Hello all! I'm considering buying the mate 9 and just had a question about the display. In nougat for the nexus devices there is a setting for both font size and display size. The display size is something that's new and I personally love. Does the Mate 9 have this setting?
Hi wrong place to post, you need to post this in the questions section. Yes you also have that setting in the Mate 9.
settings > display > view mode

Hi guys.
Does the Mate 7 support the feature of Mate 8 that allows you to set the display item sizes to small/medium/large? If so, is it innately available in EMUI 3.0 or you need to upgrade to EMUI 4.0 with the Lollipop/Marshmallow update?
Thanks for immediate answers!
On my OnePlus 3T and my S7 Edge, there is an option in the Display settings that allows me to adjust the overall display size. It will reduce or increase the look and size of the entire display (smaller text, icons, menus). Does anyone know if the Mate 9 has the same menu, or anything similar?

If you enable that developer options, there is an option labeled "Smallest width", changing that will adjust the dpi and scale everything smaller or bigger.

Thanks! I'll give it a try tomorrow.

FYI...The bigger the number, the smaller everything gets. It's the opposite of changing the density in the build prop. I personally like to leave my display size at large and set the smallest width value to 500.

In the settings menu, you tap...display then tap view mode. Then you can choose large, medium or small. I personally like changing the smallest width in developer settings.
Maybe is it possible to get tablet ui working here? Tryed to change dpi through dev options, but nothing, if i even set it to 600.
On Nexus 6p, i put that on 590 and had tablet ui in apps working.
You can just change it in the display mode setting no need to mess about I have it on small

I could get a quasi tablet looking interface for gmail app using a dpi of 800. By tablet looking interface I mean that, besides the usual list of emails, some of the options you get by swiping to right from left edge were present on the screen without swiping. For example I now had the option to switch email provider, (from gmail to aol) without swiping. The problem is that changing dpi to 800 hosed "settings". It would crash if I tried to open it. Fortunately the dpi did not stick when I rebooted. For those that use Dolphin browser, by changing dpi to 480 (from the default 432) you can get a 4 by 4 grid of icons for speed dial (instead of the 3 by 3 that comes by default setting of dpi).
Personally, I would not want my global dpi to be 800. I would just want certain apps to run with higher dpi. Normally I do this with the Xposed module App Settings. But, as AFAIK, that is not possible on nougat at this point. If someone knows how to modify an app to change it's individual dpi setting please do chime in!
plz help me i have samsung c9 pro the dpi big and icons is big like note 4 can you help me to change the dpi to note 7 dpi or note 5 i try failed to make this please
there is no screen.destiny on build.prop, so I think no way to do this. but you can try a program from google play store to change dpi. just write the dpi changer doenload and enjoy. but it may dangerous.
Root your phone and then edit build.prop or use app setting application with xposed framework...

I know it is very late to answer for your question. Actual solution is very easy and you don't have to root your phone or install any app. Just go to settings and enable developer options. Here is how you do it if you don't know it yet.
1. Go to settings
2. Scroll to end until you see About phone and select it.
3. Select software information
4. Tap build number for 7 times Until you see developer options enabled toast message.
After you have enabled developer option you can see it ander About phone in the end of the settings main page.
1. Select and enter to developer options and enable it
2. Scroll down to Minimum width under DRAWING options.
3. Change it bigger number to make your icons as well as all the phone settings smaller.
You can play with numbers to get better view for yourself.
Just don't change it to too big numbers like 700 and bigger were everything gets smaller and you won't be able to change it again.
Good luck
Anyone else noticed for such a large display the text is overly large, see pics & YouTube clip I have the Samsung tab S 10.5 & more text is filled on the screen than the Huawei 10.8" display (even the nexus 10 shows more text) & that's with the Text size & view mode set to small because of this I would end up scrolling more. This is making me think twice about getting the tablet. The one I reviewed is my parents.
Does not help that the max home screen grid is only 6x5 where as the Samsung tab is 8x6 which is better.
in the landscape picture it mostly is because of the navigation bar you dont need wth the tab s.
I agree with it being slightly less dense than your parents tab s but I only have a old notebook as a comparison (with 1366&768 resolution) and am perfectly happy with the tablet. I suppose this could be changed with a custom rom though.
Edit: btw if it is just the browser you can adjust the scale. in firefox go to about:config and search for font.size.systemFontScale. I've got it on 70 instead of 100 and can fit a lot more content.
First of all which OS is the Tab S running. Is it the old WebView which comes as separate App, or does it already have the new WebView which is integrated into Chrome. Seems as if it is the old one on the Tab S.
Regarding the Launcher grid well yeah EMUI is different to TouchWiz, less rows and columns on the grid, but less lag fest as well. If you want to obtain more rows and columns on the grid change the launcher let's say to Nova Launcher Prime.

I agree, I've done the same. For me, it's the non text items that are far too big. It feels like they've taken the 8.4" tablet and just scaled everything up.
I use a value of 950 - if you go smaller than that, the settings pages can become unusable. Note that this gets set on a restart, so you have to go back to Developer Options and set the value again. Still, how often do you reboot the tablet?
Trying to decide on upgrading to the Note 10+ from Note 8. I do a lot of reading on photography forums and on kindle. Is there any way to know if you get more lines of text displayed on the 10+. I know it is a larger screen with more pixels but at the high resolution display setting does it actually display a few more lines of text for reading or composing longer emails.
Thanks
Yes it does, but its depending on your font, tell me what font size you use and i will check for you 1:1 with note 8
Using standard font - one size larger than smallest
I am using the standard font and selected one size larger than smallest available on selector. Thanks for checking this out.
