Back to Marshmallow 6.x from 7.1 N? Battery life ... - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I am a somewhat advanced user on the subject of testing ROMs and I have always had CM ROMs until a few weeks ago I decided to take the step from Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 to Android 7.1 Nougat, where I opted for the ROM Resurrection Remix RR .
I'm not happy with the change, the battery life worsened despite having taken bigger measures to save battery (greenify, less screen brightness, less installed apps, etc) and also noticed an annoying bug that was From time to time some application stopped responding, something that happened to other people.
So I want to go back to Android 6.x, and I have been recommended RR, and I to see which was better I searched on youtube 'Best ROM for OPO Marshmallow 6.0.1 and I came out several ROMs and it left me confused that the RR video That came out of the first had worse rating than other videos with other ROMs and, although this is not relevant, I wanted to ask for an opinion in this forum to see what I recommend, if another ROM of Nougat 7.1 or what ROM of Marhsmallow 6.x put in My Oneplus One. I really do not care if my phone has Nougat or if it has Marshmallow, what I want is more battery life.
Thank U! :fingers-crossed:

Well, I've heard about one ROM, not listed here, but somewhere in Google Community, it's called "Official OmniROM Community". I have never read so many good reviews about a ROM so far. Android 7.1 based.

Did anyone just stick with the stock Cyanogen OS?

I realise this is probably a bit of a controversial question to ask on XDA, however has anyone else just stuck with the stock Cyanogen OS on their OnePlus One?
I was thinking today when reading about Lineage OS I have pretty much kept my OnePlus One stock since i got it in July 2014, out the box Cyanogen OS had everything i'd otherwise flash a custom rom for. I did try some early Marshmallow roms around February last year, however due to various bugs I went back to stock and waited for the Marshmallow OTA.
These days i'd certainly take stability over having the latest and greatest version of Android. Of course I don't intend that as any disrespect to the developers on here, more than anything I think I just got tired of tinkering with my phone and have enjoyed just using it.
However I do plan on flashing Lineage OS in the future, which seems quite strange after not flashing a custom rom for almost a year.
It's great to see XDA is still going strong, even more so that the OnePlus currently has the most users of unofficial installs of Lineage OS :good:
My father does have the official builds hahahah we both have the opo but he's okay if it works, so keeping it simple is the best way for him.
As far as Cyanogen OS goes
It's bad and bloated
I tried to stay on it, and did for a bit when security updates were being applied
But had a bunch of reboots and overheating issues. Had to dump it.
Was on stock COS till today since i couldnt find a rom that suited my needs and passed safetynet. Today i flashed lineage OS official, everything is smooth and it passes safety net (i can now use my banking app while running nougat). So yeah today is the day i left COS and marshmallow
I don't even know why I'm still on official CyanOS. The screen time is dreadful. I think I'll give LOS a chance in the near future. It can't be any worse than 3-4 hours of screen time, what I'm getting now with official COS.
Cyanogen may be sold in the future and they can push harmful updates to your device, so I'd say updating is a very good choice.
I am keeping it. I would love that someone could recommend me a 6.0 rom alternative though, because can't switch to Nougat. MM has xposed and i need youtube background playback.
I do sometimes think maybe I should have stayed stock but then I think of all the fun I've had
Now I need my phone to work for calls and alarms as a minimum so take less risks now
I'm still on marsh 2.0 from way back last august
i would but cyanogen 13.1 has a problem with the mobile network.........
Luck Patcher

You can try Lucky Patcher. They have a custom patch for YouTube background playback. Works on Nougat. Hope this helps
For anyone who wants the best stable experience, I'd suggest sultanxda's CM13 ROM. May it be for girlfriends, dad's, whoever. That ROM will never fall behind.
Cheers.
Well I am still sticking with rooted cyanogen os. I have color camera, viper4android, Sony Media Apps like Walkman and xposed.
Can anyone enlighten me whether noughat build supports viper4android and a good camera mod like color os or cameranext mod? If so I don't mind installing it immediately..
I'm still on stock ROM, because I'm using NFC payments on the tube. Battery life with screen on is dreadful. I would upgrade in a heartbeat should there be any ROM that's signed by Google. Is there any hope to get that ?
My story sounds a lot like the OP. I got my OPO as soon as the invites started going out (I had signed up long before release) and I just couldn't wait to get it and start rooting and TWRPing and ROMing. I tried just about every ROM that was out there including OOS. But, as is often the case with enthusiast ROMS, there always seemed to be some little something somewhere that didn't quite work right. I also had terrible problems with the radios on almost all ROMs including the stock ROM. That got corrected during the second or third update though.
I have a lot of smartphones, so eventually, I moved onto other phones and other tinkering. Then one day, not too long ago, I wondered what it would be like to restore my OPO back to factory stock - no root; reset the tamper bit - and update to the latest official update - so I did.
I have to say that the OPO has never been as stable and reliable as it is in that condition. Best radio reception since I got the phone, silky smooth Android experience (even on two year old hardware), and rarely any crashes or FCs. Truly a STABLE phone.
But even as good as it is running now, I still worry about not getting any future updates and in particular security patches, so I will be looking to flash a good stable build of Lineage OS after reading up on other users' experiences.
Still have to say though that through all of my phones (Galaxy's, Lumias, iPhones, and everything in between), I'd still put my OPO up there with my trusted iPhone 6S for reliability and the "It Just Works" factor.
Hi! I'm running COS, the latest update i received via OTA. I'll wait for a stable build for Nougat, also, there are some xposed modules I cannot live without so i guess i wait for a little bit.

Which Xposed module let's you do that? please let me know. I know I can search but can't get one that works.

There's an unofficial Lineage OS 13 for our bacon, here in XDA. Stable no issues and xposed compatible

Closest to stock stable Nougat for XT1224

Hello guys,
I have a Droid Turbo with an unlocked bootloader, and I was looking for the overall best Nougat rom in terms of simplicity (I'd like AOSP/CM, but since there's none available, the closest one will do it ) and I'm also looking for stability and decent battery life. I have no interest in fancy/extra features, I just wish to have a smooth experience.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance
Here's the three best Nougat ROMs:
[ROM][All Quark][7.x] Resurrection Remix
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL]AOKP 7.x For All Quark
[ROM][Quarks][LOS/CM 14.1 Unofficial][7.1.x][2016-12-30] (hybrid of CM14 and Resurrection Remix)
Go to those threads and see if they have the lack of features, lack of options you are looking for. All have gotten very good reviews and you are not forced to use features you don't want. You do realize that, right? (I'm still on Marshmallow Resurection Remix 6.0.1 for me and my wife, and 2/3 of the stuff is turned off. However, I love the 1/3 of the featueres I am using!)
But the unofficial LOS/CM14 has the "least" features of the three.
There was briefly an AOSP Nougat ROM -- but it got removed from the forum. The features list was copied from another device, it didn't even have Quark Ambient Display (which responds to the IR sensors like Moto Display), and the dev was unresponsive. Then it disappeared...

Looks like the AOSP ROM is back -- supposedly with QUARK Ambient Display restored.
[ROM][All Quarks][7.1.1_r25][OFFICIAL] AOSPExtended ROM V3.3 [OMS/DUI]
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-maxx/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v3-3-t3569820
As it's now back "brand new", it's not yet in the "best of" Nougat ROM list like those above just because there's no track record yet. But it's AOSP like you asked for...
EDIT: seems like hotspot/tethering doesn't work on this ROM nor the other ROM by this dev. He doesn't own this device anymore, he says, so he's having some problems fixing bugs.

Giving old phone to mom (need rom advice)

Which rom would be the best to put on here that gets OTA updates?
Current Setup:
Android 4.4.4
CyanogenMod 11.0XNPH44S
I haven't used the phone since the battery went out years ago but I replaced it and wanted to give my mom a nice daily since her phone broke. Preferably something simple as she is an older lady, that can use the Play Store/gapps, Spanish language would be a plus, quick, and long battery life. She's coming off an older Moto G so this is still an upgrade but I wanted to make sure she got something nice and I haven't looked into flashing roms in ages. There are so many cool roms I would use for myself, but I want something my mom can use and I won't have to worry about helping her with (she lives across the country).
If you've replaced the battery it's probably an overrated counterfeit that isn't actually 3000mah~.
The phone doesn't really get OTA's per se anymore, not for quite some time now, beyond custom ROM's and all the funkiness that goes with that (eg not suitable for mom).
Best in terms of daily, reliability and battery life would be to run SultanXDA's LOS 7.1. Runs and looks stock, no funky weird CUSTOM 1337 features, pretty much no weird reboots and so forth. It's EOL'd as well though so no OTA's for it either anymore. Oreo customs is good but YMMV, I still wouldn't recommend any of the builds for a "normal" user.
official LOS 15.1
Candy 8.1
Carbon 8.1
OTA available
disable : auto-rotate/proximity check/DT2W
location : set to battery saving
I bought recently the OP6 and i gave my OPO to my mother too, when i was using it, i was running the TugaPower Rom N series, now it's on N58 i think, very very good rom, stable and debloated, just try it ^^
Planning to install official LOS 15.1 soon, but being the first version I'm not too keen on doing it so soon. Still running on last stock OTA COS version and the battery runs smoothly at 85% after 4 years of intensive daily usage. Since moved to 5T couple of months ago, I one the OP1 as ebook and gaming device only, but I would like to upgrade the OS and probably I'll go first for LOS-14.1-2018-06-13 version first, since it's the last one. At least to check the battery consumption first.
Thanks everyone! I ended up flashing SultanXDA's LOS 7.1 , thanks for the advice.

Let me know please how that goes for you. Yesterday I just factory reset mine and now I'm reinstalling all apps fresh removing CM account in the process to see how the battery goes with that hog.
Thank you

Which rom for less-technical family member?

I'm moving on from my Moto G3 Osprey, which still has the stock ROM, and giving it to a family member who's been stuck on an aging Android Jelly Bean phone. Before I hand it over, since I'm wiping the device anyways, I've been considering flashing another ROM.
I and the other family member are both on T-mobile. The speculated Band 12 support was one reason I originally got the G3, and so when Moto dropped B12 rather than update for VoLTE support I was disappointed; not getting a Nougat update was a further downer. If I can fix that before handing it over, it'll really help make the phone more useful for them. But I don't need the latest and greatest and still-debugging-what-doesn't-work-iest. I'd flash this once and hand it over, and this family member is not very technically oriented. It needs to be usable and stable. What should I grab?
Someone asked a similar question a year ago and the answers were split between "stick with stock" and "get official lineage 14.1." But it sounds like since then the official maintainer stopped and people have focused a lot of effort on 15.x roms. Is one of those (e.g. althafvly's?) a safe bet? Or is it better to use official 14.1 despite its less-maintained status, or even to forgo volte and just give them a stock phone?
BTW I'll also mention that Bluetooth and the flashlight have been on the fritz and I've wondered whether flashing the ROM might alleviate those problems. Maybe that's a battery issue; I've replaced the screen before and replacing the battery doesn't seem that much more involved so I might do that before handing it over.
I would suggest you go with AOSPExtended v5.8 it'll has all the latest security patches, but it isn't maintained now because the dev is working on Pie now. It's a stable ROM with quite a lot of features. I get about 2:30 to 3 hours of SoT with moderate to heavy usage on a bad battery(I intend to replace it) from it. Other options you can look at are Lineage 14 the last official build or AOSPExtended Nougat, both solid Nougat ROMs but you'll miss out on the security patches. I moved through both of these to AOSPEx v5.8.
However there are other ROMs you might look at, I haven't used them though
Pixel Experience Oreo
Resurrection Remix Oreo
Lineage 14.1 is the best suited for your needs. It is stable and will be updated (once or twice in a month) so you will be getting latest patches. It it most close-to-stock Rom

Are There Any Roms Demonstrably Better Than Oxygen OS?

So, I've been rooting phones off and on since the HTC Dream and with each and every phone there's been roms that were just substantially better than the stock OS. Even most recently with my S9, Samsung butchered the OS to the extent that rooting and flashing phones was pretty much necessary. With Oxygen OS being in place, I've attempted Lineage and as much as I appreciated the few offerings it did have that Oxygen OS didn't offer, it wasn't a hard decision to switch back. The most common reason I switch is usually battery life but Oxygen is even good for that. What are the selling points of your rom that makes it seem the better option than Oxygen OS?

As far as ROMS where everything is as good as OOS, no. Each custom ROM has certain things that aren't as good. For example most of them have sound that is lower and doesn't sound as good as OOS. OmniROM is the only ROM where they ported over the Atmos from OOS so the sound is the same but the Fingerprint reader doesn't work too well. Havoc has a bug where if you wanna use any gestures other than the stock ones there will be no back gesture as it gets totally disabled. Bliss has a bug where if you want to use Google Dialer and Contacts you'll get com.android.phone force closes. crDroid or anything based on Lineage has random freezes when watching videos. Most of these ROMS are one or two bug fixes away from being as good as OOS but they usually never get those bugs fixed, then a new version of Android comes out and the process starts all over again. If you want stability you're better off staying with OOS. The one or two ROMS that have appeared to be the most stable and didn't have any bugs were Paranoid Android and AOSPA but those are more vanilla and have little to no customization options. Once the standby battery drain on CarbonROM gets fixed that will be close, as the only thing left would be porting over the Atmos like Omni which seems to be the key to having the same level of sound as on OOS.

I would like to clarify a few things.
We have Dolby Atmos module which can be used to increase the volume to oos level. Only downside s that the minimum volume is too high and hence you need to disable it. That is why custom roms don't implement the module.
As far as video freezing on cr or lineage based goes, well it is due to the latest security patch. The devs are looking into it but i think google will roll out a fix in may.
PA is extremely stable but offers lesser customization. So if you don't care for face-unlock, you can use treskmod based on PA. It is equally stable. But as face-unlock is closed source, there only a chance that face-unlock will ever come to treskmod. Otherwise everythink is like PA+pixel features.
Furthermore, evox is also a great rom which you can use. It doesn't have any of the above bugs. Another option is AOSiP

I am not a dev but use custom roms. The major advantage of a custom rom is customization over OOS. Also they at a faster rate and are closer to google implementation. The devs are also trying hard to make the rom perfect. If rooted, you can also use it to maximum. Also, there is a great chance that a feature you want will be implemented into the rom if you ask the dev.
