What the hell is that black oval? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I've been trying like hell to answer this question myself by googling, but no one seems to have mentioned what it is. There's a black oval just under the ear piece. What is it? I assume it's some kind of depth sensor, but I could be completely wrong, so could someone please tell me if they know?

The LED is under the ear speaker on mine. Lol. The OP is talking about the oval sensor right above the status bar, below the ear speaker.

[Q] What is it

Ok so my phone got smash so I decided to take it completely apart. I was wondering what exactly is the device that has the grey rubber cap on it(under the cap it has a small hole but has a type of mesh on it also) that is between the little sensor that has 3 lenses on it and the ear piece mic. Is it a front facing cam that hasn't been activated? When I put the part number I saw on the end of the ribbon cable a site that says it is a .31mp cam(tp://pdadb dot net/index.php?m=specs&id=2680&view=1&c=samsung_sch-i500_galaxy_s_mesmerize]) under the secondary cam spec. Any ideas??

I saw that thread but nobody actually answered what was the 4 sensors for. I got the part in my hand from the inside of the phone. It has one chip that has 3 sensor on it. Then there is other chip to the right that has a grey cap and one sensor in it and then their is the ear mic. They all are connected with the same ribbon cable. I don't know how to post a pic up here but I can email you one if you would like of it.

I sent you a PM.. I'll pull up what I have and wait for your pic.
Just sent it. It will be coming from a gmail account.
Perhaps the answer people are looking for is: "It's a camera FOR the proximity sensor.." The sensor sends out IR light and then 'looks' at it to see how close it is bouncing off something. NO it cannot be hacked to be a forward facing camera. Period.

Yes our phone has a FFC that no one knew abou till you discovered it from a case...
Yes, as stated earlier, definitely for the light and proximity sensors. If you want to test it, when you are on a call, cover up the hole with your finger. The proximity sensor will turn your display off until you remove your finger again.

G2X Screen

Does anyone else notice tiny light blue dots on their screen when they tilt it at a certain angle?

I don't have this issue either.
Yes i have seen it.
You need to hold it in direct sunlight and at a slight angle. Dont have a clue what it is though.

That sounds like the sensor points (or whatever they're called) for the touchscreen digitizer.
That would make sense.. it never bothers me as you only see it in direct sunlight and at a stupid angle.
I have never seen it during normal use even in bright light.

Yes that is exactly what I was talking about. The sensors make sense actually, never thought of that. Doesn't bother me either, was just wondering if it was only my screen.
Thanks guys!

Thats the proximity sensor and the light sensor. Cover the sensor with your finger, Screen brightness will change if you have auto brightness enabled.

Reflection under glass

Not the oval thing on the top beside the logo, on the actual capacitive screen itself.
I think the dots are just used for the capacitive screen to work. Also, I've noticed that connecting the dots on each line is a horizontal line on each row. I only saw this when putting it next to my lamp thou.

Yes I saw those lines as well! Had to hold it up to a very bright light lol
At the right angle, the reflection from the sun will shot the dots. It's the digitizer, and it looks cool to me. =D

What the hell is this

Huh...
Today I was looking at my 3 weeks old phone and I noticed something like bubble between touch digitizer and LCD...
Has someone else this crap on their phones?
Proximity sensor.
Isn`t proximity sensor ABOVE red circle?
Huh all phones have this:
Swishh....
Yep prox sensor. The HTC screen protectors even have cutouts for that.
Thanks both of you for answers.

That was a perfectly legitimate question.
TBH,I never noticed it until you pointed it out.
Phew...
First time HTC Owner...
I also noticed that when I was cleaning the LCD... I thought it was a defect on my unit...Ignored it because everything was fine and it's actually unnoticeable unless you stick your nose to the LCD when you use the phone
Now I am relieved to know that it is light/proximity sensor...
Thanks!

Where's the Proximity sensor?

I haven't seen this answered anywhere, and looking at close-up photos, I can't seem to find the proximity sensor ... Anyone know where it is?

The little dot in the top just off to the right hand side is my guess because if I cover that spot the phone will not wake with double tap.

Not sure why it uploaded sideways and small but here it is.
That spot flashes with the screen off when you're looking at it through another camera.
