Note 3 N9005, keep or not?! - Galaxy Note 3 General

Made a boo boo and purchased the N9005 variant and I'm a straight talk user. I'm sure you can put two and two together and realize I'm only getting 3G service. Now I'm debating to keep the phone or purchase the N900A variant? Either be patient and wait for a tutorial release where At&t's LTE bands are readable or go purchase the N900A?!

Can't remember whether I said in your last thread or not about it, but I'll post again lol. Do you need/want 4G/LTE? - if you can live with 3G then keep it, Plus a few people testify that the Snapdragon model is the better one AND there's more in terms of development and ROMs.

Yes actually I do need the 4G for the use I put into the N9005. Where I'm located. There is no data sent over 3G network. I went to send a text yesterday and I had to downsize it because of no data.

In that case, you kinda answered your own question. Probably better to sell up and get that old N900(A) badboy :good:
You may get lucky and find someone who wants an N9005 and has an N900A, nothing is impossible these days.

Selling it wouldn't be an issue. I'm just looking for an answer "If anyone is actually looking into tweeking the N9005 to read At&t's bands or not." Why I kind of posted this question if I should keep the phone or not. Hate to sell it, two weeks later. Someone found out how to add the two bands.

The bounty for changing the bands has been up a while, now the HW does support it, but there is a reason someone/people haven't changed them (yet) - plus there is a legal side to changing frequencies in countries etc

Which is why I'm thinking with the whole legal spectrum of it. The tweek hasn't been released. :crying:
Could possibly just keep it for a rainy day and have both variants.

Indeed you could, if you can afford to have both then do so, you can play around on the 9005 variant with ROMs etc or use as a media player or a backup phone.

Still have yet to break her in but noticed the N900 variant. Would that be classified as the unbranded version of the variants At&t and T-Mobile are running or?

Yes would be similar/same as unbranded
The difference is the A and V variants have a locked bootloader - whereas the 900/9005 don't iirc

Not to sound "stupid" but I am sounding stupid. Therefore that variant would read At&t 4G/LTE? Google isn't very friendly when trying to search this.

It should do yes, unless ATT have some stupid agreement with Samsung which I doubt.
Give ATT a ring, ask them if they support the N900 to be 100%

US Cellular Variant Offical Thread

Hey guys, the Samsung Galaxy S III is finally coming to US Cellular this Thursday and/or Friday.
This is the official thread for the US Cellular variant of the phone.
We will discuss mods, flashing, rooting, and etc.
In for my 2 friends on USCC whose phones I'll be rooting (for tether). Hopefully it won't be locked like VZW.

It won't, I spoke with a US Cellular representative today and it's where I got the release date and other details.
The thing is, that the phone does have a lot of similarities with Verizon, so the devs have 2 options.
They can make one for US Cellular and edit it for Verizon.
But as Verizon is a larger carrier, they'll probably get the Developer's edition of the phone and then at some point make a root for the US Cellular version.
You think that CyanogenMod 9 or 10 will be supported for the USC variant?

There's no reason why not.
As far as root, the CWM flash method has worked on all variants thus far, I don't see why it won't work on the USCC phone.
I am switching this fall when my contract is up in Verizon to US Cellular. What will the dev scene look like on this phone? Will it be easy to port ROMs from other GS3? If there are very few devs working on this phone, how easy is it for a end user to port the ROM from another GS3?
since I already have a mini sim and a lTE acount thats active, from my Galaxy Nexus on verizon, can I just pay cash for the us cellular version and plug in my active sim and it will work?

Well, there are already people getting the phone today, but I know that past phones like the Mesmerize and the Aviator have been Cyanogenmod supported, and Root supported.
Do you happen to know which carrier US Cellular has the most similarities to?

The US Cellular variant of the Galaxy S II shared a lot of similarities with the Epic4G Touch.
Well, as US Cellular is finally starting to grow, I've seen a lot of developers for AOKP and CM9 discussing the possibilities of ROMs by making it for the 4G Touch, and just porting it over by changing a few things.
I can't answer that last question as I really have no idea on porting ROMs, but as I said in another post, it's either closer to Verizon or Sprint.
But for the S II, I've seen a few threads that it was very easy, but that they just had to change a few things, so I'm assuming that it's not that much of a hassle.

I've tried Googling that but I can't seem to find an answer.
Some answers say yes some say no, but I think that US Cellular has more similarities to Verizon than any other carrier, at least that's my speculation in terms of radios, as they both use the same spectrum.
But you can go to the website and go to a live chat with a representative and ask there.
Has anyone rooted this phone yet? Can we get our own section?

The instructions at galaxys3root.com works for US Cellular.
So it is confirmed that this phone has an unlocked bootloader?
Has anyone tried and can verify on U.S. Cellular that they have used galaxys3root.com and it worked?
this phone can be rooted with the method that team epic uses for the sprint version. I dunno what the website you're talking about does but it is the same method as it is with all the other carriers.
I would love to see a separate section for us, no we aren't gonna have a whole lot of development going on compared to the big 4 but it would be really nice to have a place where we can have specific discussions and rom ports and things for just us.
Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk 2
Does anyone know if a verizon mini sim will work in this device?
Yes that site just has a set by step guide for installing the Team Epic recovery using ODIN and it worked on my US Cellular Galaxy S III.
Seconded on the separate forum idea. I think there will be more than enough people to have one. I know a lot of people is moving to this from the Desire and that had a decent sized community.
Successful root using teamepics procedure.
Agree with vex and all the rest. A separate forum for USCC GS3 owners would be wonderful.
Who would we contact to get a separate section?

Can I flash ee uk firmware on unlocked snapdragon s8 plus?

I've just bought a galaxy s8 plus on gumtree and just realised it's an American unlocked version. I wanted to flash EE firmware to enable Wi-Fi calling but I'm not sure if it's still possible using Odin as the uk phones have different chipsets.
Can anyone confirm either way?
Thanks in advance.

flash exynos rom on snapdragon , great idea if you want a brick. No joke, it won't work for sure. and if you flash the Exynos firmware with odin , including bootloader , it would be an hard brick, won't turn on , no more recovery or download mode, just completely bricked. So just no. and wifi calling is nothing to do with the phone but with your carrier and or your current subscription. if your carrier doesn't support wifi calling you won't have that option, so other firmware or even force to show that option changes nothing as you would have the same carrier .
and of course a csc (firmware depend of the country) works only with the right SIM card , I mean samsung block the phone if you use an American SIM card on a European phone. European phone works only with European SIM card and European carrier

Supports all 3 lte bands used by the UK, 800 1800 and 2600.
Supports all 3 GSM bands used by the UK.
Supports all 3 utsm bands used by the UK.
So in other words you were 100% incorrect

I really hope this guy didn't just blindly listen to you and dump his phone for cheap.

The other person could not be more incorrect your phone works fine in the UK, along with every other high end us phone for the last like 10 years
I hope you still have it and didn't dump it for cheap because someone decided to open their big mouth without actually checking that their gut reaction has any basis in reality.
I don't know if there is full CSC support for the UK carriers, but all u1 phones are direct from Samsung and sim unlocked at the factory so you will be able to pop any uk sim in there and be able to use data/sms/voice etc no problem. What provider do you use? I can check my /system/omc directory and see if it's preinstalled by the standard is CSC package.
It's also quite likely that if not you can install the local CSC package that comes with exynos phones on yours. Not only are the other posters 100% wrong about the SD/exynos phones habing incompatible operating systems*, but even if there was a shred of truth to it the CSC package is mostly config files and images and whatnot anyway, so there little execution going on
*It has nothing to do with exynos or snapdragon they are both arm64 lol. If anything it's because Samsung kneecapped them to make sure it wasn't possible for licensing/snapdragon bootloader security or some other stupid thing.

Hi
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a long and in depth reply.
I did reply to the guys post earlier stating that it the phone works absolutely fine on 4g LTE. I just thought he misunderstood me. Or vise versa. I've not dumped the phone because it works fine. Even if I can't get WiFi calling sorted I will still be keeping it. As long as I can still get updates ota I will be happy..
I bought a note 5 a few months ago not realising it was an AT and T model. That was a pain because it was stuck on lollipop and wouldn't accept any ota updates without an AT AND T sim card.
So I was just a bit wary of that happening again. But with this phone being unlocked I'm sure updates will be just the same as UK phones. (hopefully).
Just for the record my phone is running on E.E. carrier.
I've not checked if it's ever been rooted before.
How would I check?
Would a root checker app do this?
Thanks again
Simon.

Exynos Note8 on AT&T?

Has anyone considered using the Global or the Korean version of this phone on ATT network? I don't buy a phone if I can't have bootloader unlock and root access. Right now it looks like only Exynos versions of this phone will have this. Just wanted to know if anyone is using one on ATT and what their experience has been.

I think Band like 28 or 29 is missing. It's the carrier aggregation band. So you won't miss it unless you live in a big city.
I know there were other issues as well, I ended up getting the AT&T S8+ and now the AT&T Note 8. Too many weird things to deal with on the international versions.
I think it's missing G things like Samsung pay as well.
Also root is a bit tricky now too. You can use magisk to hide your root from "Safety Net" checking apps (Netflix, Samsung pay, Android pay, Pokémon Go etc.) but every time Google updates Safety Net or any of those apps update your access to them will be broken until magisk gets updated. Can take weeks sometimes.

Singapore S9+ VoLTE on T-Mobile USA

I'm sorry if this question is answered elsewhere but can someone please tell me if it's possible to enable VoLTE for T-Mobile USA on the exynos DUOS variant of the S9+ from Singapore? If root is required, can someone tell me what steps are required to get there? Currently I have 4G service as reported by speedtest but whenever I place a call all the data goes away.
Not a total noob but almost.
Thanks
Welcome to XDA! T-mobile US VoLTE is not yet working on the Exynos DUOS. We will need someone like TKKG1994 to work his magic like he did for international S8 version. The CSC for Tmobile is built for Snapdragon so it will need to be ported to Exynos variant. Most likely, you will have to root to get there when it becomes available. (Thanks to the awesome devs here...)

thanks for the info! do you know if att VolLTE would work in the US on this phone?
None of the US VoLTE would work until one of the devs figure out a way to integrate it. AT&T requires an AT&T phone to register for VoLTE so your best bet would be to get an AT&T phone. Someone had success on S8 Exynos by providing AT&T an IMEI from AT&T branded phone and then using the Exynos with "US CSC patch" someone had combined. Hit the thanks button if you find the post useful

I think having a US model will always get you a better chance of VoLTE vs international Exynos model. I do not use AT&T or Verizon so I am not entirely sure but read a few other posts in this matter.
I bought S9+ from Samsung in Singapore. Brought to US, 4G works fine on Tmobile.
At first, I can't get 4G to show up. Upgraded software, still 4G does not show up.
Then I asked someone to send me a text message and I made a quick phone call. 4G showed up after that. I think it needs a synchronization.
Do you have VoLTE though? When you make a phone call does it stay 4G or does it change to H+?
On the Exynos variants you will get 4G data but not at the true data speeds and noVoLTE as I have noticed with my Korean variant. If you have already rooted and got things going you can follow a thread by a fellow international user on XDA who was able to achieve on his Note8.

When I call, I notice it stays 4G. Web surfing also on 4G. I notice it is a bit faster than my older S6.
Note that Singapore S9+ only has 4 bars signal strength, not like US version which has 5 bars. So you might notice it is lower signal strength but the dBm is probably the same. I have no way of measuring so I don't know.
Just FYI everyone, TekHD has forged a CSC flashable that gives all carrier features from Tmobile on international Exynos model. !!!

As title says, usually when you pre order a flagship phone from Samsung you get some kind of free item, but can't find anything. Got the Samsung buds free with the S10+. Can't find anything with the Note 10.

No freebies, for now at least
Nothing noted with my pre-order just an extra £100 with any trade in I do (which I won't be doing) shame but still
Where can we purchase the international version from the US please?

Samsung is only interested in the US. I guess that's where they also gets a bulk of their customers..

Are you sure you want to? I thought the exynos versions don't work in US carriers that's why they use snapdragons? If you do want one I'd imagine ebay or one of the Chinese sites like gearbest would be your best bet.

Verizon told me they will support it gsm but as to whether it will ever do CDMA, i don't know. I think i need to get the latin verson exynos note 10 for that.
Are you looking for the exynos so you have root capability?
Edit: just done a bit of digging and you may be OK with att and tmobile but verizon and sprint can only work on CDMA.

I'm not really sure to be honest. I'm sure the dev community will have it cracked already though. I don't bother these days as I know it can limit some features and android is as open as I need it to be. I'd prefer the snapdragon variant but I'd have to go through the hassle of importing it and sacrifice the warranty and on an £1100 device its just not worth it for me personally

I can understand that but I am sending mine back for the same reason, I forgot the SD855 is very unlikely to get root.
Nah. Nothing. The s10+ was an outlier since the last pre order bonus in the UK was the dex thing for the note 8.
A work colleague got free buds with the s10e. I think it sucks how Samsung treats UK customers compared to elsewhere. I've been an avid note customer since day one and in all that time received a couple of free charging pucks and a GearVR (from Carphonewarehouse).
