S L O W gpu on STOCK pixel - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I have been using a STOCK pixel (purchased from verizon), running the latest os release, set up device as new and have downloaded a few dumb apps from the app store (basic ones like instagram and twitter, candy crush etc), have been MAINLY using 'cookie jam' which is a pretty basic candy crush style app, and within the minute of me starting to play it the frames load s l o w, like i am over loading my gpu! I have to close the app and start it again then the same behavior reappears, nothing is running in the background (user accessible, since I have NOT tinkered with this device at all). I am using about 20 per cent of my total storage so, really have no idea what the deal is, specially since this app is pretty, well, dumb (but I love it!). I experience this behavior (since I have had the phone in my possession) mainly on cookie jam and a little in candy crush but again, I do N O T play any other games (for now).....
Please advise
=)
p.s. I have deleted then re installed the app to no avail, I am thinking this app is not 'optimized' for this version of android but, since its requirements are so low I am thinking I might have to do something else.....

Enough with the nonsense of this $800 device that does not perform up to industry standards out of the box. Unable to tinker with this since it is my daily driver. RETURN! ((or I could wait months (since I am FULL time employed and run a household full of kids)until I am able to finish up code to make this POS excel at basic functionality, hhhhmmmmmmmm, NOPE)). Return, return, returned!
=)

LOL nothing wrong with the device or GPU, I play crap load of games and its flawless. It was either your device or the apps you are using. This is easily the best performing Android phone ever.

The maze is not meant for you

a few months later but still worth me saying that yeah, I dont think there was anything wrong with the hardware, mainly the only game that I have time to play is so low level that would not play properly on this device.... I was going to let it go until it got optimized but I couldnt bear the mono audio from the dinky speaker so yeah, patience-less I
ended up returning......
anywho, for what its worth...
:good:

For the hell of it, I installed the "game" not sure what your problem is with it, runs fine and fast here

[Q] Skytex Primer Pocket

So I have a Skytex Primer Pocket, little 4.3" thing running Android 2.2. No market, no official Google apps, and, above all, no mention of it anywhere except for brief reviews. So I'm looking into rooting it, or just getting the Market onto it (and maybe the Gmail app). It comes with GetJar, which, as I've just learned, is a ****ty alternative app store full of spam and ads. I'm also learning that if you wanna have a half way decent experience you NEED the Market, which this doesn't have. I've had very little experience with Android (never owned an Android device before this), so please bear with me if I say or said something stupid. What would yall smart people suggest?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
oops! sorry
I just got a pocket primer for my three year old to play with (navigates my EVO 4G better than my wife). In it's stock form he can play videos and basic angry birds but even he will get frustrated if I can't get the same apps on that thing as the rest of his family has,......and he beats me.
haha wow i'd given up on this thread. I've actually pretty much given up on my device entirely and use it almost exclusively as an mp3 player. The browser doesn't open anymore (it displays a message stating that it crashed whenever I open it), the wifi doesn't turn on and it's just a ****ing piece of ****.

The problems you are having can most likely be resolved by hitting the reset button, as I have had to do once or twice. Also, if you wanted it to have all the things you mentioned, why did you buy this device? The ad states pretty clearly that the apps market that this device uses is Getjar. And, once again, you get what you pay for. BTW, there are many apps on the Amazon Apps Market that work just fine.
You can also download 1 Mobile Market as a good alternative, much better than Getjar...

Yeah I had mine given to me and wasn't really sure what to expect, but wasn't terribly impressed. It makes an OK media player. And yes, I ended up resetting it and getting the browser back.
As for 1 Mobile Market, good to know, will try it. Thanks. For everyone who has it: is it "pre rooted"? like, when you connect with ADB do you get a root shell, or do i have a weird one?
hmmm I wonder if SlideMe market would work as well, I think all skytex devices come with root already its one of there monkiers, I just wish the dev community would pick a couple up and throw ROM's at em cheap devices that work well as gifts but have crappy stock roms
right now my daughter is using one as mp3 player and using amazon market on it but she calls me everyday and I have to tell her reset, Im just going to start answering the phone, "reset it"
I have tried myself with the Gapps and i managed to install them by installing the market vending. Youtube doesnt work, and by that I mean that the video doesnt play. Which I cant understand because mobile youtube can play just fine. Plus from what I can remember it disables its own lockscreen and the home button ceases to work and a factory reset is the only answer. Defiantly a unique situation and ridiculous as well. How does all that happen from just installing the market? A clusterf**k of BS is all I can say about it. These low grade tablets are mostly hopeless to get properly suited with G apps so Im at a loss for anything else to do.

Are T-Mobile bloatwares slowing the phone down?

I have the T-Mobile Sensation 4G.
I have been too lazy to do s-off/root and put a custom rom on it, since I found the phone to have pretty decent speed so far. But lately I found my phone to be rather slugghish at times, so I decide to do it.
So I followed the guides here, got s-off and root. The first things I did was to remove all the t-mobile bloatwares, slacker and nova. By the time I've done that, it was late at night and I didn't want to stay up all night to backup/restore everything, so I just stopped there and planned to continue the next day.
I have been busy and never really got the time to sit down backing up everything and put a new rom on it. But to my surprise, I found my phone to be much more responsive now. It has been a week now, and I must say I'm very happy about it. All I did was removing the t-mobile bloatwares. Honestly I didn't expect anything from doing that other than free-ing up some insignificant storage space. Can't help but wonder what were the t-mobloat doing to this phone?
For me, they were doing really fun things like autostarting themselves after I killed them with a task manager, hogging up to 50% of my ram without any way to stop them (before i rooted/flashed cm7), bugging me about tmo stuff, trying to get me to pay to watch internet tv, starting world war 3, launching nuclear weapons, acting as a beacon for alien invaders, and last but not least, opening a portal to Cthulhu.

Taking up RAM is fine, as long as you have positive amount of free memory and the apps are not taking up processor resources. Free memory = unused resources. There is no point of having more memory if you have several hundreds of free memory lying around all the time. What is important is that the OS will efficiently kill processes and release occupied memory when an active app requires them, and Android is doing a pretty good job on that.
What I want to know is, beside taking up memory, what are these t-mobloats actually doing to take up processor resources?
They are running things in the background because they are badly coded, they are downloading updates for themselves (without telling you), they are using background data, and opening a portal to Cthulhu does need a lot of CPU time.

Back to the Future or Kit Kat 4.4

It's been a little over a week now of my downgrade experiment. I really never had a chance to see my Shield LTE running Kit Kat 4.4 and I'm overjoyed with how much more reliable it is now.
The only con I really found was some Bluetooth playback issues with VLC player installing Viper Audio seemed to fix that.
In a nutshell I have lollypop running on My 1st gen Nexus7 was on the Shield and 4.4 on my Moto X. I found on both devices Lollipop added lag and freezing some app issues and restarts. I won't consider Lollypop or ART and plan to skip it completely.
There is no way 5.0 is touching my phone. My 1st gen MotoX has been the best phone I have ever seen, remarkable coming from a phone store manager.
As a off topic I also love Harbormobile.com's $15 tablet plan At&t has better coverage in my area but T-Mobile is 30/10 compared to 10/2 and I get free music streaming At&t didn't offer for twice the price. My application was for road use.
Ok, I give up. A few days later this attempt failed too. I spend more time in the day attempting to unfreeze, control lag and generally fix this tablet than actually using it. I officially call shenanigans on Nvidia and their ability to come up with incredible specs and features but still be utterly useless. Done with Nvidia and perhaps even Android. I find it hilarious that my 1st gen Moto X outperforms this piece of **** seemingly in every way with hundreds of apps on it...

Bro my tablet flies in every day use, and in gaming. On stock Lollipop as well. I have no clue what people are having problems with to be completely honest...but I have literally tried to make this tablet studder with no avail.
My tablet also had lag issues and hang ups. But I read somewhere that doing factory resets helped for many users. So I did a factory reset. That seemed to help a LOT with the lag/system hangs. Also, maybe you should double check the nVidia Shield Power Control options. I kept it on the Optimized setting and it's really smooth with good battery life. I hope your experience improves! =)

OK JRummy apps "App Manager" has a feature called (MinFree Manager) built-in just max out the top slider and leave it running in background. The app has a set at boot option but it won't work on my 4.4 LTE version.
I now have my Shield tablet running well due to this app. Try it out should work for you too,.

You mean this?
I think I'll download it. Need to keep Chrome in its place.
Yup lemme know what 6ou think.
Guys, second post on this topic today. Just want to add my experience in getting my NST out of lag hell. I tried everything including lollipop (I had such high hopes for that one after nothing I tried got KK to perform), all the updates, custom fix ideas, everything. I haunted these forums for months. Was very frustrated and nearly threw my device against a wall several times. Then I decided to just try it at factory settings (which, upon reflection, I don't think I ever did I was so keen to update right out of the box) so I did a reset and turned off updates (actually Froze them using SDMaid).
Bottom line - now this tablet ****ing kills. It's rooted and Xposed/GravityBox-ed up. All the best root apps, etc. I'm so happy, I can't tell you. I gladly traded an over hyped OS "upgrade" for a pure Android KK. After 6 months of not a single substantial issue, I'm finally back here just curious to see if there are any new tweaks to try out. Sadly, I still see people with exactly the same issues and frustrations as I once had.
If I may make a suggestion, do a Titanium backup and then a factory reset with updates turned off - you have absolutely nothing to lose and a great tablet experience that sees it live up to its expectations to gain.
And thanks to all for taking part in this supremely helpful suite of NST forums. I wish I had a real fix to offer, I really do. But I can tell you that I'm not missing out on anything by using a pure Android KK 4.4.2.
Best of luck,
BlackLizrd

android 10 -waiting for permissions & app not installed garbage

super annoying, just like using apps without any updates forced upon them!
willing to pay, donate to get android 9 apps working on Android 10 ,name your price ,20,50, 100? doesn't matter to me what it takes lol
some apps do work but without apple headed 3 dots lol some don't, I got money for any dev ,begging at this point lol!
the music app I installed has not been updated since android 8, but works with dumb 3 dot apk overlay garbage to open settings. without overlay garbage not option appear to be available, (nice job #spamsung for removing the setting button since the note 3 , now I see why CONTROL
off topic somewhat related.
a lot of stuff I believed because genuinely told be other members/devs believed it to be true but some hacks are sitting in plain sight but becausewe think it to be impossible don't work on it, long story short bought a LG wing locally from a scammer/thief ,didn't know it was demo. no one at least I think no one here on xda would believe that the demo phone would ever work for making calls because demos don't have modem .well it's currently working to make calls by super a simple process. anyone who cares to know ask and I will say, my findings were that if it had wifi it has modem becausethey are not separated . not sure if any even cares much to be honest, except for the persons like me.lol

app permissions removed by phone without asking!

I always had suspected that Samsung would infringe on my new phone, finally received evidence directly from Samsung so its undeniable now!
it's a setting you control. by design as specified by latest Android

You should probably spend some time learning about Android 11 and up and the permissions. If you look, you will see this is an option YOU can control.
Don't blame Samsung for your lack of knowledge.

Since Pie and especially 11 onward Android is full of unpleasant surprises.
I would have it left on 10... I'm deliberately still running Pie on my 10+
i like getting home from work or using weekends spending the evening ticking boxes windows 10 style has always been a favorite of mine, phew windows xp was so boring, nothing to always fix, and thanks android 11 now I get to have all kinds of fun reading through litigation style setting the power that be keep implementing on MY device, kinda like buying a car and regularly functions change, causing annoying problems, (oh wait maybe updates never cause problems? )
so should we start updating automobiles for all that fun downtime and relaxing manual reading goodness?
nah window xp and note 10 is the way for me see

yup.... I wont go on a rant (which means I will...) but this, along with other compromises like this have convinced me there needs to be a minor Revolution in handsets. I mean a device created remind you of the device next to it. Unfortunately I smashed my phone a few months ago and at an inopportune time was forced to choose a new one. I left the whole table open (barring how ridiculous). I chose a pixel 4XL. There were many factors ( mostly personal preferences), but in the end I saw the writing on the wall. Nothing impressed me. A brand new phone would be painful proper rooting. This left only the devices worked over by better individuals (xda members).
And when it came down to it if the bootloader couldn't be unlocked, it was a deal-breaker.
I think the last genuine phone for the average nerd was the Nexus 6.
.... Okay I vented .
I had the same issue in Android 12 with my new handset except only Google didn't tell me like Samsung told you. They just did it.

Android and Samsung are a mess now. I got my 2nd new N10+ less a year ago. Both are stock running on 9 and 10. Even though I disable firmware updates/upgrades I still fight with Samsung apps like Wearables for the Buds+.
It's updates and performance zenithed about a year ago, everything since just degrades it, including the audio. I roll it back but it wants to force update. Fighting with it now, again*.
Samsung hasn't released anything near as good since the N10+, they've lost their minds. Fk em.
Android reached their zenith at 9, scoped storage sucks and isn't needed. This N10+ running on 9 has no issues other than what Samsung continues to screw with
I use whatever works and comes in handy even if it's 3 years old. That goes for hardware and firmware... I don't give a rat's arse about having the newest if it isn't a well balanced, clean running improvement.
* edit, fixed. Uninstalled all Buds and Wearables updates, reinstalled older saved versions, after firewall blocking specific update UIDs. Old UI and the sound volume/Q restored.
Agreed, both companies have lost their minds, I will probably be sane someday with a flip phone and leave all the powers that be behind soon.

I completely understand what your saying, I just think phone owners can spend free time if they chose to just use the phone and be cool, not need to get a huge secrets and tips book like for windows 7 and now 1 of those books for each new phones because of all the absurd changes that went along with scraping the world best os xp and note 3 in my option. Companies lost it to long ago, can't do a make over on a UI without all kinda of restrictions oh I meant goodness. So long gone are the super chill days, it's time to become a mini tech support technician when you get home from work

One of the few features of Samsung that I like is that of you keep your Samsung account and Google account sperated (not sure if this is actually necessary) and your phone is compromised you may have a 2nd chance at redemption... Samsung seems to give more hardware for the $ tho.....
But that makes you that much more of their product in my opinion....
I do miss my note pen sometimes tho

I never set a lock on the phone and make sure I have the Google account password impossibly long, complex and etched in stone.
Find my Device is always disabled.
No social media apps on the phone, wifi always disabled.
Lol, being a Google product sucks. Zero trust in the ruling elites; they've weaponized our devices along with most everything else.
The spen is very useful when you need it. In the N10+ it just nests, protected, until it's needed. Some things can't be done easily or at all without it. Smart select rocks.
