Hello XDA developers!
I'm posting this because perhaps it can help someone else.
In August 2014 I bought a beautiful shiny Sony Xperia Z, free from factory which means I paid full price and it was great!
(but everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked, it was a joke ).
But, after a little over a day and a half, the screen broke alone in the front pocket of my pants (I confess something tight but had put my cracked Huawei with no problems), it really is not a problem: I had a Huawei with screen without pieces working perfectly fine! The problem is that about 100% of the touch stopped working, making the phone an expensive paperweight.
I could not even take a picture! Everything for what I was use it was for timing a pendulum in my physics class. The most expensive clock that anyone could buy!
Of course, the warranty was conspicuously absent!
Since then I have had to exist with this phone and Genymotion because in college have a smart phone is a necessity (at least where I study).
But now I have the opportunity to purchase a high-end phone and the first thing that came to my mind as a camera flash was Sony (I quote in Spanish: "El ser humano es el único animal, tan animal, que tropieza dos veces con la misma piedra.") Because I'm a Linux / Android developer and Sony launches AOSP kernels and release the source code even before launching the device itself (as with the Z2) leaves to me a good taste in the mouth, especially after being a proud owner of an Xperia Tipo (best smartphone in my life!). The "slow development" is no problem for me, because I am developer for 5 years (although recently I deleted my Gmail account and opened another for personal reasons, thats explains why I'm junior again).
Leaving that aside, is the Xperia Z3 a good choice?
I'm thinking in spend a lot of money (around 2 minimum wage in my country) in a good device but it does not convince me at all, maybe due my trauma with Xperia Z.
As a proud owner of an Xperia Tipo, Sony is amazing, as a defrauded and (fooled?, cheated?) holder of an Xperia Z, Sony sucks.
I post this because maybe someone will feel helped and like me maybe some one indecisive can feel safer to opt in or to run quickly away from Sony.
If the risk is greater than the gain, as the Xperia Z, what are our options? Personally, I look for a device that does not baulk with things like Custom Kernels (as KNOX or locked Bootloaders). Samsung: I'm supposed to own my phone!, right?
Thanks for reading, I hope this is helpful and if it is not, at least I hope it will help someone (even me).
I think of a OnePlus One, I do not care to be brought from China XD. (I've tried to win an invite bu no one love the "inncoent" humor)
Edit: If you think on this, the M8 is a good alternative! In comparison, the "desventage" of the M8 is the waterproof. I can't find any other.
Edit: This was my last phone (this phone is my current phone):
Cracked but fully working Huawey Y320 Arround $60
1. My dog ran and pulled the USB making the phone kiss the ground.
2. Then, I accidentally droped on the College.
3. I was angry cuz it reboot and smashed against the table.
4. Was woking perfectly good till the LCD cracked because I sat on phone.
Z3 is simply amazing but I'd suggest you wait for another 3-4 weeks. The first batch of Z3s are full of manufacturing defects. I had mine for 2 weeks and the black bezel around the screen is damaged. I went to the service center and they asked me to wait another month so that a new batch of phones will be available. Also the camera quality is average. Sony screwed up again in the Superior Auto mode. Manual shots come OK unless there is no bright light around. Speakers are also a bit dull, although I don't use them much. A friend of mine has OnePlus One and it's seriously a flagship killer. But compared to the Z3, OnePlus one looks dull in your hands. Z3 kinda nailed it in design department. So wait, and even if you buy it, just check it in the store itself for any defects. Also don't forget those service tests. Hope it helps.

Knowing that you are a developer, I would definitely say that you should go for xperia Z3 - for personal (rather Z3 community's) interests. Go for z3 dual D6633, and you know why

Yeah! maybe buy it right now is not smart enough and, no, sadly there is no such thing like Sony Centre here. Are one, but they can't do anything (they won't replace the phone never!), I mean, I bring them my Xperia Z and they just acused me of abuse. I really can't realize how the best support brand (in my opinion) can made defective devices!
You don't know how many I've suffer because the Z, I give you a breef detail: As I buy the phone in the half of month, I've eating only eggs by 15+ days because I had no enoguh money to buy descent food! So, my trauma is justificated and I'm scared. Ahhh Sony, There are nothing bad for you, but for us the things are turning black. And the sacrifice does not had any value: I never opend the cammera app, I never setted a password, I never changed the wallpaper, I never enjoyed anything the next day I needed Blackboard in the phone but, of curse, I had no phone.
Thank you for your answer.

You didn't give much away in terms of what you want to do with it. It's a great phone, but if you want a cheaper, larger phone perhaps you could consider the Nexus 6. Also, there's the Z2, S5 and other phones which have been out for a while and are cheaper.
That's not to say I regret getting the Z3; it's the best phone I've ever had, and 4g is amusingly fast, but it's expensive (I got a discount through my employer otherwise I'd probably not have bothered).

Yeah! I'ts not about money, cuz the money it's a vanal stuff. I'm afraid about if my inversion, my money will have any value. As I owned a Xperia Z by 1.5+ days, my inversion had no value. If my Z3 crack again, you know, god bye money!
So, the S5 looks fine, the screen cracks but still working!
Thank you for your answer.
As much as I like the Z3, and getting mine replaced due to severe light bleed on right side of frame and slight indent of frame towards LCD near power button. Others have a pink spot issue in camera (Mine has it but very hard to notice), Phonearena even has an article on it. Now reports of fractured back glass are coming in like the Z1.
Better wait for a new batch like someone mentioned.
If you need one right now immediately, the M8 is better as in US HTC offers free one time screen replacement in first 6 months.

So is it guaranteed that they will make new batches in 3-4 weeks? Wouldn't they still sell the old batch as they phase in the new? I want one but how long would it take for a new batch? I just want to know how long to wait. Any help is appreciated.
To be honest its hard to say.
I would say avoid it. There's no ROM's for it, and probably won't be until well after the Z4 is released if at all, and they won't be of the level of M8 ROMS. The screen, camera, speakers and design aren't as good as other alternatives, and if you managed to break a Z in your pocket which is a miracle, then this will probably do the same.
I'd get an S5 or an M8, the M8 is probably better for custome ROMS, is better made, has a better screem, speakers and in my book a better camera too, but is not waterproof.

Maybe you are right. It's time to look in other way. The M8 sounds like a great idea. It's sad the stuff about the glass. If the glass were better and the screen worked this phone could be perfect. However, I'm gonna see how the things are changing in the time.
Dont forget the free HTC Advantage Program (USA only), Free cracked glass replacement, in first 6 months and +100GB Google Drive storage for 2 years.

Seeing in YouTube looks like M8 camera sucks! How true is this?
I hate it. I'm thinking of getting the z3 because I hate the camera so much. Other than the camera, it's an amazing phone.

Don't worry that's what put me off too. I made my dad get it because he is more accident prone and it is one of the best if not the best in drop tests.
If you look through some of the videos in this thread LG-V10 Lounge, one wonders if this was to be the N6P
I think not ....... nexus devices have never been ultra flashy ........ if anything the V10 should have been the G4
Didn't we learn that no one cares about auxiliary displays the countless times this has been tried in the past? They're irrelevant with the exception of flip phones.

Nah I don't think so. Google had 2 oem partners for this year for a while I don't think they brought Huawei in at the last minute to throw something together. In my opinion the 6P looks to have more development time put into it than the Nexus 6. And plus we had been hearing rumors they wanted to work with a Chinese OEM for a long time now

Correct however when the LG G3 first came out, there were rumors that LG would be making the next Nexus "super-phone."

lol, yes rumors This is the smartphone Google’s next Nexus phone might be based on
Seems these rumors panned out
For me the V10 has a lot of random things that I do not care about like the 2nd display, extra selfie camera.
They stuck with the same processor, camera and battery size. The battery size should have improved. The G4 had an amazing camera however the battery was not so good and the OS seemed sluggish.
Can the V10 camera app be ported over? The manual video controls are AMAZING.
I hadn't heard about the V10 until today, and I must say I'm debating my 6P purchase already lol. I mean, 2nd screen aside, I love the build and the video controls are incredible.
Interesting concept, but I feel like the V10 would have been too expensive to be a Nexus phone. However, the features this phone has, such as removable battery, SD card slot, excellent camera are all things I feel Nexus phones should have.

And instead Huawei should have got the smaller variant ?
working with Huawei ( a major chinese maker ) is important for google.
Huawei is known for making large screen 'phones' since a few years now.

That's just it though. Nexus 6 was $650 straight up with far less hardware then the V10. V10 absolutely could have been the Nexus 6P. Just take away the secondary screen and V10 is an amazing pure Android device that seems to be perfectly designed for Android 6.0.
Honestly I think I'm JUMPing from my Nexus 6 to the V10 next month. I'm tired of screen burn-in on AMOLED screens. My N6 has burn in in the soft key area and it's not even a year old yet. I'm not happy with Google not selling the new Nexus devices through carriers (after doing it for 6 years) because they instantly alienated so many Nexus fans. I'm tired of them not using hardware encryption, don't know if V10 will either, but if you talk up a feature and then half-ass it why bother with it?
Honestly, I find the styling and features of this phone more appealing than the Nexus 6P, but unfortunately, this phone will never get the same hype the Nexus will.

Also cheaper to produce.
this should have been the note 5. other than the chipset it's right on par with what the note 5 does. if it only had a stylus...
I'm upgrading my note 3 to this after buying nothing but samsung stuff (lack of carrier updates had no decision in my purchases. and I don't hate touchwiz. I liked samsung stuff up until they went igalaxy on us).
true that. I was so looking forward to the note 5. Then they took out the sd card and removable battery....and after 3 models in a row of buying notes, i'm looking elseware. I do wish it had a stylus, but honestly I almost never use it.
Should have been the G4 really

Hi.
Just wondering if it is worth getting a Z5 now or since I can wait, just wait for the Z6? Are there even any rumors about it yet?
so far I haven´t heard anything about Z6 yet. if you can wait, then wait for Z6, otherwise, go for Z5, i got mine last friday, and already, i really like this device, eventhough in the past i was not fan of sony´s design ( I like more SE design)
I have a Z3 tablet and really love the design and feel of it. It's super thin with great quality and feels solid. I'm hoping the phone will feel the same.
I bought Z5 because my old device was dead. I would wait for Z6 if I had time. IMO, Snapdragon 820 will do much better than S810 especially for heat problem.
Please wait, because WMC on 21st will bring many goodies.
It's better to wait than to regret later.
Rest all upto you. ?

You should save your money for better device with great support, and huge xda devs
buying a Sony phone is just a waste of money, i'll never again buy a Xperia phone.

Why do you say so? I have recently bought second hand xperia z3 and I love it. I am glad that I finally got rid of my crappy samsung. Also, compared to nexus'es, it is a much better device. Would be nice to hear your opinion though.
To be honest, in a perfect world, I would prefer a Sony Nexus phone. I love Sony's phone designs and would prefer stock Android, but as I can disable most of what is included on the phone I'm just fine with that.

It sounds like he's speaking with concern to community developer support, of which Sony devices have relatively little because they're so unpopular compared to other brands like Nexus, Samsung, LG, OPO, etc.
It really depends on what phone you have now. If you've got something that doesn't make you shout curses, then I also suggest waiting for the Z6 or for other brands in general. There're a lot of devices to be announced in the coming months. I'm just waiting for a decent device with a large battery, SD slot, and unlockable bootloader to drop so I can ditch the Z5. I really hope that device is the Z6, but if it's something else, then so be it. The Z5 is not a terrible phone, but I don't think it's worth its retail price—especially in comparison to the Z2 and Z3, which perform just as well or better, and can be bought for much less.
Is always better to wait, but in this case is a +plus because the z5 is a fail
Or if you wait long enough you could get the Z8
The Z5 is a very disappointing phone that comes with an awfully bad firmware. In all honesty, stay away from that phone.
And the support is non-existent too. Sony is amateurish at best in that department. Get something more popular and better, you won't regret.
As a matter of fact I sold my Z5 after 4 months. It sucked

I'm very happy with the stock rom on here compared to the other devices I've owned, Samsung, lg and htc.
Obviously rooting and debloating is still necessary as with all android devices.

My Z5 is much better than my old Z1.
I have none of the problems the people on this forum claims to have.
Lots of people complains about the battery, but my battery is just fine.
I have a feeling most of the people here have unrealistic expectations on their phone and are pissed at Sony because there's no solution to root without unlocking the bootloader, but the current firmware is just fine.
tl:dr IF you really want a new phone now, go for the Z5 because you won't be disappointed (unless you also have unrealistic expectations).
Otherwise, wait for the WMC 2016 and see if Sony announces Z6

Oi, you said you wouldn't still be on here complaining:

Hi there just curious as to which phone is better out of the three in the title I'm very curious as I have the xz but have an exchange available with cash back for the other two phones....
I do like my xz but the screen mirroring seems a bit weak but I'm wondering which phones best all round I use my phone ALOT!!!
Main things I like is smoothness and quickness really as I play the odd game watch YouTube and do a lot of browsing and messaging.
Thanks in advance will
Why do people even consider buying chinese phones instead of the XZ...
Hi there any reason in particular (not being rude) just curious as today I can switch
I basically came from a iPhone 7 and want a nice smooth android experience that will also last a year or two....
This phone seems great but my screen mirroring is really choppy
then just buy xz, it is fast, multitasking on 6.0.1 is littlebit too kin on shutting down larger app if you don't use them, and fast charging isn't as fast as it could be but it is enough and battery should last longer. xz is pleasing to the eye and feels good to the touch. it is fast and smooth, sometimes there can be some stutter when lunching a rr3 or sim city after waking up. fingerprint scanner it in almpost perfect place for me it is intiutive and if programmed right it doesnt matter if you are right or lefthanded, in normal use 9/10 tries unlocks phone. curved edge screen is little problematic glass protectors usuallu are little narrower or glue is just around edges. still i love it and cant wait to upgrade to 7.0
Yeah as I say I have the xz at the moment it's what I'm using now my biggest gripe is screen mirroring to my smart TV is stuttery my dad's one plus one is fine and my friends galaxy s6 was also fine so not sure why this isn't....
Wasn't sure if the p9 or honor would be a better experience all round.
My biggest problem is reviews speed tests and indecisiveness and this seems like a very knowledgeable site so that why I came here to ask...
Tha ks again will appreciate all feedback
If anyone knows how to fix my screen mirroring or if there's a better app than the phones standard option that would be great
If your only issue with the XZ is the choppy screen mirroring, have you tried other apps that can do the same thing maybe? What app are you using to do it? Otherwise, I do generally hear positive opinions on Huawei phones.
Hi mate I just use the native app on the phone is there any mirroring apps you recommend I have a Samsung smart TV...
Yeah that my only real issue and maybe a bit of lag here and there in general... Would you say either of the other two phones will be as good as this Sony phone or are they behind thanks again will
I have the XZ and the P9, from my point of view the P9 is actually a better all around phone. The comment about buying "Chinese" is hilarious! Where do you think these phones are made, Sweden? Everything comes from China, including the entire line of Xperias! Anyhow, back on topic - I do prefer the Sony line, no question .. but having used both and I can't honestly say that the XZ is a far superior handset to the P9, at all .. in fact, the P9 battery lasts much longer and picture quality is exactly the same if not better. SO, you decide but don't make stupid comments about where these devices are made, they ALL come from China .. even the almighty iPhone.
So would you say the P9 or the honor 8 is the better option to the xz... If so mind giving me a run down of what's better about both if you don't mind..
The only reason I held back from Huawei is I had a couple of lower end phones of theirs and they slowed down extremely bad with a month or two of usage... Which phone will have better longevity do you think thanks again wherever I go this forum will be a keeper for me

I personally use the P9, and I like it plenty. The Honor and P series phones are almost identical, barring some design differences and the P9's slight spec advantage in terms of its processor. Same screen, software, and likely the same performance from both but the Honor is slightly cheaper.
I've been using the P9 for several months and I can confirm that it hasn't "slowed down", in fact it has a nice feature which turns itself off (for me at night) and restarts in for me in the morning, which as we all know Android devices need a restart every so often.
My silver XZ is in the box, and perhaps one day I'll take it out .. but honestly I got too upset seeing that battery drop to 50% by mid-day, with my p9 same usage I'm at 80% in comparison.
Good luck with your decision
Thanks alot mate I returned the xz as the screen mirroring was really bad have the p9 now in blue looks very nice feels very nice seems real smooth but time will tell and will give screen mirroring a try shortly thanks again everyone
Hey guys, my phone contract will be coming to an end in the next few months, and wondering what I should get next, at the moment I have a nexus 6p, but I'm thinking of moving away from the line of Google phone. I really like the xz premium, everything on paper seems to indicate a great phone (even better than the new Xperia phones). I have been comparing Xperia phones and always seem to go back to xz premium, what do you guys think? Should I get this phone or one of the new ones like the xa1?

I haven't used the Note 8 or the new Pixels, but I like the XZ Premium. I wish it was fully compatible with T-Mobile, but that probably doesn't matter in Australia. I compared to my friend's Note 8, and I like the XZP better. Note 8 is nice, but it's awkwardly shaped and the silly bezel-less design makes hard to hold without touching the screen. I don't know how much Samsung improved their UI, but I was pretty sick of my S7 by the time I switched back to Sony. Plus, the price just dropped on the XZP if that matters to you. The 4K screen is really nice, but honestly not a feature that gets used much. My only gripe is that the phone is just a little too tall to fit nicely in my pocket, but that applies to most phones these days. It fits, it's just enormous.

My only gripe is that the phone is just a little too tall to fit nicely in my pocket, but that applies to most phones these days. It fits, it's just enormous.

Thanks for your input I really like the xzp as well, I had a play with one at Vodafone and it seemed good, have you noticed any stuttering with the UI, the one I was playing with had it (could of just been the outdated firmware on it).
I looked at the specs of the note 8 and the camera is pretty pathetic, Samsung must use alot of post processing to enhance the image quality, I haven't played with one yet, but since my S3 I have wanted to stay away from Samsung and the Exynos chipsets

Hmm must of just been the display phone then.. has anyone got a xa1 ultra, or knows anyone with one,? Seems like an ok phone, poor on the benchmarks though
I would get the google pixel xl 2, if you can live without a headphone jack and microSD Card slot. It's going to have a much bigger dev community, much more support for accessories, with relatively the same or better hardware/specs, and much smaller bezels. Also, I wouldn't get an XA1 Ultra. It's just not as good as the xz premium. I already get frustrated with sony's poor ui choices at times, I couldn't imagine having a phone that's intentionally half-assed from sony.
The Xperia XZ Premium is the best Phone ever.

I dunno really lol just don't want a pixel, I don't miss the Samsung ui, didn't really like it,
If you're set on not getting a pixel I'd say go with this one then. The xz premium is the only phone that competes with the pixel xl 2 right now imo.
Have you own an Xperia before? If not then this is the one to get.
I do kind of miss the pen from my Note 7. If you want a stylus, the Note 8 is the way to go.
