WIFI and mobile internet at the same time - Honor 6, 6 Plus Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This seems to be an easy one first, I just did not manage this working.
When I am connected to device via WiFi (which is not connected to the internet) I cannot connect to mobile data. The device somehow keeps trying to use WiFi only for internet connection. Obviously switching is NOT OK, as I want to be connected to the device. Imagine it is a drone remote controller or a dashcam or a wifi cam.
I tried Wifi+ but that is only changing to another wifi with internet on or switches to mobile net. I also tried mobile net always on, but does not help either.
Any idea? I do not even think this is Honor related - this should be easily working on any Android device.

sounds like the same to me , but i think, its impossible , you can connect both at a time.. but phone always tries to get internet from wifi..

Yes. It's quite impossible to do that. Wi-Fi and Mobile Data at the same time. Speedify on the play store let's you use both for downloads and Internet. Doubt it'd solve your problem tho

I understand now it might not be possible. It is by default like this in Android. It is kinda stupid, though.

Data Connection is still used when connected to WiFi!

I've just been charged £400 by Orange for exceeding my Data limit of 1GB , watching You tube video's but whilst connected to WiFi.
I did a few tests using www.showip.net and found that when you connect to WiFi your connection is still rooted through your data connection, so your download limit is being sucked away when you are thinking your safe as your connected to your WiFi connection.
You actually have to manually disconnect your data connection, then connect to WiFi, your data connection doesn't automatically disable itself when you connect to WiFi.
This seems like a major bug to me and I can't see this documented by HTC or Windows Mobile
Is this a know "issue" and is there a fix?
Regards
You do not need to pay them anything, just go to your local citizens advise bureau or trading standards..
In order to prevent using 'data' connection you have to disable it with a third party app ,such as data disconnect, even then you have to manually disable it in the connections centre,if you disable it in the connections centre and do not use an app such as 'data disconnect' it will still connect..
Therefore it is a fault with the device..
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just discovered this issue. Which app will automatically disable 3G when I'm connected to WiFi? I always thought if you were connected to wifi your data would not get used? Guess I was wrong :S

Install Android Data n wifi works like a charm...
In windows, i've seen Wifi-on-demand once installed, starts the data automatically when wifi is lost, but data stays on even when wifi is reconnected.I guess there is no solution for this yet....

CHTS switches Gprs off, if Wifi is connected. Also you can disable gprs Data totally.
At best you make a home profile, which disable gprs totally and only if you really want to use gprs, you switch to another profile, which allows it.

I don't understand...you are basically using your Blackberry/laptop configuration to make a mobile hotspot, right? If the Xoom can access the wifi signal for one app it should be able to for any app. Maybe I'm missing something. Can you give more explanation?

I connected my blackberry bold which has 3g to my laptop which broadcasts the connection via wifi. The chrome browser and android market and other goodies apps connect but installed apps don't connect. Plus I recently bought a huawei e5 mobile 3g wireless router. I got my xoom connected to the network but right now only the browser goes online,. The other apps just do not. I don't know what other piece of detail I can give other than the fact that my Xoom wifi is not connecting to 3g networks broadcast via wifi. Any ideas?
This is really very strange... I switched my 3G-Xoom into flight mode and then activated WiFi (so it basically behaves like a WiFi-only Version) and connected it to my mobile (Samsung Galaxy S) and all apps are able to access the internet. Connecting ist to a UMTS-Router (Option GlobeSurf) also worked like a charm...
Did you try to connect your Xoom to a WiFi-Router at home (= Internet access via cable not UMTS)? Does this work or do you encounter the same probs?

[Q] Wifi and Mobile data

I have Nexus 5 for over a week and waiting for case and screen protector. I left the plastic piece stay on the phone until the day before yesterday. I love the feeling of touch screen without any film or protector on it. I am learning this device.
I have router in my office powered but not working anymore, therefore there is wifi always on but not working anymore. Everyday in the morning, when I am in my office, the phone will detect that wifi auto, of course there is no signal. My mobile data is on all hte time. I have to turnoff wifi from the phone, otherwise I can not, for example, surf internet and check email. In the other words, no internet connection even mobile data is on.
So my question is: why the phone can not pick up mobile data automatically even there is a wifi? I was scared when i first had this problem because I thought my phone is not working. Is there any setting I can try to let the phone pickup signal from either wifi or mobile data automatically?
I'm interested also. Nexus 5 has a difficult time negotiating a signal when the signal is weak. At home, I get a higher powered signal on 2G so I keep it there. Today I noticed "no signal" and emergency calls message most of the day. (hubby's iPhone 4s is on the same service and he's getting the signal). I turned off Wi-Fi (which works perfectly, btw ) and phone signal connected. Treated it several times. Sounds like a hardware defect.

Your wording makes the question a little confusing, but I think you are saying your office router is turned on and available for WiFi connections, but has no internet connection itself to pass through to your phone.
Your phone connects to that WiFi for data, but can't reach the Net through the router. Meanwhile, you could get data through the phone data plan, but that does not work unless you turn off WiFi.
This normal. The phone is designed to use WiFi for data if a connection is available that you have authorized the phone to make. It won't use the phone data plan if connected to the WiFi, as you see. It cannot tell that the WiFi router is not connected to the Net.
I suggest you go into WiFi settings, click on the "ghostly" WiFi entry and tell the phone to forget that connection. From then on, the phone won't connect to that router and will use phone data plan.
What you would prefer would be for the phone to use its data plan as a fallback option, in case it gets hooked up to a WiFi network with no internet access, like at your work. Would be nice as an option, but not the way things work currently.

To prevent overage for users that may have limited data plan, the device will always try to use WiFi when enabled. If it can't connect to a WiFi network, it will look for the mobile data if enabled.

In your case, since WiFi is "available", there is no setting on the stock ROM that will tell the device to connect to mobile data instead. Think about it this way - your phone is connected to the LAN using the WiFi network. It can reach the gateway, and has a valid IP. It doesn't care about whether it has WAN connectivity or not. So, it assumes that you are connected, and have connectivity.
You could look for apps on the play store that will actually check for WAN connectivity and if not available, disable WiFi (so that mobile data is used instead)
But, the part that I don't understand is this: If you don't have WiFi available, why do you even enable it? Turn WiFi off (disable wifi scanning in advanced settings of WiFi as well), and let mobile data take over instead. Or do you need WiFi elsewhere (say, at home)? If so, there are apps like Tasker that will let you set up profiles to enable WiFi when you are at home, and disable it when you are at office or other locations.
Thanks all for your very helpful reply. Sorry for my poor written English.
My office router does not function properly and I am to lazy to power it off, so my phone still can detect it but of course there no internet access from the router.
I now know I just need turn off wifi from phone and the phone will pickup mobile data auto.

WIFI

Hello all,
This is my first smartwatch, I am having some troubles connecting to certain WIFI. Is there limitations on what kind of WIFI network this watch can see and connect to? My home WIFI seems to work just fine, but when I am at work, it doesnt see all the networks, and the one it does see......it wont let me connect to? Is there any way to fix this? I am guessing it might be some sort of security settings on the WIFI at my workplace?

It may not have the functionality to connect to 5.0ghz, only 2.4ghz Wi-Fi. I can't test that because my home router is from my broadband provider. I tried a google search and the only thing that came up was that it can connect to wireless b/g/n. Nothing stating if it can or cannot connect to 5.0ghz.
it can only connect to 2.4 ghz networks.
5 ghz usually need a/ac standard to connect to.

Use mobile data while connected to wifi.

Hi! My problem is that I want to use my phones mobile data while connected to a lan to see ip cameras that have only lan access.
I loose all internet access in the phone because of being connected to wifi, even with mobile data turned on it defaults to wifi.
I had a old Nubia phone that let me have both mobile and wifi data simultaneously and even use data from both and never had issues.
Thanks in advance:good:
Hi. Have you tried "Mobile Data Always on" in Developer's settings?

Yes, does nothing...
Check this thread from an XDA developer.
You can also use speedify but I never used it.
