rom

Listen guys, I appreciate the feedback, but this thread isn't about alternative solutions. And talking about how YOU don't unlock the phone with accidental double-presses of the Menu key doesn't help here either. Some of us do. Keep in mind that some people carry their phones differently than others. All of us have different lives, and our days might present situations and conditions under which our pockets/phones can get bumped or pressed against. It can happen. But, even if you don't have an issue with double-pressing the Menu key, wouldn't it just be nice to have a BUILT-IN lockscreen that is more functional than it is pretty to look at?
Also, suggesting Market apps, paid or not, does NOT help. I'd really like the EXISTING 2.1 lockscreen to be more functional. If someone is willing to try implementing this, it would be nice to be able to turn these settings on/off using Spare Parts or adding additional menu options under the phone's Settings --> Location & security.
i would have to say i agree with the OP, although i do love the 2.x unlock pattern page now because it has the time and charging status, before i would have to hit menu to get the screen to come on, then back (if i dont need to unlock) to get the time...this way is so much better!!!
+1 for the OP
I also often unlock my phone when it's in my pocket -- I guess I'm just an active dude.
Helloooooooo developers! Chime in please.
catch me if u can!
Doesnt look like any devs are interested in this...mainly because there will be a new lockscreen probably when gingerbread drops
Your best bet would be to pm somebody you know has done work on lockscreens (i.e. Stericson) but like i said there will probably be a whole new lockscreen anytime now
This ROM says that the menu button doesn't work when the screen is unlocked. i personally haven't tried it out, but this might be what you're looking for.

Like I said, I don't want the "double menu press to unlock" function to be removed, I just want a feature to be ABLE to disable it if the end user wishes to do so.
ok so... with the phone on the table and the screen is off (standby). if i say "ok google" and do a search for anything. once im done i can hit the home button and it takes me right into home screen without inputting my finger print or password. So that means anyone can now say "ok google" and bypass any of the securities. come you guys confirm this as this is a major problem for me. I have the verizon edition pixel.

Settings>>Google>>Search & Now>>Voice>>OK Google Detection - In here you can set options to secure this feature to your liking. Notice the 'Trusted Voice' Option which detects its YOU before unlocking. There of course is room for error where someone sounding similar to you in might be able to get it. That's why these features are there to disable if it matters to you.
I personally don't care much..
Cheers!
(There might be a faster way to get to those settings. That's just how I always remember to do it)
And it also makes you acknowledge everything you just said before enabling trusted voice.... you must've missed that part.

How long has your friend been using their V20? I know they become much more accurate the longer you use it, similar to the fingerprint scanner. Google has you train it to understand you with 3 sets of 'ok google' but that doesn't mean it's done learning. Give it some more time maybe? Just thinking...
hes been using it for 4 about a week now. the v20 is a nice. i feel it is noticeably faster than the note 7 i had. only issues are the screen it average. Its sharp but color is average. the hole phone vibrates from the speakers which is a downside for me.
Ill give the pixel some time to learn my voice and report back. hopefully i cant fool it lol
Try this

Press power button while Pixel is in sleep mode. That will bring up the lock screen. At the bottom of the screen you will notice a fingerprint icon. Tap that and you will get the message "Device will remain locked until you manually unlock."
No amount of saying "OK, Google" will allow access now until you either use the fingerprint scanner or enter your pass code.

It is a setting in Google -> Search and Now -> voice -> and OK Google detection.
Turn off "trusted voice"
No more "GLARING SECURITY HOLES" in... Your knowledge of your phone.
Because, asking for limited functionality of Assistant when trusted voice is off doesn't sound right to me.... Like asking for AI to know which questions are answerable while screen is locked seems too tricky at this time.
The design is to use a lock or leave it off, currently.

Well 1) the voice recognition isn't good 2) we want the functionality 3) the assistant could act on limited functionality: weather, reminders, send texts, make a phone call. If someone gets my phone and wants to manipulate a voice to send texts, whatever. This is how moto handled their voice assistant and it was perfect.
Oh this thread is now a feature request? It was about a security issue. Things can change.
Give Google feedback through "about phone" in settings! Maybe they will add the feature.

Finally somebody with a smart answer...this controversy could all be avoided by a simple google search telling you how to disable the the trusted voice in smart lock, as the person states above. Im all about helping newbs out but research before you post...especially security stuff...... the title of you post makes it sounds as if there has been a security breach or major security flaw in the firmware.
Sounds about like the guy I sold a Gear 2 Neo too. I was showing him how to use some things and he freaked out when the Trusted Device feature left his phone without a passcode. So we disabled it, then he wanted to add a passcode to the watch to get get into it which really only works if it's disconnected from the phone. He was pretty honest about his reason. He's cheating on his wife and didn't want her to find out.

Yep. So it is not a flaw. It is a feature.
You should feel informed by the warning in settings, not like "it doesn't work.."
It is a fact more voices are similar and voices are easier to mimic than... Fingerprints. Rhythm and pitch are easy to steal. Ever hear of a cover band? Or confuse yourself which band you're listening to because of singer? If never... Wow dude.

Hi guys.
I'm one of those who do not have lockscreens in my phones.
Also, I love the double tap to unlock feature. Been using it on my G2, G3, OnePlus3T.
This feature on the Pixel only works if you have a lockscreen. This is more like a "double tap to lockscreen" rather than "double tap to wake".
Is there a way around this?
Now I know there are apps that do this, but they are not managed by the kernel, are unstable and drain more batt than they should. I'm hoping a dev can look into this
Cheers!

I agree with every single thing you wrote. I don't like to lock my phones either, but like to have the raise-to-wake feature. I happen to like Gravity Screen, but as you found, it does eat battery to set it up the exact way I want (use motion instead of proximity). So this is what I do. Establish a lock method so tap-to-wake or raise-to-wake works. Then turn around and create smart lock situations to bypass that lock. For example, I establish smart lock by locations, and by Bluetooth connections. Since I always wear a smart watch of some kind, it leaves my phones unlocked, but tap-to-wake still works.
I tried to get the double tap only to work as well but I failed. I don’t need to lock my phone either. Coming from BB10 where all I had to do was swipe up to unlock my phone man that was great. A slight swipe would show the lock screen a full swipe gesture would unlock the phone. None of this involves touching the power button I am simply talking about picking the phone up and swiping without hitting the power. BB10 was awesome it really was great but I think the lack of apps didn’t allow it to shine.
The finger print to unlock is pretty quick and easy but if your phone is position in a way that your not going to unlock it with your finger you have to use a pin or pattern to unlock.

Thanks for you replies, guys.
I didn't find the trusted devices method that reliable for some reason. I do have a smartwatch I use for work, but not for leisure, so I will not have a consistent experience unlocking the device. Also, this only work if it's secure (other than swipe).
So in order to use the T2W feature, you might as well have at least a simple swipe lockscreen.
Also, I tried something else last night. Elemental X kernel. It has T2W built in and works pretty alright. It is more sensitive (original implementations require you to tap with a little force) and 2 gentle touches is all that's required to unlock. Does not consume a lot of battery.
I may check out Gravity screen as well, to prevent accidental unlocks when it is upside-down (in my pocket) and that should do it.
And yea, I was also trying out Tasker, automating "swipe up" when I wake up the device. Didn't go too well. In case you guys wanna tinker with it, lemme know if you get it to work

The really nice thing about Gravity Screen is that it puts you back where you left it, not the lock screen.

I'm not familiar with the app. Does it drain battery like some of the others that people have mentioned in this thread. I really like Elemental in that I can also enable sweep2sleep. I've actually been using the stock DT2W and Elemental just for the sleep function.
I keep my phone propped on my desk at work and can quickly lock and unlock it as needed.

The app is created by flar2, the creator of ElementalX, so I don't believe it would be any different than his kernel. I use it and I do not experience drain. One additional feature the app has is the extra protection of accidental pocket turn-ons.

It's not tilt to wake or gestures that is now removed from the software, it's about the unlock.
There was an option to keep the watch unlocked when it was on the wrist so that the pin only needed to be input when you were not wearing / removed from arm and no heartrate detected.

Seems that I need to ask Amazon for refund if this will work lie this.
The pin can be turned off but then it leaves the watch open if you lose it. In my case I find it accidentally does stuff while I am asleep or my daughter messes it up.

i have found that disabling the PIN also disables Google Pay. and even after re-enabling it, you have to set it up all over again.
from my understanding, the watch knows when it is on your wrist, so maybe you need to tighten the strap or check the heart rate monitor to always on.

I'll try disabling google pay and see if the option comes back - I can't use it in Germany anyway, I only want to use GPay when I am back in UK.

good idea - please report back your findings.
If I disable Voice Match, Google Now disables everywhere unless I re-enable the Voice Match. Then saying "Hey Google" while the screen is locked and off triggers it.
I need the good old way of Google Assistant only working when I am on Home Screen, not when I am in any app, not when the phone is locked or screen is off, only when I am either on home screen or app drawer.
Any way to do it? Any magisk module or anything?

Not all functionality is available when locked such as I can turn my WiFi connected lights on without unlocking but need to use the fingerprint scanner to interact with apps most apps.
It's funny that I wanted my previous OnePlus 5 to be able to do this particularly with AutoVoice Tasker scripts but now that I have this feature with my OP7Pro but I'm not so comfortable with the phone and potentially Google always being the fly on my wall.
Sorry but I've not spend any time trying to address the issue as you described as I'm still deciding if the convenience is worth the voluntary surveillance.
I regularly watch the Daily Pocket now YouTube show and have seen him toss his spying Amazon Echo as he hates that it listens and then inundates him with adds related to what he was talking about. At least Google has only done that after I've done web searches although I'm sure this is just a ticking clock from changing.

I would love to know this as well as I have Google/Nest hubs in almost every room of my house and hate that it turns on my screen every time.

That is one of my main concerns, apart from battery drain that'd be there with constantly on mic (though have heard that newer QC chips have minimized that drain), google will always be on the listening mode, no matter if the phone is locked and in the pocket.
And I know that not much could be done from the lock screen, but it's annoying, my phone was on the table, and I was discussing something with my friend. I might have said something that would have sounded like hey google, and suddenly I hear "Here are the search results". Picked up the phone to see that it picked up certain words from the conversation, and had searched for it. As we were in a quiet room and the media volume was full, it wasn't very pleasing to suddenly hear that.
