I updated my N5 to 4.4.3 through this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/flashable-stock-4-4-3-supersu-t2771010
could not wait for Google to update my N5.
My wife's N5 was updated through official ota.
We are both on TMobile. Same plan. Same zip code.
At home we use to have both LTE signal at 3 bars out of 4.
After the update I noticed this issue where both phones are connected to LTE but now we have 0 or 1 bar out of 4.
often I see No Network at all.
Changing to 3g or 2g will set the phone back on Edge or HSPA.
I think the new baseband messed it up.
Anyone else experiencing this issue on TMO with N5?
Any ideas?
Thanks
I noticed 0-2 bars of LTE at home but mine has always been like that.
i feel like i have less LTE bars than i did prior to the update. In some areas where I have always had LTE coverage, I have HSPA instead. At work I have less bars - I work very close to home (NYC, Manhattan) so i'm not sure if it a problem as a result of the update or service issues in the city - at least in my case.
Bars and signal strength are not necessarily related. The bar is just telling you what the software is interpreting, there have been tons of signal bar hacks that make it more or less accurate.
What I will say is that the LTE drops are something I've seen before even when I paradoxically had "full bars" on LTE only to suddenly have my phone not actually displaying a connection and then it would, after a moment, drop to H+.

Not to sound like a D1ck,But.(I feel your pain)...Finally someone else besides me having issues and I'm on sprint (insert jokes now)the same thing has happened to me my wife my dad my brother and his wife. All of our data handoffs from 3G/LTE hang.I/we have gotten worse LTE.You are not the only 1.I even adb fastbooted back to 4.4.2 to see if the difference is just in my head. It's not.4.4.2 gave me LTE back again.
I am thinking to flash back the previous baseband. Anyone reversed back to the old radio but staying with 4.4.3? I can tell you that the battery life is better with 4.4.3.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Are you seeing that the behavior of handoffs is different or are you losing your data connection more often than before?
I am also seeing emergency calls only in some places like my job, where previously I had 3 bar lte. But at home it stays with 0 to 1bar very unstable. I am convinced is the new base band. Tmo told me to do a switch from 3G back to lte in network settings. After that didn't work they told me to do a full reset to factory settings. Thinking to flash back to . 23 radio.

Both. The hand off is so bad I can't even verbally describe it.My singal drop is so bad I want to smash my phone.(but I want cause I love my nexus devices as much as my kids)
I'm sitting in my office where I would normally get at least 2 bars of LTE, instead I'm only getting HSPA connection (4-5 bars). Same thing occurred at home, only HSPA when I normally would have LTE.
This started happening when I flashed the factory image when Lollipop got released 2 days ago.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue?
EDIT: Contacted Nexus support and they said that they're having issues with ATT on the east coast and there may be an issue with my sim. Going to contact ATT now.
EDIT2: Solved. ATT set my phone as a 3G device so it never picked up LTE. They fixed it, all good now.

How is that a fix? You now have no LTE!
Hello all,
Sparse poster, long time lurker. I just upgraded my Nexus 5 (purchased from Google, on T-mobile) from 5.0.1 to 5.1 using the OTA link available from AndroidCentral and though no other problems have been found, I am having some trouble with the radio now. When I'm on a call now, the data connection drops from LTE to GPRS, showing the 'G' next to the signal strength icon. Before upgrading from 5.0.1, this would drop to HSPA ('H') at worst. I came to expect that the 5.1 update would enable VoLTE since I thought the N5 was capable of this and the upgrade enabled VoLTE on the N6 for a buddy of mine. Either way, I think GPRS is a pretty bad when I need a data connection while on a call.
I tried to reflash the bootloader, radio, boot and system img's manually and nothing changed. Any ideas? Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks!
hi, I encountered same issues with tmobile LTE after I sideload to android 5.1.

My stock 5.1 radio was very broken. Phone process froze, no deepsleep, losing connection and sim, people could not call me. Very bad.
Using 5.01 radio now, its much better.
My provider is Vodafone NL.
Weird issue I'm having on a G920i. In Settings -> About Device -> Status, the signal strength is being reported incorrectly. When I first boot the device, it will show accurately and will vary from -90 dBm to -100 dBm when I am at my house, which is consistent with every device I've ever owned. However, after 30-45 seconds, it will start reporting at "-113 dBm 0 asu" and it will simply stay there and will never change, even as I move about. The number of bars in the signal strength icon on the status bar will even change, but in the Status menu, signal strength simply stays at "-113 dBm 0 asu" permanently. Connectivity seems to be fine--I have no problems making calls, browsing the web, etc. The signal strength in the Status menu simply seems to revert to and stick at 113 dBm 0 asu with no explanation or other impact on the phone.
For what it's worth, I've tried both the New Zealand and Singapore AOD1 firmwares from Sammobile.com. Same problem on both. I'm on AT&T in the U.S.
Anybody else seeing anything like this?
Yes it seems both the g920i and g920f all have this problem. Every single device. Please get in contact with Samsung about it, the more people that complain the more likely it will be fixed.
@mupet0000 & @phositadc I've seen you guys in a few forums talking about the Galaxy S6 SM-G920I signal issues... Mine is the same! Swapped 2 phones already and they have awful lte reception... I was hoping a different modem/baseband would help but it looks like it doesn't....plus a few soft reboots as well what's going on? Have you guys experienced any reboots? Can this be fixed with a software update?
OK checked mine and its yes your right. -113 in status however if you type *#0011# in your dialer you'll see the better reception reported. Interestingly this did not happen when I was on the Cricket towers(At&t). I just switched to T-Mobile and I now have the -113 status. My speeds are great but I can't side-by-side compare the radios to anything to know if there is a real problem.

No reboots here. I flashed the aod3 modem last night and things seem a little better on AT&T. On the aod1 modem, I was not getting LTE in a bunch of places that I've always had LTE before. I know the g920i has frequency support for AT&T LTE bands, and I do get LTE, but I must say so far the experience has not been as good as other LTE phones I've had. Not sure if that's the modem firmware to blame or the hardware itself. Probably firmware.

Hey all, I'm in the UK and I have the SGS6 edge on the 3 network here. I use my phone for tethering at all times as I do not have wifi in the house. with my SGS5 before this I could easily run my PC , Tablet my son mobi and his gaming PC all at the same time with no issue. The S5 would run a full signal and load very quickly HD content.
My brand new S6 is disapointing singnal wise from straight out the box. I noticed my signal level fluctuating up and down but very rare dose it show a full signal level. and as for teathering I am finding it very hard to live with.
I will be suprised if Samsung sort this out with firmware. I just had a 150 MB firmware update yesterday and my signal level is the same.
I remember my Nokia N96 having this same fault, and although it was all over the internet back then, Nokia did nothing in all the firmware updates I had. I was going to sell my pristine 7 month old S5..... but I think I will hang on to it for now.
Hey guys, I am on the latest OTA released by Samsung (AOE3 built May 7th) and the problem is still not resolved. LTE signal still awful and LTE signal strength still -113. So far so bad. I have contacted Samsung again, and tomorrow I have a phone call with their support where they will remotely access my phone so I can show them the problem. I will show them and see how it goes, and I'll report back here.
I will make it clear to them that the signal strength is worse than my 2 year old S4, and I will demonstrate the incorrect signal strength value to the support agent. If they tell me it's a non issue or they make some silly excuse instead of investigating, I will simply sell the S6 and get another phone.
This is a huge issue and I'm disappointed that there aren't many people noticing this or reporting it to Samsung. The more popular the S6 gets, the more people will notice that their old phone holds a better signal.

I think it is a widespread issue... I always have 1 bar lte and under my signal status it say - 113dbm which is zero service... It never moves... I'm gonna try custom rom and see if that help but it obviously a antenna/modem baseband issue... Also someone mentioned it could be because the Galaxy S5 uses Cat 4 lte and the S6 uses Cat 6.....its very disappointing! Hopefully it gets fixed or I'll return to the S5...i really want to like this phone..... But Samsung is making it hard to
I don`t think there is anything wrong with the signal. even if I only have 1 bar the phone is perfect during calls and my LTE/4G download speed is even over the provided speed my carrier provides, I think it`s just a bug that it`s showing less signal then what it actualy has.

This is true. It's simply a bug that shows the wrong signal strength - mine shows -113 but I'll have 3 bars so that makes no sense. However, if you ARE getting a bad signal, that is a different issue altogether.
(btw I started a thread about this already several weeks back)
Spoke to Samsung on the phone, they didn't need to remote access my phone to see the issue. They had an S6 in their office and they told me they saw the signal at -113dBm just like mine. They say they have passed this onto the relevant team and hopefully it will be fixed in an OTA and I should stick to the United Kingdom BTU firmware (the correct firmware for my region).
We will see if this gets resolved. They definitely know about the problem now and have seen it with their own eyes, so I'm hopeful.

Ok.. Thanks... I already read through that thread too... Been trying to figure out if it was just me or alot of people..... Seems like the 920f is getting more updates that us.... 920I......The latest is AOD3 right? Today I'm gonna flash a custom rom for 920f and see if there is any change....
*edit* just checked Samsung live update... AOE3 was just released for 920I for TTT I guess is a country called Trinidad and Tobago... But that is the firmware I've been using.... Hopefully this will help... Let Ya guys know
*edit #2*...ok guys just updated to AOE3.... Bars still show low but the signal status is working and it's showing that I have a better signal than with *#0011*... The - dbm and asu is now extremely close to my S5... So in conclusion the signal is strong it just doesn't show it in the bars like previous Galaxy's
When I'm engaged in an SMS conversation using the built-in Messenger app, my mobile network keeps dropping. When I try to send a text, it says that I need to insert a SIM card, and the connection bars show I have no connection. If I wait a few seconds, my network connection re-establishes and I can send texts. Interestingly, when it says I have no connection and I can't send texts, I can still receive them.
I've only noticed this happening when I'm texting.
Does this sound like a faulty SIM card, or could it be an issue with my phone? I'm with Bell in Canada on a 32 GB Pixel.
EDIT: I just noticed that this will sometimes happen if I've had my phone in my pocket for a while. I'll pull it out and the network connection will be dropped when the screen comes on, only to reconnect after a few seconds.
Are you in Toronto by any chance? On Telus? I've been having the same issue since late last week. Only happens in Toronto. On my commute to Burlington, everything is fine as soon as I get passed Etobicoke.
The issue for me is mostly on LTE+. That's causing the biggest headache. 3G and LTE seem to be fine. And again, only in Toronto. Outside the city everything (LTE+, LTE and 3G) all work fine.
The only workaround I have while Telus is looking in to it is to use 3G while I'm at home on the Danforth.

So it sounds like the same issue. Telus and Bell share towers, so that makes sense. And you're having issues in the city but not in the 'burbs. The same issue I'm having.

Well, at least it's probably not a defect with the phone!
Just received an OTA update (NDE63V) that, supposedly, has an updated cell radio. I'll know in a few hours if this has any effect with my issue... As usual, phone is working fine right now in Hamilton.

When I run LTE Discovery, it says the LTE band is unknown.
The problem in Canada seems to be affecting both Bell and Telus subscribers on band 4. Google the Pixel's band 4 problem, you can read more.

Here's hoping they come out with a fix soon! I'm just glad it's not a defect and something that can be fixed.
I used the support feature on the google pixel phone today and a rep from google called me after requesting a callback. The chat feature was greyed out on my phone. When I brought up the issue of network randomly dropping throughout the day, the rep said this was the first time they've heard of the issue. After going over the issue of my network connection randomly dropping and reconnecting, sometimes accompanied with the triangle icon saying there is no sim card inserted in the phone, the rep called my service provider and left me with them to resolve the issue instead. They said it had to be something with the service provider and not the phone. I'm with Koodo Mobile which is a subsidiary of Telus. The Koodo rep did some testing and had me add a new APN to see if that would stabilize the connection but that didn't do anything. They said it's more likely an issue with the phone because it's connecting to the network but not sustaining the connection.
I've tried swapping out a new sim card hoping it was a faulty sim and that didn't fix it either. A factory reset also didn't do anything. I've confirm the sim and network wasn't an issue when I inserted my sim into my friend's iPhone 6s. There was no connection drop within the 15min sample size. I then used my friend's sim card on my google pixel, he's on Bell's network and the connection did drop within 10mins. We contacted a friend who works with Bell's networking service and he said this was the first time he's heard of this issue and there's been no report on his end of this. He doesn't work at the customer service level so he doesn't know if any pixel connection issues are being reported and brought up to a higher level. I should mention I'm in Toronto so there's no lack of cell towers around for a bad connection.
I'm going to see if I can borrow a Rogers sim card this week for some more testing to see if it's only dropping on the Bell/Telus network as others are reporting. Right now it's very frustrating, I don't know if it's a hardware issue or software issue.
I know it doesn't fix the problem but have you tried to drop to 3g until they fix the towers there? Should at least be less frustrating if it's specific to LTE.
