Stupid Question: There is no chance to replace OS with andoid auto? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that this is a stupid question but i really want to make my wish true
Can I run Android auto instead of any OS? I want to make my GT-P3110 to be my head unit in my car and it fell a bit of lag with every custom ROM.
Thanks in advance,

Every device has an OS, the only thing differentiating them is their UI. so the answer is No but your wish isn't stupid at all, and this might come true.
you will need an OS even for android auto to run.
but, with the custom rom installed, you can defrost/ delete unwanted apps. run the ROM, with minimum apps possible/needed that won't hang/lag the device. slim/Aosp ROM should be ideal for it.

I'm not sure if i can but i have some knowledge about programming and you just gave me an excellent idea to try to change the UI on CROM but that is imposible too, right? ??

with android and open source projects, impossible just doesn't fit here. Android is highly customizable. so, a developer, programmer/themer, can help in this.
changes/additional commands can be inserted at the boot. possibilities are unlimited, depends how far you let your imaginations wander.

Heh. I want to try to do something on my own when I'll have enough free time i'll try to get down the UI and to play with boot properties. I don't wana te brick my tab so I'll do on emulator on PC Ty for encouraging )
If I'll get some things that work I'll PM you.
Cheers

You're always welcome, but it would be better that you post here instead of PM me, others could also Help/learn.
Maybe someone more knowledgeable than a mere motivator like me. I could barely keep up with the ever fast Pace updates with Android, earlier ones used to be a bit easier for me.
And yes whatever you do, always be dead sure when it comes to making changes at boot. you should know exactly What you're doing and how to recover as well. Take your time and double check. If confused, feel free to use the platform as well.
keep it safe and don't get it bricked, although boot loops and messed up UI while experimenting is common, I have lot of that in experience, lol
Cheers

Its just user customization, you don't really need one. alot of people just prefer them.

i found so much software (and dont even have a ppc yet) to get the best
out of wm. thats really amazing. so what can a custom rom do, what a
third-party software couldn´t?
the one thing i could imagine right now: i like the possibility to change the
look of my device with things like "spb mobile shell". but i would rather like
to change the wm-gui itself. take away what i dont need, instead of adding
more stuff to the os (thats why i still use winXP with the old 2000-shell).
in order not to waste precious cpu- and ram-power to things i dont need/want.

to get the latest and the best
HTC takes so much of time releasing the official updates
so if you want the latest you have to depend on custom ROMs
and you can even get stuff which is not meant for your phone
like touch flo,manila interface etc

i thought touch flo is ment for my phone (it comes with it). and i thought
manila is just like a "codename" for touchflo!?
anyway... so if there is a bug or something like that and htc takes month
to release updates, the xda-devs come and create their own roms.. or if
someone would find out that the hd actually has everything hardware-
related whats needed for tv-out, he could make a rom that supports that?
and a rom is always specific to one model of a device?!? you cant use a
kayser*-rom for eg a diamond, can you?
where can i find a list of all availiable rom´s (especially for blackstone and
raphael).
thank you!!

Well for example by removing things from a rom you don't use, you can make your phone faster or have more memory.
Sometimes program such as manilla run better or faster when they are built into a rom.
Flashing a new rom means that if you hard reset, you will reset back to the rom you flash.
You can put new program and or drivers stripped from another phone (omnia, opal, ect) (this would be useful beacuse they may be newer and more improved)
Its all a matter of opinion on what you want to do with your phone, if you need help with something you are trying to get you need to giver us an example so that we can give you an example of pluses and draw backs. (there are alot of things it does and its hard to just list them)
well, thank u very much. i think i get it now. somehow like n-lite for desktop windows. but still it would be nice to have a list in the wiki with all roms, their compatibilites and main features...

HaHa,you neednt to worry about that, cause the system of this handset is much older than ones available for G1,the machine is a very very old man ^_^,using a very very old version of Android.
SO NO NEED TO TAKE THE RISK..
Im not that technical when it comes to this, but can the hardware even handle Android?
Forget upgrading them,DUMP THEM. I'd like to see how well the "proto-android" firmware would work on the g1.....once ported of course. And where did you find these? I'd like to try to get my hands on one.
I'm not sure if these can even handle full-blown android - they have 200mhz processors for crying out loud! That said, demos show they are blazing fast (even faster than ours around the ui!) but since these were never put into full production, I doubt you can update it easily...
Good to see you have found 2 gems there... thinking of selling them? =P
dam those are some great prototype android devices, you must keep one stock default, very rare, quite valuable i think. especially the white one.
Woha, prototype devices!

MMM~~~I will post some pics later.
What I want isnt flashing G1's ROM in onto them but ROMs from themselves and moded to fix the wlan's problem, cause their wifi cannot work properly yet.
the problem is that there's no source, so we can't really backport a wifi driver for the older kernel (does it even have wifi radio?)
For those who want with old android builds (don't know why though) go here:

download the older sdks (betas and pre-betas), they all come with emulators, you should be able to (using their tools folder) dump the system from them (or unyaff's the system included). Again there's really not much there
i doubt that you will be able to flash anything from g1 on this phone, as its screen obviously is a different res

And what steps should I take?

Not really. Stanford SUSE has a ton of these. Supposedly bought them in bulk on the cheap. I had a hold of one for a while a few months ago trying to see if it would be worth the time to get production Android (then 1.1) onto it. It was pretty much a lost cause without support from HTC.

[ROM][32B] tek's-ROM v0.0.1 pre-ALPHA, [Donut], "What's wrong with this picture?"
Hi, all,
Here is a project I have been working on for a couple days I would like to share with you. This is a pure, unmodified Android 1.6 Donut ROM.
Remember, this is a PRE-ALPHA, so don't expect stability, or anything extraordinary. Given that I am a pretty big n00b when it comes to developing (thus the broken market and sync in a 1.6 ROM ), and any help in getting these apps working is greatly appreciated.DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING HAPPENING TO YOUR PHONE, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!.
UPDATED: Okay, this thing is now usable. Ive combined AOSP code and The HTC ADP1 ROM so everything on the doesn't work list now works. The only things that dont work are the Apps2SD and Su (working on this as we speak). This ROM is also 100% stock.
Okay, so here are the lists:
What works:
Camera
Wifi
Gps
Keyboard
Phone
SMS
Essentially everything that isn't on the doesn't work list.
What doesn't work (everything on this list will be fixed in the future)
Su
Apps2SD
Also thanks to cyanogen for some of the system apps that have been pulled from his rom .
Download link:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=87E09WTH
Cheers!
Wondering why all these things dont work on a donut rom lol?
Anyways good work
mainly causeI'm actually trying to learn how to build a donut rom lol, hopefully without making yself look like a total idiot.
this is pretty much useless

Is this rom built straight off of AOSP or is it another rom and you put own touches? Because it will help alot more so i can see if i can fix some of the broken apps for you
EDIT: It helps alot more to theme after you fix everything... Just my opinion

It is built straight off AOSP, with the goal of being really fast, as fast as any other really good donut rom. But none of the other google apps work out of the box on AOSP, as I probably should have known. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out on this.
I agree, I should have themed it after, but I love the theme,so I just stuck it in there.
Tekgek
Why should I want to flash this? Or rather, why should I want to flash this once it's more developed? What is this going to have that Cyanogen or Super D or CSDI doesn't?
My point is, it'd be a good idea to maybe put something out there that you're planning on implementing into this that no one else is doing, or that you can do better. We have several stable, incredibly fast Donut roms out there right now, so what should set this apart from the rest of the crowd?
Just my two cents. I'd love to see this turn into something spectacular.

So would I. To one poster on this thread, I am just a person with computer skills who just got interested in Android two days ago. However, I do have plans for this rom, something that may or may not be possible. Any developer who is interested in the concept please pm me, and tell me if I am dreaming things up that are impossible or not.
EDIT: Okay, I guess its not that top secret, post ideas here too, if you like. My idea is to create a donut rom with the speed and stability of Android 1.6 on the G1, but with the ability to run 2.1 3d apps natively. Essentially, take what cyanogen has done with his ROMs to a whole new level. Impossible? Probably. Opinions, people who actually have experience with Android?
"whats wrong with this picture?"
The following
What doesn't work (everything on this list will be fixed in the future)
Android Market
Google Sync
Initial Setup
Google Apps in general
Apps2SD

From the department of stabbing in the dark, it sounds like your Google apps aren't signed with the right keys. I believe they need to be signed with the same keys as the rest of the /system/app apps you build off the source. Swim through Cyanogen's Twitter posts as I believe he's answered this there before (or just try resigning them and see if it works.)
To the Author:
Good job on your first build. Keep up the hard work. It sounds to me like you might not have added the GApps after you compiled it from kernel, but I could be wrong as I haven't flashed it. But don't lose hope, you'll get it.
To The Other Users:
I'm a bit disappointed in some of the replies I've been reading. It seems like a lot of you only really care about how this rom effects you, rather than how it effects the author in general. You don't build giant empire over night, but it does show that he put a lot of effort into the build. If you don't like it, don't use it, but don't make remarks that bring the developer down.

true that
actually I think (in my opinion) wm is better than android
I almost tried all android builds (nand & sd),android is really smooth, eye candy, easy to use os ,but it has some disadvantages that made me downgrade to wm:
1.battery life sucks, android and especially froyo can dry the battery juice in less than 12 hours and somtimes less, and battery life is one of the most important thing
in any phone, android power management still needs so many improvements
2.I don't know if I'm the only one who noticed that, but android doesn't really
have a good task manager,e.g:if I open the internet browser it won't exit until I do a soft reset, and there's several apps that don't exit,so by this way we use more ram which leads us to more battery draining
but I really like android and it's an amazing OS and I think every hd2 owner should try android,it's really cool and may keep it
we have different tastes

After running it for a few days, That was after I had to change my good working busybox to an older one that caused issues. I didnt see any change other then it closing apps that it had no point in closing. Android has one of the best memory management systems and its best not to mess with it a bit much. I have had a few people run it on my set up and they ran into the same issues. While I agree that is may work on some roms, it is not for every rom.

Might want to make sure that it doesnt break any of mike's custom scripts just in case. Speed is great as long as it doesnt sacrifice other things to do it.

Atm it hasn't done anything like that i actually think my camera might also be taking pictures faster but that could. Be because I'm over excited about how certain lagg is over
I use my phone mainly for gaming, camera and smses and for these this this script has not been a problem infact a solution

I can see where it would help with gaming. I dont game on my device. Mostly used in a perfessional manor for work and fun. Just dont understand why a script would kill the phone and sms app on a mobile device. But if it works for you then great. Glad you got your device working the way you want.
