Hi,
I've noticed micro-stutter in transition animations to the point where im convinced its capped to 30fps.
I looked into the issue and checked the hardware specs using adb, and noticed that the display itself only had a refresh rate of 58hz. This shouldnt be a problem (doubt anyone could see a 2hz difference) but somehow it seems to be. I believe it has something to do with vsync recognizing this and cutting the fps to 30 since it doesnt support 58fps. Either that or vsync is capped to 30fps, in which case it'd be helpful if someone could tell me what I can do, if anything. (is it posisble to disable vsync altogether in /sys/module/DC/vsync_enabled? It's not exposed)
Don't really know why it bugs me so much, but it does, it makes everything look choppy.
Thanks.
Hi there and welcome to assist,
Tell us more about your device, please.
Thanks

I'm running GTA 3 v1.3 on my Note and I'm noticing some stutter. Not stutter as in low framerate, but some micro-hangs when driving around. Framerate is very good, but this stutter is not normal. My Galaxy S, while running at a much lower framerate and no audio doesn't exhibit this. It's like read speeds from the internal SD aren't high enough to stream data to the RAM, and this leads to lag. Anyone else having this?
I'm running stock LA4, stock CPU,very few apps installed. Could this be ROM related? I didn't notice this in videos of GTA3 on the Note on YouTube.
Any ideas?
Galaxy S: 800x480
Galaxy Note: 1280x800
The Note has to push A LOT more pixels than the S. GTA doesn't stutter here, but i'm running custom kernel, Franco #7 on LB1 deodexed w/ few stock apps ++.
I'm not talking about framerates. Framerates are high. This is the kind of stutter like there isn't enough RAM.
The only explanation I can give is that SD-card read rates are not high enough.
Hasn't anyone else experienced this on stock ROMs?
Please, can anyone check this on their Note? I'm running LB1 with franco-7 kernel and this is still present. Framerate is even higher now (with frame limiter off, ofcourse) due to the 400 Mhz GPU clock, but it still stutters. This didn't happen on GTA 3 v1.0 when I first tried it when it came out. It could be GTA's fault and not the phone's.
It does this no matter the graphics settings. Even on lowest resolution and view distance and everything else off...
Thanks for the help.
I haven't been playing all that much, but I definitely have had some hangups too, about 0.3-0.5 seconds long.
I assume this is GTA related problems, some caching might be done in the main thread only when certain models/textures are needed, causing the lags. I played several HD games, and others seem to be better at smooth performance.
I had the same problem initially. It would pause for a split second every once in awhile.
Inadvertently because I had just got my phone and was just testing - I had to reinstall and it seemed to run perfectly. I don't know if it's a different version/update (how do you tell?) but I believe it was GTA Anniversary Edition 1.03
Yeah mines the same hangs for a split second maybe once every half hour or something. Not a major issue, its never really bothered me with it not happening very often.

you need to uncheck something from graphic setting mate. if i remember well was lowering viewing distance or something like that... it worked for me after.give it a shot.
I have a problem where it vibrates randomly... Any ideas
No one encountered this?
Yeah, vibrates randomly for me too.
I don't know about the stutter. Don't think this is the phone. It used to run nice and now, despite the good framerate it stutters like mad. Really annoying. Or maybe the borked something in the latest update (v1.3).

Try turning vibration feedback off. Its in options>audio>vibration feedback.
I made it much smoother by unselecting the Max frame rate option I believe, I also installed chainfires 3d app so that may have also contributed.

Any particular settings for Chainfire 3D?
Ive ran a benchmark to see where it sits and it seems to sit right above the prime. this tab has been quite choppy and laggy on apps that i feel should be handled smoothly by the tegra 3. my galaxy s3 performs significantly better than this and its only got the s4 chip. im tryingto figure out if i just have a bad tab off the press and this is not what i should be experiencing.
does anyone know of any tools to do any kind of hardware tests or other tests to determine whether or not this is internally broken or im just expecting more from this tab.
examples of lags: games that should smooth with a consistent frame rate are choppy and frame rate is low, typing on office pro is terribly lagged and have to wait to make sure i spelled things out correctly. i really just hope this is a bad tab so i can just switch it out.
any input relevant to figuring this problem out is appreciated.

Something you might want to try is in Developer Options, eith turn off animation or reset all animation settings to .5 (default is 1.0). This seems to help with lag. There are some other tweaks you can do, especially if you root. Rooting is reversable. Just unlocking bootloader isn't so make sure you really want to keep your TF700 before you unlock. Read up on what's possible...there are quite a few stickied threads relating to your question.
i have it rooted and ive already changed the transitioning to .5 and ive even toggled 2d rendering from the gpu. im very familiar with android so if you have any other tips that involve a rooted device would help.
thanks

You may not want to force gpu rendering all the time, just for some things--like it does help with scrolling through Netflicks--but I think it's a drag on performance in other ways. Just experiment and see what works. If you go into the Development section, there are quite a few tweaks to try out. I really think that our best bet is either through custom roms and the tweaks they contain, or with updated (read Jelly Bean) firmware. I also scrupulously clear out my recent apps, unless I need to go back and forth between apps (multitasking, android style). That frees up a lot of ram.
I was looking around and found fairly easily that the lcd screen used is identified as LH500W1-SD03, now the question or thing i am curious about is does anyone have any specs on this particular lcd module? I am curious because and I know this will sound crazy but if it is 120hz plus wouldn't 3d vision be possible on the shield. Yes i realize that is a pipe dream but still can not help but wonder about it. Also not being able to find any real data sheets on it is puzzling as well.

The max refresh rate of the Shield is 60.55Hz I believe.
hmm
is this why quadrant never shows above 63fps, even when vsync is disabled via pimp my rom?

Simple answer, No.
Long answer, read up.
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=928593
TL;DR:
- Vsync limits frame rate = to Monitor refresh rate
- GPU can push as many frames as it's possible to do so
- Monitors have a set refresh rate
- When the amount of frames is > than the refresh rate, tearing happens
- When the amount of frames is < than the refresh rate, slowdown happens (Vsync enabled only)
This is because the GPU has to wait for the monitor to be ready to draw the next frame, while that's happening, the GPU will draw previous frames. In other words, slow down.
The first day I had my GS22U I noticed what I thought was some sort of odd screen adjustments but thought it may be adaptive brightness learning my habits. As I've used the phone I was able to reliably replicate my issue. Anytime I'm using adaptive refresh rate and I'm using a text field I can see what appears to be very subtle gradient shifts or flickering both when I start typing and when I stop typing. This is especially noticable in Google chromes search bar, Facebook messenger and reddit text fields. If you use a camera to look at the display it almost appears as an old school crt monitor when you see it through a camera. I was able to replicate this issue on my wife's device as well and the issue can be resolved by lowering the refresh rate to 60hz.
Has anyone else noticed this issue, or would car to try to replicate the issue? It is extremely subtle and easiest to detect using a camera to record it. Is there anyway to lock my refresh rate to a higher frequency with root permission?
Update, I happened to scroll down and see the galaxy max hz app that allowed me control over the refresh rate and I noticed that certain frequency would create the aforementioned issue and certain frequencies wouldn't. It seems as if seeing the min to 60 and max to 120 has resolved my flicker issue. Edit: never mind. It seems that different frequencies or the changing of frequencies tends to make the issue worse.
i turned it off, phone is very laggy with it. my screen is flickering
Now it seems as if I'm having a hard time noticing it with my naked eye but it seems to be getting worse when I look at it through a camera. I'm wondering if I should trade this in as a defective device.

No but worried it's going to get worse and become even more noticable with the naked eye. I wouldn't have thought to look at it through a camera if I wasn't noticing something I noticed with my naked eye.

Hey bro , did you fix that issue ??
Anyone else notice this? I did find a small thread on Samsung.com so not sure if its a hardware issue or if all of them have it. - https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...t-flickering-on-video-recordings/td-p/2209967
Seems to only do it at 60fps options 1080p60 and 4K60.
Except its just not flash light related or LED light related. It'll do it outside as well Highly annoying!
I tested it and don't have this issue.

Its not a 100% all the time issue. Its under certain lighting specific lighting conditons. Usually lower light for me
for low light always use auto fps. it was tested to show its actually better and brighter and clearer

Last year on the 12 Pro Max Auto FPS ruined a video that couldnt be remade. It for some reason switched despite being in the bright outside, on top of that it recorded 24fps and made the clip choppy. Not saying samsung would do this but its not worth the risk keeping that enabled.
But the weird flickering has happened with it being bright outside as well

something doesn't seem to be syncing. i would say the flickering is due to hardware more than software. but yea i only switch on auto fps in low light and its been impressive. i forget where but there's a video of the s22u side by side and auto fps was much more preferable since it could slow down frames meaning it would be brighter with less artificial noise reduction
Looks like a PWM frequency issue depending on the brightness of the (flash LED).
Literally just made a thread about this. The exact same problem. Glad to see i'm not the only one, because I wasn't able to find any other person experiencing this. You can see my example videos here:
Is it normal that my camera flickers on videos when the lighting level changes ? Does it happen on you too ?
It's not happening because of the lamps above, it happens on natural lighting too. It happens when camera focuses to a new area where the lighting level is different. Is this a defect, or is it the same for everyone ? Here are 2 example videos...

Hope it's not a hardware problem and they fix it with an update
I'm so happy to say that May update I just received (S908EXXU2AVDA) fixed this problem. Can you check if it's fixed for you too ? @hyelton I tried every specific condition that it flickered before and it doesn't flicker anymore, made me happy that it wasn't a hardware problem and they were aware of the issue.

The US model doesn't have the update. I have the U/U1 model which we just got an update not long ago. So I'm sure it'll he awhile.
Glad it was fixed in an update!

Alright, tell me when you receive the update and check please, you're the only one I can ask this since nobody else was realizing about this problem lol. Hope it gets fixed for you too!

I'll post here if it ever gets fixed. Yeah I'm sure it's just people don't notice it.
Example
I can hand my phone to my mom and set it to 60hz. And low power mode. She will think it's crazy fast and no lag. When it most certainly is not LOL
She does now find her old S10 slow after using a S21 FE the past few weeks.
