Governor Profiles for Pixel - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Guys. I come from a Nexus 6p and loved sonicrons Interactive Governor optimization.
Is there any Chance to bring it to our Pixel? There was so much Power savings to achieve !
Any ideas?

I have arrived. I'm still learning the ropes of this device and the EAS "sched" governor works pretty well on this phone. That being said, I'm definitely going to start messing with Interactive on this phone during the week.

I am considering the possibility depending how well the non-EAS version of Sharkey kernel runs.

why can we not choose different scaling options with our kernels? (like on demand)

I used to always use 'on demand' on other phone. Does this have do with the unreleased tegra drivers? Do scaling profiles even make a difference with battery life impact?
Thank you for your time

Tegra is unique in this aspect. The governor on our phones is in a sense 'hard coded' into the phone, its called DVFS Dual-core Voltage Frequency Scaling (im actually not sure if i made this name up or its the right one... )
either way, it can only be tweaked by a kernel dev, and we cannot use any other governors.
the way nvidia made the phone we are locked into this (and by default the settings they used) and also unfortunately for alot of us, it seems that nvidia preferred performance over battery life.
yes, on most phones governors can make a HUGE difference, in battery life, performance, and feel of the rom. but not for us

However you gotta give it to nvidia for making a very good chunk of code on that one cause it still works very well despite the nvidia nazi tendencies
Pin it to Win it.
Learn something new everyday! Thanks for clearing that up

well yeah, for all the **** this phone gets, its very good at what it's made for. (playing games)
However it's unfortunate that we can't change it's propensity for speed and power.

[Q] Best CPU Governor

First off, I had to take a break from xda for my own sanity, so I am back now.
What is the best cpu governor to use. I mainly care about performance, but I don't what "performance" because that just locks it to the max. I find that ondemand has a tendency to jump around, more from 300 right to 1125 a lot, but I haven't really tried much else.
Battery use is to be considered, but not as much, as long as it will still last all day, I don't really care.
Thanks, and feel free to kill me for not searching, because I really probably didn't research as much as I should have.
I think "interactive" is probably the best Governor... it's sort of like the mot_hotplug from GB

Can someone give me the governor settings for ICS, I've been thinking of writing up a "CPU Governor Explanation" guide to go along with my Overclocking one. I'm familiar with most, if not all. Just don't know what the new kernel brings, since I'm not running the leak...
(PM me, if you can)

Agreed that mot_hotplug is probably best for all around "normal" usage/performance. Hotplug will actually shut off core(s) when not in use, as in when the phone is idle or asleep, but when needed takes a bit of 'refreshing' time to come alive.

Sorry to jack the thread but i was just wondering if you know which is better between interactivex and smartassv2? when i had my HTC Aria, i always remember them talking about using smartassv2, so i feel like i should use that vs anything else? I was reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663809 (which is from the SCv7 thread) and was able to understand some of it but could you clarify what makes interactivex so good?

[Q] Governor and Clocking

Whenever I use the built-in Processor manager in CM9 (our CM9) and whenever I change the maximum MHz or the governor everything is fine. However when I'm using some apps such as browser it will soft boot in some times, not rarely but occasionally.
Is this normal? If it is then is SetCPU for Root Users worth buying to use for our phone (it looks very neat and has profiles too!)? If it is not then how will I manage my problem?
Would you point me to the "Processor manager" you are talking about? I didn't know CM9 had one!
Which build of CM9? Have you installed any other kernels or tweaks?
It is not normal in my experience with Team Acid / Hefe Kernel to have unexpected reboots.
What are you trying to manage with the app and when? That may impact the choice.
I use System Tuner (Pro) and find it does what I need. Then again, I don't change settings once I've got a kernel dialed in.

In "Settings" under "Performance", then go to "Processor". Once there you will see some settings pertaining to the processor.
Build R8, no tweaks or custom kernels.

It did for GB. Haven't tried it on ICS. Jeff mentioned System Tuner above and I couldn't agree with him more. It's the only app I use for setting OC/UV as well as I/O schedulers. Try the free version first. It does everything though. SO if you like it kick down for the paid version.
I have used setCPU since I bought it way back when. It works. Jeff's the man though I might have to switch just because lol.

Cedric's the man -- the author of System Tuner Pro. His support has been beyond expectations. I'm very picky about what I pay cash for. His pride in his products and quick, intelligent responses has more than earned the relatively small price that he asks for his "Pro" versions. Past that, he doesn't overly "cripple" his ad-supported versions.
I've never tried SetCPU, but I know many people have had great success with it.
Many of the "tweaks" are governor-specific. Most "reasonable" programs work through the exposed "sysfs" entries that allow one to read/set parameters of the kernel. In this case, the governor, governor parameters, and the voltage table.
I actually experience the same problem with the soft reboots after switching to CM9
So the answer is yes, set cpu will work for our ice cream sandwich phone?
Cause I will buy it now.
Seems to be working fine... For now, when I first tried to set clock settings at:
Min: 200 MHz
Max: 1200 MHz
Governor: SmartAssV2
I/O Scheduler: Deadline (Jeff what scheduler do you suggest? Or is Deadline fine?)
After these settings were put in effect, I went back to the home screen, the screen froze with a weird effect. I had to do a battery pull, rebooted phone and tried to reapply settings again. It worked and I'm going to report back if weird stuff happens.

I've stayed out of the scheduler fray as much as I can. From what I have read, there is a very significant difference between them when you have spinning disks. I've also read that the ones that work well for spinning disks aren't so good for flash media. I've heard that there is a new one in the works for mainline Linux (FIOPS), but it is far from production quality. Not clear how any of them interact with Samsung's umm, well, "unique" approach to managing flash -- we're neither an SSD nor a raw card for internal memory. I switch between deadline and noop with the phase of the moon, and haven't personally noticed an astounding difference between them. I couldn't tell you what I have set right now.

[Kernel][DEV aboot ONLY] Nougat kernels [kltevzw]

Hi everybody!
I'm new to the Verizon S5, but I followed the great bootloader unlocking thread and decided to make some custom roms and kernels. So, this is my kernel thread.
I've been building for the S4 and the Note Edge, so I hope you don't mind if I step in here. I'm not trying to step on anyone else's toes, and I hope you all don't mind another developer hanging around.
You can find all my work at https://github.com/alaskalinuxuser when I get a chance to get it uploaded. I live in Alaska and do have limited and slow internet, so please be patient.
See post #2 for Nougat kernels.
Nougat kernels:
Right now I only have one built:
AOKP 7.1.2 - Tested on a Verizon S5, this kernel can be flashed on any KLTE phone.

great work .
Ive been asking around about this , there was a thread that ported a backtrack/kali for the s5 and that kernel had the feature of controling the tx and rx of the phone, i dont know if you could include those commits in yours as well for LOS and also if that could be applied to the tx and rx of the modem to boost reception of signal for 4G....that's if its possible.
Looking foward to the next updates.

Quick update, new kernel, praise God, it even works!
Overclocked to 2533 MHz without increasing voltage.
I had to reset my cellular settings after flashing this, however, I am using my Verizon phone on an AT&T network through Straight Talk, so I'm not sure if that matters. But after a reset of the cell settings, data started working just fine for me.
My kernels tend to be more battery oriented than performance, but I like to overclock a little without increasing the voltage to get the most bang for the buck. Enjoy!

now since it overclocks maybe now you can attempt to undervolt it and the gpu to the bare minimum that it will allow without it freezing and rebooting ( even better battery life) , on the other kernels ive tried i was able to get it to stay at a -125mv but had to bring the cpu frequency down to 1400'S or 1200's some users said that -100 at stock frequency was stable so mayby for your kernel a -90mv with the overclock is def possible. sadly we still can undervolt or overclock the gpu as well
Actually, my plan is to add voltage control to the kernel, so you can adjust it to any level you want. I just finished adding that option to the Galaxy S4, including the GPU, and hope to do the same here.

You can control this in Kernel Adiutor, but remember, adjusting voltages can be dangerous and may alter the space time continuum of your phone.

WOW!!! testing now , pretty much for me i play one game pretty much all day , so def will test now and report back if any issues occured during the time period.
also my question is , do you see any possibilities of gpu voltage control?
also do include the kcal v2 for the screen (rgb) calibration. to properly dim the blacks and pop up colors.
if you keep this up , seriously hands down your kernel will turn-out to be the best kernel for the S5 , especially since you are putting in new feaures that the other kernels don't have. I mean a gpu overclock , i dont think no other dev have accomplished that.

Well, actually @ktoonsez has a kernel that over clocked the GPU much higher than me. However, my focus is on over clocking without increasing voltage.
As for voltage control for the GPU, I hope so.
I will look into kcal v2? I was thinking of adding @faux123 fauxsound next.
Most of the work I do is piggy backed off of great work from people like ktoonsez, Faux123, and @javelinanddart, so I can't take much credit. Thanks for the kind words though!
