[Question] Diffrence between quick chargers - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

So we now have two quick charge 3.0 compatible chargers which is Sony UCH12 and Sony UCH12W
1. What's the difference ?
2. Let's say that i picked the UCH 12 Standard version and switch it with the USB Type C cable instead of using the provided Micro B cable, will the quick charge process still work?
Refrence
1. Standard UCh 12 (Micro B)
2. UCH 12W

1. no one, only UCH12W comes with Type-C cable...
2. yes, it will work.

Is the quick charge in the cable, the plug, or both?

Should just be with the plug, especially with usbc being new(ish) should all be a decent standard to accept quick charge. I would however just purchase a decent brand like tronsit, anker etc from amazon. Don't buy cheap leads or chargers. I have 2 chargers the one that comes with the xz is not a fast charger

Home and car turbocharge compatible chargers.

Let's discuss what wall and car chargers you have been able to charge the phone with.
I haven't bought it yet, but the Tronsmart 33 watt dual charger for the car looks promising: https://goo.gl/a3vada
I have a Tronsmart quick charge 3.0 home charger right now, but I don't have my phone yet. When I'm able to test it, I'll let everyone know.
Of course, if you are going to use a USB A to USB C cable, make sure it isn't a cheap one. Apparently there are reports of bad cables that may short out.
A question I have is: Can we get the full use of the Turbocharge with a USB A to USB C cable? Or do we need to go straight USB C to USB C? ANSWER, according to @tea_dub84: Possible that you will need USB C to USB C cables to achieve fastest charging.

Most definitely going to need usb c to usb c for the fastest charging. With a usb a end I believe the best amp rating we can get is 2.4a but usually around 2. To turbo charge the Moto Z and for it to recognize turbo charging you need at least 5v at 3amps (15watts). The stock turbo charger outputs 5v at 5.7 amps (28.5watts). Our phones don't follow Qualcomm quick charge standards. I believe our phones follow the usb power delivery standard for charging.
I gave up looking and went to the local Verizon store. I was having an issue that the only charger that would charge my moto mod battery, Incipio, was the supplied charger with the phone.
They had usb c chargers in stock. I tested out the home charger and it turbo charged my phone then started to charge the battery mod. Then tested the usb c car charger and it turbo charged my phone then switched to charging the mod.
So needless to say I'm satisfied.

Any chargers (home and car) online that use usb-c to usb-c cables should turbo charge the phone...
NONE of them (including the VZW) will charge as fast as the one that came in the box...but they will turbo charge

First picture is using the Verizon usb c fast charger. Not bad and it did pop up saying turbo charging.
Just to compare the second photo is using the supplied charger that came with phone. Huge difference.

Any USB C to C charger will *work*, but they won't turbo charge since Motorola doesn't use QC 2 or 3. It uses the USB C charging standard with a twist. I have tried a couple chargers, and the phone will always pop up a box telling that to enable turbocharge I need to use a turbocharge charger, etc...
The Z Force charges with a 5v at 5.7a, and many chargers won't put out that much power. I've seen a lot of 3a and 5a chargers, but few 5.7a.
If you're lucky enough to have a USB C port on a PC/Mac, it will turbo charge the phone as fast as the stock charger, provided you use a good quality C to C cable. It will also let you transfer data to the phone at insane speeds.
Verizon sells TWO car chargers that are Type-C one of them states Qualcomm QC 3.0 and the other does not but both show they are rated at 5V/3A (15 watts)
Has anyone tried one with the VZ branding? If so, which model was it? SKU #TYPECPDQC3VPC or SKU #TYPECPDVPC ?
So I ended up getting the SKU #TYPECPDQC3VPC and it works fine in turbo mode. Go with that one for the car!
I picked up the following charger from amazon with a discount from snagshout.com. Seems to work as it should, have only used it twice though.
Quick Charge 3.0 Silipower 39W car charger attached 3.3ft USB-C connector for 5V 3A charging Nexus 5X/6P, HTC 10 & other Type-C Devices, QC3.0 for LG G4/G5, Galaxy S7/S6/Edge, HTC| Qualcomm Certified
I'm Brazillian and I bought the AUKEY Car Charger mentioned on the first post on Ebay and it works with Turbo Charger. I have a Moto Z Play (XT1635-02).

I've got a Pixel charger I use at home, and a Verizon QC3/USB-PD vehicle charger
Vehicle - https://goo.gl/Pa1QWW
I bought this charger :
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Type-C-5-Port-Charger-PowerPort/dp/B01D8C6ULO/
It works perfectly on turbo power via the usb c port.
It follows a Motorola Proprietary Power Delivery, compatible with other USB Type-C Power Delivery devices up to 5V/3A max
The Verizon TYPECPDQC3VPC, TYPECPDVPC car chargers and TYPECPDQC3TVL wall charger will charge 5V/3A. (I bought mine off ebay as Verizon/Xentris non-branded for $9 each~ YMMV)
Reference https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...f_TX8/pubhtml#
I think most usb type-c PD chargers will "fast charge" up to 5V/3A, only the Motorola TubroPower 30 has the capability to do 5V/5.7A proprietary "turbo charge".. It was $20 shipped on Verizon 'til recently, that's where I bought mine.
I bought this charger for home, it's the verizon oem from xentris with the logo marked over. http://www.ebay.com/itm/351967678957

[QUESTION] Difference between UCH12 and UCH12W chargers?

So my phone came with the UCH12 charger and a usb C 3.1 cable, 1st gen i believe.
The adapter says it supports quickcharge 3.0, so can I use quickcharge? I read online that only the UCH12W can do quickcharge but I don't undersand why. What's the difference? My usb cable is a UCB20 model.
Can someone explain to me if I need the UCH12W adaptor and a different cable or something, or I just need a different cable with the current adapter?
According to my adapter it can output: 5 V/2700 mA, 9 V/1800 mA, 12 V/1350 mA, and according to the xperia.com page of the UCH12W that also outputs this exact same amount of power. So what's the difference and why doesn't quickcharge seem to work for me?

As I understand it (and hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong), the only difference is the cable. I read in one of the other threads that the cable that comes with the XZP doesn't support quick charge but the cable that comes with the UCH12W does support it. I'm guessing this is due to a wiring difference in the cables. I got the UCH12W on eBay and my XZP quick charges without issue, but I haven't tested this with the cable that came with the phone. I'll give it a go when I get home and see if this is true.
Long story short, I think the UCH12 doesn't come with a cable while the UCH12W does. Other than that, I'm pretty sure they're both the same charger.

Thx! Can you tell me, what model your usb cable is? It's on the little white leaflet thing, if it has one. So in theory, I only need a specific cable to do quickcharge?
So my cable that came with the phone is a UCB20 model, on the xperia site, I can see models like the UCB30 and UCB32. UCB32 won't do as that is a usb c - c cable, the adapter has an A connector first, so that's not gonna work. But the UCB30 is supposedly 2nd gen usb 3.1 type c cable. And it can support higher power flow. Could it be that the UCH12W comes with a cable like this? I didn't want to buy the cable because my the XZP only has a 1st gen usb c slot, so I wouldn't benefit from the 2nd gen speed at all. But maybe power would work.

The cable that came with my charger is UCB20 and quick charge does appear to work with this cable, so if you have that one, it should be just fine.

I have downloaded an app called Ampere, it can relatively measure the ampere of battery charge and discharge. When i'm home in the weekend, I'll check with a portable battery, my old Z3 Compact adapter, and my current adapter. If nothing else my current one should shlw the highest amperage of the three. But I'm not sure my phone uses quickcharge. Because I don't experience the magic of putting my phone charging, me coming back in 30 minutes and I should see amazing results.

Is there good and bad, for quick charge, usb C cables?

Hi
I have a honor 8 ,with a quick charge feature, it is working with the official wall charger + usb c cable sold with the phone.
I would like to buy a longer usb c cable. How to be sure it will provide fast charge? Could I buy cheapest cable?
Thanks

USB Type C to Type C Quick Charge

I upgraded to LG V30 from Nexus 6P. Skipped the Pixel and Pixel 2 series...
I have a large supply of USB Type C to Type C cables that rapidly charged my Nexus 6P....they will not fast charge the V30 though.
My Type A to C cables will not fast charge it either with anything but the stock LG charger.
I tried the "AUKEY Amp USB Charger with 60W Dual USB C & 4 USB Ports for LG G5, HTC 10, Nexus 5X / 6P and More" from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EXWXVWO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That is supposed to support Quick Charge from both the Type A ports and Type C ports but LG V30 would not say fast charging with any of the ports or cables I used.
Is anyone having any luck with 3rd party Quick Chargers? I wireless charge at night with a dock and in my car but I like to have quick chargers spread around the house for when I need to charge up fast before running out of the house.
I'd prefer Type C ports so I can use all of my Type C to Type C cables...but I'll take anything that works. Looking for multi-port options like the Aukey above so my family can charge their devices too at the same time.
Any suggestions?

Thanks....really looking for one that has USB Type C ports...I have like a dozen of those cables now (type C on both ends)...all a different color than the USB Type A to Micro USB cables that all the other phones in my house use...makes it easy to grab the right cable among the bunch of them...
Are you getting super slow charge, like 4 hrs reported or just not quite as fast?
I have the Nexus 5x and that charger charhes my V30 close to the OEM QC3 charger, just slightly slower.
I did have some issues with a desktop USB-C PCI card triggering a file transfer mode, which gave it that 4 hr slow charge estimate. I had to reset it in developer options and reboot (even though it already was set to "charge only"). Something buggy going on.

I think it may be charging close to stock charger with my Nexus 6P compatible chargers and Type C cables....but my battery lasts so long and I wireless charge at night...so have not done real test where the battery was close to zero yet.
Was hoping for the phone to confirm it is in fast charge mode...but if it still charges fast that is good enough...we'll see...
I have the same issue. chargers and cables that work with my Nexus 6P do not necessarily charge the V30. seems the USB A to USB C cables don't work as they do for the 6P.

I had something similar with the htc 10. Charger and cable both from aukey together would not work but same components paired with any other worked.
The fastest possible type C charging is Power Delivery (PD)
19V vs 9V (QC 2.0)
should we all email LG to let the know the V30 is very picky with QC3.0 chargers? maybe they can resolve this in a future update?
My V30, V20, and G5 all exhibit the same behavior when using USB-PD: 5V 2A or 9V 1.67A peak. So if you want the fastest possible charging you need a charger that supports 9V. The 5V 3A chargers wont cut it.

The fastest possible type c charging is the fastest charging standard both your phone and charger support. My zte Max xl will only charge at 5v 1.5a from a usb-pd charger, but it will charge at 9v 1.15a with a qc 2.0 charger.

I've discovered something interesting about the V30 and PD. The V30 accepts 12V via PD but not via QC3.0. Up until now all of my PD chargers have been 5, 9, and 15V but I recently got a power bank that outputs 5, 9, and 12v. I've never seen a phone accept 12v before.

I have a 12v c-c power delivery charger and it still won't fast charge my phone. When I plugged it into the a to c yesterday it said fast charging 1h 10m remaining to full and when I use the c to c it says charging 1h 20m remaining. It's not much slow but it is and it makes no sense because usb c is the fastest possible way to charge something over USB.
Why would they make this phone use USB c if they aren't even taking advantage of it? My 6p had a bigger battery that charged faster than this phone because they actually utilize the USB c.

Aftermarket USB cable and rapid charging

Got a new G6 and now I have to replace my micro USB aftermarket cables with USB C cables that fit the G6. Do I need a special type of cable for rapid charging to work? or to connect the G6 to a computer?
I have an Anker 4-port charger and a rapid car charger.
Should I be looking at any special USB C cable, or will anything like these work?

or can I get a pack of Type-C to Micro-USB adapters and use it with the cables I have. Will it support rapid charging?
Thanks
I've been able to use turbocharging on my G6+ using my older micro USB cables with micro USB to USB C adapters.

So the longer the cable, the less likely it'll read properly to turbo charge. When I had my Moto G6 play, the supplied charger would only turbo charge with certain cords. The longer braided ones wouldn't work properly unless I put it in an old Moto Z/Droid turbo charger. It was odd.
Then I ordered braided 3 ft cables for Moto Z, it wouldn't turbo charge with the car charger anymore. Seems to be very finicky. If the cable is advertised as turbo, and it doesn't work, return it and try another.
Good luck!
Using an Aukey two-port charger rated for QuickCharge3, and the moto reads it just fine as TurboCharge. Make SURE that your USB cable is actually rated as at least USB3.1. (alternately called USB 3.1 Gen 2) There are a lot of el cheapo cables out there which are either USB3.0 or even USB 2.0 with a type C connector slapped on them. Also remember that USB 3.1 cables are length sensetive, and should not be over 2 meteres (about 6 ft) long unless you are using what is called an 'active cable.' These have microchips in their connectors and are generally more expensive.
from Wikipedia ""A device with a Type-C connector does not necessarily implement USB 3.1, USB Power Delivery, or any Alternate Mode: the Type-C connector is common to several technologies while mandating only a few of them.[5][6]""
