Made a boo boo and purchased the N9005 variant and I'm a straight talk user. I'm sure you can put two and two together and realize I'm only getting 3G service. Now I'm debating to keep the phone or purchase the N900A variant? Either be patient and wait for a tutorial release where At&t's LTE bands are readable or go purchase the N900A?!

Can't remember whether I said in your last thread or not about it, but I'll post again lol. Do you need/want 4G/LTE? - if you can live with 3G then keep it, Plus a few people testify that the Snapdragon model is the better one AND there's more in terms of development and ROMs.

Yes actually I do need the 4G for the use I put into the N9005. Where I'm located. There is no data sent over 3G network. I went to send a text yesterday and I had to downsize it because of no data.

In that case, you kinda answered your own question. Probably better to sell up and get that old N900(A) badboy :good:
You may get lucky and find someone who wants an N9005 and has an N900A, nothing is impossible these days.

Selling it wouldn't be an issue. I'm just looking for an answer "If anyone is actually looking into tweeking the N9005 to read At&t's bands or not." Why I kind of posted this question if I should keep the phone or not. Hate to sell it, two weeks later. Someone found out how to add the two bands.
The bounty for changing the bands has been up a while, now the HW does support it, but there is a reason someone/people haven't changed them (yet) - plus there is a legal side to changing frequencies in countries etc

Indeed you could, if you can afford to have both then do so, you can play around on the 9005 variant with ROMs etc or use as a media player or a backup phone.

Yes would be similar/same as unbranded
The difference is the A and V variants have a locked bootloader - whereas the 900/9005 don't iirc

Not to sound "stupid" but I am sounding stupid. Therefore that variant would read At&t 4G/LTE? Google isn't very friendly when trying to search this.

So it seems the CDMA s6 uses the qualcomm MDM9635 modem instead of the shannon 333. This is surely because of the fact CDMA patents are largely owned by qualcomm (something along the lines of that) . What I want to speculate on is the fact that both the sprint and U. S. Cellular version have more lte bands listed than the Verizon model. Most notably 12 and 17. These would be great to have especially if someone ever wanted to jump ship to T-Mobile or AT&T (I'm sure for that exact reason verizon probably asked for them to be disabled). I'm wondering if we ever received root, and that's a big if, we could theoretically unlock those bands also. All in all it would make this phone more globally and domestically appealing. What are you guys thoughts on this? Hopefully we can have some devs jump aboard once we achieve root to make this happen.

Just a guess but I don't think just having root would allow this as at bare minimum it sounds like you'd have to modify the RIL.
Just get a Canadian variant G920W8. No CDMA support, but full LTE interoperability with SHANNON333 modem supporting Band 12, 13, 17, 2, 4, 5, 29.

If CDMA wasn't an issue I would have got the international SM-G925F because that has plenty of LTE Band support. But at least for the next few years verizon still has a CDMA network and where I'm at that's the only provider I get good service with.

I tried on my rooted G920V. Can not connect to QPST or DFS. Are you sure there is a MDM9635?

Well in all honesty the sprint galaxy s6 uses the mdm9635 as per a sprint rdf file on the phone. I was just making the assumption that the Verizon one would use the same one.
I'd love to hear if anyone else succeeds w/ this. I need more LTE bands than the crap list that Verizon supports on this damn modem

The hardware is definitely capable. It's just a matter of someone more experienced tampering around. It should be on a software side that the bands are being disabled. Unfortunately if there is code within the kernel itself that's blocking these bands we may never be able to utilize them.

Verizon supports very few other LTE Bands for international users. Those in Asia do not have LTE coverage.

The thing is its stated you might need a custom kernel for these changes to stick. Seeing as our bootloader is locked most likely we will never get anything more than a custom rom. I don't really think any devs are looking into this. Modem work isn't really my cup of tea. Hope eventually someone comes up with something.

I have been using it on T-Mobile for months now other than 4G everything is the same as on Chinese carriers. Install Play Store and google sync from App Center to sync the contacts and you are good to go

i have the Huawei Honor X2 and I contact Huawei customer service and they send me an update which allow me to open 4G LTE. I was shocked because i was expecting just 4G but they unlocked it and I'm getting around 20 Mbps on T-mobile here in USA. Anyway I'm telling my story so you can do the same and enjoy your phone. I had a galaxy note 4 but now this phone is wayyyyy better than stupid Samsung.

Which model version of the Honor X2 are you currently using on T-Mobile US. I really want either the P8MAX or Mediapad X2; don't really care about the 4G issue at this point but, if I can get 4G on T-Mobile, I'd be a happy camper. Especially now that I'm going to let my Verizon Unlimited Data Feature GOOOOOOOO the way of the Dodo Bird. I know that the Honor X2 is just the Chinese market iteration and that it's basically the same Mediapad X2 with a different model name but, any info would be useful, especially, what department at Huawei did you contact to render this support? And, how did they facilitate the process of unlocking the 4G LTE? I've tried contacting Huawei just to get information on these two devices and have gotten no one to shed any light on USA Network Band compatibility. It's a shame that, we, as American consumers have to be at the mercy of whatever contracts and agreements the carriers sign or enter into with manufacturers and OEMs; in this case, Samsung and i Apple control everything that comes into this country which really screams anti-trust (which no one cares about at this point).

Which begs my question: U.S. network band(s) compatibility, is that a true hardware issue or is it merely the code that's written into the system that bars (no pun intended) the reception of the U.S. bands' frequencies?
I highly suspect it is the latter because, I hacked a Verizon DROID 3 a couple of years ago to work with ALL GSM networks, including T-Mobile U.S. and AT&T U.S., which prior to my hack, wouldn't even recognize either carrier's SIM, let alone register on their respective 2G/3G frequencies. Anyone familiar with the Verizon DROID 3 knows that, in the U.S., it was locked for CDMA use ONLY. I was able to do this by editing the build.prop, using code from the Chinese (or international) DROID 3 (aka XT883, Motorola Milestone).

Is this hspa+ 3G speeds or slower? The hspa+ should be 42mbps or 20something if it's the previous version.
Also gizok emailed me back saying they don't have mine in stock even though their website said they did, which is horse**** and the reason I ordered from them. So I'm grumpy and had them refund me. Hopefully that doesn't take as long as it took for them to realize they didn't have my item, which was like 2 weeks.

Just a tip to all, if you know you will not be getting LTE, just turn it off in the setting(preferred network) so that your phone does not waste battery searching for it.
I'm about to sell mine cause of lack of development on it granted its a big screen but other then that Huawei's in house o.s is less to be desired in my opinion if kirin chip was more dev friendly but Huawei is more like Samsung and keeping there code secret

Which version do you have? Which version of android is it running? How much are you letting it go for? Do you do swappa or ebay? so many questions.
Its running 5.1 lolli and is rooted and twrp got its the China version 703 if I'm not mistaken whats the going rate for $400 + its in very child condition

So looking at the specs for the Mate 9, it looks like even though it's advertised as GSM unlocked only, the MHA-L29 model has all the CDMA radios to make it work on a US network like Verizon. This seems similar to the Axon 7. I know it's only just come out in the US, but I'm curious if anybody is planning on trying it on Verizon or another CDMA network. I have Verizon and the Mate 9 looks like an amazing phone, but I don't want to drop $600 on it without being relatively sure it'll actually work.
Have you asked Verizon if they are going to sell or support it?

Even if they don't it would be still usable on their network. That is, IF it has the proper CDMA for Verizon and/or Sprint. Like the Axon 7, it will show "roaming" but will work fine. I think it will be a matter of waiting until someone tries it. I would totally do it but no Best Buy within 250 miles of me has one in stock.

yea it's too bad. i'd been looking forward to this phone for a long time.
screen is awesome, really bright, super fast. way more responsive than the pixel.
speaker sucks, but so does the pixel's.
i don't get the point of launching in the US to only half of the potential customers.
I keep pressing sprint to accept it. Otherwise our 2 accounts will be bought out via another carrier. Where i work i get a big discount on Verizon so i can get a huge plan for less, better speeds n service etc.

It's not up to Sprint. The hardware is CDMA compatible (and works on CDMA in China), but it has not yet been certified by the FCC to use CDMA in the US. As per Anandtech in their Kirin 960 review:
"It should be pointed out that CDMA certification for the US via the FCC takes 18-24 months, and I was unable to confirm when the process was started, so we may have to wait another year for a US-focused CDMA devices."

one of innumerable articles about the Pixel is that it took 9 mos to build, start to finish.
and I think there was also a short timeline for the S6 after Samsung ditched the 810.

It's not about the phone, it's the chipset. Qualcomm has a lot of CDMA technology IP, so phones that use CDMA either have needed to use Qualcomm's chips, or pay them royalties. I believe the Kirin 960 is one of the first non-Qualcomm chips to natively support CDMA. But the FCC has to approve it's use in the US. I believe this is why Samsung has used their own Exynos chips in their phones in other markets, but uses Qualcomm's chips in phones destined to the US... it's cheaper and/or easier to just buy Qualcomm's chips that have already been approved.

oh ok, that make sense.
so when Samsung skipped the 810 completely in the S6/Note 5 and just went with their Exynos, they still used Qualcomm's radios for the Sprint/Verizon versions.

so if it is technically possible to run this on Sprint (thinking Project FI which uses TMobile and Sprint 90% of the time), then is there a way to force the device to use the CDMA modem for the US Dual-band models (L29)? Is this a matter of Sprint rejecting the IMEI (akin to verizon) due to the chipset not "qualified" for use by FCC, or is it somehow disabled in the device? IF this is something turned off at the device (because it was shipped to US?), is there a custom ROM / Firmware that can be used to enable it? I'd really like to keep FI but right now my shiny new device wont switch over from TMobile to Sprint. #Pissed.
I'm bought in at this point, so if theres a way to do it, I'll do whatever is necessary, including voiding warranty.
my impression was the CDMA was for China DATA and not a voice CDMA. I bought 2 of the mate 9s but I may have to sell out - ATT covers 99% of the people - as long as they are in metro areas. Disapointing, I love these phones.......

While it may be CDMA compatible I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it ever to be here in the US, Huawei hasn't even been updating the US model of the mate 9 (last security patch was from May), and as far as I can tell the mate 10 is the last one with a US model, none of the new honor phones are US, just international models. With the BS from the government and the lack of support for US customers I think Huawei is a dead horse as far as we are concerned
Has anyone considered using the Global or the Korean version of this phone on ATT network? I don't buy a phone if I can't have bootloader unlock and root access. Right now it looks like only Exynos versions of this phone will have this. Just wanted to know if anyone is using one on ATT and what their experience has been.

There is a big discussion about this over on the S8+ forum. There are trade offs, but I think they have ironed out most of the big set backs.

I did a comparison of the bands and it seems the Korean version (SM-N950N) has all the same bands as the ATT version. I figure I just pop in my SIM card and go. Am I misssing anything?

Some of AT&T's network features will not work.
WiFi calling, VoLTE, etc.
There are some workarounds out there, but the results vary.

I think Band like 28 or 29 is missing. It's the carrier aggregation band. So you won't miss it unless you live in a big city.
I know there were other issues as well, I ended up getting the AT&T S8+ and now the AT&T Note 8. Too many weird things to deal with on the international versions.
I think it's missing G things like Samsung pay as well.
Also root is a bit tricky now too. You can use magisk to hide your root from "Safety Net" checking apps (Netflix, Samsung pay, Android pay, Pokémon Go etc.) but every time Google updates Safety Net or any of those apps update your access to them will be broken until magisk gets updated. Can take weeks sometimes.

I did a comparison of the bands and it seems the Korean version (SM-N950N) has all the same bands as the ATT version. I figure I just pop in my SIM card and go. Am I misssing anything?
